Rufus A. Duckworth

Rufus A. Duckworth, 94, of Springerton, died Tuesday evening, September 21, 2004 at Wayfair Nursing Home in Fairfield. He was born December 9, 1909 near Springerton, the son of Alex and Teenie (Kennett) Duckworth. He married Verna Lee Felty on June 29, 1929 in Springerton and she survives.

Mr. Duckworth lived and farmed in the Springerton community for most of his life. He was a member of the Ashland Christian Church near Springerton.

He is survived by his wife, Verna Lee; one son, Charles A. Duckworth of Fairfield; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one brother, George Duckworth of Marthasville, MO and one sister, Ann McKay of Carmi. He was preceded in death by one son, Clyde Anderson Duckworth; one daughter, Jo Helen Duckworth Barger; and one sister, Lela Garrett.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2004 at the Elledge Funeral Home in Enfield. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, September 24, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Hammock Cemetery in Springerton.

Mary Edith Gwaltney

Mary Edith Gwaltney, age 78 of Carmi, died early Monday morning September 20, 2004 at the Carmi White County Hospital. She was born September 10, 1926 at Burnt Prairie Township the daughter of Paul and Gertrude (Jordan) Gwaltney.

Miss Gwaltney retired from GTE after 27 years. She was a member of what was formerly the Carmi General Baptist Church.

She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Lois Gwaltney of Carmi; two sisters, Ethel Gwaltney and Versa Gwaltney both of Carmi; one sister-in-law, Oma Gwaltney of Mill Shoals; several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Everett and Charles Gwaltney and three nephews and one niece.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday September 22, 2004 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Burial in Centerville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Cathlene Jackson

Cathlene Jackson, 74 of Carmi, died Tuesday evening, September 21, 2004 at the White County Medical Center. She was born May 24, 1930 in Carmi, the daughter of McKinley and Martha Lolove (Garrett) Wright. She married Carvel Ray Jackson on August 30, 1946 in Carmi and he preceded her in death.

Mrs. Jackson was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Jackson of Albion and Brian Keith Jackson of Eldorado; one daughter, Barbara Jean Wood of West Salem; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerry Wright of Carmi; and two sisters, Carolyn Harrelson of Norris City and Ferris Ritcheson of Carmi. She was preceded in death by one son, James Randall Jackson; two brothers, McKinley Wright, Jr. and Ronald Lavern Wright; and one sister, Mary Ann Wright.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2004 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in North Maple Ridge Cemetery.

Janice LaVerne Kelly

Janice LaVerne Kelly, age 65 of Nashville, IL and formerly of Enfield died Saturday July 24, 2004 in Nashville. She was born April 13, 1939 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Walter and Macel (Wilson) Hoover. She married James A. Kelly, Sr. on July 30, 1955 and he preceded her in death on February 19, 1993.

Mrs. Kelly was a homemaker.

She is survived by her mother, Macel Hoover of Enfield; two daughters and a son-in-law, Alicia Kelly of Nashville, IL and Debi & Manny Vieira of Garden Valley, CA; four grandchildren, Anthony Vieira, Sandy Vieira, Shelbi Jo Kelly and Christy Chavarin; four great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Bud & Joyce Hoover of Belleville; and one sister and brother-in-law, Pat & Jim Newman of Enfield. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Hoover; her husband, James; one son, James A. Kelly, Jr. and two sisters, Wilma Jean Levart and Terry Thomas.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at the Elledge Funeral Home in Enfield. Visitation will be from 1p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Enfield Cemetery.

Bertha May O誰eal

Bertha May O誰eal, age 94 of Carmi died Saturday morning July 24, 2004 at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. She was born October 5, 1909 in Thackery, the daughter of Harve and Lisetta (Howell) Tyler. She married Spencer O誰eal on January of 1927 and they resided on a farm in Herald痴 Prairie Township until 1985 when they moved to Carmi. Spencer died November 2, 1993.

Bertha was an active member of the Chapman Grove General Baptist Church. She loved to quilt, garden and mow as long as her health enabled her.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Sue O誰eal of Carmi; a granddaughter Judith Ann and her husband Harry Brazier of Shawneetown; a grandson Ronald W. and his wife Glenda O誰eal of Maineville, Ohio; two great-grandchildren Amy Nicole and her husband Richard Weakley of Memphis, TN and Glennon Bryke O誰eal of Carlsbad, CA; two great-great-grandchildren, Kelsie and Kirby Weakley. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph M. Tyler.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday July 27, 2004 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Burial in Plainview Cemetery near Norris City. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wabash Christian Retirement Center.

Merl Edward Owens

Merl Edward Owens, age 85 of Carmi died Sunday morning August 29, 2004 at the White County Medical Center in Carmi. He was born December 13, 1918 in Arkansas the son of Aaron and Rosetta (Rogers) Owens. He married Ellen Mosberger on December 19, 1979 and she survives.

Mr. Owens repaired oil field pumps. He was a WWII veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Wadesville, IN. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of New Harmony.

He is survived by his wife Ellen; one stepson and daughter-in-law, Glen and Betty McTaggart of Crestview, FL; two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Valinda and Mike Rowe of Carmi and Dixie and Paul Hale of Fenton, MO; six grandchildren; a nephew and his wife, Jack and Linda Biggs of Poseyville, IN. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Mr. Owens remains were cremated and a memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday September 7, 2004 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Grayville. The Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of arrangements.

Leota C. Renshaw

Leota C. Renshaw, age 97 of Carmi, died Tuesday evening August 24, 2004 at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. She was born July 3, 1907 in Crossville, the daughter of Clyde and Martha (Sidel) Caplinger. She married H.W. 典ed Renshaw on March 31, 1929 in White County and he preceded her in death on July 21, 1988.

Mrs. Renshaw had worked for many years at Brantley Shoe Store and at L.A. Haas. She was a member of Ashland Christian Church.

She is survived by one son, Ray Renshaw of Carmi and two daughters and a son-in-law, Marilyn Clark of Indian Shores, FL and Ann & Joe Brumett of Orange, VA; eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday August 28, 2004 at Kuykendall Cemetery near Carmi. No visitation will be held. The Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in their mother痴 name to the American Cancer Society, VNA or the Ashland Christian Church.

Dora Elizabeth Sparrow

Dora Elizabeth Sparrow, 79 of Carmi, died Thursday morning July 29, 2004 at the White County Medical Center in Carmi. She was born April 25, 1925 in Henshaw, KY, the daughter of George and Verbel (Nelson) Burris. She married H. Bernard Sparrow on July 5, 1942 and he preceded her in death in 1989.

Mrs. Sparrow was a homemaker. She was a member of the Carmi American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by three sons, Joe Sparrow of Norris City, Bernard Sparrow of Carmi, and Jack Sparrow of Denver, Colorado; one daughter, Jane Wallis of Colfax, Iowa; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Cullum of Marion, IL, Hazel Vickery of Shawneetown, IL and Imogene Milligan of Metropolis, IL. She was preceded in death by two brothers, George 撤ete Burris, Jr. and William 釘ill G. Burris and two sisters, Kathleen Baker and Pauline Midkiff.

Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2004 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, July 30, 2004 a the funeral home. Burial will be in Union Ridge Cemetery near Norris City.

Rose Usery

Rose Usery, age 100 of Carmi died Monday afternoon August 16, 2004 at the White County Medical Center in Carmi. She was born March 27, 1904 in Carmi the daughter of David and Lydia (Cherry) Cozart. She married William O. Usery in 1927 and he preceded her in death in 1966.

Mrs. Usery was a cook for many years at the Carmi V.F.W. She was active in the DAV痴, and the Carmi American Legion and the V.F.W. poppy sales. She was a member of the Carmi Church of God.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Wilhelmina and Buck Adams of Carmi, Malen and Doyle Daniel of Waddy, KY; two sons and daughter-in-law, Bill and Peggy Usery of Carmi and Ferrell Handley of Quincy; a special niece, who Rose considered her 殿dopted daughter Erma Winkleman of Carmi; 13 grandchildren,, 12 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by one son, Vernard Handley; two brothers, Ben Cozart and John Cozart; four sisters, Myrtle Parker, Mary Bradshaw, Martha Usery and Orphie Mills.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Kuykendall Cemetery in Carmi. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi.

John M. Frymire

John M. Frymire, age 64 of Carmi died Monday afternoon November 8, 2004 at the Skilled Care Unit of the White County Medical Center in Carmi. He was born September 11, 1940 in Emma, IL, the son of Loren and Beulah (Sanders) Frymire.

He is survived by one son, Norman Frymire of McLeansboro, IL; three grandchildren; four brothers, Tom, John, Lee, and Alan Frymire; four sisters, Connie, Marilyn Maughan of Carmi, Vonda of Springerton and Daisy. He was preceded in death b y two brothers, Huck and Kevin Frymire.

Arrangements are pending at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi.

Thomas Harold Green

Thomas Harold Green, age 72 of Mill Shoals, died Thursday evening October 21, 2004 at his home. He was born May 14, 1932 in Sheridan, WY, the son of Harold and Clara (Barton) Green. He married Pauline A. Burr on May 22, 1965 in Gillette, WY and she survives.

Mr. Green was a production superintendent in the oil fields before his retirement. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He served as Secretary of the Mill Shoals Ruritan Club and was a member of the Mill Shoals Village Board. He belonged to the Elks of Ste. Genevieve, MO, and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He belonged to the United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline; three sons, Albert and John, both of Ste. Genevieve, MO and Mike of Scotts Bluff, NE; two daughters, Rita Sutton of Buffalo, WY and Karen Hargis of Platteville, CO; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three brothers, Vern Green of Rapid City, SD and Alfred Bart Green and Norman Green, both of Buffalo, WY; two sisters, Hazel Smith of Dumas, TX and Marilyn Burkert, Sheridan, WY. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, William Eugene Green; one grandson, Donald Thomas Green; and one brother, Joe Green.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at the Mill Shoals Ruritan Club. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Shrewsbury Cemetery in Mill Shoals. military rites will be conducted by the combined veteran units of Carmi V.F.W. Post #3851 and Carmi American Legion Post #224. Elledge Funeral Home in Mill Shoals is in charge of arrangements.

Thelma R. Questell

Thelma R. Questell, age 92, of Carmi, passed away at 3:25 P.M. on Thursday, November 25, 2004, at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi. She was born on March 3, 1912, in Maunie, IL, the daughter of Charles F. and Florence (Finnel) Roser. She was married to Henry Dagley Questell December 23, 1937 and he preceded her in death on November 15, 1990.

Mrs. Questell was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Maunie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Alma Abshier, four brothers, Benjamin Roser, Raymond Roser, Norbert Roser, and Willard Roser, and a niece, Georgia Klein.

She is survived by five nephews and their wives, Wayne and Lyna Abshier of Grand Island, NE; Joe and Donna Abshier of Findlay, OH; Richard and Donna Roser of Carmi, IL; Charles and Delia Roser of Ft. Worth, TX; and James and Kathy Roser of Asheville, NC; and four nieces, Gayle and Eugene Bain of Evansville IN; Nancy Roser-Baxter and Ken of Austin, TX; Lillian Rae Thompson of Topeka, KS; and Mary Ellen LaFond of Topeka, KS .

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 29, 2004, at 1:00 P.M. at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with the Rev. C. William Fechtig and Wayne Daniel officiating. Burial will be at Union Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. on Monday until the service time at 1:00 P.M.

Raymond D. Renshaw

Raymond D. Renshaw, 81 of Carmi, died Monday morning October 25, 2004 at St. Mary痴 Hospital in Evansville, IN. He was born January 9, 1923 in Carmi, the son of James and Mae (Lamp) Renshaw. He married Martha Garrett on January 24, 1942 in Cape Girardeau, Mo and she survives.

Mr. Renshaw operated the Carmi Slaughtering Plant for over 20 years. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of the Carmi VFW.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Rodger and Gail Renshaw and Mark and Rhonda Renshaw, all of Carmi; one daughter and son-in-law, Jo and Larry Brock of Carmi; three grandchildren, James Ward, Karen Sexton and Sydney Renshaw; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granchild; one brother, Glenn Renshaw of Carmi. He was preceded in death by one grandchild, Jeffrey Ward; five brothers, Nick, Kenny, Chester, Ralph Renshaw and Bill Chilton; and six sisters, Beulah Cantrell, Mary & Esther Murphy, Dorothy & Jessie Renshaw and Effie Hughes.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bruce Chapel Cemetery. military rites will be conducted by the combined veteran units of the Carmi V.F.W. Post #3851 and Carmi American Legion Post #224.

Eugenia L. Dare

Eugenia L. Dare, age 75 of Enfield died at 4:24 a.m. Monday November 1, 2004 at the White County Medical Center in Carmi. She was born March 21, 1929 in Wilmington, NC, the daughter of Charles H. and Virginia A. (Manning) McMillen. She married John E. Dare, Sr. on January 11, 1950 in Vincennes, IN and he preceded her in death in August 1987.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Joseph C. and LaVera Dare of Enfield; two daughters and a son-in-law, Robin M. Dare of Enfield and Vicki Lee and George Brown of East Galesburg, IL; four grandchildren, Julie M. Brown, Pvt. 2nd Class Aaron M. Brown, Joseph C. Dare III and Eugenia M. Dare; two great-grandchildren, Michaella M. Brown and Colton K. Brown; four brothers and a sister-in-law, Charles H. McMillen of Galatia, IL, Richard D. McMillen of Birmingham, AL, Thomas P. McMillen of East Galesburg, IL and John R. and Judy McMillen of Peru, IL; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Virginia M. Powell of Wheatland, IN and Donna R. and Virgil Shipley of Chesterfield, IN; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, John Ed, Jr.; one daughter, Patricia K.; one sister, Carolyn Goin; and one brother, William J. McMillen.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 4, 2004 at the Elledge Funeral Home in Enfield. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 4, 2004 at the Wheatland Cemetery in Wheatland, IN. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes. Association or the American Heart Association.

Mardell Fair

Mardell Fair age 89 of Salem and formerly of Carmi, died Tuesday morning November 23, 2004 at the home of her grand-daughter in Salem, IL.

She was born January 3, 1915 in Bond, Co. the daughter of Luther L. and Mary E. (Lewis) Beemer. She married Remel 鉄horty Fair on April 18, 1937 in Bowling Green, MO and he preceded her in death on July 6, 2002.

Mrs. Fair had worked along side her husband Shorty in the funeral business, having owned and operated Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home until their retirement in 1976. She had been a member of the Carmi V.F.W. Auxiliary, the Carmi American Legion Auxiliary, Ladies of the Elks, and the Country Club Ladies. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carmi.

She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Timm and Susan Fair of Muncie, IN, Kent Fair and special friend, Lynette of Mt. Vernon, IL; one daughter and son-in-law, Inez and Harold Woodruff of Salem; ten grandchildren, Rem Woodruff, Rue Telford, Rae DeLao, Ria Woodruff, Ryan Woodruff, Jeremy Fair, Adam Fair, Michael Fair, Andrew Fair and Sarah Staggs, five great-grandchildren, Matthew Cathcart, Lindsey Cathcart, Zachary Telford, Hannah DeLao and Casson Staggs; one brother, Edward Beemer of Peoria; one sister and brother-in-law, Florence Bentzen of San Bruno, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers, Verlon, Clyde, Albert, Myron and Vernon; two sisters, Lillian Thompson and Allene Brackeen.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday November 27, 2004 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Burial in White County Memorial Garden near Carmi. Visitation will be from noon until service time on Saturday. Memorials are suggested to, St. Mary痴 Good Samaritan Hospice in Mt. Vernon, IL, the First United Methodist Church Children痴 Program in Carmi, and the Susan B. Kohman Foundation.

Delmar Robert Jamerson

Delmar Robert Jamerson, age 78 of Odessa, WA and formerly of Carmi died August 15, 2004 in Spokane, WA. He was born July 15, 1926 in New Memphis, IL the son of William and Clara Brinkley Jamerson.

Mr. Jamerson attended and finished school in Carmi. In 1944 he joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he served during WWII and was active in Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Guadalcanal and the Pacific Theater. He was proud to be a marine and serve his country and was honorably discharged in 1946. He later left Carmi and headed west to California where he retired from Rohr Industries in 1988. The following year he moved to Odessa, WA. He spent his entire life helping and caring for family and friends. He loved to travel and especially loved the festivities of the Deutsches Fest in Odessa, WA. Delmar will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends throughout the entire U.S.

He is survived by one brother, Kenneth R. Jamerson of Spokane, WA; several nieces and nephews including Barbara Howard and Wenona Jamerson both of Carmi and Pamela Watson of Eldorado; good friends, the Charles 釘ud Burris family. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Floyd, Dean, Earl, Bob and Harold Jamerson.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday October 23, 2004 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Burial in Maple Ridge Cemetery. The family will meet friends one hour prior to services on Saturday. military graveside rites will be conducted by the combined veteran units of the Carmi V.F.W. Post #3851 and Carmi American Legion Post #224.

Vivian Rose Mossberger

Vivian Rose Mossberger, age 78 of Enfield, died early Friday morning November 19, 2004 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. She was born September 7, 1926 at Herald, IL the daughter of Asa and Elizabeth 鏑izzie (Gidcomb) Cozart. She married Charles 釘eaver Mossberger on November 26, 1950 at the Enfield United Methodist Church and he survives.

Mrs. Mossberger had been a hair stylist for 42 years. She was a member of the Enfield Christian Church.

She is survived by her husband Charles 釘eaver, and one daughter and son-in-law, Roxanna and Rick Lamp of Mt. Vernon, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday November 22, 2004 at the Enfield Christian Church. Burial will be in Enfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday at the Elledge Funeral Home in Enfield.

Cecil A. Mann

Cecil A. Mann, age 97 of Carmi died Monday December 13, 2004 in Henderson, KY. He was born April 19, 1907 in Dale, IL. He married Verla Turner and she preceded him in death in 1996.

Mr. Mann was a farmer. He was a member of Big Prairie United Methodist Church.

He is survived by one granddaughter and her husband, Kathleen & Tommy Fulkerson of Henderson, KY; two great-grandchildren, Heather Fulkerson and Tommy Fulkerson III; and one daughter-in-law, Betty Brewster of Evansville, IN. He was preceded in death by one son, Jack Mann; two brothers, Claude and Carmel Mann; and two sisters, Ruth Hays and Hallie Mann.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Hickory Hill Cemetery in Broughton.

Janice Rose

Janice Rose, 54 of Carmi, died Friday morning, March 25, 2005 at her home. She was born December 16, 1950 in Maunie.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis E. Grant and Phillip L. and Angela J. Grant of Carmi and Duane S and Dixie Grant of Bloomington, IL; one daughter, Angela J. Grant of Carmi; three brothers, Wendell McDaniel of Missouri, Harold James, Ernest James both of Carmi; four sisters, Jane McDaniel Shelow, Joyce Stinson, Joan Bryant and Lora Goodwin, all of Carmi; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday March 28, 2005 at the Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home in Carmi with Rev. Mike Buckman officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time.
