Christie L., DVM Peterson
BREMEN -- Dr. Christie L. Peterson, 44, of Bremen, passed away Saturday, Aug. 20 while
visiting Manistee County, Mich. Chris resided at Lake of the Woods where she enjoyed many
activities.
She was the youngest of seven children born to Dr. Ronald L. and Virginia A. (Pierce) Peterson.
Christie Lynn was a spirited girl born June 1, 1967 in the Plymouth Parkview Hospital.
She graduated from Plymouth High School in the class of 1985. While attending Purdue
University she entered Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine and completed her studies in 1991.
She has continued her post-graduate studies as a member of the American Veterinary Medical
Association for the past 20 years.
In 2001 she founded St. Francis Family Pet Healthcare in Bremen, enjoying her many
relationships with pets and their owners throughout the area.
She loved camping, horseback riding, hiking, animals of all kinds and had a passion for music.
Led by her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, Chris enjoyed serving friends and family.
Chris was a member of Saint Dominic Catholic Church in Bremen and often attended Saint
Michael in Plymouth.
Dedicated to serving others, Chris volunteered with Heart and Hands, teaching English as a
second language. Her love for children led her to the founding of Adams Place for Kids.
Christie is survived by her parents; Dr. Ronald and Virginia Peterson of Plymouth and six
brothers and sisters. They are: Pamela (Steve) Lawrence of Danville, Randy Peterson of
Mishawaka, Janice Peterson of Burundi, Africa, Julie (Mark) Jarvis of Mishawaka, Steve (Cindy)
Peterson of Manistee, Mich. and Barry (LeeAnn) Peterson of Danville. Also surviving are nieces:
Stacy, Heather, Greta, Stephanie, Jessica, Keri, Katherine, Mariel, Jacque, Kali, Carmen and
Amy Jo. Nephews include: Philip, Jeff and Jeremiah.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 27 in the St. Michael Catholic
Church, 613 N. Center St., Plymouth, where visitation will be held after 10 a.m. until time of
services. Pastors William Kummer and Bob Lengerich will be the Celebrants.
Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in the Porter Rae cemetery on the grounds of Potato Creek State Park.
Preferred are memorial gifts in her memory to St. Michael Church, 612 N. Walnut St., Plymouth,
IN 46563 or St. Dominic Catholic Church, 803 W. Bike St., Bremen, IN 46506.
Arrangements are with the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.

Delores M. Yelton
WALKERTON -- Delores M. Yelton, 77, of Walkerton and formerly of Union Mills, passed away
peacefully at 6:37 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011 at IU Health LaPorte Hospital.
She was born July 31, 1934 in Walkerton to Joseph F. and Eva I. (Pearish) Cripe.
Feb. 13, 1954 in LaPorte, she married Paul E. Yelton, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Paula (Dennis Sr.) Metz of Walkerton and Nancy J. (Paul)
Martin of Bourbon; one son, Scott (Cheryl) Yelton of LaPorte; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren;
one sister, Patricia (Gary) Hostetler of LaPorte.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandchild; one sister and two brothers.
There will be no visitation or services. Cremation will take place. Lakeview Funeral Home and
Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Road, LaPorte is caring for the arrangements.

Helen Freeman
SOUTH BEND -- A memorial service for Helen Freeman will be held Sunday, Aug. 21 at 4 p.m.
at Pine Creek Church, corner of Pine and Stanton Roads, North Liberty. The family will receive
friends from 2 p.m. until time of service at the church.
She died Aug. 2, 2011 in the Southfield Village, South Bend.
She is survived by children, Shirley Braner and Mary Ann Haysley; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren
and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Her body was donated to Indiana University Medical School. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be
made to the Pine Creek Church or to Center for Hospice Care, 111 Sunnybrook Ct., South
Bend, 46637.
Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Phillip James Lindenman
GOSHEN -- Phillip James Lindenman died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011 at IU Health Goshen
Hospital at the age of 63.
He was born Feb. 8, 1948. He led an active life as a farmer, agriculture consultant, agriculture
educator, FFA advisor and 4-H leader. He had taught agricultural sciences at Argos High School
four years then worked for Farm Bureau and developed an agriculture consulting business. He
later returned to teaching agriculture-related classes at NorthWood High School for 15 years.
Phillip graduated from New Paris High School in 1966 and Purdue University in 1970 with a dual
degree in agriculture education and agronomy. He later acquired a master’s degree in
agriculture education. He retired from NorthWood High School in July of 2010.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Rosemand (Bailey) Lindenman; son, Trenton (Heather)
Lindenman and two granddaughters, Ella and Aubrey of Otterbien; daughter, Toriann Lindenman
of Chicago, Ill.; mother, Ilene (Benson) Dyer of Goshen; brother, Rex (Donna) Lindenman of
Westville. His father, LaMar Lindenman, preceded him in death in 1993.
Phillip was a member of the New Paris Church of the Brethren.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011 at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral
Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011 at
the New Paris Church of the Brethren with Pastor Stan Godfrey officiating. Burial will be in New
Paris cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the NorthWood FFA.

Melba L. Reese
WALKERTON -- Melba L. Reese, age 85, of 500 Walkerton Trail, Walkerton, passed away at
10:20 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Walkerton.
Melba was born Sept. 7, 1925, in Lowland, N.C., to James and Mattie (Lewis) Lupton. Melba
became the bride of Robert Reese July 26, 1946, in a ceremony that took place in Norfolk, Va.
Robert passed away July 8, 1998. Robert and Melba moved to Tyner, in October of 1951.
Robert and Melba were the co-owners of the Tyner Elevator, where Melba was the bookkeeper.
Melba served as the Marshall County Recorder for eight years, was a member of the Marshall
County Council for four years, served on the Marshall County Republican Women’s Committee,
was the Drainage Board secretary, was a member of the board of the Marshall County
Community Foundation, and also a member of the Tyner United Methodist Church.
Melba is survived by her daughter, Patty (Tim) Grace of Plymouth; her sons, Robert (Marsha)
Reese of Walkerton; and Richard (Cathy) Reese of Walkerton; eight grandchildren, Scott (Ingrid)
Reese, Jennifer (Jeff deceased) Cygert, Ryan (Melody) Reese, Adam (Kristy) Reese, Diane
(Nick) Brusius, Eric Reese, Jessica (David) Sills and Erin (Howard) Berkeypile; 10 great grandchildren;
and her brother, Myron Lupton of Norfolk, Va. Melba was preceded in death by
her husband, Robert; their son, James William Reese, who passed away in 1954; one sister;
and three brothers.

Mary Alice Cummings Gehrke
LaPORTE -- Mary Alice Cummings Gehrke, age 90, of LaPorte, passed away at 2:20 p.m.,
Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Plymouth.
Mrs. Gehrke was born July 5, 1921, in Westville, to George Claude and Mary Winifred (Carson)
Cummings. She graduated from Kingsbury High School in the class of 1939. Mrs. Gehrke
retired, after working 32 years, as a long distance operator with General Telephone Company of
Indiana. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of LaPorte and Faith Circle of the
church. She was a life member of Kappa Alumni Chapter of Sigma Phi Gamma International
Sorority, LaPorte Business Girls Association, Auxiliary to American Legion Post #83 in LaPorte,
Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post #1130 in LaPorte, Ladies Auxiliary to Fraternal Order of Eagles
Aerie #2439 in LaPorte, Women of the Moose #935 in Michigan City, Narfe Association Chapter
#0565, AARP, National Association of Letter Carriers, and was also an associate member of the
Indiana Farm Bureau. Mrs. Gehrke always enjoyed cooking and hosted many family and holiday
dinners. She married James T. Gehrke, in 1971, in Indianapolis. He passed away April 11, 1980.
Survivors include her son, Donald Wesley (Judy) Harness of Plymouth; her granddaughter,
Jennifer Harness of Plymouth; her brother, George Robert Cummings of LaPorte; and a number
of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Wesley
Harness; and her brother, Dr. Thomas Edward Cummings, D.D.S., of Chicago.

George L. Hill
PLYMOUTH -- George L. Hill, 88, 1002 Red Maple Drive, a resident of Plymouth for the past 14
years, died of natural causes at 6:10 p.m. in the Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home Tuesday, Aug. 23,
2011.
George was born in Davenport, Okla., July 23, 1923. He was the son of Herbert Clinton Hill and
Cynthia 'Alice' Manning.
In 1943, George enlisted in the Army Air Force. He was honorably discharged with the rank of
sergeant in May of 1946.
After World War II, George began working in the Chicago area where he met his wife, Eileen.
April 2, 1949, George and Ruth Eileen Braselton were married . George was a talented carpenter
and his love for woodworking shone throughout their home. People appreciated George’s gentle
spirit and his twinkling eyes.
He worked in the steel industry as a steel fabricator and welding set-up for 22 years, retiring in
1985. When living in Illinois, George was actively involved in the Harvey and Lansing Churches
of the Nazarene. George was the church’s handyman, served on the church board, and taught
Sunday school. After moving to Plymouth, George became a member of the Plymouth Wesleyan
Church.
George is survived by his wife and their two daughters and two sons. His daughters are Barbara
Ann Shidler of Mishawaka and Susan Lynn (Charles) Allen of Plymouth. His sons are Dale Allen
(Teddie Lynn) Hill, South Bend and Donald Ray (Victoria) Hill, Valparaiso.
George is survived by 10 grandchildren; James Scott Hill, Amy (Tim) VanSwol, Ben (Giacinta)
Shidler, Beth (John) Elkani, Brittney Shidler, Nicholas (Anna) Allen, Rachael (Chris) DeMarse,
Jeffrey (Alleigh) Allen, Andrew and Sarah Hill.
George is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Preston and Caden VanSwol, Joel Elkani
and Lucas Scott Willis.
A brother, Herbert Ray (Eula Mae) Hill, Elma, Wash., survives as well.
George was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Floyd Hill.
Friends are invited to visit with the family Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the
Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
A funeral service to George will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, in the Plymouth
Wesleyan Church, 11203 S. Michigan St., Plymouth. Ed Friberg, associate pastor of the church,
will officiate.
A Military graveside service will be accorded to George by the Plymouth American Legion, VFW
and Disabled American Veterans.
Burial will be in the New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorial gifts in George’s memory may be made to the Plymouth Wesleyan Church Building
fund.

Rosemary Kaufman
PLYMOUTH -- Rosemary Kaufman, 88, a River Park resident in Plymouth, passed away at 9:10
a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011 at her home in the care of her family and the Center for
Hospice Care. She resided in the Plymouth area her entire life.
Rosemary was born in LaPaz Nov. 24, 1922. She was the daughter of Harley and Pearl Sarber.
Oct. 12, 1941, in LaPaz, Rosemary and Dale Kaufman were married . They lived in the Plymouth
area their entire lives.
Rosemary was a dedicated housewife and mother and helped with the Standard Oil business.
Her husband, Dale, died Sept. 1, 1993.
Rosemary is survived by two sons: Rodger (Doreen) Kaufman, Anderson, S.C. and Jeffrey
(Bernie) Kaufman, Mesa, Ariz.
Four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren survive as well. They are Rodger and Doreen’s
children: Melissa Kaufman-Lovell and Christina Kaufman-Brown and Jeff and Bernie’s children:
Amanda Jacob and Matthew Kaufman.
A sister, Mardelle VanVactor, Plymouth, also survives, along with two nephews and a niece:
Gary and Brent Kaufman and Sharon Feitz.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; and a sister, Lucille Peters
Ward; a niece, Sidna Martindale; and a granddaughter, Monica Boudway.
Services will be held in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth
at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011. Visitation will begin at noon until the time of services.
Burial will follow in the Oakhill cemetery.
