Jeffory A. Goetz, 47
FOWLER -- Jeffory A. Goetz, 47, of Fowler, died at 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005, in his home.
He was born July 21, 1958, in Fowler.
Surviving are his father, Branson Goetz of Fowler; a brother, Joe Goetz (wife: Gale) of Boswell; five sisters, Julie Reedy (husband: Terry) of Arlington Heights, Ill., Jenny Goetz of Clermont, Janet Stout of Woodstock, Ill., Jill Albertson of Fowler and Joyce Inman (husband: Kurt) of Indianapolis.
Gerard J. Hanna, 69
DELPHI -- Gerard J. "Jerry" Hanna, 69, of Indianapolis, formerly of Delphi, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005.
Born in Indianapolis, he was raised in Delphi and was a 1954 graduate of Delphi High School. He was also a 1958 graduate of DePauw University, where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.
Mr. Hanna served as first lieutenant in the Navy and served in Vietnam. He received a Bronze Star with Combat V, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Air Medal.
He worked as an investment broker with Smith Barney for many years.
He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and Nora Sertoma.
Surviving is a sister Sharon L. O'Farrell (husband: James P.).
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center- Broad Ripple. Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Graveside services 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Delphi. Surviving are his nieces, Kathy Strasser and Tara Shanks; nephews, Kevin and Kyle O'Farrell; and 8 great-nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to Nora Sertoma or St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
Mildred E. Haughn, 86
Mildred E. "Millie" Bowyer Haughn, 86, died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005, at University Place in West Lafayette. She formerly lived at 2585 Lafayette Drive in Lafayette.
Born Feb. 12, 1919, in Lafayette, she was a life resident of this area.
She married Lawrence J. "Curly" Haughn on Aug. 21, 1939, in Lafayette. He preceded her in death Nov. 3, 1991.
Mrs. Haughn had been a tuition assistant for Lafayette Catholic schools a number of years and also worked in various positions at St. Mary Cathedral, where she was a member. She also was a member of St. Mary Altar Society, Eagles Auxiliary 347, the Catholic Daughters of America and Mother Theresa Helpers.
Surviving are a son, John L. "Jack" Haughn (wife: Donna) of The Villages, Fla.; two brothers, James Bowyer of Lafayette and Frank Bowyer of Battle Ground; and one sister, Rosemary Johnson of Lafayette.
Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, Lafayette, from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, with Rosary at 4:45 p.m. Funeral Mass, 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, St. MaryCathedral, with Fathers Ambrose Ziegler and Dan Gartland officiating. Interment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Surviving are 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by 3 sisters, 1 brother. William Hughes, 82
COVINGTON -- William Dale "B.D." Hughes, 82, of Carmel, died at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2005, at St. Vincent Carmel Hospital.
He was born July 18, 1923, in Gessie, Ind., and was a 1942 graduate of Perrysville High School.
Mr. Hughes was a foreman for 35 years at Kraft Foods in Danville prior to retiring. He was a former resident of Perrysville, Danville and Covington before moving to Carmel in 2003.
His marriage was to Vivian Marshall on March 25, 1944, in Gary, and she survives.
He was a charter member of Coal Branch Church; was a 50-year member of Unity Lodge 344, F&AM at Perrysville; and the Danville Scottish Rite.
Surviving besides his wife is a daughter, Marsha Manley of Westfield.
Services are today in Covington.
Fred C. Jarrard, 85
Fred C. Jarrard, 85, of 2500 Meadow Drive, died at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at Rosewalk Village.
Born Feb. 6, 1920, in Chalmers, he was a 1940 graduate of Klondike High School and a life resident.
He married Martha Esther Odle Davis on Feb. 3, 1979, in Lafayette, and she survives.
Mr. Jarrard was a veteran, serving with the 1340th Army Air Force Base Unit Air Transit Command during World War II as a sergeant.
He retired from Ralston Purina after 31 years of service. He was also a member of the safety patrol for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard for 20 years.
Mr. Jarrard attended First Assembly of God and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign War Post 1154.
He was an avid fan of Purdue sports and the Indiana Pacers.
Surviving with his wife are three sons, Mike Davis (wife: Susie) of Ambia, Robert Jarrard of Lafayette and Gil Jarrard of Crawfordsville; and three daughters, Beverly Davis and Valerie Pullen, both of Elkhart, and Karen Pickett of Flora.
Marcus A. Phelps, 66
COVINGTON -- Marcus A. "Hannie" Phelps, 66, died at 2:26 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005, at the Provena USMC Logan Campus in Danville, Ill., following an extended illness.
Born April 9, 1939, in Morgantown, Ky., he moved to Covington from Owensboro, Ky., in 1957.
Mr. Phelps married Marta Britton on Sept. 5, 1983, in Covington, and she survives.
He was employed at Fountain Foundry for eight years and was the owner and operator of Phelps Auto Salvage for 44 years.
Mr. Phelps enjoyed horses and stock car racing. He was a stock car driver for many years.
Surviving with his wife are four sons, Richard A. Phelps of Veedersburg, David A. "Tony" Phelps of Newport, Marcus D. Phelps (wife: Leanna) of Veedersburg and Chadley E. Hanson (wife: Jessica) of Covington; and a daughter, Misti D. Hanson of Veedersburg.
Services are Saturday in Covington.
Ann Marie Ramage, 71
Ann Marie Ramage, 71, formerly of Lafayette, died at 12:53 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at TMC Hospital in Tucson, Ariz.
Born Feb. 1, 1934, in Lafayette, she was a graduate of St. Francis Academy.
Her first marriage was to Roy Otto Mansfield, and he preceded her in death in 1978. She married William R. Ramage on Oct. 23, 1982, in Tucson, and he survives.
She had previously worked at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette and the University of Arizona in Tucson.
Mrs. Ramage was a member of St. Cyril's Catholic Church, where she was a volunteer for the church school. She had previously been a Big Sister, was a member of the Sew and Sews quilting club, and she also refurbished dolls and stuffed animals to donate to those in need.
Surviving with her husband are two sisters, Rose Long (husband: Gene) of Lowell and Mary Frances Nelson of Lafayette; and four brothers, the Rev. Joseph Nelson of Socorro, Texas, Richard A. Nelson (wife: Carla), William G. Nelson (wife: Mary Jo) and Charles F. Nelson (wife: Cheryl), all of Lafayette.
Services are today in Arizona.
Ardis M. Schuette, 91
BROOK -- Ardis M. Schuette, 91, of Brook, died at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005, at Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer.
Born Nov. 23, 1913, in Beaver City, she was a 1931 graduate of Brook High School and a life resident.
She married Herman H. Schuette on Dec. 16, 1938, in Reynolds, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1989.
Mrs. Schuette was a homemaker and also worked for Hershmen's Hardware for two years and Witch Hazel for two years.
She was a member of First Christian Church since 1923. She was also a member of King's Daughters for more than 50 years, a charter member of the George Ade Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, former secretary of the Wash-O-Quois, a member of the first board of CDC in 1960 where she served two five-year terms for White, Newton and Jasper counties, a charter member of the first Parent Teachers Association at Brook School and co-chairman of the first Hot Lunch at School Program, in addition to being a former member of both the Busy Bee Club and Brook Business Women's Club for 50 years.
Surviving are three daughters, Beverly K. Bixby (husband: Gile) of Longville, Minn., Janet K. Olson (husband: Robert) of St. Paul, Minn., and Nancy D. Schuette of Roselawn.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior to 11 a.m. services Saturday at First Christian Church in Brook, the Rev. Ken Marsh officiating. Interment Riverside Cemetery. Surviving are 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, Winfred I. and Maude Staton Beagley, 1 granddaughter and 3 sisters. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church. Gerts Funeral Home in Brook is in charge of arrangements.
