Lawrence Edwin Beam
ARGOS -- Lawrence Edwin Beam, 87, of 222 N. First St., Argos, died Sept. 30, 2011 at 2:55
p.m. at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth following a brief illness.
He was born July 6, 1924 in Argos to Edwin and Mabel (Hagenbush) Beam. He lived all of his life
in the Argos community. Jan. 23, 1944 in Argos he married
Evelyn Pomeroy; she survives.
Lawrence was a general contractor, owning Beam Construction. He was a member of Walnut
Church of the Brethren, Argos. He served on the Argos Town Board and Zoning Board, and was
a former member of the Plymouth Rotary Club.
He and his wife wintered in Avon Park, Fla. for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing,
and feeding his squirrels and birds.
In addition to his wife, Evelyn Beam of Argos, he is survived by two sons, William Beam of
Argos, Timothy Beam and wife Pamela of Maineville, Ohio; daughter, Beverly Barrett of Argos;
five grandchildren, Elizabeth Yankauskas and husband Brian, Melanie Dean and husband Mark,
Amanda McHugh and husband Michael, Brian Beam, Ben Beam and wife Jamie; five great grandchildren;
two sisters, Betty Heflick of Seattle, Wash., and Marie Wilhelm of Plymouth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tom Beam; sister, Ethel Beam; and infant
son, Larry Beam.
Friends may visit with the family Tuesday Oct. 4, 2011 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Earl-Grossman
Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday Oct. 5, 2011 at the funeral home, with Rev. Robert
Rice of the Walnut Church of the Brethren, Argos officiating.
Burial will be at New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.

Argos, IN 46501.

Sandra L. Cook
BREMEN -- Sandra L. Cook, 68, of Bremen died Oct. 1 in Bremen Health Care.
She is survived by four children, Tom, Don, Ruth, and Ken; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren;
two sisters, Carmen and Gloria; and two brothers, Roger and Don.
Funeral service will be Friday, Oct. 7, 2011 at Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen. Visitation will be
one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
The Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen is assisting the family with arrangements.
Ross G. Murphy
PLYMOUTH -- Ross G. Murphy, 85, Plymouth, passed away peacefully surrounded by his
loving family Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011.
Ross was born July 16, 1926, near Bremen, to John C. and Gladys M. (Gray) Murphy. He
attended Linkville Elementary School and graduated from LaPaz High School in the class of
1944. Ross entered the United States Navy, in June of 1944, and served in the South Pacific. He
was discharged in June of 1946 and discharged from the United Naval Reserves June 10, 1954.
Ross was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge #79 of Rochester and a York Rite member in
South Bend. He was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Ross married
Jean Medlock Nov. 16, 1947. They became parents of two children, David W.
(1955) and Karen I. (1957).
Ross was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, John L. Scofield; and his nephew,
Brent L. Murphy. He is survived by his wife, Jean; his son, David (Colleen) Murphy of Scottsdale,
Ariz.; his daughter Karen Murphy (Dennis Holloway) of Plymouth; his brother, Otho (Bernice)
Murphy of Plymouth; his grandchildren, Nicholas Murphy, Gregory Murphy, Jacob Richard, and
Jackie (Billy) Wood; his step grandson, Camden (Danae) Watts; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Berniece Mae Bailey
PLYMOUTH -- Berniece Mae Bailey, 89, died at 9:10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, in St. Joseph
Regional Medical Center, Plymouth. She was born in Jonesboro May 3, 1922 to the late Pastor
and Etta Mae (Totten) Williams. Berniece married
Edwin Bailey Dec. 23, 1945 and he preceded
her in death in March 1969. She retired from Owens-Illinois Glass Factory, where she had
worked as a secretary. Berniece also worked as the church secretary at First Christian Church of
Gas City, where she was a very active member. She enjoyed needlecraft and gardening. She
was a 'pin-up' girl for War Bonds during WWII.
Survivors include her daughters, Nancy (Francis 'Paul') Widener, Plymouth and Theresa (John)
McGhee, Egg Harbor Township, N.J.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three greatgreat
grandchildren; sisters, Peggy Williams, Oregon, Becky Stanley, Florida, and Carolyn
Duckwall, Upland; sisters-in-law, Pat Williams, Marion, and Elizabeth Williams, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pastor and Etta Mae Williams; husband, Edwin
Bailey; brothers, Edwin, Bill and Wesley Williams; and sister, Ruth Baker.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011 at Needham-Storey-Wampner
Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City.

Michael Evanoff
PLYMOUTH -- Michael Evanoff, 51, died of natural causes at 9:22 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, 2011,
in his residence.
He is survived by his parents, Michael and Beverlee Evanoff, Hacksneck, Va.; two brothers,
Mark (Colleen) Evanoff, Osceola, and Robert Evanoff, Melfa, Va.; and by a sister Debra Bayliss,
Onley, Va.
Visitation is Friday, Oct. 7, 2011, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home,
1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services will follow visitation at 3 p.m. in the funeral home.
Interment will be in the New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
Gerald Leroy Kerr
WALKERTON -- Gerald Leroy Kerr, 82, of Walkerton died Oct. 3, 2011.
He is survived by sisters, Melvina and Norma; and brother, Eugene.
Per his wishes, his body has been donated to science. A memorial service will be held at a later
date.
Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend is handling the
arrangements.
Pauline D. (Mrs. Russell) Peffley
PLYMOUTH -- Pauline D. (Mrs. Russell) Peffley, 90, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 10:20
p.m. in the Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth of natural causes.
Pauline has made Miller’s her home for the past two years and has resided in Plymouth since
1952 coming from Elkhart. For more than 20 years she and her husband spent the majority of
the year in the area of Avon Park, Fla.
Born May 10, 1921 in Mishawaka, she was the daughter of Guy and Ellen (Oatzs) Bordner. She
was raised there and attended Mishawaka High School.
In June of 1938, she married
Robert 'Earl' Sanders and had two daughters; Mary Ann and Sally.
He preceded her in death April 12, 1948. She then married
Russell E. Peffley April 15, 1949 in
Elkhart who preceded her in death April 7, 2003.
Pauline was a fashionable lady known for being a smart shopper. She enjoyed being a
homemaker, talented at crafts and a collector of dolls.
She had been an active member of the County Line Brethren Church in Lakeville also attending
the Plymouth Church of the Brethren. She was a member of the Twin Lakes Home Economics
Club and a determined member of the Avon Park Chapter of TOPS -- Take Off Pounds
Sensibly, having been crowned a queen in her late 70s.
She is survived by her two daughters; Mary Ann Miller and Sally L. Smith both of Plymouth; two
stepdaughters; Barbara (Dwayne) Zeider and Doris (Roger) Stutsman, all of Elkhart;
grandchildren: Jeffrey Miller of Orange City, Fla., Christine Miller of Plymouth, Scott Smith of San
Antonio, Texas and Michael Smith of Mishawaka; step grandchildren: Marc Zeider of Columbia,
Ga. and Vickie Doke of Elkhart; great-grandchildren Tim, Matt, Jeffery, Amanda, Michelle,
Hailey, Tiffany, and step great-grandchildren: Josh and Amanda. A sister, Elsie Black of Grand
Rapids, Mich. and a brother, Dean Bordner of South Bend also survive with nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her spouses, two sisters; June Hoschettler and Heloise Rembusch
and son-in-law; Marvin Miller.
Friends are invited to join the family in celebrating Pauline’s life Sunday, Oct. 9 from 1 to 2 p.m.
in the Plymouth Church of the Brethren, 1130 N. Michigan St. where a memorial service will
begin at 2 p.m. officiated by Pastor Ruth Yoder.

Fern Irene (Kring) Troche
BREMEN -- Fern Irene (Kring) Troche, 89, of Bremen died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011 at the
LuAnn Nursing Home in Nappanee following an extended illness.
She was born April 26, 1922 in North Liberty, to Colonel Eddie and Bessie Pearl (Mull) Kring,
both deceased. Fern is also preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Caspari and Mary Markley,
and her brothers, Claude, Joseph, Howard and Robert Kring.
Fern was a graduate of the North Liberty High School class of 1940 and the St. Joseph Hospital
Nurses Training School where she became a registered nurse.
Fern was married
May 29, 1949 to Alfonso Troche in Castener, Puerto Rico where the two
worked in the Church of the Brethren Hospital. Fern also worked in the Bremen Community
Hospital for a number of years as a registered nurse after returning from Puerto Rico with her
husband and son.
Fern is survived by her husband Alfonso of 62 years, her son Edgardo and his wife Angela; her
son Daniel and his wife Susie; her daughter Nancy and her husband Homer Berry; and her son
Jaime and his wife Debra; as well as seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen
and will be officiated by Pastor Norman Replogle. Burial will follow at the Fair cemetery,
Lakeville.
Friends may call one hour before the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Clarence "Al" Hamman
WARSAW -- Clarence "Al" Hamman, 79, of Warsaw passed away Oct. 7, 2011 at 3:54 a.m. in
his residence.
He was born Dec. 12, 1931 in Kosciusko County to Clarence F. and Ruth (Garrison) Hamman.
June 11, 1982 he married
Deloris "Jean" Geyer in Warsaw.
Clarence served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years, retiring in 1973, then he worked for United
Telephone Co. for 17 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #49, Warsaw. He
also was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Warsaw.
He was survived by his wife, Deloris "Jean" Hamman, Warsaw; daughter, Martha Conley,
Nappanee; stepson, Steven Coy (and spouse Jeannie), Warsaw; two stepdaughters, Susan
Niles and Sally Gilbert (and spouse David), Columbia City; one sister, Margaret Yazel (and
spouse Rex), Mentone; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, numerous nephews and
nieces, and Toby, his faithful furry friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother,
and five sisters.
Visitation hours will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011 in Warsaw at McHatton-Sadler
Funeral Chapels. Graveside service will be held Monday, Oct. 10, 2011 at 1 p.m. at
Oakwood cemetery, Warsaw.
Burial will be at Oakwood cemetery, Warsaw with military honors by the American Legion Post
#49, VFW Post #1126 and the ARNG.
The family requests memorial contributions are to be made out to the donor's choice.
