Chester Elmer Walter
BREMEN -- Chester Elmer Walter, 83, died of natural causes at 6:20 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21,
2011 in the Bremen Health Care, where he has made his home for the past four years.
The son of George E. and Dora E. (Sheneman) Walter, Chester was born Jan. 13, 1928 in
South Bend. Known to many as Chet, he was a 1946 graduate of Lakeville High School.
June 24, 1949, Chet married Edith Irene Smith at the Holland Family home in Teegarden. The
couple had met at a youth activity at the County-Line Brethren Church.
Chet was a truck driver for Bremen Co-Op for 10 years and then worked for Dodge
Manufacturing, a foundry in Mishawaka until retiring after 17 years in 1984. He was also a
member of the Pine Creek Church in North Liberty.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Edith, and their children: Jay A. (Shirley) Walter
Sr. of Plymouth, Lyle L. (Glendy) Walter Sr. of South Bend, Connie L Miller of Nappanee,
George E. (Kris) Walter of LaPaz, Sue A. (Richard Sr.) Wagoner of Plymouth, John H. (Vonna)
Walter of Bremen, Lori A. Walter of Lorain, Ohio, Patti A. (Ronald) Thomas of Plymouth,
William D. (Heidi) Leighty of South Bend, and Marcia A. Walter of Bremen. Also surviving are 26
grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Elsworth Walter and a son-in-law Charlie
Miller.
Visitation will be held in the Pine Creek Church of the Brethren, 69531 Pine Road, North Liberty
from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, 2011. Funeral services for Chet will be held in the church at 11
a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26 with calling one hour prior. Pastor Steve VanHouten will be officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fair cemetery, North Liberty.
Preferred are memorial gifts in Chet’s name to the church.
The Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth is assisting with arrangements.

Dave Berger
NAPPANEE -- Dave Berger, 68, of 27601 C.R. 50, Nappanee, died unexpectedly of natural
causes at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at Elkhart General Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, Mikel (Jessica) Berger, West LaFayette, and David
(Michelle) Berger Jr., Lancaster, Calif.; one grandson; and brothers, Don (Rita) Berger,
Wakarusa, and Bob (Maria) Berger, South Bend.
Visitation is Friday, Nov. 25, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home,
Nappanee, and one hour prior to the funeral service which will be Saturday, at 10:30 a.m., at
Nappanee United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Union Center cemetery.

Victoria Guseilla
PLYMOUTH -- Victoria Guseilla, 88, of LaSalle Ave., South Bend, died at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Nov.
22, 2011, at herhome.
Victoria is survived by her sisters, Elizabeth Torok of South Bend; Eve Guseilla of Rocky River,
Ohio; and Margaret Winsted of Chicago.
Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300
W. Madison St., Plymouth.
Services will be Monday, Nov. 28, at 1 p.m., at the Van Gilder Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Saint Michael cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorials may be given to Saint Michael Catholic
Church, 612 N. Walnut St., Plymouth, IN, 46563, or to the
choice of the donor.

Lloyd S. Ransbottom
LAKEVILLE -- Lloyd S. Ransbottom, 41, died Tuesday, Nov. 22, in his home.
He is survived by two sisters, Kathryn (Tony) Passafume and Becky (Doug) Hill, both of
Walkerton.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. EST at Woodlawn cemetery in Walkerton.
There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the family.

Eunice Stidham
CULVER -- Eunice Stidham, 73, of Culver died Nov. 22, 2011. She is survived by her husband,
Kenneth Stidham of Culver; daughters, Karen Ketchum of Culver, Pamela (Todd) Hovarter of
Knox; brother, William Fields of Tennessee; sister, Laura Collette of Pierceton; and 10
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 25, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Odom Funeral Home, Culver. Service
will be Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011 at 3 p.m. at Monterey United Methodist Church, with one hour
visitation before the service. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial cemetery, Monterey. Memorials
may be made to Monterey First Responders.

Francis J. Wattenbarger
SUNNYSIDE, Wash. -- Francis J. Wattenbarger, 90, caring father, father-in-law, grandfather,
great-grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully Nov. 22, 2011 after a brief illness. Francis
was a longtime resident and farmer in the Glade Community in the Horse Heaven Hills of
Southern Washington.
Francis was born Oct. 21, 1921 in Half Moon Bay, Calif. His parents were Grover and Daisey
Wattenbarger of Mabton, Wash. He graduated from Mabton High School and shortly after the
attack on Pearl Harbor, enlisted in the U.S. Navy, proudly serving his country in the Pacific
Theater. Jan. 26, 1946 he married Katie Kinkade in Sunnyside, Wash. This marriage lasted
more than 64 years. To this union were born two sons, Larry and Kirk. He tragically lost his son
Kirk to ALS in 2004.
Survivors include his son Larry (Dena), Bourbon; daughter-in-law Kay, Sunnyside, Wash.;
grandchildren Alissa (Wes Pugh), Bourbon; Ryan Wattenbarger, Kennewick, Wash.; Emily
Wattenbarger, Rochester; Chad Wattenbarger, Sunnyside, Wash.; and great-granddaughter
Kacie Pugh, Bourbon.
He was preceded in death by his wife Katie, son Kirk, and great-grandson Kyle Pugh.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Francis’ name be made to ALS
Association, and Kyle’s Klass.
Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 28, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the Sunnyside Grace Brethren
Church. Burial will follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside, Wash.

Sherry Jane Long
PLYMOUTH -- Sherry Jane Long, 52, died peacefully at her home Wednesday morning in the
company of her family and assisted care of hospice volunteers. A lifetime Marshall County
resident, Sherry has resided on King Road in Plymouth for the past 11 years. She was
diagnosed with cancer April 8, 2010.
Sherry was born Jan. 19, 1959, the daughter of Duane W. and Sandra Lee (Dick) Hurford. She
was a graduate of LaVille High School in 1977, where she played in the band.
May 8, 1982, Sherry and Dennis P. Long were united in marriage at the First Presbyterian
Church in Plymouth. To that union two children were born, Matthew and Allison.
Sherry was a doer, drawing little attention to herself but always there for others. Since 2000 she
has been active in supporting the family’s sport of go-kart racing as a fan and food lady.
Her career in association with the medical field allowed her to care for others and gave her the
passion to continue moving forward through her own illness and continued to work until
November of this year. Sherry began her work history in 1977 in the office of Drs. Robertson,
Kubley and Holm at the Plymouth Medical Group. She moved to General Vascular Surgery at St.
Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth and for a time in South Bend. She returned to
work with Dr. Vanlandingham’s office and then Marshall County OB/GYN before returning to her
position of office supervisor with Marshall County Surgery Associates in Plymouth. Through all of
that she found the time to volunteer with the Plymouth EMS service for six years following its
inception in January of 1978.
Sherry is survived by her husband Denny, son Matthew D. Long of Indianapolis, and daughter
Allison K. Long a student at Manchester College.
Her sister, Penny (Jeff) Krieg of Plymouth, her brother, Randy (Dianna) Hurford of Plymouth and
beloved cousin Pam (Jim) Kane of Natrona Heights, Pa. also survive with many nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Lisa Diane Hurford.
The family will welcome friends from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011 in the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St. Plymouth. Services will follow visitation in the
funeral home at 5 p.m. with Rev. Charles Krieg officiating.
Graveside services will take place Monday at 10 a.m. in the Summit Chapel cemetery located
on State Highway 10 near Tippecanoe.
Memorial gifts may be made to Center for Hospice Care, 112 S. Center St., Plymouth, IN 46563.

Iola M. Mayfield
BOURBON -- Iola M. Mayfield, 87, of 420 E. Center St., Bourbon, died at 3:42 a.m.,
Wednesday, Nov. 23, at her residence after a long illness.
She is survived by daughters, Phyllis Irene Atkinson, Bourbon and Darlene (Henry) Berda,
Morrisville, Vt., seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home,
Nappanee. Funeral services will follow at 6 p.m.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. EST at Chapel Lawn cemetery in Schererville.

Charles G. Moore
PLYMOUTH -- Charles G. Moore, 82, passed away Wednesday afternoon at his home on
Emerald Court, Plymouth. He had been in declining health over the past few years but was able
to remain mobile and at home with the loving care of his wife Jan and family.
Born Dec. 10, 1928 in Indianapolis he was the son of Charles Everett Moore and Catherine
Campbell Galbraith Moore. Charles graduated from Emmanuel High School in Indianapolis.
From 1951 to 1953 he served in the U.S. Army stationed in Europe and attained corporal. His
father and four brothers also served in the military, his brother Robert perished in the Battle of the Bulge.
Charles was first married to Shirley Eileen Oberle Moore Aug. 10, 1953 in Indianapolis. She
preceded in death Aug. 7, 1986. March 7, 1987 in the Shiloh Wesleyan Church he took as his
bride Janice E. Smith Moore. They have remained faithful members of Shiloh.
Charles and his wife Shirley were Tupperware Distributors in the Indianapolis area. He was a
paint specialist and had worked for Tom Wood in Indianapolis and later for Barth Motorhomes in
Milford. He also worked for Fairmont Homes and retired from Hoosier Tire in 1998.
Woodworking, crafts, gardening and yard work were some of Charles’ favorite pastimes.
He is survived by his wife Jan, and children; Terri Sue (Jim) Thompson of Tampa, Fla., Jennie
Lynn Moore of Tampa, Fla., Charles Arthur Moore of Lakeville, James William Coburn of
Plymouth, Debra Lynn (Steve) Keen of LaPaz and Barbara Ann (David) Sommers of Plymouth.
Also surviving are 10 grandchildren. They are: Jamie, Bubba, Christopher, Tyler, Emily, Bianca,
Mikayla, Jennifer, Jordan and Noah along with four great-grandchildren and his beloved pet;
Princess Lynn Moore.
Two brothers and a sister survive Charles; Richard Moore of Greenwood, John Moore of
Franklin, and Janet (Edwin) Ratcliffe of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepson; Kelly William Coburn, brothers; Jerome,
Tom and Robert Moore and a sister Catherine Stoffer.
Visitation for Charles will be held Tuesday, Nov.29, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the JohnsonDanielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St. Plymouth. Funeral services will be held at 11
a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011 in the funeral home. The Rev. John Perkinson will
officiate. Burial will follow in the New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth with military honors provided
by members of the Plymouth American Legion Post 27, VFW Post 1162, DAV and South Bend Honor Guard.
Memorial gifts may be made in Charles’ name to the Shiloh Wesleyan Church, 10532 4B Road,
Plymouth, IN 46563 or Gideon’s International Bible Program. Many thanks to Southern Care
Hospice Program for their support during this difficult time.

Gladys M. Wagner
WAKARUSA -- Gladys M. Wagner, 94, of Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa formerly of
Nappanee, died at 3:25 am, Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011 at the nursing home.
Surviving are a daughter, Annette (Michael) Umbaugh and a son, Larry (Char) Wagner, both of
Nappanee, soninlaw, Michael Neff, Syracuse, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren,
and a sister, Vera Beadle, Hubbard Hill, Elkhart.
Visitation is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Nappanee Missionary Church, prior to the
funeral service at 10:30.
Burial will be in Union Center cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to the church.

Paul D. Feltner
BREMEN -- Paul D. Feltner, 66, of Bremen died Nov. 24, 2011 at Community Hospital of Bremen.
He is survived by his wife, Sherrie; and sister, Sue (Charlie) Masterson of Texas.
Funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28 at Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Mishler Funeral Home. Burial will take place at a
later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
The Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen is assisting the family with arrangements.

Phyllis M. (Deacon) Guthrie
PLYMOUTH -- Phyllis M. (Deacon) Guthrie, 81, of 11024 E. 11th Road, Plymouth died at 2:45
p.m., Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at her home.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Pete) Babendrager of Plymouth, Sharon (Mike) Bryant
of Plymouth, and Diana (John) Harness of Shelbyville; her sons, Larry (Kay) Deacon of Bremen,
Robert Deacon of Plymouth, and David Deacon of Plymouth; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren;
her sister Willodean Gilupker of Saint Joseph, Mich.; and her brother, John
(Betty) Stull of Tyner.
Private graveside services will be held. Burial will be in New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Center for Hospice Care, 112 S.
Center St., Plymouth, IN 46563.
Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W.Madison St., Plymouth, is handling the arrangements.
