John Maurice, Jr. Schrader
BREMEN -- John Maurice Schrader Jr., 80, of Bremen, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011 at Bremen
Health Care Center.
He is survived by his wife, Marsha; two daughters, Michelle Ann (Michael) Hazzard of Granger,
Suzanne Marie Schrader of Bremen; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and two
sisters, Mary Alice (Jim) Smith of Mishawaka and Barbara (David) Koehler of South Bend.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2011 at the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen. Burial
will follow in the Bremen cemetery.
Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011 and one hour prior to the service Friday at the
funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Community Hospital of Bremen.
The Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen is assisting the family with arrangements.

Phyllis J. Smith
PLYMOUTH -- Phyllis J. Smith, 82, of LaPorte, formerly of Plymouth, died in the IU Health
LaPorte Hospital Monday, Dec. 5, 2011.
Born in Plymouth Jan. 28, 1929, Phyllis was the daughter of Glenn and Myrtle Dietl Tillman.
She graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1946, and from the International
Business College shortly afterward.
She was first married to Robert B. Staner and later to Charles Smith.
She worked as a legal secretary for the Stevens & Travis Law Firm and with the Salem United
Methodist Church as a secretary. She also worked in the County Clerk’s office where she
married many couples. At one time, she owned an egg route in South Bend and Bremen.
Phyllis loved to travel. She enjoyed collecting antiques and had an extensive array of Fenton
glass. She enjoyed yard work, flower gardening, knitting and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Charles.
Phyllis is survived by two daughters: Kay and Thomas Toll, LaPorte, and Diana and Gary Lipply,
of Plymouth.
Six grandchildren also survive: Tyler Toll, Maegan (Douglas) Hawkins, LaPorte, Julia Lipply and
Courtney Lipply, of Plymouth and Andrew Lipply of DeMonte, and Whitney (Doug) Kingseed of
Sweetser.
Two great-grandchildren survive as well: Adalyn Kingseed and Brenden Stodden.
Friends are invited to meet with Phyllis’ family to share condolences and memories Thursday,
Dec. 8, 2011, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services for Phyllis will be held at the Shiloh Wesleyan Church, 10542 4B Road.,
Plymouth, at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2011. The Rev. John Perkinson will officiate.
Interment will be in New Oakhill cemetery.
Memorial gifts in Phyllis’ memory may be made to the Shiloh Wesleyan Church or the LaPorte
Assembly of God.

Eileen D. Boardman
ROCHESTER -- Eileen D. Boardman, 88, formerly of Rochester, died at Plainfield Health Care
Center, Plainfield, Dec. 7, 2011.
She is survived by four daughters, Diane Kay Boardman of Lebanon, Janet Sue (Donald)
Gouldsmith of Clayton, Carol Jean (James) Mann of Martinsville, Karen Ann Marosz of Holland,
Mich.; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Clouse of
Rensselaer.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, 2011 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W.
18th St., Rochester. Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday.
Burial will be in the Rochester IOOF cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association.

Donald C. Eads
PLYMOUTH -- Donald C. Eads, 85, of 320 S. 5th St., Plymouth, passed away at 2:45 a.m.
Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Donald was born Jan. 20, 1926, in Mooresville, to Albert and Pearl (Cummins) Eads. He was a
1946 graduate of LaPaz High School. Oct. 24, 1948, Donald married the former Delores Keel in
Plymouth. Donald was a member of the First Baptist Church, in Plymouth, and a lifetime resident
of the area. Donald retired from Indiana Tool after 33 years of service. He also worked at The
Pilot News, Studebaker, Blue Cab Store, Marshall County Co-op, the Lloyd Kaiser Farms, and
Walmart.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, of 62 years, Delores Eads; their daughters, Madelyn Werb
of Plymouth, Kathleen Eads of Plymouth, and Deborah Eads of Plymouth; his sister, Sharon
Poorman of Plymouth; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several greatgreat-grandchildren.
Donald was preceded in death by his sons, Herbert J. Eads in 1972 and
Donald Eads in 1950; his sisters, Lillian Hullinger and Mary Wright; and his brothers, Jim Eads,
Alan Eads, and Gene Eads.

Tom A. Farrer
BREMEN -- Tom A. Farrer, 90, of Bremen, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 at the Bremen
Health Care Center.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Bremen; one daughter Sally Smith of Bremen; one son
Jack (Peggy) Farrer of Bremen; one stepson Charles 'Chuck' Berkey of Bremen; one
stepdaughter Tammy (Fred) Fuchs of Bremen; five grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren,
four great-great-grandsons; three brothers Dean (Lois) Farrer of Bremen, Pat
Farrer of Bremen, Don (Joyce) Farrer of Elkhart; and one sister-in-law Jeanette Farrer of
Martinsville.
Services will be held Monday, Dec. 12, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen.
Private family burial will be held at Olive cemetery in Wakarusa.
Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011 at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or
Hospice of Marshall County.
The Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mary Elizabeth Heckaman
ARGOS -- Mary Elizabeth Heckaman, 87, of 18770 Maple Road, Argos, died Wednesday, Dec.
7, 2011 in Sebring, Fla.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Ed) DeMont of Plymouth, Rosemary (Ron) Cullers of
Mexico; a son, Mike (Jan) Heckaman of Argos; a brother, Allen Neff of Sebring, Fla.; eight
grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St.,
Rochester. Visitation is from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service in the funeral
home.
Burial will be at New Oak Hill cemetery.

Eldon G. Ropp
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Eldon G. Ropp, 79, died Dec. 7, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
He is survived by his children, Catherine Ropp, Elson (Arlene) Ropp, both of Kalona, Iowa,
Margaret (Martin) Yoder, Nappanee, Delores (Jacob) Schwartz, Bremen, Sanford Ropp,
Goshen, Rebecca Ropp, Nappanee, Ira (Jo Ann) Ropp, Milford, Inez Ropp, Nappanee; nine
stepchildren, Anna (Mervin) Mast, Bremen, Rosella U (Henry) Wagler, DeGroff, Ohio, Jacob U
(Delores) Schwartz, Bremen, Susan Mae (Eli) Schwartz, Hamilton, Katie Irene (Merlin)
Hochstetler, Nappanee, Mary U. (Wilmer) Schwartz, Hamilton, Joseph U (Florence) Schwartz,
Bronson, Mich., Rudy U. (Polly) Schwartz, Chouteau, Okla., Edna U (Perry) Borntrager, Etna
Green; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 52 step grandchildren; 15 step great grandchildren;
three brothers, Edwin, Wilbur, and Norman Ropp, all of Kalona, Iowa; two sisters,
Mary and Lydia Ropp, both of Kalona, Iowa.
Visitation is all day Saturday at the Jacob Schwartz Residence (1161 3rd Road, Bremen). The
funeral service will be Sunday, at 9:30 a.m., at the Dennis Hochstetler Residence (2735 Birch
Road). Burial will be at Burkholder cemetery.
Thompson-Lengacher & Funeral Home, Nappanee, is helping the family with local arrangements.

Helen Jane Large Shriver
ARGOS -- Helen Jane Large Shriver, 87, of 20912 Iris Road, Argos, passed away at 7:45 a.m.,
Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 at her residence.
Jane was born in Fulton County June 5, 1924, the daughter of Emery Vernice and Clovie Annice
Stayton Large. Growing up she was one of eight children, sharing her childhood with two sisters
Juanita and Susan and five brothers Chester, Odd, Bee, Orville and Sam. With great pride she
graduated with the class of 1942 from Leiter’s Ford High School.
Helen Jane and Jesse Floyd Shriver Sr. were married after repeating their wedding vows. From
their union was born three sons Floyd Jr., Monte and Scott. Over the years the family tree grew
to include five generations.
An accomplished seamstress, Jane worked at Topps, later she worked for Hart Schaffner Marx
until her retirement after 35 years of dedicated service. A loyal and devoted member of the St.
John Lutheran Church she was also a member of the Luther-Anns. More recently when she was
unable to attend Sunday services she watched Worship for Shut - Ins sponsored by her church.
Driving a stick shift was Jane’s forte. She’s remembered as a bargain hunter, coupon cutter and
being the glue of the family. An avid reader, she owned a vast collection of the Reader’s Digest
condensed books.
Annually Jane would plant a garden. The bountiful harvest was canned enough for the entire
year. Her green beans, tomatoes, peaches, peas and apricots were in high demand till the
harvest of the next year’s yield. She also froze raspberries. Taking great pride in her yard, Jane
planted flowers that embraced her home adding color throughout the summer.
Sundays were family days and Jane welcomed them with red carpet treatment. Her pies were
second to none. The most requested were her apple, cherry, raspberry and graham cracker
pies. She always prepared more than enough to eat, so she sent home extras for her kids to
dine on. Jane especially enjoyed being with her family and heading up the culinary detail at the
holidays.
Jane will be lovingly remembered by her three sons: Floyd Shriver Jr. of Argos, Monte L. Shriver
and wife Sue of Plymouth, Roark Scott Shriver of Valparaiso, four grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren,
nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Floyd May 23, 1983, two sisters: Juanita
Hicks and Susan Marie Kuiper and five brothers: Chester Large, Alfred Leroy 'Odd' Large,
Lester B. 'Bee' Large, Orville Large, and Delbert E. 'Sam' Large and a daughter-in-law Helen
Faye Shriver.
A celebration of the life of Helen Jane Shriver will be at 1 p.m., Saturday at Good Family Funeral
Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester, with Rev. Jim Wasmuth officiating. Friends may visit with
the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. She will be laid to eternally rest
next to her beloved husband Floyd in the Leiters Ford IOOF cemetery. Her family requests
memorial gifts may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Worship for Shut-Ins or to Hope
Hospice of Fulton County.

Thelma Janet Hall
BOURBON -- Thelma Janet Hall, 97, of Bourbon passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2011 at 4:30 p.m.
at home in the care of her family and Hospice.
Thelma was born the daughter of Urben Roahrig and Coral Banks Roahrig Nov. 27, 1914 at
Bourbon. She was a resident of Bourbon all her life. She was a 1932 graduate of Bourbon High
School. She was a homemaker, farmer’s wife and owned Hall’s Western Store of Bourbon for
many years. She also worked at GMAC Associates of South Bend.
Thelma had many interests that included being the co-founder of the Silver Dollar Saddle Club,
tremendous supporter of 4-H and served as secretary to the Bourbon Fair Horse
Superintendent. She and her husband were the first people in the area to raise Quarter Horses
and they enjoyed belonging to the Frances Slocum Trail Riders (Diamond X Campground) of
Peru. She also was a member of the Yellow River Club, Home Ec Club and enjoyed reading and
watching the antics of the dog, cat and Canada geese. She was a caretaker to everyone!
Dec. 23, 1934 she was married to Chester O. Hall who died Nov. 30, 2002. She is survived by
her four children; Margaret and husband James Bates, Janet Trowbridge, Chester (Chet) and
wife Jane Hall and Stephen and wife Rose Ann Hall all of Bourbon. She also was blessed with
12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild,
three step great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Marilee and Alvin Eugene 'Gene'
Koontz of Ft. Wayne.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Guy Roahrig.
In honoring her wishes a private burial was held at Pleasant Hill cemetery.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice in her memory.
Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home is caring for the arrangements.
