Arthur W. Legler, 89
REMINGTON -- Arthur "Art" William Legler, 89, of Remington, died at 2:25 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette.
Born April 28, 1916, in Avoca, Minn., he was a former resident of Gary and Highland before moving to Remington in 2000. He married Helen Barno in 1973 and she preceded him in death in 1978.
Mr. Legler worked as a foreman at Inland Steel in Gary.
He was a 60-year member of the Orak Shriners in Michigan City, a 60-year member of the Indiana Harbor Masonic Lodge and a member of Hammond York Rite, Scottish Rite and the Griffith Lutheran Church in Griffith.
Surviving are a brother, Victor Legler of Albuquerque, N.M.; and a sister, Elaine Agnitich of Minnesota.
Masonic service will be held at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday with visitation to follow at Stitz Funeral Home in Remington. Funeral service there 11 a.m. Wednesday, the Revs. Randy Sparks and Andrew Bailey officiating. Interment Remington Cemetery, Remington. Surviving is a niece, Vera (Marvin) Sutter of Remington. Preceded in death by 5 brothers and 4 sisters. Memorials to the First Christian Church, Remington or the Griffith Lutheran Church, Griffith.

Eleanor Whaley, 83, of 6600 Wyandotte Road, died at 840 a.m. Monday, Sept. 5, 2005, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Milton F. Stone Jr., 75, of Lafayette, died at 10:34 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

Tracey S. Baum, 37
Tracey S. Baum, 37, of 6017 E. County Road 1400 S., Galveston, died at 10:02 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, in Chase Center, Logansport.
Born June 25, 1968, in Logansport, she graduated from Carroll High School in 1987 and attended Ivy Tech.
Miss Baum had been a qualified medical assistant at Chase Center.
She attended Upper Deer Creek Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are her mother, June Baum of Flora; and a sister, Jerilyn Baum, and a brother, William Baum, both of Flora; and her fiance, John Barger of Galveston.
Friends may call 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Reinke Funeral Home, Flora. Service there at 11 a.m. Friday, Pastor Larry DeVos officiating. Interment Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora. Surviving are a niece, Nicole Kaley of Hesperia, Calif., and a nephew, Nathanial Flora of Flora. Memorials to Carroll County Cancer Association.
Emma M. Bishop, 91
Emma Mildred Bishop, 91, formerly a longtime resident of Lafayette, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, in Round Rock Texas.
Her husband of 65 years, Floyd Bishop, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Tom Bishop (wife: DeeAnn) of Austin, Texas, and John Bishop (wife: Connie) of High Point, N.C.
Services 11 a.m. Saturday at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, Marble Falls, Texas. Interment Fall Creek Cemetery, Spicewood, Texas. Preceded in death by a daughter, Pat Newhart; a son, Rick Bishop; 3 brothers Ivan, Don and Jack Southard; and a sister Helen;and a geat-grandson, Wesley Newhart.
F. Louise Green, 78
F. Louise Jones Green, 78, of 1000 Winthrop Ave., died at 3:15 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at Home Hospital. She had been in failing health one year.
Born Sept. 30, 1926, in Elizabethtown, Ky., she had lived in Lafayette most of her life. She attended Newtown High School and Purdue University.
Her first marriage was to Harley W. Roudebush in 1942. She married Harold R. Green on May 26, 1983, in Lafayette.
Mrs. Green was a draftsman with the Farm Clinic in West Lafayette, retiring in 1985. She formerly was a licensed practical nurse.
She was a member of Crestview United Brethren Church and was a librarian and was active in the quilting circle at the church. She also was a member of the Women's Marine Corps Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She enjoyed flea markets, antiquing and gardening.
She had been a Republican vice committeeman in Fairfield 31 for the past 10 years, she had been listed in the annual directory since it began in 1998 and received an award for recognition as an outstanding precinct worker five years ago. She was an election board worker in her precinct for many years and a member of the Republican Women's Club. She served as chairperson of the bingo committee at the YWCA until 2004.
Surviving with her husband; are two sons, Ira H. Roudebush (wife: Dianna) of Lafayette, and Larry W. Roudebush (wife: Christina) of Reynolds; three daughters, Harlene L. McCollum (husband: David) of Indianapolis, Letitia A. Barnett of Reynolds and Shari J. Fugate (husband: David) of Linden; two stepchildren, Cheryl A. Butz (husband: Jack) of Brookston and Sandra J. Pijanowski (husband: Jerry) of Urbana, Ill.; a sister, Beulah Barnhart of West Lafayette; and a brother, Frank Jones of Attica.
Billy J. Huddleston, 76
Billy J. Huddleston, 76, of Rainbow Drive, died at 11:14 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at Home Hospital.
Born Jan. 22, 1929, in Keiser, Ark., he attended Purdue University.
He married Dorothy L. Frost on July 12, 1952, in Blytheville, Ark. She survives.
Mr. Huddleston served in the Army from Nov. 16, 1950, to March 31, 1972, retiring after 22 years as a staff sergeant.
He also had worked for 12 years at Pillsbury and eight years in the dining room at Caterpillar.
He enjoyed cooking and yardwork.
Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Carol Brennan (husband: Andy Jack) of Savannah, Ga., Norma Montes (husband: George) of Hammond and Phyllis Fletcher (husband: Kyle) of Lafayette; a sister, Nora Norris of Little Rock, Ark., and two brothers, Charles Spence of Texas and Jerry Spence of Osceloa, Ark.
Visitation 1 hour prior to the service at 2 p.m. Thursday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., the Rev. David Mills officiating. Interment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Eleven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren survive.
Richard L. Markwith, 77
Richard L. Markwith, 77, of Lafayette, died at 2:50 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, 2005, at Mayers Memorial Hospital in Fall River Mills, Calif.
Born in Lafayette on June 18, 1928, he had lived in California for a year and in Kansas City, Mo., for 25 years. He returned to Lafayette two years ago.
He married Effie Maxine Griffin on April 15, 1975, in Missouri, and she died July 30, 2003.
Mr. Markwith served in the Navy for 21 years and worked as a boiler tender in sheet metal production in Kansas City, Mo.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Eagles and Moose lodges. He enjoyed fishing and bowling.
Surviving are a son, Randy Markwith (wife: Jeanine) of Burney, Calif.; a daughter, Mildred Self of San Ramon, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Roxanna Weston of Terre Haute; and a stepson, Lawrence "Bill" Gilliam of Orange City, Fla.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the service time at 2 p.m.. Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at Hippensteel Funeral Home, the Rev. Dr. Clayton Kendall officiating. Interment Farmers Institute Cemetery, with American Legion Post 11 military honors. Surviving are 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by a son, Richard Lee Markwith Jr.; a stepson, Michael Gilliam; his parents, Charles F. and Nellie A. Bailey Markwith; and a stepgrandson, Jeremy Gilliam. Frank A. Stall, 53
Frank A. "Andy" Stall, 53, of 3007 Mount Court, Lafayette, died at 2:45 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at his residence.
Born Feb. 5, 1952, in Lebanon, he lived most of his life in the Lafayette area. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1970, and received his bachelor's degree from Ball State University.
Mr. Stall was a self-employed jeweler. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are a daughter, Brooke L. Stall of Clarks Hill; two sons, Gabe Stall (wife: Shanda) of Jacksonville, N.C., and Neal Stall of Clarks Hill; his parents, John M. II and Barbara Thornburgh Stall of West Lafayette; a brother, John M. Stall (wife: Pamela) of Lafayette; and two sisters, Becky Mathews (husband: Larry) of Williamsport and Patti Imes (husband: Larry) of Lafayette.
Visitation 2 hours prior the service at 11 a.m. Friday at Soller-Baker Funeral Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., J. William Overbay officiating. Interment Clarks Hill (Ind.) Cemetery. Surviving are grandsons, Dalton and Brayden Stall. Memorials to charity of donor's choice.
Elizabeth E. Tuttle, 92
Elizabeth E. Tuttle, 92, formerly of Winchester, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
She was born on Sept. 26, 1912, in Delaware County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford M. Tuttle, in 1985.
She had a seamstress business in her home.
Mrs. Tuttle was a member of Winchester Friends Church, where she was active with the Women's Society, was active in Farm Bureau and a home extension club and was a member of the Wise Owls. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking.
Surviving is a son, Charles A. Tuttle (wife: Jenny) of West Lafayette.
Friends of the family may call 1 hour prior to the service at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2005, at Thayer Funeral Home, Winchester, Pastor Ronald Ferguson officiating. Interment Tomlinson Cemetery, Muncie. A granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Tuttle of West Lafayette, survives. Memorials may be give to the United Society of Friends Women in care of the church.
