Josephine Beatrice Sass
SUGAR LAND, Texas — Josephine Beatrice Sass, 86, of Sugar Land, Texas, passed away
Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010.
She was born May 3, 1923, in Plymouth, to Bernard and Viola Beatrice Nickerson Scheetz.
Josephine was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend,
who will be greatly missed by those who loved her, and by those whose lives she touched.
Josephine is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Yamauchi and her husband Robert; son,
Stephen Burhans; grandchildren: David Yamauchi, John Douglas Burhans and his wife Barbara,
and Paul Marcus Burhans; great-grandchildren, Sara, Paige, and Emily Burhans; brother, David
Scheetz and his wife Gwen; and sister, Viola Mae Keck.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Sass; parents, Bernard and Viola Scheetz;
and sister, Mildred Gilbert.
As per her desire, there are no formal services.
The Settegast Kopf Co. at Sugar Creek was entrusted with arrangements.

John B. Stukenborg
GRAND JUNCTION, Mich. — John B. Stukenborg, 72, 07487 Lovers Lane, Grand Junction,
Mich., passed away at 1:25 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at Saint Vincent Seton Specialty
Hospital, in Indianapolis.
John was born March 1, 1937, in Chicago, Ill. to John and Mathilde (Bauer) Stuckenborg. The
family moved from Chicago to Plymouth.
Sue Downhour and John Stukenborg were united in marriage Dec. 11, 1987.
John worked for International Paper, in Grand Junction, as a production engineer. For the past
12 years they have lived in Grand Junction, moving there from Kankakee, Ill.
John was a member of Saint Teresa Catholic Church in Kankakee.
John is survived by wife, Sue Stukenborg of Grand Junction; his sons: John M. and Michaela
Stukenborg of South Bend, David A. and Kristine Stukenborg of Bourbonnais, Ill., and Scott and
Debbie Stukenborg of Indianapolis; his brothers, Henry and Joann Stukenborg of Plymouth and
Bernard and Margaret Stukenborg of Missouri. Five grandsons and one granddaughter also survive.
Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society.

Sandra L. Hurford
PLYMOUTH – Sandra L. Hurford, of Plymouth, died at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010 at her
residence, following an illness.
She is survived by daughters, Sherry (Denny) Long and Penny (Jeff) Krieg, all of Plymouth; and
son, Randy (Dianna) Hurford of Plymouth.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 4 at Johnson-Danielson Funeral
Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 5 at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at New Oakhill cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marshall County Center for Hospice and Palliative
Care or the Tyner United Methodist Women’s Group.

Anna Marie Chidalek Knepper
CULVER — Anna Marie Chidalek Knepper, 73, of Culver, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010 at St
Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth.
She is survived by her husband Jerry; sons, Brad (Lawrie) Knepper of Sandwich, Ill. and Chad
Knepper of South Bend; step-son Jon (Carolyn) Knepper of Sulphur, La.; and step-daughter
Jackie (Rick) Jozwiak of Middlebury; three granddaughters; five grandsons; sisters-in-law,
Elizabeth Chidalek of Whiting, Donna Chidalek of Logansport, and Joanne Stratton of Plymouth;
as well as many nieces and nephews and friends.
Visitation will take place from 9:30 to 11 a.m. (EDT) Saturday, March 6, at St. Mary’s of the Lake
Catholic Church, Culver.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Burial will take place at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice or to the family.
The Odom Funeral Home, Culver, was entrusted with arrangements.

Joshua Ezekiel LeVan
MISHAWAKA — Joshua Ezekiel LeVan, newborn, died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010 at
Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
He is survived by his parents, Jonathan and Kristin LeVan; grandparents: Dr. Nelson and Glenda
Worden of Bremen and Gary and Gail LeVan of Constantine, Mich.; and great-grandparents:
Floyd LeVan Jr. of Union, Mich., Pauline Jones of Three Rivers, Mich., and Dorothy Schrock of
Constantine, Mich.
Visitation will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 4 at Saint Mark’s Missionary Church,
Mishawaka.
Funeral services will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Burial will follow at Kessington (Sailor) cemetery, Union, Mich.

Dr. Wayne J. "Skip" VanDerWeele
PITTSBURGH, Penn. — Dr. Wayne J. “Skip” VanDerWeele, 84, formerly of Argos and
Plymouth, died at 7:50 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010 at Forbes Hospice, Pittsburgh, Penn.
following a lengthy illness.
He is survived by a son, Bill (Carol) VanDerWeele of Gaithersburg, Md.; a daughter, Suzanne
(Tim) Woods of New Kensington, Penn.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 4 at Earl-Grossman Funeral Home,
208 N. Michigan St., Argos and one hour prior to the services Friday.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, March 5 at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Maple Grove cemetery, Argos.

Geraldine Williams Willyerd
ROCHESTER — Geraldine Williams Willyerd, 63, of Rochester, died at 9:34 a.m. Sunday, Feb.
28, 2010 at Woodlawn Hospital.
She is survived by daughters Teresa Tolle of Rochester and Cindy Willyerd of Logansport; a
son, Edward Willyerd of Conway, Ark.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers:
Floyd (Myrtle) Williams of Jefferson, Texas, Larry (Linda) Williams of Blue River, Ky. and Jerry
(Terry) Williams of Conway, Ark. and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and greatnephews.
Private family services will be held.

Ferol Hammond
AKRON — Ferol Hammond, 94, of 311 Saner Drive, Akron, died at 6:30 a.m. Monday, March 1,
2010 at her residence.
She is survived by two sons, Jim B. Hammond of Indianapolis and Danny J. “Doc” Hammond of
Indianapolis; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Renfroe of Akron;
several nieces and nephews; a special niece Karen (Loren) Burkett Hylton of Carroll, Col.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 3 and one hour prior to services
Thursday at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 4, at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in the Athens cemetery.

PLYMOUTH — Ann A. Allman, 94, of Plymouth, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 12:15 p.m. at
her son Wallace’s home, in Plymouth.
She is survived by her sons, Wallace (Lennie) Oyler and Paul (Alice) Oyler, all of Plymouth; her
daughter, Rebecca (David) Matson of Cedarville, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren;
and four great-great-grandchildren.
Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, was entrusted with the private family
services.

James Richard Deardorff
NAPPANEE — James “Jim” Richard Deardorff, 62, of Nappanee, died at 10:54 a.m. Tuesday,
March 2, 2010 at William Middleton VA Hospital, Madison, Wis.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; daughters, Tammy (Bill) Holdeman and Tracey Doerr, all of
Nappanee; step-daughters, Lisa (Brian) Hollingsworth of Yorba Linda, Calif. and Angela Riggs of
Nappanee; step-son Nathan Wortinger of Seattle, Wash.; three granddaughters; two grandsons;
six step-grandsons; and one step-granddaughter.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 6 at the Thompson-Lengacher &
Yoder Funeral Home, 950 N. Main St., Nappanee.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 7 at Nappanee Church of the Brethren.
Burial will follow at Union Center cemetery.

Helen Johnston-Waller
PERU, Ind. — Helen Johnston-Waller, 70, of Peru, Ind., passed away peacefully at her home
surrounded by her children and her husband Jim at 2 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010 as a result of
an eight-month illness.
She was born in Volga, Iowa (Clayton County) Nov. 6, 1939 to Clement Curran and Leta
(Crandall) Curran and married James Waller April 21, 2001. Helen was a member of the St.
Charles Catholic Church, Peru.
She is survived by her husband James; children: Gregory (DeDe) Johnston of Terre Haute, Brian
(Dianne) Johnston and Cheryl (Brian) Huffine, all of Indianapolis, and Bradley (Jill) Johnston and
Karen (Rick) Johnston Giddings, all of Kennewick, Wash.; three step-daughters; a brother, Jerry
Curran of Dubuque, Iowa; sisters, Patricia Grace Kohnen of Dubuque, Iowa and Rita Gallahar of
Sumter, S.C.; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a sister, her first husband Gerald
Johnston, and her son Doug Johnston.
Mass will take place at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 6 with visitation from 12:30 p.m. until the time
of services, at St. Charles Catholic Church, Peru, with Rev. Francis Kilcline III officiating.
A second Mass will take place at a later date at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Spokane, Wash.
Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 W. Third St., Peru, was entrusted with arrangements.

AVONDALE, Ariz. — Charles “Chuck” F. McGee, 79, of Avondale, Ariz., formerly of Richland
Center, Ind., died at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Brighton Garden, Sun City, Ariz.
following a lengthy illness.
He is survived by a sister, Aletha (Richard) Ranstead of Argos; a niece and nephews; and many
great and great-great-nieces and nephews; and friend, James Ellison of Avondale, Ariz.
Visitation will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday March 5, 2010 at the Richland Center United
Methodist Church, Richland Center, Ind.
Funeral services will take place at 3 p.m. Friday at the church.
Burial will follow at Richland Center cemetery, Richland Center.

Bremen, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010 in Lakeland, Fla.
She is survived by daughters: Becky (Wayne) Mishler, Barb (Steve) Court and Bonny (Lynn)
Marshall, all of Bremen; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Frances Felus of
Hammond and Emily Smith of Mulberry, Fla.; and a brother, Rudy (Martha) Smith of Decatur,
Mich.
Visitation will take place from noon Sunday, March 21 until the time of services at Mishler
Funeral Home, 2030 S.R. 331, Bremen.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 21 at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Bremen cemetery.
