Sidney L. Glover, 71

WILLIAMSPORT -- Sidney L. "Sid" Glover, 71, of Williamsport, died at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, where he had been hospitalized since Aug. 30.

Born on July 20, 1934, in Attica, he graduated from Attica High School in 1952 and later attended the University of Arizona. He had been a resident of Williamsport since 1962.

He married Barbara R. Bowles on July 17, 1968, at the Hoopeston Presbyterian Church. She survives.

Mr. Glover and his father owned and operated R.L. Glover Oil Co., later known as Glover Oil, in Attica. He built and developed Indian Head Lake in 1971 and owned and operated until 1979. He also owned Big Pine Golf Course from 1975 to 1979. He retired from the Indiana Department of Transportation and then worked at Hubner Seed Co.

He was a past president of Williamsport Lions Club and a former member of Danville Tennis Club and Lafayette Elks Club. He enjoyed playing golf and tennis and traveling.

Surviving with his wife is a son, Sidney L. Glover II (wife: Susan) of Woodbridge, Va.

W. Opal Banta, 90

Wanda Opal Banta, 90, of Lafayette, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

Born on April 30, 1915, in Herron, Ill., she formerly lived in Vincennes. Her husband, Paul Banta died in 1954.

She had been employed for more than 25 years with Hamilton Glass Co. in Vincennes, where she was a laborer. She retired in 1980.

Mrs. Banta was a member of First Christian Church in Vincennes and a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include a daughter, Paula Bodart (husband: Larry) of Lafayette.

Visitation at Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home, 505 Main St., Vincennes from 12 p.m. until the service time at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, the Rev. Greg Smith of First Christian Church officiating. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery, Vincennes. A grandson, Dustin Bodart of Lafayette survives. Preceded in death by her parents, David and Ella Francis; a brother, Leonard Francis; a sister, Juanita Pinkstaff. If friends should so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Tippecanoe County Humane Society.

Melchior F. Frosch, 91

Melchior F. Frosch, 91, of Lafayette, died at 11:48 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at Rosewalk Village.

Born in Lafayette on Feb. 18, 1914, he graduated from Jefferson High School and was a lifelong resident.

He married Margaret Cox on May 14, 1938, in Lafayette, and she survives.

Mr. Frosch was a supervisor of food stores at Purdue University for 42 years before retiring.

He was a veteran of the Navy and a member of the Eagles and Moose lodges, Loomers Club and REAC. He enjoyed Purdue University sports, the Chicago Cubs and Bears and Jefferson High School basketball.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, James Frosch (wife: Elaine) of Culver and Michael Frosch of Studio City, Calif.; and a daughter, Shirley J. Dawson (husband: Steven) of Lafayette.

Friends may call 4-8 p.m. today, Sept. 23, 2005, at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Service at the funeral home at 12 p.m. Saturday, Father Dan Gartland officiating. Interment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Surviving are 3 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchidlren. Preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Elizabeth Niehus Frosch. Memorials to American Cancer Society.

Robert C. Helms, 63

MONTICELLO -- Robert C. Helms, 63, of Monticello, died at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2005, at his home.

Born Oct. 30, 1941, in Indianapolis, he had lived in the Monticello area since 1969, coming from Indianapolis. He was a graduate of Southport High School

He married Evelyn L. Hudson on May 26, 1962, in Indianapolis. She survives.

Mr. Helms was an Amtrak engineer, retiring in 2004 after 35 years.

He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen. A veteran of the Marine Corps, he served as a lance corporal.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Patti Cauble (husband: Greg) and Shelly Fishback (husband: Chad), both of Lafayette; and two sons, Bud Helms (wife: Tami) of Idaville and Mark Helms of Monticello.

Services are Sunday in Monticello. Miller-Roscka Funeral Home, Monticello.

Robert L. Kerby, 63

MONTICELLO -- Robert L. Kerby, 63, of 3734 E. County Road 425 N., died at 11:25 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at Home Hospital, Lafayette.

Born Oct. 5, 1941, in East Prairie, Mo., he had lived in the Monticello and Delphi areas since 1993, coming from Oregon. He also lived in Lafayette from 1956 to 1961.

Mr. Kerby retired in 1996. He was a laborer.

A veteran of the Vietname War, he served in the Army from March 23, 1966 to March 22, 1968, and received a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He enjoyed bowling, playing poker and yardwork.

Surviving are a daughter, Christie A Farrar (husband: Bill) of Attica; two sons, Brian S. Kerby (wife: Iris) of Monticello and Charles L. Reners (wife: Mary) of Rossville; and three sisters, Luella Tripp (husband: Clyde) of Pettit and Beatrice Tripp of East Prairie, Mo., and Barbara Ann Johnston of Corvallis, Ore.

Visitation 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Service in Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Monday, the Rev. Gary Miller officiating. Interment with military rites at Rest Haven Memorial Park. Surviving are 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and a good friend, Greg K. Harvey. Preceded in death by his parents, Zoad and Edith Jenkins Kerby; a son, Dale Kerby; and 2 sisters Memorials to American Cancer Society.

Lois J. Phelps, 62

Lois J. Phelps, 62, of West Lafayette, died at 1:40 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

Born Aug. 29, 1943, she had resided in Clearwater, Fla., before moving to West Lafayette 21/2 years ago.

She had recently worked as a telemarketer for several companies and formerly was a nursing assistant and waitress.

Ms. Phelps was a member of Colburn United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bingo, playing cards and flea markets.

Surviving are two sons, George E. Meece (wife: Trudi) and Bennie M. Meece (wife: Dana); two daughters, Marcia S. Heifner and Michelle L. Hippley; a brother, James B. Miller (wife: Betty) and a sister, Kathy Meeks (husband: Martin).

Arrangements are currently pending at Maus Funeral Home, Attica.

Jeanette L. Schroeder, 78

FOWLER -- Jeanette L. Schroeder, 78, of Fowler, died at 7:46 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, at Green Hill Manor Nursing Home, Fowler.

Born Sept. 29, 1926, she was a native of Goodland.

She married Robert B. Schroeder on Feb. 6, 1954, in Goodland. He died Sept. 12, 2000.

Mrs. Schroeder was a homemaker and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. Ann Society. She was an avid Purdue basketball fan and enjoyed playing dominos.

Surviving are four daughters, Pam Forgey (husband: Jim) of Raleigh, N.C., Cindy Whistler (husband: Ron) of Monticello, Laury Phillips (husband: Tracy) West Lafayette and Cathleen Cline (husband: Andy) West Lafayette; a son, Jeffrey A. Schroeder (wife: Vicki) of Indianapolis; three brothers, Robert Graham (wife: Joan) of Murrieta, Calif., Donald Graham of Chesterton, and Orville Ponto of Hammond; and five sisters, Helen Weller of Earl Park, Genevieve Hewett of Otterbein and Jeane Graham, Lois Graham and Delores Espinoza, all of Hemet, Calif.

Patricia Shoaf, 85

ATTICA -- Patricia "Pat" Harrison Shoaf, 85, formerly of Attica, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005, in her residence in St. Augustine, Fla.

Born June 7, 1920, in Indianapolis, she was raised in Attica and graduated from Attica High School in 1938. She attended Indiana University and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority.

Mrs. Shoaf spent most of her life in Attica, moving to Florida in 1997, and to St. Augustine in 2001.

During World War II, she worked in the office at Harrison Steel Castings Co.

She married Francis "Bus" Shoaf on July 17, 1945, in Attica. He survives and lives in St. Augustine.

A member of the Attica First United Methodist Church, she is a retired member of Kappa Kappa Kappa sorority in Attica.

Surviving with her husband are a daughter, Candy Shoaf of St. Augustine; one son, Jack Shoaf (wife: Janet) of Attica; and one brother, State Sen. Joseph William Harrison (wife: Ann) of Attica.

Arrangements are currently pending at Maus Funeral Home, Attica.
