Nancy Rose Cox
Plymouth -- Nancy Rose Cox, 77, of Plymouth, Ind., passed away at the Lifecare Center of
Rochester December 3rd, 2010 at 7:45 p.m. She had battled Alzheimer’s disease for the latter
part of her life.
Nancy was the daughter of Arthur and Eva Roach of Rockville, Ind. She was one of eight children.
On June 10, 1955, in Plymouth, Ind., Nancy met and married the love of her life and soul-mate,
Richard Cox. They were married 51 years before he preceded her in death. Together, Nancy
and Richard set a perfect example of a true loving relationship which was witnessed by their
family. They shared one daughter, Melody Sue Norton.
Nancy is survived by her daughter Melody and husband Nelson (Duke) Norton, Plymouth. Two
granddaughters and their families survive as well. They are Brooke E. and Brian S. Enyart of
Russiaville, Ind., and their children, Delaney and Brady: Micah M. and Ralph T. Robertson,
Plymouth, and their children, Gabreal, Gillian and Ashton.
Nancy worked 30 years for Wagner Wire (Essex) in Plymouth and also enjoyed spending time
with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took joy in seeing their happy faces and
would do most anything to bring happiness to their lives. She was a member of the Fitness
Forum and participated in the Silver Sneakers exercise program.
Although Nancy was not one to join clubs or be a leading member of a group, she always
supported everyone around her. She was always there to baby sit a grandchild, help bathe a
horse, work at the eat-shack at the 4-H fair, bake cookies and spoil great-grandchildren. When
asking the great-grandchildren what they remember about “Nanny”, they all agreed that when
they stayed with her, they always got their way (even if it meant eating chocolate cake for
breakfast). The youngest of the great-grandchildren was drawn to her first and before any other
grandparent. She was always ready to try something new with them even if it meant riding a
horse, zooming around the fields in a go-cart, picking up rocks or just playing outside.
When not with her grandchildren, Nancy loved to spend her spare time shopping, laying in the
sun and refinishing antiques. She couldn’t pass a shoe store or rack of purses without browsing
which is a fond memory shared by the women in her family.
Growing up during the depression, Nancy developed a deep sense of compassion and passed
this on as a life-lesson to her daughter, Melody. She never judged anyone by what they had or
what they wore. Instead, she helped the less fortunate.
As Nancy grew old with her disease, her personality changed. She became the entertainer at her
residence in Rochester. She was a little feisty at times but always ready to laugh and have a
good time.
Friends will be welcomed by the family to celebrate the life of Nancy Monday, December 6, 2010,
from 3 to 7p.m. at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Friends may also call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7.
