E. Berniece Berger
NAPPANEE — E. Berniece Berger, 90, of Nappanee, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1009 at LuAnn
Nursing Home at 8:30 a.m. after a short illness.
She is survived by four daughters: Ann (Kenneth) Heckaman of Nappanee, Lynn Whittenberger
of Matteson, Ill., Janice (James) Fackler of Syracuse and Margaret Bell of Matteson, Ill.; two
sons: Steven (Connie) Berger of Wallingford. Vt. and William Berger of Foraker; a brother,
Wendell Fisher of Nappanee; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009 at Thompson-Lencgacher & Yoder
Funeral Home, 950 N. Main St.
Funeral services will take place Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Nappanee United Methodist Church.
Burial will follow at South Union Center cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the LuAnn Nursing Home, Nappanee.

Thomas Allen Lehiy
PLYMOUTH — Thomas Allen Lehiy, 46, died, following a brief illness, at his residence on Upas
Road, Plymouth, at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009.
Only 46 years old, Tom lived his life to the fullest and will be deeply missed by his family and
friends.
Tom was born in Plymouth on Jan. 12, 1962, the son of Carl and Betty Sickmiller Lehiy. He
attended Plymouth High School and graduated with the class of 1981.
He enlisted in the United States Navy after graduation and remained on active duty until 1986.
He was a heavy equipment operator for Rock Industries for more than 20 years.
On Sept. 30, 2006, Tom and Karen Allen were married in Hamlet.
Tom loved to fish and bowl and was in a Sunday night bowling league. But mostly, Tom enjoyed
spending time with his family and friends.
He was a sports fan and spent many hours watching football and attending Plymouth Speedway.
He was a member of the V.F.W. and the United States Bowling Association.
Tom is survived by his wife and his mother, both of Plymouth, and by a son, Thomas Allen Lehiy,
Jr., in Pennsylvania; and a daughter, Hanna Marie Lehiy, of Plymouth.
A brother, Brian Lehiy and a sister, Patricia Hoover, both of Plymouth, also survive.
Tom was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Darla.
Friends are invited to share their memories of Tom with his family Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, from 3
to 7 p.m. and after 7 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home,
1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Tom will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, in the funeral home.
DeWayne Smith will officiate.
Military graveside honors will be accorded Tom at New Oakhill cemetery.

Patricia J. Dobrunst
BREMEN — Patricia J. Dobrunst, 67, of Bremen, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2009 at 2:36 a.m. at the Community Hospital of Bremen.
She is survived by two daughters: Kim (Dan) Miley of Osceola and Kristy (Greg) Williams of Bremen; a son, John Dobrunst of Bremen; seven grandchildren and a brother, Doug Stanifer of
Bremen.
Visitation will take place from noon until the time of services Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009 at Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 St. Rd. 331, Bremen.
Funeral services will take place Sunday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Bremen cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bremen Girls Softball League.

Norman L. Miller
Norman L. Miller, 80, died Jan. 2, 2008 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, Wis., surrounded
by his loving family. Norman was born in Argos on March 30, 1928 to Roy and Mojeska Miller.
He served in the United States Army from April 30, 1946 to June 25, 1952. He attended the
Army Security Agent School, served as a crypto-graphic repairman, and obtained the rank of
master sergeant. Norman proudly received a World War II victory medal, Occupation Medal
(Japan), Good Conduct Medal and Korean Service Medal with 5 bronze service stars.
After being discharged from the US Army he began his carrier at ATT as a network operations
supervisor for more than 25 years until his retirement. Norman enjoyed his retirement years at
his cottage on Little Platte Lake in Honor, Mich. He loved to fish, play Euchre and spend time
with his family and friends. Norman loved animals, especially the neighborhood dogs who visited
him on a regular basis.
He is survived by his four children: Miles (Jacquee) Miller of London, Ohio, Dana (Dan) Smetana
of Eau Claire, Wis., Kent (Shelly) Miller of Walworth, Wis., Ryan Miller of Minneapolis, Minn.
And his ex-wife and close friend Connie Miller of Eagan, Minn. He will also be missed by his
sister, Melba Jane Kreighbaum of Plymouth, and grandchildren: Heath (Shannon), Blake, Amy,
Jennifer, Tierney, Nick, Devin as well as four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant child Roy Miller. A private family service
will be held in January and a lakeside service will be held for family and close friends on May 16
in Honor, Mich.
Donations may be made to the Animal Welfare League of Benzie County P.O. Box 172
Frankfort, MI 49635.
Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel is serving the family.

Flossie "June" Garn-Sirus
SOUTH BEND — Flossie "June" Garn-Sirus, 73, of South Bend, Ind. Died Saturday, Jan 3, 2009
She is survived by her husband, William P. Sirus of South Bend; two sons: Billy G. Napier of Las
Vegas, Nev. And James G. (Barbara) Napier of Culver, Ind.; two daughters: Susan R. Napier of
Culver, Ind. And C. Beatrice (Alan) Wentzel of Kewanna, Ind.; four sisters:Sarah Behnke of
Culver, Mary Wolverton of Burr Oak, Ind., Wanda Miller of Plymouth, and Margaret Newland of
Coldwater, Mich.; 14 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren
Visitation will take place at Bonine-Odom Funeral Home Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will take place at the funeral home Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009 at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow at Burr Oak cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the family in her memory.
The Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, Culver, is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Geane Glentzer
ROCHESTER — Betty Geane Glentzer, 84, of E. 300 S., Rochester, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009
at 5:18 a.m. at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Plymouth.
She is survived by her husband, Roy Glentzer; four daughters: Patricia Quier of Rochester, Kitty
(Jim) Kelser of Rochester, Tracy S. Lewis of Rochester and Jackie (Bobby) Platz of Mishawaka;
a son, David Glentzer of Lacoohee, Fla.; two step-daughters: Loraine Hunter of Rochester and
Sue (Jeff) Miller of Hudson, Fla.; a sister, Melva Sanders of Rochester; five grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009 at the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W.
18th St. Rochester from 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services Thursday.
Funeral services will take place Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Athens-Hoover cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Breast Cancer Research of Indianapolis, the American Cancer
Association or the American Heart Association.

Cecil Milo Smith
PLYMOUTH - Cecil Milo Smith was with his children and their spouses when he passed away on
Jan. 3, 2009, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Plymouth. He was born to Ralph and Matilda Smith (both
deceased) in Plymouth on Nov. 20, 1922. Cecil was a veteran of WWII having served in Italy and
Africa. He married Yolanda Nyers on Dec. 30, 1950 (Yolanda passed away Sept. 7, 1990). Cecil
and Yolanda had four children: Marty (Jacqueline) Smith, Susie Smith, Pam (Doug) Edwards
and Sandy (Jim) Holderread. They also had eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
On July 20, 1996, Cecil married Donna Goss who survives along with four stepchildren: Betty
Uebelhor, Leo (Martha) Goss, Kathy (Kim) Masten and Sharon Reeves. He also had eight step grandchildren
and two step-great grandchildren.
Cecil had three sisters: Lucille (Ed) Klingerman (both deceased), Marceil (Ron) Dursky, Barbara
(Richard) Mynesberge and two brothers; Kermit Smith and Gordon (Donna) Smith (all
deceased). He also has numerous nieces and nephews.
Cecil was an avid fisherman and hunter in his younger days. He was a very creative person who
painted beautiful landscapes and sunsets; he also wrote excellent poetry. He and Donna shared
a passion for travel and enjoyed many wonderful cruises to exotic locations. Cecil had a great
love of music and was an amazing dancer and harmonica player.
A private family service will be held. Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home is in charge of the final
arrangements.

Patricia A. Korba
ARGOS — Patricia A. Korba, 81, of Argos, formerly of Peru, died at 12:01 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4,
2009 at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth. She was born Nov. 14, 1927 in Peru
to Milo and Kathryn (Wahlig) Gable. On Nov. 22, 1951, she married Joseph M. Korba, who
preceded her in death Feb. 16, 1996.
She had lived in Argos since 1996 coming from Peru. Patricia was formerly employed at the
Peru Foundry as a secretary. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, Peru,
Daughters of Isabella and Psi Iota Xi sorority.
She is survived by a daughter, Jan (Ted) Chittum of Bourbon; and grandsons: Tyler (Brandi)
Chittum of Greenfield and Zachary Chittum of Louisville.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and an infant daughter, Leesa Korba.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 W.
Third St., Peru. Funeral services are Thursday, Jan. 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church,
58 W. 5th St., Peru, with Rev. Francis Kilcline officiating. Burial will be at St. Charles cemetery,
Peru.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Catholic Social Services at South Bend.

Ashley Nichole Swope
Ashley Nicole Swope, 23, died Sunday, Jan. 4 2009 at the Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice
Center in Defiance, Ohio.
She is survived by her parents, Robert and Lisa Swope of Rochester and Judith Carr Parrott of
Defiance Ohio; son, Brandon Lee Swope; brothers: John Swope of Rochester, Robert Bruder of
Indianapolis and Chase Swope of Defiance, Ohio; great-grandmother, Alice Swope;
grandmothers: Floanna Swope and Beverly Jennings; and grandfather, Louis Pfeiffer, all of Rochester.
Funeral services are Friday, Jan. 9 at 11 a.m. at the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th
St., Rochester. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m.Thursday, Jan. 8 and an hour prior to services.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Junior/Senior High Youth Group,
Rochester, Community Health Professionals, Defiance, Ohio or the Brandon Swope Education
Fund, in care of Teachers Credit Union, Rochester.

Henry Carl Buller
BREMEN — Henry Carl Buller, 88, of Bremen, died at 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 at home.
He is survived by a son, Marlowe Jay Buller of Beloit, Wis.; daughters: Marlene Joy (Stan)
Gingerich of Goshen and Marva Jean (Marvin) Miller of Argos; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren;
brother, Melvin C. Buller of Asheville, N.C.; and sister, Adeline Ost of Glendive, Mont.
Visitation is Thursday, Jan. 8 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Nappanee Missionary Church
and one hour prior to services Friday. Funeral services are Friday, Jan. 9 at 10:30 a.m. at the
church. Burial will be at West Goshen cemetery, Goshen.
Memorials may be made to Marshall County Hospice.
Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, is in charge of the arrangements.

Jay A. Trowbridge
BOURBON — Jay A. Trowbridge, 70, a resident of 8150 S.R. 331, Bourbon, passed away
unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 at 8:10 a.m. at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center,
Plymouth.
Jay was born the son of Judah Trowbridge and Dorothy Ford Trowbridge on April 21, 1938 in
Plymouth. He was a lifelong resident of the Bourbon area. He was a retired farmer. He worked
for Wal-Mart of Warsaw and was a school bus driver for Triton School Corporation, Bus #9. He
loved fishing, traveling, livestock auctions and livestock shows. Jay was a 1956 graduate of
Bourbon High School and a member of The Country Church.
Jay was joined in marriage July 19, 1959 to Janet Hall, who survives. He is also survived by his
two daughters: Lori Cox and friend Roger Zentz of Argos, Jill (Pete) Thompson of Bourbon; son,
Mel Trowbridge of Bourbon; grandchildren: Kelsey Cox and Lori Ann (Ben) Mathew; two great grandchildren:
Carson and Connor Mathew; sister, Jane (Don) Kuhn of Etna Green; and motherin-law,
Thelma Hall of Bourbon.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Jay’s life will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9 in The Country Church, S.R. 331,
Bourbon, with Pastor David Gould officiating.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8 in the church and for one hour
before services Friday.
Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill cemetery, Bourbon.
Memorial contributions can be made to The Country Church Missions Fund in his memory.
Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, Bourbon, is in charge of local arrangements.
