BREMEN — Roger R. Patterson, 63, of Bremen, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009 at 12:13 a.m. at
Community Hospital of Bremen.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Patterson of Bremen; son, William (fiancée Sarah Bailey)
Patterson of Bremen; stepson, Richard (Lisa) Moren of Bremen; stepdaughters: Susan (Jason)
Bass of Shelbyville and Dena Baker; four step-granddaughters; brothers: William (Pat) Patterson
of Mishawaka and Robert “Bob” (Leslie) Patterson of Largo; sisters: Marilyn Klann of New
Buffalo, Mich., Eleanor (Ed) Gammill of South Bend, twin sister Rita (Charles) Hyde of Etna
Green and Carol Bennett of Bremen; and sister-in-law, Barb Patterson of Bourbon.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 at the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen. Burial
will be at the Bremen cemetery with graveside military honors. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday, Jan. 21 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marshall County Humane Society.

Ula Cole
ROCHESTER — Ula Cole, 88, of Rochester, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009 at 6:15 a.m. at Life
Care Center, Rochester.
Ula was born March, 24, 1920 to Noah and Maude (Coffee) Rudd in Salyersville, Ky. She
married Homer Cole March 29, 1935 in Salyersville and came to Marshall County from West
Liberty, Ky.
He was a homemaker and lived in Marshall County for 38 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Homer in 1980; three sons: J.H. Cole, Kenneth
Wayne Cole and Randall Keith Cole; three daughters: Sondra Cole, Leatress Penix and Joyce
McGee; five brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by four sons: Darrel W. Cole of Lebanon, Ind., Ron (Doris) Cole of Lebanon,
Larry (Virginia) Cole of Albuquerque, N.M. and Phillip (Lori) Cole of Lakeville; two daughters:
Sue (Willie) Castle of Argos and Medrith (Jerry) Lard of Argos; 18 grandchildren; many great grandchildren,
numerous nieces and nephews; four sisters: Pauline (Sterling) Taylor of
Stockbridge, Mich., Edna Penix of Salyersville, Ky., Augustine Castle of Flat Gap Ky. And
Barbara (Bert) Daniels of Salyersville and two brothers: Hurndon Rudd of Rochester and E.J.
(Mary Ellis) Rudd of Salyersville, Ky.
Visitation will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009 at Earl-Grossman Funeral
Home, 208 N. Michigan St. Argos and at Magoffin County Funeral Home, Salyersville, Ky.
Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will take place at Magoffin Funeral Home Friday, Jan. 23 at 10 a.m. and burial
will follow at the Rudd Family cemetery in Salyersville, Ky.
Earl-Grossman Funeral Home of Argos, Ind. Is in charge of arangements.

Velma I. Merrill
BREMEN — Velma I. Merrill, 81, of Bremen, died at 1:25 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009 at her
home. Mrs. Merrill was born on Sept. 26, 1927 in Bremen to the late Willard and Mabel
(Smeltzer) Sauer. She has been a lifelong resident. On March 25, 1944 in Woodland, she
married Kenneth O. Merrill, who preceded in death on Aug. 4, 1993. Four sisters and two
brothers also preceded in death: Carolyn Sanders, Mary Gerhart, Lois Miller, Alma Jean Battles,
Vernon Sauer and Floyd Sauer. Mrs. Merrill retired in 1993 after 25 years of employment with
Wheelhorse.
Mrs. Merrill is survived by two daughters: Dixie Kertai Howell of Bremen and Donna Cormican
(Keith) Roush of Lakeville; one son, Kenneth O. (Dawn Erdelyi) Merrill Jr. of Bremen; 11
grandchildren: Emery Kertai, Wade (Tracy) Kertai, Brad (Danielle) Kertai, Shawn (Tracie) Kertai,
Michelle Merrill, Eric Merrill, Glenn Cormican, Denny Cormican, Valarie (Eric) Smith, Keenan
Roush and Kent Roush; 25 great-grandchildren; six sisters: Alice Platz of Bremen, Joyce Gaines
of Lakeville, Maxine Harter of Bremen, Catherine Bellew of Louisville, Ky., Arlene Jacobs of
Mishawaka and Jane Sauer of Kuwait; and two brothers: Robert Sauer and Dale Sauer, both of
Lakeville.
Mrs. Merrill loved the outdoors and nature. She enjoyed birds, flowers, and gardening. She was
considerably active and a stong-willed person that tried to do everything herself even at 81 years
old. She thought the world of all of her family, especially her great-grandchildren. She will be
missed.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009 at the Palmer Funeral Home,
314 S. Michigan St., Lakeville. Pastor Darrell Hale will officiate. Graveside services and burial
will follow at Bremen cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 3 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday
at the Palmer Funeral Home-Lakeville.

31 South, Lakeville, IN 46536.

Mildred “Millie” Louise Nesbit
ROCHESTER — Mildred “Millie” Louise Nesbit, 79, of Rochester, died at 10:38 a.m. Sunday,
Jan. 18, 2009 at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Indianapolis.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Nesbit; daughter, Linda Schmitt of Rochester; sons:
Dennis Nesbit and companion Carmie Bickham of Rochester, Michael (Julia) Nesbit of
Rochester and Jeffery Nesbit of Ft. Ogden, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren;
sisters: Lucille Dowers of Kokomo, Kathryn Thomas of Kokomo, Edna (Dave) Roberts of
Kokomo, Helen Wrathall of Jupiter, Fla., Lola (Paul) Kikta of Port Orange, Fla. And Dorothy
Hinkle of Port Orange, Fla.; and brothers: William (Annie) Jameson of Greentown, James T.
(Lois) Jameson of Londen, Tenn.and Roy (Joyce) Jameson of Kokomo.
Funeral services are Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. at the Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester,
with visitation from 12 to 2 p.m. Burial will be at Russiaville cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hope Hospice of Fulton County.

Harold D. Schlemmer
BREMEN — Harold D. Schlemmer, 73, of Bremen, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009 at the Bremen
Health Care Center.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Schlemmer of Bremen; son, Mike (Barb) Gouker of Plymouth;
daughters: Cindy (Dave) Leavell of Plymouth, Pam Gouker of Plymouth, Betsy Gouker Paul of
Houston, Texas; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brothers: Nelson
Schlemmer of Mishawaka, Stanley (Mary) of North Liberty, Wayne (Naomi) Schlemmer of South Bend.
Services will be held Thursday, Jan. 22, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bremen.
Burial will take place at New Oak Hill cemetery, Plymouth. Visitation is Wednesday, Jan. 21
from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice or to Bremen Health Care Center

Harley Antone Jestus
ARGOS – Harley Antone Justus, 86, of 17B Road, Argos died in his home under the loving care
of his family and Hospice at 1:20 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2009.
Harley was born Sept. 6, 1922 in Switz City to Cecil Justus Sr. and Cressie A. (Fines) Justus. On
May 20, 1946 in Linton, he married R. Eleanor Richardson, who survives.
He graduated from Switz City High School in 1940 and Purdue University in 1954. Harley moved
to the Argos community in 1964 coming from Wabash. He was a school teacher for a number of
years at Switz City, Odon and Montpelier before joining the REMC. He retired as manager of the
Marshall County REMC in 1988 after 24 years of service.
He served his country as a sergeant in the U.S Army during WWII receiving an honorable
discharge. He was a former member of Maxinkukee IOOF, Culver and attended the Sunrise
Chapel of Plymouth.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; three daughters: Marsha Davis of Plymouth, Judith C. Justus
of Argos and Lea Ann (Tom Sr.) Chamberlin of Plymouth; six grandchildren: Ronda (Doug)
Calhoun of Argos, Craig Davis of Argos, Sara (Jason) Hill of Tippecanoe, Rachel Chamberlin of
Plymouth, Meredith (Steve) Fick of Plymouth and Tom (Jennifer) Chamberlin of Colorado; seven
great-grandchildren: Adam Calhoun, Kari Davis, Ryan Calhoun, Anela Hill, Corey Hill, Addison
Fick and Emma Fick; two brothers: Willis D. (Mary Jane) Justus of Mooresville and Cecil
(Norma) Justus Jr. of Scottsburg; and sister, Laura M. Fulk of Worthington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Janet Henico.
Friends may visit with the family Thursday, Jan. 22 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the EarlGrossman
Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan Street, Argos, and one hour prior to the service.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23 at the Sunrise Chapel in Plymouth with Rev.
Rustin Krapfl officiating.
Burial will be at Maple Grove cemetery, Argos.
Memorial contributions in Harley’s memory may be made to The Center for Hospice and
Palliative Care Plymouth, Indiana 46563.
Arrangements have been entrusted with the Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, Argos.

Delorse Ann Faith
MONTEREY — Delorse Ann Faith, 67, of Monterey, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009 at home.
She is survived by brothers: Jasper Tolson of Toto and Ernie Branham of Texas; and sisters:
Leatha Faly Tolson of Florida, Irene Branham of Plymouth, Flossie Kreischer of Monterey, Mary
Lou Minix of Clay City, Ky., Patty Ayers of North Judson and LaVern Markum of Texas.
Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 24 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Knox VFW.
Braman & Son Memorial Chapel, Knox, is in charge of the arrangements.

Sheila M. Fites-Kelley
A celebration of life service for Sheila M. Fites-Kelley, Bourbon, and Sarasota, Fla. will be held in
the Etna Green Church of Christ, 204 W. Broadway, Etna Green Sunday, May 3 at 2 p.m. with
Rev. Dr. Ron Kelley, Sheila's husband, officiating. She died Jan 20 in Sarasota and is the
daughter of Pauline Fites of Bourbon. Mrs. Fites-Kelley graduated in 1961 from Tippecanoe High
School. Burial will be in Summit Chapel cemetery.

Frank Joseph Barracca
PLYMOUTH — Frank Joseph Barracca, 56, of Plymouth, formerly of Chicago, Ill., died
Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009 in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center.
He is survived by a stepdaughter, Heather Jarm; four grandchildren; sister, Ida (Bill) Barr of
Chicago, Ill.; brothers: James M. (Rita C.) Barracca of Hanover Park, Ill. And Joseph Barracca of
Benson, Ariz.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation.
Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services are handling the
arrangements.

Russell Bope
Russell Bope, 71, of Lake of the Woods, Bremen, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at his
residence.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly of Lake of the Woods, Bremen; sons: Keith Bope of North
Liberty and Rex (Carmen) Bope of South Bend; daughters: Cheryl (Rod) Davis of Lakeville,
Monica (Greg) Payne of North Liberty, Tracey Bope of Mishawaka and Ruby Roxanne Bope of
North Liberty; stepson: Curtis (Cathy) Whitehead of Wisconsin; stepdaughter, Sherri (Jay)
Conrad of Wakarusa; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and brothers: Chuck and Jerry Bope.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1 at the Bremen cemetery Chapel. Burial will
take place at the Bremen cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Marshall County, 112 S. Center St. # C, Plymouth, IN
46506 or to the LaPaz American Legion #357 Christmas Basket Fund, c/o 100 Randolph St.,
LaPaz, IN 46537.
Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen, is in charge of the arrangements.

Phyllis Ann Norman
ROCHESTER — Phyllis Ann Norman, 73, of Rochester, died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21,
2009 at Our Lady of Peace, Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend.
She is survived by her husband, Roy Norman; daughters: Linda Andrews of Rochester and
Debbie (Tim) Montel of Rochester; sons: Richard (Bonnie) Norman of Rochester and Tim
(Robin) Norman of Jamestown, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brothers:
Jerry (Sue) Blanchard of Rochester, Bobby (Nancy) VanLue of Rochester and Larry VanLue of Macy.
Visitation is Friday, Jan. 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester, and
one hour prior to services Saturday. Funeral services are Saturday, Jan. 24 at 10 a.m. at the
funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the First Church of God.

Lester Richard Wentzel
CULVER — Lester Richard Wentzel, 87, of Culver, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009 in Culver.
Lester was born March 17, 1921 to Peter and Amanda Wentzel in Leiters Ford. He graduated
from Aubbeenaubbee High School and proudly served his country in World War II. He married
the love of his life, OrfaJean Ruth Eskridge on Feb. 26, 1949 in Knox.
He worked 40 years at McCord Corporation in Plymouth, and retired in 1986.
Lester was an avid Chicago Cubs fan who for many years every Fourth of July took his family to
a double header at Wrigley Field.
Lester is survived by his wife, OrfaJean; daughter, Patricia (Jim) Krou of Colorado; son,
Jonathan (Jane) Wentzel of Plymouth; grandchildren: Lori Krou of Colorado, Jeremy (Stephanie)
Wentzel of Plymouth, and Michael (Valerie) Berger Jr. of Plymouth; four great-grandchildren:
Axton, Guage, Evalynn, and Peyton; sisters: Betty Weller and Mary Wentzel of Rochester; and
brother, Harold Wentzel of Plymouth.
Lester was preceded in death by son, David; sister, Vivian Wentzel; and brother, Colvert Wentzel.
Services will be Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. at Bonine-Odom Funeral Home in Culver, with
visitation Friday, Jan. 23 from 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Memorials may be given to the Bible Baptist Church in Knox.
The Bonine-Odom Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
