Vera Vargo
PLYMOUTH — Vera Vargo, 95, of 222 Parkview St., Plymouth, passed away Saturday, April 4,
2009, at 1:40 p.m., at Pilgrim Manor Nursing, Plymouth.
Vera was born on Nov. 10, 1913, in Saint Joseph County, Ind., to Joseph and Theresa (Popp)
Vargo. She was a member of Saint Michael Catholic Church of Plymouth.
Vera moved from North Liberty, Indiana (Potato Creek) to Plymouth in 1970. She worked on the
family farm and also worked in an attorney’s office in Plymouth. Vera loved her church and
volunteered doing many things, including stuffing inserts into the newspapers at the Pilot News.
Vera had her pilot’s license, wrote poetry, and was an animal lover.
Vera is survived by her caregiver, Carolyn Chapman and family. She was preceded in death by
her brother and sisters.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the VAN GILDER FUNERAL
HOME, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, IN, 46563.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at 10:30 a.m., at Saint Michael
Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father William Kummer officiating.
Burial will be in Highland cemetery, South Bend.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Marshall County Humane Society, Post Office Box
#22, Plymouth, IN, 46563.

Virginia M. Abair
PLYMOUTH – Virginia M. Abair, 82, of 10309 8A Rd., Plymouth, died at 2:33 a.m. Monday, April
6, 2009, at home, surrounded by her family after a brief illness.
Born on Sept. 8, 1926 in Plymouth, Virginia was the daughter of Harrison Russell and Lucile
Marie (Price) Harner.
She had attended the Old Muncie School at Bremen, and other various schools in Marshall County.
On May 13, 1944, in Argos, she married her loving lifelong companion, Chester Leroy Abair.
Together they had five sons and two daughters. Chester preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 1999.
Virginia, whose favorite motto was “One day at a time, sweet Jesus”, was a homemaker and a
master of all trades. She loved to fish and camp in Southern Indiana and Wisconsin. A lady who
never had idle hands, she enjoyed all kinds of crafts, including: crocheting, knitting, sewing,
quilting, cooking, working in her garden and canning the fruits of her labor.
She was a member of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church for over 40 years, where she enjoyed
putting up decorations at Christmas time.
Virginia’s proudest achievement was the raising of her and Chester’s children: DeVere (Judy)
Abair of Plymouth, Judith (Steve) Hessler of Richland, Garry (Barbara) Abair of Newnan, Ga.,
Alan Abair of Plymouth, Roger Abair of Wedowee, Ala. And Jacqueline (Les) Trump of Plymouth.
She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and her family is still growing.
Two sisters: Viola Capron and Phyllis (Michael) Corbridge, both of Bremen and a brother,
Russell L. Harner of Bremen, also survive.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, a son: Larry Abair, three
brothers: Robert, John and William Harner; and a sister: Evelyn Litchfield.
Friends may pay their respects at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St.,
Plymouth, from 3 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009.
Funeral services will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 11 a.m., with
the Rev. John Perkinson, pastor of the Shiloh Wesleyan Church, officiating.
Burial will be in New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
Preferred memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.

Frances B. Atkinson
LEESBURG — Frances B. Atkinson, 73, of 4990 N. 175 E. Leesburg, died Monday, April 6,
2009 at 10:15 p.m. at her residence. She was born Nov. 4, 1935 in Marshall County to Frank
and Mary (Cunningham) Bagley.
She was a Kosciusko County resident since 1966. She was united in marriage to Robert C.
"Bob" Atkinson in Plymouth on Dec. 19, 1954. Robert preceded her in death on June 9, 1997.
Frances was employed as shipping manager for Sea Nymph Corporation of Syracuse for 12
years. She was also a former administrative assistant for the Dalton Foundries of Warsaw, and
GTI Ditronics of Leesburg.
Frances is survived by her loving family including her son, Mike Atkinson of Leesburg; sister,
Jean Horvath of Detroit, Mich.; two brothers: Harold “Hattie” (Bonnie) Bagley of Bremen and
Terry (Sarah) Bagley of Plymouth.
In addition to her husband Robert, Frances was preceded by a brother, David Bagley.
Private services will be held. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 10 at McHatton-Sadler
Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw. Burial will be private.

Warsaw, IN 46581-1196.

Dolly A. Bonnell
PLYMOUTH — Dolly A. Bonnell, 86, of Plymouth, died Monday, April 6, 2009 at home.
She is survived by daughter, Patricia (Gary) Rogers of Rochester; son, Steven (Linda) Bonnell of
Brandon, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Rita Bonnell of Logansport; sister, Martha Schmidt of Lake of the
Hills, Ill.; and brother, Major Nitzschke of North Manchester.
Family services will be held. Burial will be at New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Roger E. Chapman
MONTEREY — Roger E. Chapman, 57, of Monterey, died Monday, April 6, 2009 at Starke
Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Chapman of Monterey; sons: Justin Chapman of Winamac and
Jason Chapman of Monterey; eight grandchildren; and sisters: Connie Parker of Knox and
Phyllis Hornbeck of Hanover.
Visitation is Wednesday, April 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel, Knox.
Services are Thursday, April 9 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Crown Hill
cemetery, Knox.

Heather Mangun
BREMEN — Heather Mangun, 37, of Bremen, died Monday, April 6, 2009 in Bremen.
She is survived by her mother, Cheryl Chrzan of Bremen; daughter, Erin Mangun at home; son,
Michael Mangun at home; one granddaughter on the way; sisters: Ariel and Cassandra Chrzan
at home; and grandparents: Casimir and Jo Ann Chrzan of Bremen and John and Elsie Fletcher
of Indianapolis.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 10 at 10 a.m. at the Bremen VFW. Memorials may be
made to the family to use toward the funeral service.
The Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Louise June Manuel
Louise June Manuel, 78, a resident of Mason Health Care Facility of Warsaw, formerly of
Bourbon, died Monday, April 6, 2009 at 11:15 a.m.
She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia (Larry) Harman of Elkhart; son; Randall (Karen) Manuel
of Warsaw; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Barb Nine of Warsaw; and
brother, David (Pat Davis) of Napa, Calif.
Funeral services are at 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 10 in the Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S.
Main St. Bourbon. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will follow in
the Etna Green cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to Bourbon Emergency Medical Services.

Theodore “Ted” Lawrence Prescott
NAPPANEE — Theodore “Ted” Lawrence Prescott, 73, of Nappanee, died at 5:37 a.m. Monday,
April 6, 2009 at Community Hospital of Bremen.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma; son, Mark Allen Prescott of Goshen; daughter, Donna Lee
Prescott of Nappanee; one granddaughter; and sister, Phyllis Wright of Plymouth.
Visitation is Wednesday, April 8 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder
Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to the services Thursday. Funeral services are
Thursday, April 9 at 2:30 p.m. at the Wakarusa Missionary Church. Burial will be in South Union
cemetery, Nappanee.
Memorials may be made to World Missionary Press.

Ray C. Houghton
CULVER — Ray C. Houghton, 70, of Culver, passed away peacefully at 6:43 a.m. April 8, 2009
at Miller’s Merry Manor in Culver.
Ray was born to Lester Houghton and Eva Triplet on June 25, 1938 in Rochester. He was a
graduate of Culver Community High School. After graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United
States Army as a member of the 101st Airborn Screaming Eagles, serving between the Korean
and Vietnam conflicts. After being discharged Ray fell in love and was married on Sept. 13, 1959
at Mt. Vernon, Ind. To Norma E. Kuebler. Together they had two children.
Ray worked for the Culver Military Academies in the Grounds Maintenance department for 15
years. He loved hunting and fishing. Ray was a longtime member of the Collins-Tasch American
Legion Post 399 in Monterey and a member of the James F. Talbott VFW Post 1121 in Kewanna.
Ray is survived by his wife, Norma Houghton of Culver; son, Lee (Karen) Houghton of Culver;
daughter, Lori (Jr.) Hines of Grovertown; granddaughters: Rainbow & Taylor Hines of
Grovertown; four sisters; eight step-grandchildren; and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Houghton; mother, Eva Houghton; grandson,
Kenneth Lee Hack III; and one brother.
A time of sharing memories with Ray’s family will be held at the Bonine-Odom Funeral Home
Friday, April 10, 2009 from 5 to 9 p.m. EDT. Rev. Larry Saunders will officiate the service which
will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Wesley United Methodist Church, Culver.
Interment will follow at the Culver Masonic cemetery in Culver.
Memorials may be given to the Wesley United Methodist Church or Miller’s Merry Manor in Culver.
The Bonine-Odom Funeral Home in Culver is in charge of arrangements.

Lillian Loretta Howard Kieszkowski
MICHIGAN CITY — Lillian Loretta Howard Kieszkowski, 67, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009 in
Methodist Hospital, Merrillville.
Surviving are two daughters: Jennifer (Dennis) Salyer of Knox and Yvonne (Michael)
Kieszkowski of North Judson; one stepdaughter, Monica Tubbs of Canton, N.C.; four sons:
Timothy (Donna) Campbell of Celestine, Thomas Campbell of Crestwood, Ky., Dennis Campbell
of Shoals and Herman Darrell (Sue) Campbell of French Lick; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren;
three sisters: Barbara (Freeman) Back of Jackson, Ky., Phyllis (Arnold) Noble of
Winchester, Ky. And Susan Joseph of Lambric, Ky.; and three brothers: Otta Joe (Lola) Howard
of Knox, Lloyd (Phyllis) Howard of Argos and Harold (Nannie) Howard of Jackson, Ky.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 13 at 8 p.m. (CDT) at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet
Chapel. Visitation is Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. CDT at the funeral home.

Jared A. Seese
AMLET — Jared A. Seese, 18, died Wednesday, April 8, 2009 in Memorial Hospital, South Bend
He is survived by his parents, Jon and Joyce (Winkler) Seese; sister, Jennifer (Joe) Morrison of
Mishawaka; grandparents, Jean (Richard) Winkler of Grovertown; and nephew, Christopher
Morrison.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 13 at 11 a.m. (CDT) at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet
Chapel. Visitation is Sunday, April 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. and Monday one hour before services at
the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Indiana Organ Procurement Organization.

Lana C. Berger
AURORA, Colo. — Lana Cheryl Berger, 64, died at her home in Aurora, Colo. April 9, 2009.
She is survived by her brother, Robert L. (Jackye) Berger; and her sisters: Jeanette (Paul)
LaMar and Loretta (Jim) Yagelski; as well as nine nieces and nephews and 10 great-nieces and
great-nephews.
Visitation was held in Aurora, Colo. At Newcomer Funeral Home on April 15, 2009.
A memorial gathering will be held in Culver Saturday, June 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Wesley
United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

Ralph W. Neff
CULVER — Ralph W. Neff, 78, of Culver, died Thursday, April 9, 2009 at Elkhart Hospice
House, Elkhart, Ind. at 8:45 a.m.
He is survived by three sons: Ken Neff of Culver, Dean Neff of Winamac and Steve Neff of
Indianapolis; three brothers: Daniel Neff of Florida, and Jim Neff and Julian Neff, both of
Logansport; five sisters, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place Monday, April 13, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bonine-Odom Funeral
Home, Culver.
Funeral services will take place Tuesday, April 14, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Culver Masonic cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Finney-Shilling VFW Post 6919 Culver or Center for Hospice and
Palliative Care.
