NAPPANEE — Billy Eugene Slabaugh, 66, of Nappanee, died at 11:46 p.m. Wednesday, June
17, 2009 at Elkhart General Hospital.
He is survived by his mother, Lois Slabaugh of Nappanee; sister, Kim (David) Ingle of
Nappanee; and brothers: Jody Slabaugh and Mikel Slabaugh, both of Nappanee.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Thompson-Lengacher &
Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee. Services are Sunday at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation
will take place. Inurnment will be in South Union cemetery.
Memorials may be made to United Cancer Services of Elkhart County.

Emma Nicole Smith
ELKHART — Emma Nicole Smith, 2 months, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Elkhart General Hospital.
She is survived by her parents, Jeremy and Amber Smith of Elkhart; a sister, Elyzabeth Anne
Smith of Elkhart; paternal grandparents; Jeff (Kristen) Smith and Deborah Beggs, all of Elkhart;
and maternal grandparents, Rhonda (Mike) McBrier of Bristol, Ind. and Gilbert Golden Jr. of
Prattville, Ala.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 22, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776
McKinley Highway, Osceola.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

Edwin W., DVM Jenney
PLYMOUTH — Dr. Edwin W. Jenney, DVM, 89, of Plymouth, died Thursday, June 18, 2009 at
Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth.
He is survived by his wife, Iris Jenney of Plymouth; sons: Edwin W. Jenney Jr. of Coldwater,
Mich. And James Allen (Cindy) Jenney of Argos; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation is Saturday, June 20 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home,
Plymouth. Funeral services are Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at New
Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
Memorials may be made to the Gideons International.

Dave E. Kiefer
MILFORD — Dave E. Kiefer, 61, of Milford, died Thursday, June 18, 2009 at home.
He is survived by his wife, Kathie of Milford; son, David Jr. (Laura) Kiefer of Milford; daughter,
Rachel (Steve) Schmidt of Warsaw; six grandchildren; two brothers: George (Joy) Kiefer of
North Carolina and Fred (Judy) Kiefer of Bremen and sister, Deb Wise of Bremen.
Visitation is Monday, June 22 from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Nappanee Missionary Church,
and one hour prior to the service Tuesday, June 23 at 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at the
Bremen cemetery, with military honors.
Memorials may be made to Toys for Tots.
The Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home in Milford is assisting the family.

Dorothy Lorraine McGowen
BREMEN — Dorothy Lorraine McGowen, 90, of Bremen died Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the
Bremen Health Care Center.
She is survived by her husband, Norman McGowen of Bremen; two sons: Michael (Connie)
McGowen of Wakarusa and David (Kathy) McGowen of Bremen; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren;
and one sister, Delorres “Dee” (Gerald) Kiefer of Bremen.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in
Bremen. Burial will follow at the Bremen cemetery. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June
22, 2009 at the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen.
Memorials contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in Bremen or Alzheimer’s
Association.

Edward D. Haines
PLYMOUTH — Edward D. Haines, 79, passed away Friday, June 19, 2009 in Elkhart Hospice House.
Mr. Haines was born July 16, 1929 in Donaldson to Alvin and Nora (Pike) Haines and lived in the
area all of his life.
On Sept. 12, 1952 in Plymouth, he was married to the former Beverly Arbuckle, who preceded
him in death.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Keith; one great-granddaughter; one brother
and one sister.
Survivors include one daughter, Deborah (Gordon) Longanecker of Plymouth; two sons,
Kenneth (Helen) Haines of Plymouth and Kurt (Lauren) Haines of Indianapolis; 13 grandchildren;
17 great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Jean Diangikis and Helen Ayres, both of Plymouth and
Betty Younger of Crown Point.
Mr. Haines was a U.S. Army veteran and a former employee of Harry R. Franklin Salvage.
Friends may call Tuesday, June 23, from noon (EDT) until the time of services at Rannells
Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. (Eastern Time)at the chapel.
Burial will be at the Grovertown cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc.

Betty Lou (Stutzman) Yoder
NAPPANEE — Betty Lou (Stutzman) Yoder, 77, of Nappanee, died Friday, June 19, 2009 at
10:21 a.m. at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
She is survived by her husband, Lewis Yoder; daughter, Melissa Stanton of Elkhart; sons: Philip
(Trish) Johnson of Midlothian, Ill. And Timothy (Pam) Kolacz of Evansville; a step-son, Kent
(Linda) Yoder of Traveler's Rest, S.C.; a step-daughter, Karen (Peter) Wingrove of Wexford,
Penn.; 21 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Lucille Masterson of The Villages,
Fla. And Sally (Dean) Guard of Nappanee; three brothers: Eugene (Jean) Stutzman of North
Webster, William (Carol) Stutzman of Rolling Meadows, Ill. And Gary (Terry) Stutzman of
Charlotte, N.C.
Visitation will take place Sunday, June 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Nappanee United Methodist
Church, 300 E. Market St. Nappanee.
Funeral services will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Assoc. of Nappanee United Methodist Church.
Thompson-Lengcaher & Yoder Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary R. Bedics
TIPPECANOE — Mary R. Bedics, 45, of 17B Road, Tippecanoe, died at 6:28 a.m. Saturday
June 20, at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, Joey J. Bedics, Tippecanoe; daughter, Amber Rose Koebcke,
Rochester; sons: Mitchell Alan Howard of Rochester, Kyle Bedics of Kokomo; three
grandchildren; mother, Karen Turner of Rochester; father, Dan Shafer of Rochester; brother,
William Arthur (Samantha) Shafer of Brownsburg; father and mother-in-law, Paul and Diana
Bedics of Tippecanoe; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home,
Rochester.
Funeral services will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Internment will take place at a later date at Odd Fellows cemetery, Rochester.
Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Hospital for Children, Indianapolis.

Laura June (Berger) Kleinke
LAPAZ — Laura June (Berger) Kleinke, 81, passed away June 20, 2009.
She was born in LaPaz and was married to Frank Kleinke for 63 years. He survives and was
Marshall County Surveyor and county councilman for 36 years.
They resided in Plymouth and Avon Park, Fla. They moved to Arizona a year ago.
Mother to four children: Ken (Cheryl) of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Greg (Mary Ellen) of Georgetown, Ind.;
Ann Sherrick of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; and Sue Meyne (Rob) of Plano, Texas. She has six
grandchildren and four great grandsons.
Laura was a beloved wife and “stay-at-home” mom. She was active in the Republican party,
Delta Theta Tau Sorority and a number of charitable organizations. She enjoyed golfing, playing
Bridge, singing and watching Indiana basketball.
Preceding her in death are her parents Jennie and Elmer Berger, brothers: Noble Berger (and
his wife Ruth), Cletus Berger, Wayne Berger; a sister, Vera Kinzie (and her husband Fred).
Services will be held Tuesday, June 23 at 9 a.m., (noon Eastern Standard Time) at Messenger
Mortuary, Scottsdale, Ariz.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Eckstein Hospice Center at 9494 E.
Becker Lane, Scottsdale, AZ 85260 and Muscular Dystrophy/Parent Project.

Tina M. Pike Williams
NORTH JUDSON — Tina M. Pike Williams, 45, of North Judson, died Saturday, June 20, 2009.
She is survived by her father, Roger Pike of Monterey; and brothers: Dale Pike of North Judson,
Anthony Pike of Sparta, Tenn. And Brian Pike of Hamlet.
Visitation is Thursday, June 25 from 3 to 7 p.m. at M.C. Smith Funeral Home, Knox. Funeral
services are at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A private interment will take place at a later
date at Crown Hill cemetery.

Marguerite E. Zechiel
CULVER — Marguerite E. Zechiel, 95, of West S.R. 110, Culver, died Saturday, June 20, 2009.
She is survived by a brother, Ferris Zechiel of Culver; a sister, Elisabeth Davis of Culver; two
nephews and two nieces.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, June 23, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Bonine-Odom Funeral Home,
Culver.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Culver Masonic cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Atlanta Bible College, P.O. Box, 100000, Morrow, GA, 30260-7000.

Lorraine Sheaks
WALKERTON — Lorraine Sheaks, 78, of Munster, formerly of Walkerton died Sunday, June 21,
2009 in her home.
Survivors include her children: Stephanie (Mike) Lane of South Bend, Christopher (Barb) Sheaks
of Lake Ann, Mich., Cindy (Robert) Fraine of Grovertown, Roy (Jarold) Sheaks of Maricopa,
Ariz., John (Cindy) Sheaks of Walkerton, Mary (Brian) Stewart of Munster and Mike (Amay)
Sheaks of Guam; 24 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 25 at 1 p.m. (Central Time) in Rannells Funeral Home,
Koontz Lake Chapel. Cremation will follow. Visitation is Wednesday, June 24 from 4 to 8 p.m.
CDT and Thursday at 11 a.m. until the time of services.
Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Calumet.

Jean M. Hooker
WALKERTON — Jean M. Hooker, 63, of Walkerton, passed away at 2:50 p.m., Monday, June
22, 2009, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend.
Jean was born July 4, 1945, in Hammond, to Orville W. and Catherine (Kerr) Vanes. Jean came
from the Hammond area in 1962. She graduated from Tyner High School in the Class of 1963.
Jean enjoyed horses, camping, being outdoors, and crocheting. She also was involved with the
Reins of Life. She made special blankets for many children. Jean was a member of the Calvary
Lutheran Church, Plymouth, Indiana, the American Legion, the Good Sam International RV, and
the local Blueberry Sam.
Jean and E. Lamar Hooker were united in marriage on Dec. 20, 1974 in Plymouth. Lamar
preceded Jean in death on Feb. 6, 1976.
Jean is survived by her sister-in-law, Sandra Vanes, and her nephew, Allen Vanes. She was
preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, David Vanes; and her companion,
Larry Birk.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009, at the Calvary Lutheran
Church, 1314 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, with the Rev. Steven Resner officiating. Burial will be
in New Oak Hill cemetery, Plymouth.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 25, 2009, from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 11 a.m., at
the Calvary Lutheran Church. The VAN GILDER FUNERAL HOME is handling the
arrangements.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the family.
