Katherine S. Wright
Services for Katherine S. Wright, 71, of Lake Bruce will be at 12 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009 at
Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Homes, 304 S. Chicago St., Royal Center.
She passed away at 7:25 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Logansport.
Born on July 20, 1938 in Kewanna, she was the daughter of the late Lovell and Frances (Engle)
Hurlburt. On Oct. 6, 1956 she married Robert L. Wright, Sr. and he preceded her in death on
Nov. 28, 2005.
She was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
Katherine retired from Controls, Inc. in Rochester and had also been a waitress at the Dam
Landing in Rochester and the Lion’s Den at Lake Bruce. She enjoyed walking, playing bingo and
spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include daughters, Dianna Johns and husband Troy of Logansport and Pamela K.
Becker and husband Kaye of Plymouth, son, Robert L. Wright, Jr. of Logansport, brothers,
Chester and Kenneth Wayne, sister, Patricia. She was also survived by four grandchildren:
Holly, Ashley, Tiffany and Matthew.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Blaine.
Pastor Scott Ellison will officiate and burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery, Lake Bruce.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009 at Harrison-Metzger & Rans
Funeral Homes, Royal Center Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Samuel Ray, II Allen
SAN PIERRE — Samuel Ray Allen II, 32, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009 in Knox.
He is survived by his mother, Brenda McDaniel of Knox; father, R. Samuel Allen I of Star City;
stepfather, William Thomas Vires of North Judson; daughter, Mariah Allen of LaPorte; sons:
Ceygan S. Allen of San Pierre and A.J. Allen of Texas; and brothers: Ryan Allen of North
Judson, Seth Allen of Warsaw, Sandon Allen of Warsaw, Christopher Allen of Texas, Brandon
Davidson of Knox, Justin Davidson of Knox, Ryan Fletcher of North Judson and Michael Yoe of
Plymouth.
Visitation is Friday, Aug. 7 at 10 a.m. at O’Donnell Funeral Home, North Judson. Services are
Friday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Round Lake cemetery, Knox.

Donald R. Gierke
LAPORTE — Donald R. Gierke, 62, of LaPorte, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009 in LaPorte Hospital.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Gierke (Bryant); daughters: Amy Herbst of Charlotte, N.C. and
Sarah Gierke of Louisville, Ky.; one granddaughter; sisters: Barbara Wiggins of San Diego,
Calif., Pat Krassow of Rolling Prairie, Sandra Hudson of Missouri, Darla Clark of LaPorte and
Ketra Bolster of LaPorte; brothers: Eugene and David Gierke of LaPorte and Brooks Hill of
Michigan City.
A private family service will be held. Cremation has taken place.
Cutler Funeral Home, LaPorte, is handling the arrangements.
Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Richard E. Ketcham
PLYMOUTH – Richard E. Ketcham, 85, passed away in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical
Center, Plymouth after becoming suddenly ill at home. Richard has made his home with his wife
on the Samuels family homestead located on 11A Road, Plymouth.
He was born the son of Ernest A. and Charity Olive (Freet) Ketcham on Feb. 25, 1924 in
Grovertown, and lived most of his life in the Plymouth area.
On Dec. 25, 1942 in Knox, he married Dollie M. Samuels and enjoyed nearly 67 wonderful years
together. She survives along with five children and their families; 12 grandchildren and 19 great
grandchildren.
They are; Lon and Nancy Ketcham of Irvine, Calif., Marcia Allen of South Bend,
Larry and Julie Ketcham of LaPorte, Della and Chuck Watson of Argos, and Nancy and Keith
Hayes of Plymouth.
Three sisters; Dorothy and Glen Johnson of Alaska, Betty Dilts of Plymouth and Helen Ross of
Grovertown also survive with numerous in-laws and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son John, two grandsons, five sisters and three
brothers.
Richard spent three and half years in the U.S. Army, serving most of this time overseas. He was
in five major battles, which earned him a large number of medals. He was a longtime member of
the Knox American Legion Post.
A lifetime member of the Eagle Creek Church, he served as song leader, board member and
was eager to assist where he was needed. He loved the Lord and served him faithfully.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009 in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral
Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. Services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral
home, Pastor Ed Hasnerl will officiate. Burial will follow in the Gross cemetery located on West
12th Road, Plymouth, where members of the American Legion Posts will accord honors.
Memorial gifts may be given in Richard’s memory to the Marshall/Starke Development Center,
1901 Pidco Drive, Plymouth, IN 46563.

Bernard E. Wajda
KNOX — Bernard E. Wajda, 88, of Knox, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009.
He is survived by his children: Robert (Mary) Miller of Round Lake Beach, Ill., Rose (Frank)
Nellis of Owensville, Christine (Rick) Baker of Culver and Albert (Joen) Wajda of Knox; sisters:
Sophie Lazzara and Violet Collins of Chicago, Ill.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Monday, Aug. 10 from 4 yo 8 p.m. with rosary at 4:30 p.m. at the M.C. Smith Funeral
Home, Knox. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic
Church. Burial will be at Crown Hill cemetery.

Marjorie F. Martens
ROCHESTER — Marjorie F. Martens, 86, of Rochester, died at 4 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, 2009 at home.
She is survived by daughters: Marilee (John) Diener of Wabash and Michelle (Jeff) Winterrowd
of Rochester; sons: Murro (Darla) Martens of Argyle, Texas and Mark (Betty) Martens of
Rochester; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brother, Edgar McCracken of
Sioux City, Iowa.
A celebration of the life of Marjorie Martens will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11 in the Good
Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and
one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Burial will be at Rochester IOOF cemetery.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the LeRoy Shelton American Legion and the
Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorials may be made to the Columbia Elementary Library, Grace
United Methodist Church or Hope Hospice of Fulton County.

Herbert L. Metzger
SEBRING, Fla. — Herbert L. Metzger, 65, died Friday, Aug. 7, 2009, in Sebring, Fla.
He is survived by his daughter, Angel Hickor of Meridian, Idaho; and his sisters: Gail Pontius of
Sebring, Fla. And Wilma Eby of Argos.
Van Gilder Funeral Home, Plymouth, handled the local arrangements and Stephenson-Nelson
Funeral Home & Crematory, in Sebring, Fla. Handled the private family service in Florida.
Memorials may be made to a Hospice of choice.

Elizabeth Cornett
BREMEN — Elizabeth Cornett, 72, of Bremen died Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009 at Elkhart Hospice
and Palliative Care.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Cornett of Bremen; son, Ken (Sue) Cornett of Mishawaka;
sisters: Mary G. (Phil) Christman of Zeeland, Mich., Margaret (Richard) Smith of Elkhart and
Cathy (Richard) Arnold of South Bend; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15 at the First Baptist Church in Bremen. Burial
will take place at the Bremen cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14
at Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Bremen.

Marvin Harry Schultz
CULVER — Marvin Harry Schultz, 79, of Culver, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009 at home.
He is survived by sons: Terry Schultz of Culver and Mark Schultz of Culver; brother, Norman
Schultz of Chicago, Ill.; and two grandchildren.
Visitation is Wednesday, Aug. 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel,
Knox. Services are Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will be at Grovertown cemetery.

Susan B. Blackburn-Stough
PLYMOUTH — Susan B. Blackburn-Stough, 86, of Maple Road, Plymouth, passed away at 6:20
a.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009 at Bremen Health Care Center, Bremen. She worked in the
Courthouse in Plymouth and then retired in 1988 from Lapaz Grain Company after 18 plus years
of service. Susan was born on Jan. 27, 1923 in Decatur, Mich. To the late Archie and Henrietta
(VanDenBurg) Webb and has lived in northern Indiana most of her life. On July 5, 1943 she
married Wayne Blackburn who preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 1970. Then, on Jan. 17, 1976
she married Ronald Stough who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters: Cheryl (Tom) Campbell of Madison, Ind. And Debbie (Terry)
Symon of Rochester; two sons: John (Faye) Blackburn of South Bend and David (Jeanette)
Stough Sr. of Plymouth. There are eight grandchildren: Brian Campbell, Troy Blackburn, David
Stough, Libby Blackburn, Jennifer Bikneris, Kelly Rector, Ryan Stough and Elizabeth Symon;
eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Richard (Alice) Webb of Mentone.
Two brothers, Frank and Robert Webb, preceded her in death.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009 at Lakeville United Methodist
Church, Lakeville. Rev. Larry Dimick and Rev. David Cross will officiate. Burial will follow at
Plainview cemetery in Macy. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at
Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville and one hour prior to services at church.
Susan graduated from Grass Creek High School, Grass Creek, Ind. She was also a Beauty
School graduate and worked many years as a beautician. She was a longtime active member at
Lakeville United Methodist Church where she was part of the, sewing circle, served on the
administrative board and taught Sunday school. She also worked many years on the Election
Board in Marshall County and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star #123 in Macy. She
especially loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grand and great grandchildren.
Susan and Ronald spent the winters in Homosassa, Fla. For the past 20 years and loved to
camp with friends prior to that.

Leola June DeMont
PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. — Leola June DeMont, 79, of Paradise Valley, Ariz., formerly of
Argos, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009 at 12:02 a.m. at Paradise Valley Senior Retreat, Paradise
Valley, Ariz. following a lengthy illness.
She was born June 13, 1930 in rural Marshall County to Clifford and Margaret Fay (Brumbaugh)
Robinson. On May 14, 1948 in Argos, she married Norman D. “Porky” DeMont, who preceded
her in death Feb. 10, 2000.
June had lived the last 20 years in Arizona, but maintained their home in Argos and returned
every summer.
June was a graduate of Tippecanoe High School with the class of 1948. She was a Inventor
Controller for McCord’s Corporation in Plymouth.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews; and special life friend Jeffery Brown and his
daughter Jacklyn Gentry of Phoenix, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; and brothers Mahlon and Keith Robinson.
Friends may visit with the family Saturday, Aug. 15 from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Earl-Grossman
Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos.
Memorials may be made to the Marshall County Humane Society: PO Box 22, Plymouth, IN 46563.
Arrangements have been entrusted with the Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, Argos.

Marilyn Sue Graverson
BREMEN — Marilyn Sue Graverson, 70, of Bremen, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009 at Bremen
Health Care Center.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas “Tom” Graverson of Bremen; mother, Mary Muncie of
Brazil; two granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; sisters: Beatrice Head, Deloris Ray,
Eunice Morgan, Dixie Rabb and Debbie Muncie, all of Brazil; brothers, Owen Muncie Jr. and
Ronald Muncie, both of Brazil; stepdaughters: Cynthia (Steve) McKenzie of Plymouth, Lisa
Richards of Bremen and Veronica (Gary) Pearce of Brazil; stepson, Thomas G. Graverson Jr. of
Brazil; 11 step grandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Wednesday, Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen.
Services are Wednesday at noon at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Bremen cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Marshall County or the donor’s choice.

Henry “Hank” Verhaeghe
BREMEN — Henry “Hank” Verhaeghe, 90, of Bremen, died at 5:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009 at
home.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha of Bremen; sons: Michael (Lynn) Verhaeghe of Bremen, Larry
(Lori) Verhaeghe of Bremen and Richard Verhaeghe of Tyner; daughter-in-law, Linda Verhaeghe
of Plymouth; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation is Wednesday, Aug. 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen.
Services are Thursday, Aug. 13 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Bremen
cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care.
