John Earl, Jr. Price
LAPAZ — John Earl Price Jr., 66, of LaPaz, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009 at Saint Joseph
Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Linda of LaPaz; sons: Rick Willard of Plymouth, Jim (Jane) Williams
of Plymouth and Terry (Angel) Price of Walkerton; daughters: Pamela Hutchins of Kokomo and
Tracy (Anthony) Boulas of Argos; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sisters: Betty
Bueller of Rosswell, Ga. And Betty VanDyke of Vansand, Va.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20 at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen.
Burial will follow at the Bremen cemetery. Visitation is from 11 a.m. until time of service
Thursday at the funeral home.

William A. Wilcockson
PLYMOUTH — William A. Wilcockson, 84, died of natural causes in Miller’s Merry Manor, at
12:15 p.m. Monday, Aug.17, 2009.
Born in Gary on Sept. 2, 1924, Bill was the son of William Awood and Agnes Beatrice Miller
Wilcockson.
Bill graduated from Winamac High School with the class of 1942.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on April 28, 1942 and served as a 2nd Class gunner’s mate in
World War II.
Bill graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in architectural engineering.
On April 21, 1951, in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Monterey, Bill and Alberta M. Master were
married . Bill is survived by two daughters and two sons. They are Elizabeth “Betty” Wilcockson,
and Rebecca Wilcockson, both of Plymouth and Richard (Jane) Wilcockson, Delton, Mich. and
James (Meg) Wilcockson, Plymouth.
A self-employed architect, he was the only one in town for many years. Among his designs were
numerous churches, the Marshall County jail, several Garden Courts, the pool in the park and
numerous homes both in Plymouth, South Bend and Florida.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the American Rifleman’s Association, Plymouth
Moose Lodge, and the Lion’s Club.
On Feb. 14, 1989 in Florida he married Karen Rhodes. He is survived by four stepchildren. They
are David and Jason Weeks and Kerri Meeks and Robin Ferguson, all of Tennessee.
Six granddaughters, one grandson and five great-grandsons, along with two great
granddaughters three step granddaughters and two step grandsons also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Bill will follow visiting with the family at 12 p.m. in the funeral home. The
Rev. Charles Krieg will officiate.
Burial will be in McKinley Gardens in Winamac.
Memorial gifts in Bill’s memory may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care or the
Diabetes foundation.

Jacob M. Berger
BOURBON — Jacob M. Berger, 14, of Bourbon, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009 at Saint Joseph
Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
He is survived by his parents, Tim Berger and Molly Emkow Berger of Bourbon; sister, Megan
Berger at home; brother, Robby Emkow at home; grandparents: Lynn and Robert Durkin of
McCordsville, James Emkow of Angola, Diane and Tom Wagoner of Bourbon and Michael and
Linda Berger of Warsaw; and great-grandparents: Naomi Strabbing of New Haven and Norma
Church of Bourbon.
Visitation is Thursday, Aug. 20 from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Bourbon Bible Church and for one hour
before services Friday. Services are Friday, Aug. 21 at 1:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at
Pleasant Hill cemetery, Bourbon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jacob Berger Memorial Fund.
Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, Bourbon, is in charge of the arrangements.

John L. Burgess
PLYMOUTH – With enduring strength John L. Burgess, 64 fought a three year battle with
cancer. In the early morning hours of Tuesday, Aug. 18 he found peace with his family by his
side. His passing came at his home for the past 37 years – the Hatfield family homestead
located at 8398 9B Road Plymouth.
John was born in Lake Village, Arkansas on November 20, 1944, the son of Louis H. and Martha
S. (Abernathy) Burgess. Louis passed away prior to his birth and from an early age was raised
by his mother and step-father Timothy J. Burgess. Martha resides today in Plymouth.
He was a graduate of Bremen High School with the class of 1962. That following January he
enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country in the Vietnam War as the rank of
Sergeant E-5 until January of 1967.
In Plymouth Dec. 7, 1968 he took as his bride the former Eileen M. Hatfield who survives with
their two daughters and families. They are: Lynne M. (Eric) Kallstrand of Naperville, Ill and
children Nathan, Jack and Gretchen and Susan R. Smith of Plymouth and children; Sophia,
Kathryn and Olivia.
Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters; Bill J. (Paula) Burgess, Robert B. (Brenda)
Burgess, Linda G. (Gene) Piper all of Plymouth and Beverly (Ed) Kakowski of Palm Coast,
Florida along with many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and step-father.
Providing for and enjoying family was foremost in John’s life. He dearly loved his six
grandchildren and they him. He used his skills as an expert bricklayer for the past 40 years in the
restoration of the family home, where he also spent time tinkering with his machinery. While in
the building trades he was a member of the Indiana/Kentucky Bricklayers Union No.4. John took
pride in working on several projects on the campus of Notre Dame and locally the Marshall Co.
annex building.
He enjoyed deer hunting and watching football.
His family will receive friends on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009 from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St. Plymouth. Services will be held in the funeral
home Friday, Aug. 21 at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow in the New Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth where military honors will be accorded
by members of the Plymouth American Legion Post 27, D.A.V. and Veterans of Foreign Wars -
Marshall Co. Post 1162.
Memorial gifts may be given in John’s memory to the Center For Hospice and Palliative Care,
112 S. Center Street, Plymouth, IN 46563

Randal Lee Garrett
BRISTOL — Randal Lee Garrett, 56, of Bristol, died as a result of an accidental house fire
Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia (Scott) Babcock of Bristol; a grandson; and a sister, Vicki
Shepard of Middlebury.
Visitation will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26 at Grace Lutheran Church,
831 West Marion St., Elkhart.
Funeral services will take place at 4 p.m. at the church.
Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola is handling arrangements.

Michelle Lee Garrett
BRISTOL — Michelle Lee Garrett, 20, of Bristol, died as a result of an accidental house fire
Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009.
She is survived by her sister, Patricia (Scott) Babcock of Bristol; her grandmother, Rosa Carter
of Plymouth; one nephew; and many aunts and uncles.
Visitation will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26 at Grace Lutheran Church,
831 West Marion St., Elkhart.
Funeral services will take place at 4 p.m. at the church.

Agnes Elaine Garrett
BRISTOL — Agnes Elaine Garrett, 55, of Bristol, died as a result of an accidental house fire
Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Scott) Babcock of Bristol; a grandson; mother, Rosa
Carter of Plymouth; seven sisters: Linda (Kirby) Miller of Nappanee, Carolyn “Liz” (Mark)
O’diorne of Mt. Vernon, Ind., Rosemary (Jeff) Schmucker of Warsaw, Lisa Skinner of Phoenix,
Ariz., Nancy (Ronnie) Linville, of Nappanee, Ruth (Barry) Curtis of South Bend, and Rebecca
(Tony) Stiles of Plymouth; and four brothers, Nathan Charles (Ginger) Carter of Elkhart, William
Paul (Lynda) Carter of Atoka, Ind., John Carter of Columbia City and Sam (Keri) Carter of Avilla,
Ind.
Visitation will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26 at Grace Lutheran Church,
831 West Marion St., Elkhart.
Funeral services will take place at 4 p.m. at the church.

Jacob Alan Unruh
ARGOS — Jacob Alan Unruh, 28, of Argos, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009 in his home
with his family at his side.
Jacob was born the son of John Unruh and Janice Bowyer Unruh Feb. 28, 1981 in Winamac.
He is survived by his parents of Argos; his paternal grandmother, Alene Unruh of South Bend;
two sisters: Kendra (Phillip) King and their children: Owen, Anthony and Hannah, all of Bourbon
and Krys Holem of Florida; and two brothers: Josh Unruh of Argos and Wally (Lotus) Holem and
children Wally and Louanna, all of South Bend.
He was a 1999 graduate of Triton High School and had worked at Wausau Homes of Etna
Green. He loved his motorcycles, nice cars and his family.
A celebration of Jacob’s life will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20 in the Deaton-Clemens Funeral
Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday
in the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Bethel cemetery, Bourbon.
Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Marjorie E. Ferrier
PLYMOUTH — Marjorie E. Ferrier, 96, of 635 Oakhill Ave., Plymouth, passed away at 8:30 a.m.
Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at Miller’s Merry Manor, in Plymouth.
Marjorie was born July 25, 1913 in Culver to Elza and Helga (Joehansen) Hawkins. Marjorie and
Charles Ferrier were married on March 15, 1936. Marjorie had been employed by the Culver
Citizen. She retired from McGill’s, in Culver, as a secretary in 1981.
Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Tina and James Hopple of Plymouth, her grandsons, Craig
and Hillary Hopple of Plymouth and their children Hanna, Hayden and Halle Hopple, Chad and
Marcella Hopple of Plymouth and their children Emily and Calvin Hopple, and her
granddaughter, Yvonne and Chad Watkins of Plymouth and their daughter Regan Watkins.
Services for Marjorie will be held Friday, Aug. 21 at 1 p.m. at the VAN GILDER FUNERAL
HOME, with the Rev. Denise Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Culver Masonic cemetery.
A time of visiting with Marjorie’s family will be Friday, Aug. 21 from NOON until time of service at
1 p.m., at the VAN GILDER FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, IN 46563.
The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the donor’s choice.

Charles R. May
PLYMOUTH — Charles R. “Charlie” May, 77, 3906 Springbrook, South Bend, died of a cancerrelated
illness in Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009 following
a 15 year battle. Charlie and his wife have wintered in North Ft. Myers since 1983 and spend
time in the summer at Jellystone Park, Plymouth.
Charlie’s motto in life was “ pay it forward.”
Born in Mishawaka on July 29, 1932, Charlie was the son of Charles W. and Ruth Irene
(Eastburn) May.
He graduated from Mishawaka High School with the class of 1954, serving in the Army with the
Presidential Honor Guard in the 1950s.
On Dec. 16, 1961, in South Bend, Charlie and Marlene S. Franklin were married .
Charlie worked at Uniroyal for 17 years and then as a shift superintendent for Torrington from
1968 until his retirement in 1982.
Marlene and Charlie also worked the Shipshewana Flea Market for 20 years.
He enjoyed canoeing, back packing, camping, traveling and all outdoor sports. He appreciated
guns and was a good auto mechanic.
He was great with dogs and loved his generations of Sheltie’s.
He was a Democrat Vice-Precinct Committeeman for St. Joseph County and was a member of
a men’s bowling league. He attended the Bayshore Chapel in North Ft. Myers, the Jellystone
Chapel and the Plymouth Baptist Church in Plymouth.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Marlene and their seven children, 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
They are Jill (Gary) Morris of Goshen, IN and their children: Kari and Leah; Bob
(Donna) May of South Bend and daughters Abby and Erica; Laurel (Mark) Phares of Osceola, IN
and children Amber, Elisa and Matthew; Mark (Lori) May of Mishawaka and daughter Lacey;
Owen “Butch” Morgan, South Bend; Pam (Ray) Sheppard of Argos and children Mac and Dee;
Tom (Rosie) Morgan of Plymouth and children, B.J., David and Michael.
A brother and two sisters and a sister-in-law also survive. They are David (Betty) May, Osceola:
Phyllis Pfelly, Mishawaka and Peggy Caporne, South Bend. His sister-in-law is Sandra Weiss of
Plymouth.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Timothy May.
A memorial service will be held in the Plymouth Baptist Church, 11345 9A Road Tuesday, Aug.
25, 2009, at 1 p.m. Charles Green, pastor of the Jellystone Chapel will officiate. A fellowship
meal will follow the service in the church.
The Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, is assisting with the
arrangements.
Memorial gifts in Charlie’s memory may be made to the Hope Rescue Mission of South Bend,
the Marshall County Humane Society or the North Central Indiana Food Bank.
