James W. Vician
PLYMOUTH — James Warren Vician, 37, born in Gary, on Dec. 11, 1971, but resided in
Plymouth most of his life, went to his reward on Sept. 1, 2009.
He leaves behind his wife of eight years, Trisha Vician; step-son, Dustin Kring; step-daughter,
Cassi Kring and a grandson, Harold Robert Martinek III, also known as Trey. He also leaves
behind his father, Stephen Vician, who resides in Plymouth; two brothers: Joel Vician, who
resides in Plymouth; twin brother, John, who lives in Plainfield; a sister, Julia Youst, who lives in
Warsaw and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jim’s mother, Louise Vician, preceded him in death May 10, 2009.
He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1991. Jim was a good friend to everyone who knew
him and he thought of his friends more like family.
He was an umpire for the LaVille Baseball and Softball Summer League and played for the Felke
Flooring Slow Pitch Softball co-ed league.
Jim was an avid deer hunter, NASCAR buff, enjoyed bowling and he loved fishing. He enjoyed
spending quality time with friends and family.
He bowled for Quick’s Lanes of Plymouth, and then started bowling at the Bowlaway Lanes in
Knox, where he became a board member.
Jim’s family invites his friends and family to share memories with them Saturday, Sept. 12, from
1 to 3 p.m. at the Plymouth Wesleyan Church, 11203 S. Michigan Road, Plymouth.
Memorial services for Jim, officiated by the Rev. Stephen Cox, will be held in the church
following visitation at 3 p.m.
After the service, there will be a memorial dinner at the ball field in LaPaz, behind the fire station.
Memorial contributions in Jim’s memory may be made to the LaVille Summer League.

Matrissa Woodward
PLYMOUTH — Baby girl Marissa Woodward was born Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, in Saint Joseph
Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, and entered into heaven that same day.
Survivors include parents, Brandon and Monica Woodward of Plymouth; a sister, Isabella at
home; paternal grandparents, Glenn and Connie Woodward of Plymouth; maternal
grandparents, Maria and Octavio Arriola of Fabens, Texas; paternal great-grandparents, Helen
and Glenn Woodward of Plymouth.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday in St. Dominic Catholic Church,
Bremen, with Father Polycarp Fernando.
Burial will follow at Bremen cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to service.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen, was entrusted with local arrangements.

Eileen W. Butler
CULVER — Eileen W. Butler, 81, of Culver passed away Sept. 2, 2009 at 10:21 a.m. in Miller’s
Merry Manor, Culver.
Eileen was born Sept. 20, 1927 in Chicago, Ill., one of six children born to Albert and Goldie
(Tombs) Jenkins. After graduating high school, Eileen fell in love and married Robert E. Butler
Aug. 14, 1948 in Leiters Ford.
They shared 61 wonderful years of marriage. Together they raised four children. Eileen worked
as a doctor’s assistant for Dr. Powers and Stevenson for several years.
She was a member of the Culver City Club and the Grace United Church of Christ in Culver. She
loved to cook and sew.
Eileen is survived by her loving husband, Robert E. Butler of Culver; sons: Jim (Betty) Butler of
Culver, Gary (Michelle) Butler of Knox, Scott Jenkins of South Carolina, and Jeffrey (Susan)
Jenkins of Indianapolis; sister, Ruby Herzak of Dunedin, Fla.; six grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald Jenkins; sisters: Kathryn Withers,
Pauline Jenkins, and Marie Baker; one grandchild, and special nephew Dick Pontious.
A time of sharing memories with Eileen’s family will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 from 10 to
11 a.m. at the Grace United Church of Christ in Culver where Rev. Robin Keating will officiate
funeral services at 11 a.m.
Interment will be at a later date.
The Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, Culver, is in charge of arrangements

Bruce M. Foster
PLYMOUTH — Bruce M. Foster, 59, of 926 Miner St., Plymouth, passed away Wednesday,
Sept. 2, 2009, and has gone to be with the Lord. He was born Sept. 29, 1949. He was the
husband and best friend of Carol Stull Foster; the greatest dad of Daniel Foster, Tempe, Ariz.,
Troy (Lisa) Blackburn of Clovis, N.M., and Libby Blackburn of Plymouth; proud grandpa of
Kendall and Jackson Blackburn of Clovis; and the brother of Steve Foster and Sam Foster of
Rochester.
Bruce was raised in Indianapolis, and Lake Bruce, Indiana. He graduated from Monterey High
School, Monterey, and Indiana University, Bloomington. Bruce’s humor and his strength, in all
that he did, will always be an inspiration.
Bruce has requested that donations, in lieu of flowers, be made to the Marshall-Starke
Development Center, 1901 Pidco Drive, Plymouth, IN, 46563, or to the Center for Hospice and
Palliative Care, 120 South Center St., Plymouth, IN, 46563.

Marjorie Kitt
NAPPANEE — Marjorie Kitt, 81, of Nappanee, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009 at 5:26 p.m. at
Hamilton Grove Communities, New Carlisle, after a brief illness.
She is survived by a daughter, Anne (John) Maesaka of Goshen; a son, James Kitt of South
Bend; three granddaughters; and a sister, Myla Snider of New Carlisle.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral
Home, 950 N. Main St. Nappanee, Friday, Sept. 11.
Funeral services will take place Saturday, Sept. 12 at 10:30 a.m. at GracePoint Presbyterian
Church, Nappanee.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne.
Memorials may be made to the World Wildlife Fund or Feed the Children.

Jimmy, Sr. Sumpter
NAPPANEE — Jimmy Sumpter Sr., 70, of Nappanee, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2009 at 10 a.m. at
his residence.
He is survived by a son, Jim (Laurie) Sumpter Jr. of Nappanee; daughters: Missy (Jay) Fisher
and Becky (Matt) Tice, all of Nappanee; 12 grandchildren; sisters: Peggy (Bernie) Beer of
Nappanee and Pattie (Sam) Younce of Etna Green; and brother, Jack (Carrol) Sumpter of Warsaw.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, Sept. 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder
Funeral Home, 950 N. Main St. Nappanee.
Funeral services will take place Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Bremen cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Tourette Syndrome Association.

Deloris May Kuhn
ROCHESTER — Deloris May Kuhn, 64, of Rochester, died Saturday, Sept. 5 at 7:20 a.m. at her
residence.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Lee at home; daughters: Sheryl (Bob) Egyhazi of
Mishawaka, Diana (Bob) Holowatuk of LaPaz, and Treasa (David) Stoltz of Mishawaka; sons:
Donald (Teresa) Tate of Georgetown, S.C. and Jeff Tate of Aurora, Ill.; sisters: Pam (Don)
Detering of Vincennes and Judy Arnold of Plainfield; and a step-daughter, Tracy (Chris) Farah of
Las Vegas, Nev.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9 at the Good Family Funeral Home,
1200 W. 18th St. Rochester.
Funeral services will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Hope Hospice.

Alison Rachelle Smith
NORTH LIBERTY — Alison Rachelle Smith of North Liberty passed away late Friday night, Sept.
5. She was born Nov. 10, 1979 in South Bend.
She leaves behind her family as she begins the next part of her journey. She will be missed by
her mother, Teresa Metsker of Westfield; father, Mark Smith and his wife Jan of Tyner; brother,
Adam Smith of Plymouth; sister, Amanda Hill and her husband Don of Eureka Springs, Ark.;
aunts: Tracy Fry of Elkhart, and Janine Gassere of Westfield; grandparents: Ben and Margeret
Smith of Plymouth, Ed Erickson of Plymouth, Harold Tuttle of Walkerton; and great grandmother
Florence Erickson of Plymouth.
She also leaves behind an extended, loving family of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She
was preceded in death by her “Grammy, ” Shirley Tuttle of Walkerton.
Our Hummingbird flew to Heaven in the folds of Grammy's Rainbow to soar with the angels. The
Dragonfly and the Bumblebee perch on Adam’s shoulders as they all wave, not goodbye, but
good journey. The rest of the family look on in sadness though we can still see Alison’s smile in
the sunshine and the spring rain. Her art and her soul will live on in all of us.
Services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 9 at Rannell’s Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel.
Viewing will be from 2 to 4 p.m. ET with a funeral service at 4 p.m. ET.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests monetary donations be made to the funeral home.

Michael John Cooney
VALRICO, Fla. — Michael John Cooney, 52, of Valrico, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009.
He is survived by his wife, Dru; daughter, Shea Cooney of Orlando, Fla.; four sons: Logan,
Morgan, Brennan and Pierson Cooney, all of Valrico; mother, Aileen Cooney of Jackson, Ga.;
brother, Tom Cooney, Crystal River, Fla. And two sisters: Pat Hanus, Jackson, Ga. And Jane
Cooney, Mesquite, Texas.
Visitation will take place one hour prior to services at Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Redeemer
Presbyterian Church, 12404 Boyette Road, Riverview. Funeral services will take place at 4 p.m.
Wednesday, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Deacon's Fund at Redeemer Presbyterian
Church, 12404 Boyette Road, Riverview, FL 33569.

Phebe C. McFarland
PLYMOUTH — Phebe C. McFarland, 74, of Plymouth, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009 at 10:20 a.m.
at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
She is survived by sons: Mike McFarland of Plymouth and Randy McFarland of Argos; and two
grandchildren.
There will be no visitation services.Funeral services and interment will take place at a later date.
Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, Culver was entrusted with arrangements.

Jeffery Ray Blythe
PLYMOUTH — Jeffery Ray Blythe, 19, of Plymouth, died Monday, Sept. 7, 2009.
He is survived by his mother, Linda Fredrick; father, David Blythe; brothers: Joseph Blythe and
Greg Blythe; grandfather, William Spratt; and grandmother, Mary Choat.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11 at G. H. Herrmann Madison Avenue
Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Ave., Indianapolis.
Funeral services will take place at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sep. 12, at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in The Gardens at Olive Branch cemetery and Mausoleum Park.

Evelyn G. Gentry
BROWNSBURG, Ind. — Evelyn G. Gentry, 83, of Brownsburg, formerly of Culver, passed away
in Methodist Hospital of Indianapolis at 11:10 a.m. Sept 7, 2009.
Evelyn was born Sept. 8, 1925 in rural Starke County, one of five children born to Harry and
Pansy Eskridge. She met and later married the love of her life, Oris Gentry, Aug. 7, 1948 in
Knox. They raised two children together.
Evelyn worked at McGill Corp. for approximately 20 years. She loved to read, reading her Bible
daily, and became a huge Indiana Pacers fan. She was a former member of the Eagle Creek
Church in Knox.
Since moving to Brownsburg, she attended the Hope Community Church.
Evelyn is survived by her sons: Terry (Sherry) Gentry of Carmel, and Preston (Jan) Gentry of
Brownsburg; brother, Harry (Diane) Eskridge of Plymouth; sister, OrfaJean Wentzel of Culver;
five grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents,
husband, brother, Kenneth Eskridge and sister, Vivian Hess.
A time of sharing memories with Evelyn’s family will be held Thursday Sept. 10, 2009 from 5 to 8
p.m. EDT at the Bonine-Odom Funeral Home in Culver. Funeral services will be officiated by
Pastor Jim Bohrer Friday, Sept. 11, 2009 at 2 p.m. EDT at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at Culver Masonic cemetery.
Memorials may be given in Evelyn’s memory to the Gleaners Food Bank (Indianapolis) and
mailed to Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, 104 E. Lakeshore Drive, Culver, IN, 46511.
The Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, Culver, is in charge of arrangements.
