NAPPANEE — Rosalie Weaver, 79, of Nappanee, died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009 at 3 a.m. at her home.
She is survived by her husband Dale; sons: Roger (Ellen) Weaver of Goshen and Steve
(Teresa) Weaver of Claypool; a daughter, Connie Fruchey of Newark, Del.; nine grandchildren;
nine great-grandchildren; and sisters: Shirley Cannon of Bremen and Nancy Davis of Goshen.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder
Funeral Home, 950 N. Main St., Nappanee.
Funeral services will take place Thursday, Oct. 15 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Union Center cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Goshen Cancer Center or Goshen General Care at Home Hospice.

Kerry Weidner
FORT WAYNE — Kerry Weidner, 52, of Milford, died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009 at Lutheran
Hospital, Ft. Wayne.
He is survived by his wife Jacqui; sons: Joshua Weidner and Jordan Weidner, both at IU
Bloomington; a daughter, Alyssa Weidner, at home; a step-son, Fred Hoyle of Milford; and one
step-daughter, Emma Hoyle, of Milford; brothers: Kevin (Carolyn) Weidner of Glendale, Ariz.
And Keith (Jill) Weidner of South Bend; sisters: Karen Prebys of Greenwood, Kathy (Kenny)
Thomas of Chesapeake, Va., Karol Weidner of Chesapeake, Va., Karla (Fred) Malecki of
Granger and Father Earl Weidner of Plymouth.
Visitation will take place Thursday, Oct. 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home,
Milford.
Funeral services will take place Thursday at 7 p.m. a the funeral home.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society
The Mishler-Eastlund Funeral Home, Milford was entrusted with arrangements.

Makena Kay Whybrew-Weisenberger
ROCHESTER — Makena Kay Whybrew-Weisenberger, 9 days old, Macy, Indiana, died at 8:42
a.m. Monday Oct. 12, at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.
Survivors include her parents of Macy; sister, Gabriella Whybrew, Macy; grandmothers, Tamra
Whybrew, Tippecanoe, Ronda Moore, Warsaw; great-grandparents, Donna Smith and Glenn
Smith, Tippecanoe; Rosey Moore and Arte Moore, Wabash; and aunts and uncles.
Burial and graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at Palestine
cemetery, Palestine.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Makena Whybrew Weisenberger Memorial Fund.
Arrangements by Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester.

John "Jack" Singleton
KNOX-John “Jack” Singleton, 79, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009 in Starke Memorial Hospital, Knox.
He is survived by his wife MarieLena; sons: John (Cindy) Singleton, Robert Singleton, Gary
(April) Singleton, Kevin (Meredith) Singleton, all of Knox and Byron (Deb) Singleton and Chris
(Miranda) Singleton, all of Plymouth; two daughters: Karen (Ron) Sobieck and Margaret (Craig)
Singleton, all of Knox and many grandchildren.
Visitation will take place Friday, Oct. 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. (Central Time) at Rannells Funeral
Home, Hamlet Chapel and one hour prior to funeral services Saturday.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 17 at noon at the funeral chapel.
Burial will be at the Fletcher cemetery, Hamlet.
Memorial contributions may be given to Karen Sobieck.

Nellie D. Conley
FORT WAYNE — Nellie D. Conley, of Tucson, Ariz. and formerly of Etna Green, passed away
on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009 at 4:34 a.m. at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, at the age of 70.
She was born Jan. 19, 1939 in Etna Green, to Robert Long and Dessel (Bach) Haynes. On June
15, 1957 she was married to Herman E. Conley, who survives.
She was a resident of Etna Green up until 1989, moving to Tucson, where she worked for 15
years at Fry’s Supermarket of Tucson in the Deli Department.
Nellie will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 52 years, Herman Conley (Tucson, Ariz.);
three daughters: Colleen (husband Mark) Mast (Nappanee); Melanie Stenstrom (Etna Green);
Becky (husband Don) Milliser (Plymouth); two sons: Jim (wife Becky) Conley (Etna Green);
Patrick (wife Martha) Conley (Plymouth); and her sister: Patty (husband Tom) Pulliam (Fountain
Hills, Ariz.).
She also leaves eight grandchildren: Justin Reed, Sara Reed, Athena Stenstrom, Andy
Stenstrom, Alaina Stenstrom, Taylor Milliser, Blake Milliser, Trenton Conley; 11 step grandchildren,
and 15 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and
two brothers: Leon E. Long and James A. Long.
Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw.
Her funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m. at Etna Green Church of Christ, 206
W. Broadway, Etna Green, with Pastor Jordan Ickes officiating.
Burial will be in Etna Green cemetery, Etna Green.
Memorial donations can be made to Relay for Life – “Team Nellie, ” 9859 Deer Trail, Plymouth,
IN 46563, and would be appreciated by the family.

Wendell W. Nelson
CULVER — Wendell W. Nelson, 79, of State Street in Culver, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 14
at 10 p.m. at Miller’s Merry Manor, Culver.
He was born in Argos Feb. 16, 1930, the son of the late Donald and Frances Evans Nelson.
He was a proud member of Argos High School graduating class of 1948. He was a charter
member of the Argos High School FFA. Ad a young man interested in agriculture, he was an
active participant in Marshall County 4-H. His senior year, he set the benchmark for others to try
to achieve. With great effort and a vision, his work ethic was established during his teenage
years. The fair results were paramount as he garnered grand champion beef, sheep and hog in
addition to being appointed grand champ with showmanship. No one has ever come near his
record-setting performance.
Two years later, July 23, 1950, at the Argos Congregational Church, he married his best friend
and love of his life, Jean Biggs Nelson. On July 23, 2009, they celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Their marriage yielded four daughters, Wendy, Judy, Shirley and Tracey; and son, Terry. Seven
grandchildren were later added to the family.
As an original U.S. Sky Marshall, Wendell trained at Langley Air Force Base and Quantico
Marine Corps Base. He later accepted a position with the U.S. Treasury Department, specifically
U.S. Customs. He led an interesting., but usually secret, life as required by the government.
He worked with U.S. attorneys, wired airplanes and he also developed and provided sources that
later brought down Noriega. Wendell was called to testify during Nixon’s impeachment hearings
and he was highly decorated by our government with many accommodations, including one for
marksmanship and another for thwarting a highjacking.
Wendell, with the true heart of a farmer, owned farms in rural Argos and rural Plymouth. Over
the years, he enjoyed hogs and Holsteins. A favorite memory was the pony races he enjoyed as
a young man at Plymouth, Bourbon and area county fairs.
As a politician, Wendell enjoyed helping his fellow Democrats into office. He enjoyed all types of
athletic contests, including croquet and shuffleboard. He was known by family and close friends
as a fierce competitor at whatever type of contest he engaged in, with a vision he presevered
then prevailed. He was passionate about his family, enjoying the good times they shared. The
past 20 years, he and Jean enjoyed time together wintering in Naples, Fla.
He is survived by his wife Jean, at home; children: Wendy Nelson of Kokomo, Judy Heliste and
Richard of Carmel, Shirley Nelson and Michael and Vernon Hills, Ill., Terry Nelson of Argos,
Tracey Morris and David of Palm Coast, Fla.; seven grandchildren: Kalen and Drew Heliste,
Tyler Nelson, Matthew and Marcus Morris and William and Jonathon Ford. He is also survived
by a brother, Glen Nelson and wife Geneva, of Highland. He was preceded in death by his
parents and a brother, Maurice.
A celebration of life of Wendell Nelson will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 in New Oak Hill
Chapel, with Pastor Steven Sherwood officiating. Entombment will be in New Oak Hill cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 10:30 a.m. through the hour of service.
Memorials may be made to the Marshall County 4-H Fair general fund.
Good Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Richard W. Gaines
TIPPECANOE — Richard W. Gaines, 65, of Tippecanoe, formerly of Columbus, Ohio, died at
3:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15 in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
He is survived by five children including Ann Marie Gaines of Cleveland, Ohio; several
grandchildren; sisters and brothers: Violet Ray, Shirley DeBow, Elizabeth Ward, Brenda Carter,
Barbara Dickson, Loretta Keehn, Roger Gaines and Joseph Gaines; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Visitation will be from noon until 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19 in the New Oakhill cemetery Chapel.
Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel with burial to follow.
The Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, was entrusted with
arrangements.

Raymond C. Daugherty
PLYMOUTH — Raymond C. Daugherty, 54, of Plymouth, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at 6:28 p.m.
at his home.
He is survived by his daughter, Autum (Matt) Ruby of Argos; his son, Harley Daugherty of Argos;
and two grandsons.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Post #27,
Plymouth, where friends are invited to share memories and visit with Raymond’s family.
Van Gilder funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth is entrusted with arrangements.

Raymond C. Daughtery
PLYMOUTH — Raymond C. Daugherty, 54, of Plymouth, died Friday, Oct.16, 2009, at 6.28 p.m.
at his home.
He is survived by his daughter, Autum (Matt) Ruby of Argos, Indiana; his son, Harley Daugherty
of Argos; and two grandsons.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Van Gilder Funeral
Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, was entrusted with arrangements.

Betty R. Dering
COLUMBUS, Ind. — Betty R. Dering, 87, of Columbus, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at 3:45 p.m.
at the Silver Oaks Health Campus.
Betty was born in Culver, June 28, 1922, the daughter of Millard C. and Blanche M. Cromley
Finney.
She married Albert Linhart June 9, 1955; he preceded her in death Feb. 22, 1987. She married
Glenn L. Dering July 1, 1989.
Mrs. Dering retired from the Culver Military Academy where she worked in the office. She
formerly was employed at the Culver Marina and was a long time member of the Marshall
County Fair Board and served for many years as its Treasurer.
She was a member of White Creek United Methodist Church, Gideon’s Auxiliary, United
Methodist Women in White Creek and Culver.
Survivors include her second husband, Glenn L. Dering; children: Gregory P. (Pat) Yapp of
Springport, Ind., Richard D. (Jutta) Linhart of Idaho and Susan D. Francoeur-Amich (Doug) of
Columbus; sisters: Lila Fenimore of Franklin and Thelma “Jean” Ringer of Lakeville; seven
grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; two brothers and one sister.
The funeral will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick
Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike with the Pastor Roger A. Walby officiating. Calling will be
from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. to time of service Wednesday.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Culver Masonic cemetery
in Culver.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Gideons International.

Stephen T., MD Hampton
BEDFORD — Stephen T. Hampton M.D. died peacefully at home Oct. 16, 2009. He had courageously
been fighting cancer for the past year.
He was born March 18, 1956 in Saginaw, Mich. He grew up in Argos where his father was in
family practice.
After graduating from Argos High School he attended Purdue University and then attended
Tulane University in New Orleans, La. He earned a degree in Biology and a master’s degree in
Pharmacology.
After working for the Department of Energy in New Orleans and Washington, D.C., he graduated
from Tulane Medical School. After completing his orthopedic residency in Chicago at the
University of Illinois, he moved to Anderson, and practiced for 16 years before moving to
Bedford, Ind. In Bedford he worked for Dunn Memorial Hospital as part of South Central Indiana
Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.
While in Anderson he was the team doctor for all athletics at Anderson University. He also
taught and provided job shadowing opportunities for many high school and college students.
He is survived by his wife Julie (Snyder) Hampton whom he married Aug. 12, 1978; two
daughters: Haley, 12, and Lauren, 8, who were the loves of his life; his parents: Dr. James and
Frances Hampton of Naples, Fla.: one sister, Peggy Annis and her husband Larry of Monon; two
brothers: David Hampton and his wife Traci of Edmond, Okla., and John Hampton and his wife
Darci of Plymouth; his father- and mother-in-law Don and Marlis Snyder; brother-in-law and
sister-in-law Doug and Kim Snyder; sister-in-law Karen Snyder; and brother-in-law Tim Snyder,
all of Plymouth. Also several nieces, nephews aunts, uncles and cousins survive.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Marc and Michael Hampton and his wonderful
grandparents.
Funeral Services were held Oct. 21 in Bedford and graveside committal services were held later
that day at Maplewood cemetery on the campus of Anderson University in Anderson.
A memorial service will take place Sunday, Nov. 15, in Plymouth at Calvary Lutheran Church at
1 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend.
