Elsa E. "Mazie" Fraschetti
HAMLET — Elsa E. “Mazie” Fraschetti, 68, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009 in Hospice House, South Bend.
She is survived by two daughters: Rachelle Foust of Grovertown and Tracy Jeffers of South
Bend; one son, John Jeffers of Hamlet; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three
step-children; six step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; four sisters: Nancy Earnest,
Imogene Clemmons and Monica Clemmons, all of Hamlet, and Willie Rajski of North Liberty;
and one brother, Walt Clemmons Sr. of Hamlet.
Funeral services will be Sunday, Oct. 25 at 5 p.m. (Central Time) at Rannells Funeral Home,
Hamlet Chapel, where friends may call Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of services.
Cremation will follow with a graveside service Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. at Fletcher cemetery,
Hamlet.

Bobby J. Galloway
ROCHESTER — Bobby J. Galloway, 62, of Rochester, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009 at his residence.
He is survived by his wife Vicki; a daughter, Traci Honkomp of Rochester; son, Toby Galloway of
Rochester; his mother, Mary Spurgeon of Logansport; sister, Sandra Sue Sturdivant of
Logansport; brother, John F. (Gladys) Galloway of Rochester; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22 and one hour prior to services Friday
at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Rochester IOOF cemetery with military rites. Memorials donations may be
made to the Eagles Scholarship Fund.

Gertrude Marie "Trudy" Joseph
PLYMOUTH – Gertrude Marie “Trudy” Joseph, 92, passed away at home on Wednesday,
October 21, 2009 at 10:27 a.m. of natural causes.
Formerly of Windmill Park, she has made her home at 12747 Peach Road with her
granddaughter Kim and James Lockwood of Plymouth.
She was born in LaCrosse, Ind., the daughter of James and Nola (Woods) Armentrout on
January 31, 1917. Trudy has lived in the Marshall County area most of her lifetime.
Trudy retired in 1979 from Chamberlin’s in Arkon, Indiana as an inspector. But her best job as
she put it was; “Bossing the rest of them around.”
She married Ross Smith in June of 1932 he preceded her in death Thanksgiving Day of 1981.
On February 29, 1983 in Logansport, she married David E. Joseph. Her heart was broken when
David preceded her in death just six weeks ago on September 8, 2009.
They had attended the Plymouth Baptist Church.
Trudy is survived by two sons; Richard (Joyce) Smith of Holiday Island, Ark. And David (Linda)
Smith of Loogootee, Ind. Also surviving are three step-daughters and one step-son they are;
Christina Morlock of Plymouth, Rebecca (Jim) Fiely and Marsha (Joe) Gibbs all of Logansport
and Phillip (Brenda) Joseph of Idaho and daughter-in-law; Dorothy Smith.
Twenty-five grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren survive as
well.
A sister, Opal Widener of Rochester, and a brother Kenneth Armentrout of The Colony, Texas
also survive.
She was preceded in death her spouse, a son; Robert Smith and son-in-law; John Morlock, one
brother and three sisters.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday October 23, in the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth where services will be held at 11 a.m. with
Rev. Glen Mitchell officiating.
Burial will follow services in the Reichter cemetery, near Talma, Indiana.
Memorial gifts may be given to the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, 112 S. Center St.,
Plymouth, Indiana 46563.

Harry Dale Kane
BREMEN — Harry Dale Kane passed away Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009 in Bremen.
He was born Sept. 16, 1925 in North Liberty to Robert and Augusta (Hanson) Kane. He
graduated from North Liberty High School in 1943 where he lettered in basketball and took part
in school plays.
After graduation Harry joined the U.S. Army and left to serve his country during WWII in the
Philippines and later was stationed in Japan as a sergeant. He returned home and married
Wanda Ruth Lauver June 18, 1949, at North Liberty United Methodist Church. Wanda preceded
him in death June 12, 2008.
Harry worked at Studebakers and retired from Bendix after 32 years. He farmed in North Liberty
and moved to Bremen in 1971 when the Kane farmland was purchased for the development of
Potato Creek State Park. He continued to farm in Bremen and was a member of Indiana Farm Bureau.
Harry is survived by his family who dearly loved him and greatly admired his strength and
honesty in everything he did. His six daughters and spouses are: David and Jane Yoder, Tim
and Jan Hardy, Todd and Jenny Bennitt, Tracy and Julie Miller, all of Bremen; Don and Jill
Mulvihill of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; and Dave and Joann Teune of Concord, N.H.
Harry greatly enjoyed being part of the lives of all 17 grandchildren he was blessed with:
Shannon (Mark) McBride, Ryan (Brooke) Libey, Shane Libey, Ben and Katelyn Yoder, Ruth,
Ellen and Daniel Mulvihill, Dianne, Kevin and Bethany Hardy, Patrick, Aaron and Brian Teune,
Laura (Kirk) Bates, Lenae and Lacey Bennitt. Harry also had seven great-grandchildren: Dane,
Rylan and Jaleigh McBride; Brylie, Seth and Elle Libey; and Landon Bates.
Harry is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ruth Kane of South Bend; and a brother-in-law and
his wife, Del and Julia Lauver of Niles, Mich. His parents preceded him in death as well as his
brother, Marvin Kane; and sister, Mary (Kane) Albright.
Harry demonstrated to his family a strong work ethic and possessed a keen sense of who he
was that earned him respect by all.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Harry's life at Nappanee Missionary Church
Sunday, Nov. 8, at 2:30 p.m. A time of fellowship for all will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bremen United Methodist Daycare
where Harry served as one of the founding board members and happily spent many years as
“handyman” and stopped in for visits, or to Nappanee Missionary Church where he attended.
The Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen is assisting the family with arrangements.

Barbara Ellen Arvesen
NORTH VERNON — Former Plymouth resident, Barbara Ellen Arvesen, 55, passed away
Thursday morning in her North Vernon home following complications of a therapeutic hospital
procedure performed the day prior.
Barb was raised in Plymouth, the daughter of Robert C. Arvesen Sr. and Janet L. (Van Asten)
Arvesen. She graduated from Plymouth High School with the Class of '72 and furthered her
education at Indiana University, Bloomington and graduated from the School of Nursing. Barb
was full of life and adventure which led her back to where she was born Feb. 27, 1954 to San
Diego, Calif.
There she took a job doing rotations in the neo-natal intensive care units devoting her attention
to little ones in greatest need of care. She also was active with the CERT (Community
Emergency Response Team) Program of San Diego County along with her brother Eric. She
resided there from 1974 to 2009 moving to North Vernon earlier this year and made her home
with companion Gregory L. Lanum.
Barb enjoyed traveling, camping and her greatest joy, visiting the Pandas at the San Diego Zoo
where she was a member of the Zoological Society.
Surviving is her father Bob Arvesen, a resident at Lawrence Lake, Plymouth; and siblings: Nancy
P. Bice of Marshall, Mich., Mark E. Arvesen of Plymouth, Jerry Arvesen of Bloomington, Karen
M. Green, Patty L. Pynaert and Eric L. Arvesen, all of Plymouth. Several nieces and nephews
also survive.
Her mother Janet preceded her in death in 1983.
Service arrangements are incomplete at this time with the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home,
Plymouth and will be announced at a future date.
The family would like any form of remembrance given as a memorial gift in Barbara E. Arvesen’s
name to the San Diego Zoological Society, P.O. Box 120551, San Diego, CA, 92112-0551 or

Cassandra "Bandanish" Basehoar
PLYMOUTH — Cassandra “Badanish” Basehoar, 62, of Plymouth, died Oct. 23, 2009 at her residence.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughter, Desiree Badanish of Leesburg, Fla.; sons:
Emery Badanish of Independence, Mo. And Floyd Badanish of Grand Rapids, Mich.; mother,
Dorothy Schriver Schmelter of Plymouth; and a sister, Bonnie Edwards (Larry) Sheetz.
Visitation will take place Monday, Oct. 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. with a funeral service at 6 p.m. at
Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Visitation will also take place Tuesday, Oct. 27 from noon to 2 p.m. with a service at 2 p.m. at
Lake Forest cemetery Chapel, Grand Haven, Mich.
Burial will take place at Lake Forest cemetery, Grand Haven, Mich.
Memorials may be made to the Calvary Lutheran Church, Plymouth.

Clairabelle Katherine Fletcher
PLYMOUTH — Clairabelle Katherine Fletcher, infant, was stillborn at 1:48 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23,
2009 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
She is survived by her parents, Chad and Stacey Creighbaum Fletcher; maternal grandparents
Katherine and Duane Flory of Tippecanoe; paternal grandparents Christina and Gerald Miller of
Plymouth and Duane and Denise Fletcher of Medaryville; maternal great-grandmother Irene
Creighbaum of Tippecanoe; paternal great-grandparents Frances and Randy Bailey of Knox,
Harold and Jolene Manns of Knox, Earl and Arpha Fletcher of Winamac and Raymond and Irma
Miller of Goshen and paternal great-great-grandmother Willie Russell of Knox.
Family services will be held at Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth.
Arrangements are entrusted with Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth.

Vern R. Baker
ROUND LAKE, Ill. — Vern R. Baker, 82, of Round Lake, Ill., formerly of Tyner, died Oct. 24, 2009.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis; daughter, Betty (Mario) Arena; son, John (Terry) Baker; four
grandchildren; sisters: Ruth Rensberger of Plymouth and Mary Alice Workman of Bluffton and
many other friends and relatives.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. at Victory Lakes, 1055 W. Grand
Ave., Lindenhurst, Ill.
Donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2211 N. Oak Park Ave., Chicago,
IL, 60707.

Preston D. Cobb
GROVERTOWN — Preston D. Cobb, 63, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009 in his home. He is
survived by his wife, Vetia; two sons: David of Plant City, Fla. and Preston Jr. of Richmond, Ky.;
three granddaughters; and three sisters: Lilly Young and Brenda Minton, both of London, Ky. and
Helen Cochran of Chesterton.
There will be no services or visitation.
Cremation will take place.
Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel was entrusted with arrangements.

Elder Robbins
BREMEN — Elmer Robbins, 99, of Bremen, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009 at Bremen Health Care Center, Bremen.
He is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Robbins of South Bend; a son, Wayne Robbins; foster
daughter, Louise Weaver of LaFountain and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and
great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place one hour prior to the memorial service to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday,
Oct. 31 at Mishler Funeral Home, 2030 S.R. 331, Bremen.
Memorials may be made to the cause of the donor’s choice.

Alma A. Rice
KOONTZ LAKE - Alma A. Rice, 88, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009 in LaPorte Hospital, LaPorte.
She is survived by two daughters: Eva Rice of Koontz Lake and Betty Rink of Goshen; a son,
Bobby Rice of Koontz Lake; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place Wednesday, Oct. 28 at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel
from 10 a.m. (Central Time) until the time of services.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
Burial will be at the Grovertown cemetery.

Heinz W. Schafer
PLYMOUTH — Heinz W. Schafer, age 85, of 678 Windmill Drive, Plymouth, passed away at
8:54 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at his home.
Heinz was born Feb. 21, 1924, in Dusseldorf, Germany, to Willi and Anna (Springer) Schafer.
Heinz started playing the violin at the age of five. He later studied at the Hamburg Conservatory
of Music.
He served with the German Air Force from May 1, 1941, during WWII, as a radio operator. Heinz
immigrated to the United States in 1950. He and Lucille E. Andrews were united in marriage
Feb. 13, 1954. Lucille preceded Heinz in death Dec. 18, 1997.
Heinz was retired from Kelly Buick, in Bremen, as an auto mechanic. He was a member of the
First Church of Christ, in Plymouth. Heinz will be deeply missed by his loving family, and his cat,
Sam.
Heinz is survived by his daughter, Peggy (Mark) Keller of Plymouth; his son, Willi (Erin) Schafer
of Fort Wayne; his sisters: Marianne Ehnes of Great Falls, Mo. And Anneliese Grohmann of
Hamburg, Germany. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Matthew Keller and Anne Keller, both
of Plymouth.
The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Marshall County Humane
Society, P.O. Box 22, Plymouth, IN, 46563, or to the First United Church of Christ, 321 N. Center
St., Plymouth, IN, 46563.
