BREMEN — Josephine Richardson, 86, of Bremen, formerly of Mulberry, Kas., died Saturday,
May 3 at Bremen Health Care Center.
She is survived by a daughter, Leann Rowe of Bremen; a son, Larry Richardson of Bremen; a
granddaughter, Mandi Richardson of Bremen; a brother, Mario Rossilli of Lakewood, Calif.; three
nieces and two nephews.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, May 6 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen.
Funeral services will take place Wednesday, May 7 at 10 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church,
Bremen. Burial will follow at Bremen cemetery with full military rites.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospital of Bremen or Center for Hospice and Pallative
Care Inc., South Bend.

Francis L. Herr
NAPPANEE — Francis L. Herr, 86, of Nappanee, died Sunday, May 4 at 1: 37 a.m. at Goshen
General Hospital after an illness.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; two sons: Dean (Colleen) Herr of Wakarusa and Devon (Deb)
Herr of Nappanee; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, May 6 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Thompson-Lengacher &
Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
Funeral services will take place Wednesday, May 7 at 10: 30 a.m. at Union Center Church of the
Brethren with Rev. Jim Davis officiating.
Burial will follow at Union Center cemetery, Nappanee.
Memorials may be made to Union Center Church of the Brethren.

John P., Jr. Plante
CULVER — Mr. John P. Plante Jr, 76, of Culver, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2008 at 10: 24
p.m. at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
John was born Aug. 10, 1931 in Ora, one of six children to John and Ethel (Greer) Plante. He
attended Ora School and Knox High School.
John served in the US Marine Corps from 1950-1954. He participated in operations against
enemy forces in South and Central Korea, in which he received several medals for combat. He
entered the Navy Reserves in 1962, and served 27 years until his retirement in 1989. John was
very proud of his military service, and looked forward every year to attending his Marine Corps
Brotherhood and Survivors reunion of the How Co., 3rd Battalion, 7th Regiment, First Marine
Division, FMF Korea 1950-1953.
John worked for 42 years at Culver Academies as the Building Maintenance Supervisor, and
was a bus driver for athletic events and other school functions. He was a lifetime member of the
Finney-Shilling VFW Post 6919 of Culver and the Collins-Tasch American Legion Post 399 of
Monterey, and was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Maxinkuckee Lodge 373.
On May 9, 1953 he married Joyce E. Mikesell at the Mt. Hope Church, Culver. Their daughter
Gloria Diana was born on June 13, 1954. Their son, Wayne Michael was born on Jan. 26, 1957.
John is survived by his wife, Joyce of Culver; son, Wayne of Deland, Fla.; son-in-law Gary
Hinton of Culver; grandson, Peter (Kellie) Manzuk of Plymouth; granddaughter, Andrea Manzuk
of Phoenix, Ariz.; and grandson, David Plante of Elkhart. John had six great-grandchildren:
Matthew Manzuk of Plymouth, and Colin, Tyler, Regan, Blake, and Kendall Plante of Elkhart.
John is also survived by his sisters: Camilla (John) Brettin of Knox, Donna Hunnicutt of Ora, and
Betty (Richard) Brettin of Knox.
John was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Vern and Richard; and daughter, Gloria.
Services have been entrusted to the Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, Culver, where friends may
join the family in celebration John’s life on Monday, May 12, 2008 from 2 to 8 p.m. EDT. Rev.
Curtis Heydt will officiate funeral services of Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 10 a.m. EDT at the
Culver Academies Memorial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please consider contributions to one of the
following: Culver Community Christmas Fund, c/o Marlene Mahler - Union Township
Trustee, the Culver Food Pantry, c/o Pat Birk, or Hospice of Marshall County.

Marianna Sager
PLYMOUTH — Marianna Sager, a resident at Miller’s Merry Manor for the past 4 years, died,
following an extended illness, at 6: 41 a.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2008. She was one day shy of her
78th birthday.
Sager was born May 5, 1930, in Salamonia, a town in Jay County, Ind., the daughter of Lester
Leo and Gleda Faye (Stone) Bickel.
She was valedictorian of her 1948 graduating class of Portland (Ind.) High School.
On Oct. 2, 1948, at home in Jay County, Marianna and William Earl Sager, Jr. were married .
William died on Oct. 26, 1999.
Sager first worked at Montgomery Ward and then was payroll clerk at Teledyne Portland Forge
for 31 years, retiring in 1995.
She was adept at crafts, knitting and sewing. She played euchre and enjoyed boat trips.
Activities with her children and grandchildren were of her favorite things to do.
Sager was a member of the Salamonia United Church of Christ. She also was a member of
Beta Sigma Phi in Portland and a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Portland
American Legion, the Portland Lioness Club and the Elks Lodge.
She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl A. (Geoffrey) Scarberry, Plymouth, and their son, Adam; a
son, Edward L. (Madonna) Sager, Cleveland, Ga., and their children, Roberta, Brian, Jon and
Ginifer and by two foster daughters: Vivian “Beeb” Liverman, Lakewood, Colo., with children,
Brett and Josh and Joyce (Steve) Burt, Berne, Ind., and sons, Daniel and Chad; 14 great-grandchildren
and a brother-in-law, Gene Duke of Jay County.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Ruth Evelyn Duke.
Friends are invited to share memories and celebrate the life of Marianna Sager with her family at
the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, on Wednesday, May 7,
from 5 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services for Sager will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, 221 N. Meridian St., Portland, Ind., with visitation two hours prior to services. The Rev. Les Johnson of Plymouth will officiate.
Burial will be in the Green Park cemetery, Portland, Ind.
Memorial gifts in her memory may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation or the Center
for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. (Marshall County), 112 S. Center St., Plymouth, Indiana 46563.

Charles Eugene Hanes
Former resident of Bourbon and current resident of Edmond, Okla. died Monday, May 5, 2008 at
Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Charles Eugene Hanes was born April 18, 1922 in the family home in Elkhart, the oldest son of
Retha Waggoner Hanes and Arthur G. Hanes.
Mr. Hanes attended Elkhart School before moving to Marshall County and graduated from
Bourbon High School in the Class of 1940.
A devout Methodist, he was very active in his church and served in many offices. He was a
member of the Bremen Masonic Lodge #414 and the Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend. As an
Aerospace Engineer with Bendix Missile Corporation, he was involved with the research and
design of many missile systems throughout the years. He was also a member of the Bendix
Management Club where he served as treasurer.
Mr. Hanes was a World War II veteran. He enlisted under the Navy V-5 Cadet Program in July,
1942. He completed his training in August, 1943 at Pensacola Naval Air Station where he
received his Wings and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine
Corps. He was a dive bomber pilot and was carrier based in the Pacific Theater for 23 months.
He flew from the CV4 U.S.S. Ranger, The CVE 101 U.S.S. Matanikau and the CVE 113 U.S.S.
Puget Sound. He attained the rank of Captain.
On May 24, 1944, he was married to E. Kathleen Kirby Hanes in Laguna Beach, Calif. After
World War II, they returned to the Bourbon area where they purchased a farm and raised a
family of three children. Their children are Larry (Lynn) Hanes of South Carolina, Dr. Michael
(Madlyn) Hanes of Pennsylvania, and Patricia Hanes (Dr. Louis) Furmanski of Oklahoma. They
have 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hanes was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Evelyn, and his brothers Loren and Arthur G. Hanes.
A funeral service to celebrate Charles’ life will be held on Saturday, May 10 at 2 p.m. in the
Bourbon First United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Day officiating.
Burial will follow in the Sandridge cemetery at Bourbon with military honors.
Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangement.

Lois Ruth Hauser
AVON — Lois Ruth Hauser, 87, of Avon, formerly of Akron, died at 6: 58 p.m. Monday, May 5 at
St. Vincent Hospice, Indianapolis.
She is survived by a daughter, Susie McGuire of Avon; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;
and brothers: Paul (Nada) Miller of Jeffersonville and Don (Patsy) Miller of Frostbite, Fla.
Visitation is Thursday, May 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service Friday in the
Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester. Funeral services are Friday, May 9 at 10 a.m. at the
funeral home. Burial will be at the Akron cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hope Hospice of Fulton County.

James A., Jr. Patrohay
NORTH JUDSON — James A. “Jimmy” Patrohay Jr., 48, died Monday, May 5, 2008 in Knox.
Survivors include aunt, Orlean Allen of Knox; and uncles: Homer Smith of Union Mills, Edgar
Smith of Knox and Sam Barnett of Walkerton.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. CDT at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel.
Burial will be at the Round Lake cemetery, Knox. Visitation is at the funeral home Thursday after
10 a.m. CDT until the time of services

Dolores Juanita Comacho-Vaca
Dolores Juanita Camacho-Vaca, was stillborn Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Saint Joseph Regional
Medical Center, in Plymouth.
She is survived by her mother, Dolores Vaca and her father, Juan Camacho, both of Plymouth.
A Mass of Angels was prayed at Saint Michael Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10.
Burial was in Saint Michael Catholic cemetery, Plymouth.
Visitation was Friday, May 9 from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, is in charge of the arrangements.

Sister Olivia Marie Hutcheson
NOTRE DAME — Sister Olivia Marie Hutcheson, CSC, 90, former superior general of the
Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, died at 9: 25 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, at Saint Mary’s after an illness.
Funeral arrangements for Sister Olivia Marie are as follows: Reception of the body and wake on Sunday, May 11, at 4: 30 p.m.
The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday, May 12, at 10: 30 a.m.
All of these ceremonies will take place in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto at Saint Mary’s, Notre Dame.

Jane A. Robinson
PLYMOUTH – Jane A. Robinson, a Colonel in the United States Air Force, died at Walter Reed
Army Medical Center, May 6, 2008, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer.
Jane was 52-years old.
She had fought a long battle with cancer and, never gave up, even in her final days.
She was devoted to her career in the United States Air Force and to the mission of protecting
the United States of America.
She served at the National Reconnais-sance Organization, the Pentagon, the Los Angeles Air
Force Base, Hanscom Air Force Base, Lehigh University and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
Jane was a great co-worker and a mentor to other junior Air Force officers.
Her final duty was as Director of Financial Management and Resource Oversight to SIGINT.
She will be missed but never forgotten by the many friends and colleagues she leaves behind.
Her spirit will live on in their hearts.
Born July 3, 1955, in Logansport, she was the daughter of John Richard and Janet Ann Boyer Robinson.
Raised in Plymouth, she graduated from LaVille High School and from Purdue University in
1977, and 1979, with Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in aeronautical and astronomical engineering.
Upon graduation, Colonel Robinson attended the United States Air Force Officer Training School, earning her commission as a Second Lieutenant in 1980.
As a young officer, Colonel Robinson held a variety of air and space systems engineering and
acquisition positions. In 1993, she transitioned to the financial management career field,
distinguishing herself in assignments at Air Force Headquarters, the Joint Staff, and most recently, the National Reconnaissance Office.
Over the course of her 28-year Air Force career, Colonel Robinson was highly decorated,
earning the Defense Superior Service Medal, five Meritorious Service Medals and three
Commendation Medals. She also received numerous awards and distinctions for excellence in
financial and acquisition management.
She was a graduate of Air War College, Air Command and Staff College, Squadron Officer
School and earned a Masters of Business Administration degree in Systems R&D Management
from Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio.
In addition to her love of the Air Force, Jane had a great passion for animals, especially her cats:
Kitty-Boy and Apache. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was a person of impeccably
high character, demonstrating the utmost integrity at all times.
She was a loving daughter, sister and aunt and was fiercely loyal to her friends.
Jane is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Jennesse Robinson, nieces
Alexis, Cassandra, Christina, Cynthia and nephew, John, all of Huntsville, Ala., and by her
brother, James, of Plymouth, and other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A time of sharing with Jane’s family will be held Friday, May 16, in the Johnson-Danielson
Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services officiated by her brother Michael A. Robinson will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Oakhill cemetery, Plymouth Saturday, May 17. The Johnson-Danielson Funeral
Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., is in charge of local arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jane’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Humane Society.

Ann K. Rockwell
KOONTZ LAKE - Ann K. Rockwell, 86, died in her home Tuesday, May 6.
She is survived by: one daughter, Sharon (Jim) Ton of Chesterton; one son, Ronald (Raeann)
Rockwell of Valparaiso; one daughter-in-law, Jo (Michael) Hopkins of Portage; seven
grandchildren, James (Heather) Ton, Jeffrey Ton, Christopher, Jonathan and Jilliann Rockwell,
Jamie (Devin) Howard and James Ramirez and three great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Ava
Rockwell and Andrea Howard.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. CDT at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel.
Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. CDT and Saturday after 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Grovertown cemetery.
