Marie (Polson) McFaul
Marie (Polson) McFaul, 93, a resident of Bellingham, Wash. died on July 9, 2008 after a short illness.
Marie was born in Michigan City on March 30, 1915 to Ben H. and Callie (Bellman) Polson. The
family moved to Bremen in 1916, where she graduated from Bremen High School in 1933.
She graduated from South Bend Business College of Commerce. She was married Nov. 24,
1938 to Paul J. McFaul; he died in 1986. In 1955 the family moved to California, and after dad
died, she moved to Washington to be close to family.
Marie retired from General Motors Acceptance Corp. after 26 years as a secretary. She and dad
traveled extensively all over the world, and she worked for 12 years as a volunteer at the
Snohomish County Visitor’s Information Center.
Her parents, her brother Jim and her sister Helen, precede her in death. Her daughter and
husband, Barb and Rich Clearman of Everson, Wash., and a son Douglas J. McFaul of Las
Vegas, N.M. survive her. Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Lulu Polson of Bremen, and
numerous nieces and nephews.
She died the way she had lived, on her own terms, and in complete control until the end. Mom
was an inspiration to many, showing by example how to deal with the loss of vision that made
her life a challenge. She taught her family how to live, how to adapt to physical limitations and
finally, how to die with grace and dignity, and, as always, with a sense of humor. Her sense of
curiosity never waned, and she often asked family to look something up on the internet that
piqued her interest from something she had heard or read. She took advantage of every
available technology she could; she was an avid reader of Audio books, used her reader to read
cards and still used her computer for stories and notes. Mom loved to write, and in addition to
writing and self-publishing her “Musings by Marie”, she wrote a family history and had written
much about early life. In the last few weeks, she was working on telling her life story using songs
over the years that meant something to her, titled “I Did It My Way.
There will be no formal services; after cremation, her ashes will be scattered by family in the
Pacific Ocean, where she will take her final journey.
Donations may be given to the Marshall County Historical Society, 123 N. Michigan St.,
Plymouth, IN 46563. (574)-936-2306. Arrangements have been entrusted to Jerns-McKinney
Funeral Chapel in Blaine, Wash.
