David Conrad Jacobson
PLYMOUTH — David Conrad Jacobson, 68, of West 6B Road, Plymouth, Indiana, passed away
suddenly of natural causes, at his home, on Saturday morning, August 30, 2008.
Dave was a long time resident of Marshall County, spending most of that time on West 6B Road,
in Polk Township where he farmed, raised four sons and entertained eight grandchildren, taking
each on their “first” tractor ride.
On August 21, 1940, Dave was born to Toby and Winifred (Schultz) Jacobson, in Plymouth. He
was a 1958 graduate of Tyner High School, in Tyner, where he excelled in basketball and
developed a love of all things related to farming.
After high school, he volunteered for four years in the United States Air Force and was stationed
at the Great Falls andGlasgow, Montana, Strategic Air Command Bases.
The latter stop is where he met his “soon to be wife”, Jayne, at the Fort Peck Dam Beach. A year
and a half later, on August 19, 1962, they were married and moved back to Polk Township, with
all of their belongings stuffed into a 1955 Ford sedan.
In 1962, Dave went to work for Pacific Hawaiian Punch (which later became RJR Nabisco)
hauling food products to and from each coast. He enjoyed the freedom of the open road so
much, that after his first retirement (35 years later), he started two new truck driving jobs forJevic
Trucking and JKR and retired two more times!! Additionally, he loved to travel with his family,
mostly by car, “…..for you could see more of this beautiful country by car, and meet the most
interesting people, ” he would say. He was proud to have visited 49 of the 50 states (the lower 48
all by driving)—Alaska was the only state to escape him. His love of farming led him to antique
tractor collecting. You could often see Dave, at farm and equipment auctions, laughing with new
and old friends, but never taking his eye off the auctioneer, for he didn’t want to miss out on his
next tractor treasure.
In 1969 Dave and Jayne bought their first farm, raised a family, and generated endless happy
memories. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Tyner OddfellowLodge,
where he loved a good game of pinochle.
Surviving Dave is his wife, Jayne of 46 years; their four sons, Mark (age 43) and Valerie living in
Denver, Colorado, Tod (age 41) and Theresa residing in Plymouth with their family, Kevin (age
38) living in Walkerton, and Hoa (age 38) and Chanret Pung living in Holland, Mich. with their
family; eight grandchildren, David, Cody, Chloe, Julia, Cole, Jacob, Kaleb, and Aaron; his two
sisters, Sue Fontanes of Plymouth and Marilyn and Alan Grobe of Portland, Ore.; and countless
friends.
He loved his family and friends and we return that love and will never forget him.
A time of sharing and visiting with the family will be on Thursday, September 4, 2008, from 4 to 7
p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, IN, 46563.
