NORTH JUDSON — Brian Gilbert Williamson was stillborn Friday, Oct. 17, 2008 at Saint Joseph
Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
Survivors include: parents, Jessica Tolson of North Judson and Brian Williamson of Plymouth;
grandparents: Anna Campbell of North Judson and Wilgus R. (Kim) Tolson of Monterey and
Doug and Mary Workman of Bourbon; great-grandparents: Dexter Howard of Jackson, Ky.,
Wilgus Tolson of North Judson and Ray Williamson of Atwood.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 22 from 10: 30 a.m.to noon Central Time at Rannells Funeral
Home, Hamlet Chapel. A private family graveside service will follow.

Cynthia M. Carlson
PLYMOUTH — Cynthia Carlson, 60, of 912 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, passed away Saturday,
Oct. 18, 2008, at 6: 10 a.m., at Saint Joseph Regional Medical, South Bend.
Cynthia was born, in Plymouth, on Oct. 16, 1948, to George and Teresa (Hartman) Lemar. On
Jan. 12, 1985, Cynthia and John Carlson were married at the Plymouth Wesleyan Church.
Cindee was a member of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W.
in Culver. She had worked at the Culver Academies in the computer department and had been a
child care provider.
Cindee is survived by her husband, John Carlson; her daughters: Stephanie Lynn (Randy)
Schoolman of Plymouth, Jennifer (Brad) Hoop of Indianapolis, Julie (Gabe) Blissmer of
Plymouth; her sons: Cristian Lemar (Amy) May of Plymouth and Jerry (Stephanie) Carlson of
Kouts; her sister, Anna (Don) Neher of Culver; her brothers: David (Marilyn) Lemar of
Washington and Jerry Lemar of Florida. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, at 11 a.m., at the Plymouth Wesleyan
Church, 11203 S. Michigan Rd., Plymouth, IN, 46563, with the Rev. John Branch officiating.
A time of visiting, with the Carlson Family, will be Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, from 2 to 7 p.m., at
the VAN GILDER FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, IN 46563, and from 10 to
11 a.m. at the Church on Wednesday, prior to the funeral. The Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W.
will hold a service at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, in the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Swedish cemetery, Donaldson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Plymouth Wesleyan Church.

Buel D. Wheeler
PLYMOUTH – Buel D. Wheeler, 84, of 805 Baker St., Plymouth, died in Pilgrim Manor, of
natural causes, at 1 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008.
Born in Woodburn, Ky., on April 6, 1924, Buel was the son of John E. and Zula Wheeler.
He attended school until the 8th grade.
On April 17, 1945, in the Pine Creek Church of the Brethren, Buel and Martha Hoover were
married . Martha died on Jan. 7, 1986.
Most of his life Buel was a mason worker. He was always known as a conscientious and
extremely hard worker. He retired in 1986, from the Whiteford Truck Line, South Bend.
He was a NASCAR fan, rooting on Mark Martin. He loved horses and often traveled to horse
shows on the weekends with his son David.
He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Moose Family Lodge and the Sheriff’s Posse.
Buel is survived by a son and two daughters. They are: David B. (Cindy) Wheeler, South Bend:
Joy (Wayne) Williams, Syracuse, and Joan (Robert) Servis, Plymouth.
Thirteen grandchildren also survive. They are: David’s children: Matthew, Stephen and Angela
Wheeler. Joy’s children are: Amanda Hostetler, Tim Hostetler and James Williams. Also Joan’s
family includes Jennifer Hoop, Julie Blissmer and Jerry Carlson. Jean’s children are: Donald,
Jimmy, Scott and Todd Boocher.
Several great-grandchildren survive as well.
A sister, Beatrice Perry of Tennessee, and companion of 20 years, Mary Kloenne, survive as well.
Buel was preceded in death by his parents, Martha, his spouse, a daughter, Jean Boocher and
two brothers, John B. and James C. Wheeler
Friends are invited to celebrate the life of Buel Wheeler with his family from 4 to 7 p.m. on
Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services, officiated by Ben Norton, will take place in the funeral home at 7 p.m. after
visitation on Wednesday evening.
Burial will be in New Oakhill cemetery.
Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Association.

Sheryl L. Goetz
GROVERTOWN — Sheryl L. Goetz, 70, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008 at home.
She is survived by her husband, Fred Goetz; daughters: Mary Ellen (Roger) Pendowski of Kouts,
Kari (Doug) Romine of LaCrosse and Kelly (Rod) Schroeder of Bremen; two sons: Fred (Lisa)
Goetz Jr. of Kouts and James (Lynn) Goetz of Highland; 11 grandchildren; a sister, Patricia
Macknick of Illinois; and brothers: Steve Hayward and Michael Hayward, both of Illinois.
Services will be Thursday, Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. Central Time at Holy Cross Church of Hamlet.
Burial will be at Sacred Heart cemetery, Wanatah. Visitation is Wednesday, Oct. 22 from 4 to 8
p.m. CDT and Thursday from 9 to 9: 30 a.m. at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel, where a
rosary service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be given to Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network, 660 N.
Industrial Dr., Elmhurst, IL 60126-1520.

Ruth A. Karn
DELONG — Ruth A. Karn, 70, of Delong, died at 10: 25 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008 at home.
She is survived by sons: Shawn Rodriguez of Gulfport, Fla., Ramon (Cheryl) Rodriguez of Rock
Springs, Wyo., Joe (Beth) Rodriguez of Leiters Ford, Dean Rodriguez of Missouri, Jay Gragg of
Wyoming, Roy (Patty) Gragg of Roseland, William (Diane) Karn of South Bend and Cecil Karn of
Niles, Mich.; daughters: Helen (Barnard) Bell of Delong and Melody Gragg of Missouri; 16
grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Wednesday, Oct. 22 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Delong Gospel Lighthouse Church. Funeral
services are Thursday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m at the church. Burial will be at Leiters Ford IOOF
cemetery.
The Bonine-Odom Funeral Home, Culver, is in charge of arrangements.

Ronald L. Sowers
Ronald L. Sowers, 70, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2008 in Bremen. He was born in Dover, Mo., and
was an attorney for 30 years. He attended the University of Notre Dame and received a Bachelor
of Arts degree and Juris Doctor Degree in 1969. He served in the United States Marine Corps
and was a retired reserved officer achieving the rank of Colonel. Ron served throughout the
world in the Sixth Fleet aboard all vessels from small landing craft to the USS Eisenhower.
He was a skilled practicing trial attorney and concentrated his practice in complex and
catastrophic civil cases with an emphasis on medical negligence litigation. He was admitted to
practice in Indiana before both federal and state courts, including the United States Supreme
Court. He was a member of the Allen County Bar Association, Indiana State Bar Association,
Marshall County Bar Association, St. Joseph County Bar Association, Elkhart County Bar
Association, the Allen County Trial Lawyers Association, the American Judicature Society, the
American Board of Trial Advocates, and multiple other distinguished legal organizations.
Ron was a frequent lecturer and made presentations to the American Board of Trial Advocates
Masters in Trial program. Ron was tireless in his devotion to the legal profession that he so
cherished and to his beloved University of Notre Dame and United States Marine Corps. Ron’s
legal experience included his 30 plus years of practice in Fort Wayne where he was the senior
partner of Sowers and Associates. He tried civil damage cases in state and federal courts
throughout the United States and enjoyed an association with numerous trial lawyers in multiple
states and counties throughout Indiana.
In 2005 he became a senior partner in Sowers, Newcomb and Associates in Bremen, where he
continued his litigation practice until his death. In addition to his many accomplishments as a trial
lawyer, Ron had extensive maritime training and education.
He was a graduate of the Chapman School of Seamanship and operated a family business in
Naples, Fla. that engaged in vessel management services. His maritime experience included the
Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Chesapeake Bay, Gulf of Mexico and multiple other
waterways and courses. He was a skilled seaman that included a wide range of vessels and
extensive experience in piloting, navigation, electronics, and weather. He was a former member
of the American Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, the Society of Accredited
Marine Surveyors, American Society of Naval Engineers and held United States Coast Guard
certification in all major amphibian systems.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela Sowers of Plymouth; daughters: Julie (Alex) Palomares of
Colorado Springs, Colo., Jennifer (Sam) Shaus of Ruther Glenn, Va., Jill (Anthony) Bonnett of
Sheboygan, Wis.; step-daughter, Deborah (Ryan) Gobiel of Naples, Fla.a; grandchildren:
Amelia, David and Amanda Palomares, Nicholas DeRidder, Christopher & William Bonnett,
Whitney & Emily Gobiel; sister, Kiddy Chloe Johnson of Seattle, Wash.; cousin, Linda (George)
Giblin.
Visitation hours are 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls
Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road with burial in Arlington National cemetery, Arlington, Va. at
a later date.

Betty M. (Slagle) Coleman
PLYMOUTH – Betty M. (Slagle) Coleman, 84, a former resident of Carriage Green Apts,
Plymouth, died of natural causes at 5: 02 a.m. Monday morning in Saint Joseph Regional
Medical Center, Plymouth. She lived in Marshall County almost 70 years, coming from Valparaiso.
Betty was born the daughter of Harry and Ida Mae (Horak) Slagle in Valparaiso, on Dec. 18,
1923 and attended Valparaiso High School.
On Feb. 12, 1944, in Huntsville, Ala., Betty and LeRoy A. Coleman were married . LeRoy died on
March 13, 1972.
Betty worked as a torque tube cutter for Hehr International for 17 years, retiring in 1987.
She enjoyed playing Bingo and euchre. She collected ceramic pigs and was adept at working
crossword puzzles.
Through the years, Betty became “Nana” to the many, many children that she babysat. Even
recently, on occasion, little ones would come to stay with her. Derrick Beatty especially loved
staying at “Nana’s.” He was a terrific help to her as she got older and wasn’t able to get around
very well.
She also enjoyed her police scanner and playing “detective.” She was the very first tenant to
rent an apartment at Carriage Green and although she just recently changed addresses, the
children there really enjoyed stopping by to help her out.
Betty is survived by two daughters and a son. They are Deborah (Les) Booker of Bremen and
Dorothy (Jon) Hawkins, of Plymouth, and Charles “Buck” Coleman and fiancée, Barb of LaPaz.
Her grandchildren include: Angela Joseph, Chad Booker, Cory Hawkins, Shelle (Christian) Sepe,
Tony Coleman, Tracy (Sheldon) O’Connor and Angie Beatty. Seventeen great-grandchildren
survive as well.
Surviving as well are a brother, Frank (Eunice) Slagle and a sister, Ida Mae Montague, both of
Valparaiso, with several nephews and nieces and many dear friends and former neighbors who
will miss her.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, Doug and Dennis and a
daughter, Charlene.
Friends are invited to celebrate the life of Betty Coleman on Wednesday, Oct. 22 from 4 to 8
p.m. EDT in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St. Plymouth and continue
after 7 a.m. on Thursday until time of services at 11 a.m. EDT. The Reverends Bob Rice and
James Archambeault will officiate.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. EDT in the Oak Grove cemetery located west of
LaCrosse on County Road 1100.
Memorial gifts may be made to the St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital or the Marshall County
Humane Society.

Mary A. Holewinski
BREMEN — Mary A. Holewinski, 86, of Bremen, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2008 at Community
Hospital of Bremen.
She is survived by her husband, Erwin Holewinski of Bremen; sons: Erwin “Bud” (Brenda)
Holewinski Jr. of Elkhart and Dennis Holewinski of Lakeville; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Visitation is Thursday, Oct. 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen. Funeral
services are Friday, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Bremen
cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the organization of one’s choice.

Millicent Hall Kelley
Millicent Hall Kelley, 96, of Massillon, Ohio, formerly of Bremen, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at
Rose Lane Health Center in Massillon, Ohio.
She is survived by daughters: Patsy Kelley of McCall, Idaho and Dixie Beck of Clinton, Ohio; three
grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Stewart Hall of Plymouth.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 at Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen. Burial will
take place at St. Paul’s cemetery in Woodland. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24 and
one hour before the service Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Bremen.

David Lee Scott
WALKERTON — David Lee Scott, 60, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2008 at 6: 15 p.m. in LaPorte Hospital.
He is survived by a daughter, Gina (Butch) Petty of Plainfield; a son, Nathan (Aubrie) Divine Scott
of Madison, Wis.; his partner, Annette Goforth of Walkerton; brother, Jerry (June) Scott of
Sargent, Texas; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. Eastern Time at Rannells Funeral Home,
Koontz Lake Chapel. Burial will be at the Woodlawn cemetery, Walkerton, where military
graveside services will be conducted. Visitation is Wednesday, Oct. 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. EDT and
Thursday from 11 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.

Stanley D. Teel
ROCHESTER — Stanley D. Teel, 89, of Rochester, died at 6: 06 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2008 at home.
He is survived by daughters: Cozetta (Richard) Piper of Rochester and Cynthia (Terry) Bowers
of Antwerp, Ohio; five grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Wednesday, Oct. 22 from 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services Thursday at the
Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester. Funeral services are Thursday, Oct. 23 at 10 a.m. at
the funeral home. Burial will be at the Rochester IOOF cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or to Hope Hospice of Fulton County.
