Earl Frederick Beron
NAPPANEE — Earl Frederick Beron, 85, of Nappanee, went to his heavenly home at 5: 30 a.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008 at Hubbard Hill Estates, Elkhart.
A long-time resident of Lakeville, Earl was born Aug. 5, 1923 in South Bend to the late Fredrick
Lewis and Ida L. (Kaser) Beron. He is survived by his wife Inez, and his children: Sharon (Jon)
Bohannon of Bremen, Terrie (Larry) Gates of Warsaw, Frederic (Kris) Beron of Plymouth,
Marsha (Randy) Sime of Bremen, Anita (Ken) McGuire of Pacific, Mo.; Bruce (Barbara) Beron of
Elkhart; and a son-in-law, Errett Hicks of South Bend. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, and
17 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Beron was preceded in death by his daughter Karen Sue Hicks on May 31, 2005, and
sisters: Bernice (Harold) Goodling and Marie (George) Hively.
Earl grew up in North Liberty, graduating from North Liberty High School in 1941. On Dec. 24,
1943, he married Inez Rensberger at St. John’s Lutheran Church, North Liberty. In 1950, he
built the family home on Riley Road, Lakeville, and remained there until 2006.
During WWII, Earl joined the United States Army, was trained in the infantry and transferred to
the Air Force serving in Headquarters Squadron on Okinawa, Japan, in the Far Eastern Air
Service Command until the war ended, in August 1946.
Prior to his service, he was a farmer. With the housing boom after the war, he learned carpentry
and eventually developed his own successful building contractor business—Beron Construction –
constructing many new residential homes, commercial and farm buildings in the area, until his
retirement in 1990. In semi-retirement, he enjoyed working for the Vincent Raymond family at
Distributors, Inc. wholesale book distributors, until about 2004.
Dad found joy with family, especially when all were gathered for holidays and special occasions.
In his earlier retirement years, he was content to putter in his personal woodwork shop where he
crafted small pieces, such as nativity mangers and other small items from a variety of wood
scraps.
Our thanks to the staffs at Heritage House, Nappanee; Elkhart General Hospital and Hubbard
Hill Nursing Home, as well as Hospice from Goshen Health Center, for their empathy and care
during Earl’s last days with us.
Services were held Friday, Oct. 24, 2008 at Lakeville Baptist Church. Rev. Vito Rulli officiated.
