William J. Carey, 82, North Manchester, IN died Sunday, April 9, 2006 at 2: 09 a.m. in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. He was born August 3, 1923 in Huntington County, Indiana to Ira and Evelyn (Hildebrand) Carey. In September of 1976 he married Isabelle Snow Beck. He was owner and operator of W.J. Carey Construction Co., South Whitley, IN for over 25 years, retiring in 1984. He graduated Huntington Township High School in 1941 and attended Huntington College. He was a member of the Collamer Christian Church. Surviving are his wife, Isabelle Carey, North Manchester, IN. His mother, Evelyn Herzog, Huntington, IN. One son, Tony (Chris) Carey, Marion, IN; two daughters, Pamela Croyle, Paso Robles, CA and Lisa (Mark) Satterfield, San Miguel, CA. A daughter-in-law, Margie Carey, Ft. Wayne, IN. A step-son, James (Sally) Beck, Grayling, FL and a ste-daughter, Jamie Gail (Brian) Kinner, Claypool, IN. Two sisters, Barbara Kline, Huntington, IN and Carolyn (Jerry) Waikel, Laramie, WY. 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. One son, Michael Carey died in 1991. Curtis G. Shoemaker, 67, Wabash, IN died at 6: 46 a.m. April 8, 2006 at his residence. He was born in Wabash, Indiana on March 15, 1939 to Curtis E. and Carrie E. (Hapner) Shoemaker. On November 23, 1983 he married Tanya Stellar, who survives. He retired after 35 years at US Gypsum, Wabash, IN and was a member of the Eagles Lodge, American Legion, Moose Family Home and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 286, all of Wabash. He was a US Army veteran. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Terry (Janna) Drabenstot, Wabash, IN / One adopted daughter, Kimberly Easterday, Peru, IN / One brother, Dennis (Patricia) Shoemaker, Wabash, IN / one sister, Charlene Tudor, Wabash, IN / Grandchild, Maya Rayne Drabenstot, Wabash, IN and adopted grandchildren, Kristin Michelle McNear and Daniel Ray McNear. JERRY L. GARBER, 69, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN
Jerry L. Garber, 69, North Manchester, IN died at 8: 19 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2006 at the Indiana Bone Marrow Transplant Center in St. Francis Hospital, Beech Grove, IN. He was born August 12, 1936 in Wabash County, Indiana to Blaine F. and Effie (Amberg) Garber. On November 29, 1958 in Cleveland, Ohio he married Barbara "Bickey" Myers. She survives. A farmer, he owned semi-trucks and hauled livestock for 20 years. He served as maintenance director at Timbercrest Retirement Community in North Manchester, IN for 19 years and delivered camper trailers until the time of his illness. He was a member of the Liberty Mills Church of the Brethtren where he served as chairman of the trustees, member of the church board and a lifetime deacon. Jerry attended Laketon High School, served in the US Army during Korea and was a member of the American Legion Post # 286, North Manchester, IN. Also surviving are one son, Scott (Lorry) Garber, Claypool, IN ; two daughters, Julie (Kevin) McKay, Columbia City, IN and Melissa (Kevin) Shorter, North Manchester, IN. Five grandchildren; Rachel (Tony) Kelman, South Bend, IN / Tasha Garber, Fort Wayne, IN / Stephanie Smith, Columbia City, IN / Emily and Zachary Shorter, North Manchester, IN. One brother, Earl (Dee) Garber, Mesa, AZ. Three sisters, Mrs. John (Wanda) Trout, Ft. He was a 1973 Whitko High School graduate and worked for the railroad for 14 years. He was a member of Vinyard Community Church, Syracuse, IN. On May 2, 1992 he married Carol Senart. She survives. Otto Wright, 76, Groveland, FL formerly of Silver Lake, IN, died at 12: 29 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at Oak Park Assisted Living Center, Clermont, FL. He was born March 20, 1930 in Silver Lake, IN to Ed & Bertha (Allen) Wright, both deceased. He was a US Navy veteran and Real Estate Broker. Mr. Wright was a member of and instrumental in establishing the Groveland, FL Lion's Club and a member of Oak Tree Community Church. He married Jerlyn E. Ramsey in 1949. She died September 27, 1980. He is survived by two sons, Daniel E. (Marsha) Wright, Lomita, CA and Timothy D. (Debra) Wright, Deltona, FL, two daughters, Debra L. Ralabate, Clermont, FL and Melinda M. Russell E. Estep, 87, North Manchester, IN died at 6: 45 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 7, 1921 in Blaine, KY to Jay & Myrtle (Day) Estep, both deceased. On May 31, 1947 he married Maxine Kelley. She survives. He was a masonary contractor with Bricklayers Local 7 for over 50 years. He served in the Pacific with Marine Corp Raiders during WWII receiving a Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of VFW American Legion and National Rifle Association. In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter, Sheila Karen (Kernie) Rowe, North Manchester, IN, his beloved grandson, Kyle Russell Rowe, Mishawaka, IN, Five sisters, Ida (James) McCarty, Albany, KY, Naomi (Chester) Stevens, Bellville, OH, Sue (Andy) Stewart, Marion, OH, Audrey Neil, Florida, and Dolly (Elwood) Daniels, Ashland, KY, a very special niece, Patty Estep, and a lot of loving nieces and nephews. She was born in Huntington County, IN on September 28, 1915 to Christian and Sophia (Kimpel) Ludwig. On April 23, 1935 she married Edson W. Carroll. He died January 12, 2004. She was a homemaker and farm wife having lived on the same farm east of Urbana for 65 years. She was a member of the St. Robert's Catholic Church, North Manchester, IN. She returned to North Manchester in 2005. Also surviving are one son; Gary (Mary Ann) Hare, Houston, TX; four daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Joan) Luckenbill, Sarasota, FL / Mrs. Charles (Becky) Evans, Indianapolis, IN / Lois Stanger, North Manchester, IN / Mrs. Richard (Janet) Clark, Bradenton, FL. 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
