He was born June 7, 1925 in Wabash County, IN to Ernest & Amelia (Rickert) Wilcox. He attended Lagro High School. He was a self employed farmer for 65 years and a salesman for DeKalb Seed for 50 years. Marvia attended Missionary Church, North Manchester, IN and was a member of Farm Bureau. He enjoyed raising horses and horse racing, hunting in Wyoming and travel. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren. On April 6, 1947 he married Norma Hoover. She survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Mark (Judy) Wilcox, Silver Lake, IN, Rodney (Jill) Wilcox, North Manchester, IN and Scott (Kim) Wilcox, Urbana, IN; One daughter, Mrs. Duane (Jane) Zentz, Bourbon, IN; three brothers, Garland Wilcox, North Manchester, IN, Ernest Junior (Betty) Wilcox, North Manchester, IN and Joe (Mary Lou) Wilcox, Urbana, IN; one sister, Ruby Swihart, Roann, IN; fifteen grandchildren and ten great grandchilren. He died December 28, 1993. She worked at Heckman Bindery for 15 years and Fort Wayne News Sentinel for 13 years. She was a member of Akron Church of God, Akron, IN and had been a resident of Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, for 14 years. Geraldine M. "Jeri" Schneider Nordman, 79, North Manchester, IN died at 4: 00 p.m. Monday March 2, 2009 at the home of her daughter in Warsaw, IN. She was born November 13, 1929 in Kosciusko County, IN to Cecil H. Sr. & Lydia L. (Norton) Huntley. On August 15, 1947 she married Claude "Bud" Schneider. She then married Jack J. Nordman February 14, 1969. He died April 3, 2004. She was employed for 22 years at Sunnyside Farm and Hi-Grade plant retiring in 1993. She is survived by six sons, Claude Eugene Schneider, Madison, IN; James (Pat) Schneider, North Manchester, IN; Gery (Vickie) Schneider, Fort Wayne, IN; David Schneider, Peculiar, MO; Michael Schneider, Liberty Mills, IN and Eric S. Nordman, North Manchester, IN; one daughter, Linda (David) Holler, Warsaw, IN; two sisters, Dorothy Bressler, Fort Wayne, IN and Carla Thompson, Two Harbors, MN; fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Barbara Ruth Sands, 89, North Manchester, IN died at 10: 35 p.m. Saturday, February 28, 2009 in Parkview Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN. She was born in Shelbyville, Illinois to Roy E. & Flossie A. (Rose) Runkel. On September 25, 1939 she married Richard O. Sands. He died May 4, 1976. Surviving are a son, Rick Sands, Bella Vista, AR and three daughters, Mrs. Phil (Linda) Frantz, Portland, IN; Sally Welborn, North Manchester, IN and Sandra Mitting, Wabash, IN. Five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Bill (Jeanne) Runkel and Richard (Carolyn) Runkel, both of North Manchester, IN. One brother and one sister are deceased. She was a homemaker, 1937 graduate of Chester High School, and a collector of rocks and shells. She enjoyed her family and friends and loved to garden. M. Irene Beery, 93, North Manchester, IN died at 6: 15 a.m. Thursday, February 19, 2009 in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. She was born August 13, 1915 in Chester Township, Wabash County, IN to William & Elizabeth (Grist) Pottenger. On October 28, 1934 she she married Donald W. "Dee" Beery. He died July 23, 2004. She graduated from Chester High School in 1933. She was a homemaker and worked at Manchester College in food service. Irene served as a 4-H leader for many years and was an avid golfer, receiving awards for her 2 holes-in-one which occurred 12 years apart but on the same hole. She was active at Timbercrest Senior Living Community and served on the food committee for many years and worked in the gift shop. She is survived by one son, Dewayne (Cindy) Beery, Buffalo, NY; four grandchildren, Susan H. Beery, Williamsport, PA, Matthew Doudt, Noblesville, IN, Sarah Diaz, State College, PA and Heidi Ramer, Kendallville, IN; one sister, Willodean (Gerald) Swank, Fort Wayne, IN and ten great grandchildren. Zola A. Miller, 90, North Manchester, IN died 12: 50 a.m. Sunday, February 8, 2009 in Timbercrest Healthcare Center. She was born at Altoona, PA on August 5, 1918 to William & Mary Mae (Nelson) Simpson. On June 29, 1946 she married Rev. L. Byron Miller. He survives. Also surviving are two sons; Julian Miller, Bluffton, IN and Stanley (Linda) Miller, North Manchester, IN. Three daughters, Rowena (Darrel) Fourman, Fayetteville, GA ; Anita Miller, North Manchester, IN ; Lillian Long, Philippi, WV. One brother, Olin Simpson, Lititz, PA. Eight grandchildren, Brian (Kim) Fourman, Fayetteville, GA ; Heather (Anthony) Zias, Baltimore, MD ; Jordan Long and Kiersten Long, both of Philippi, WV ; Nelson Long, Washington, D.C. ; Emily Weikert, Troy, OH ; Cohen Marvel and Alysaa Marvel, both of North Manchester, IN. Four great-grandchildren, Kelly, Matthew, Hannah and Andrew Fourman, all of Fayetteville, GA. Five brothers are deceased, Dalbert, Melvin, Nelson, Loren and Wayne Simpson. One sister is deceased, Velma Fletcher. Zola graduated from Altoona (PA) High School in 1936. She attended Bible Training School at Bethany Seminary from 1941-1943. She graduated from Bridgewater College with a BA degree in 1945 and earned her Masters in Education from Ball State University in 1968. She taught elementary school for 16 years in Cambridge City, IN and Akron, OH. She was a member of the Manchester Church of the Brethren and Ohio State Teachers Association. Surviving are a son, Bob Bechtold, North Manchester and a daughter, Kay Eads, Wabash, IN. Four grandchildren, Bret (Michelle) Bechtold, Beth (David) Wampler, both of North Manchester. DR. PAUL A. EILER, 78, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN
Dr. Paul A. Eiler, 78, North Manchester, IN died at 6: 14 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2009 in Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne. He was born January 8, 1931 in Nampa, ID to Austin & Edna (Betts) Eiler. On August 30, 1953 he married Alma Morningstar. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Gary (Randa) Eiler, West Lafayette, IN; two daughters, Beth (Scott) Bolman, Lincolnshire, IL and Karen (Mike Sturgeon) Eiler, North Manchester, IN. A sister, Anne McKellip, Nampa, ID. Eight grandchildren. One brother and one siter are deceased. Dr. Eiler graduated from Nampa (ID) High School in 1949, Manchester College with a BA in 1953, and the University of Michigan Medical School in 1960. He did his intern training at McLaren Hospital, Flint, MI. He was co-founder of Manchester Clinic with the late Dr. Lloyd Smith, where he practiced medicine for the next 36 years. He was on the staff of Wabash County Hospital, a member of Indiana Medical Association and Wabash County Medical Society. He served on the 5 County Mental Health Board. A member of First Brethren Church, he sang with the choir and served as Sunday School teacher and Deacon. He enjoyed photography and had a love of animals and nature. She was born at North Manchester on November 6, 1921 to Floyd D. & Laura E. (Gall) Bashore. She was an inspector at Magnavox Corp., Ft. Wayne for 40 years retiring in 1983. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Two brothers and one sister are deceased. Madeline was a 1939 graduate of Central High School and a member of the Lincolnshire Church of the Brethren, Ft. RALPH P. CHAPMAN, 87, NORTH MANCHESTER, IN
Ralph P. Chapman, 87, North Manchester, IN died at 6: 35 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2009 in Peabody Healthcare Center. He was born September 27, 1921 at Bonaqua, TN to Russell & Clara (Pluimer) Chapman. On July 11, 1942 he married Betty Barr. She died October 25, 2008. Surviving are a son, Bruce Chapman (and companion Phillip Addario) Westport, Connecticut and a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Susan) Greer, North Manchester, IN. Two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister are deceased. He was a self-employed farmer for many years. He was employed with Bourbon Creamery for six years and the Laketon Creamery for fourteen years until it's closing. Later he worked for Endicott Church Furniture Co., Warsaw, IN retiring in 1984. Ralph served with the U.S. Army from 1942-1945 and was a Tech Sergeant in Patton's 3rd Army, 80th Division. He received two Purple Hearts for injury in service, one with Oak Leaf Cluster. He also received the EAME Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Stars. He was a life member of the American Legion Post # 402, Laketon, IN, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. A member of Congregational Christian Church, he enjoyed refinishing furniture, woodworking and caning chairs. SERVICES WILL BE HELD MONDAY, JANUARY 19, 2009 AT 1: 00 P.M. IN PEABODY CHAPEL, 400 W. Eldon J. Sincroft, 87, North Manchester, IN died at 4: 32 a.m. Sunday, January 11, 2009 in Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN. He was born August 2, 1921 in North Manchester to Harley & Ethel (Cover) Sincroft. On December 20, 1941 he married Marjorie L. Lautzenhiser. She survives. Also surviving are three sosns, William (Coleena) Sincroft, Leesburg, IN; Ronald Sincroft, North Manchester, IN and John "Randy" (Marie) Sincroft, Warsaw, IN. Two daughters, Nancy (Bob) Friddle, Warsaw, IN and Sherri (Bill) Trick, Tuscaloosa, AL. Twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. One grandchild, one brother and one sister are deceased. Also surviving is a sister, Norma Jeanne (DeWayne) Monce, North Manchester. He was a 1939 grandaute of Central High School and attended Manchester College. After marriage Eldon worked at the former Studebaker Aviation in Fort Wayne. Later he was a salesman for the former National Mill Supply Co. at Fort Wayne, Manchester Foundry, North Manchester and Abresist Corp, at Urbana, IN. Ronald Morris, Wagoner, OK; Charles Morris, Colfax, CA; Kenneth Morris, Jeannette, PA; Larry Morris, New Jersey; David Morris, Pollock Pines, CA. Two daughters, Lousie Morris, Kona, HI and Karen Morris-Huffman, Ripon, CA. A brother, Leo Morris, Hendersonville, NC and a sister, Irene Morris-Ott, Churubusco, IN. Twenty grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One son is deceased. Arden graduated from South Whitley High School in 1946 and received a B.A. degree in sociology from Manchester College. He was a social worker for the Pennsylvania State Welfare Office for 20 years and later for the Oklahoma State Welfare Office for 10 years until his retirement in 1992.
