Teresa A. Holland
FRANKTON-Teresa Ann Holland, 48, a former Frankton resident died Thursday in Community Hospital after an extended illness.
Teresa was born in Anderson on Dec. 5, 1956 and was the daughter of Woodrow and Anna (Grissom) Cooper. Teresa was a homemaker and attended the Vermillion Friends Church.
Surviving is her son, Jimmie R. Holland, Jr.-Alexandria, her Father and Step-Mother, Woodrow and Viola Cooper; a brother, James (Phyllis) Cooper-Alexandria; two sisters, Evelyn (Roger) Niccum and Imogene Tays both of Anderson; her former husband Jim Holland-Alexandria and one grandson, Caleb Holland.
Her Mother, Anna Cooper and a sister, Hazel Hutchison, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be Monday, at 11:00 a.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 S. Park Ave., Alexandria with Rev. Harrison Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Vinson Memorial Park Cemetery, Summitville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Mary Lucille Downey
ALEXANDRIA- Mary Lucille Downey, 88, of Alexandria died Friday, May 25, 2007 in Community Hospital, Anderson after a brief illness.
Mary was born in Alexandria on Nov. 22, 1918 and was the daughter of Joseph and Edith (Kimm) Auler. She later married James F. Downey who preceded her in death.
For several years Mary was a self-employed hairdresser and later retired form St. Vincent-Mercy Hospital in Elwood as a nurse’s aid.
Mary was a member of the Church of St Mary, Daughters of Isabelle and the Senior Gild.
Mary is survived by several Nieces and Nephews, Great Nieces and Nephews and also a Great-Great Niece and Nephew. Also surviving is a foster son Ralph (Jill) Miller.
A Foster Daughter, Linda Briner, her Parents, 2 Sisters, Hester New, Luella Bess; two Brothers, Russell Auler, Keith Auler preceded Mary in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday in the Church of St. Mary, Alexandria with Fr. Paul Cochran as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Vinson Memorial Park Cemetery, Summitville. Friends may call at Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Rosary Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jean Elizabeth Wilson
ALEXANDRIA - Jean Elizabeth Wilson, 83, of Alexandria died Saturday in Alexandria Care Center after an extended illness.
Jean was born in Elwood on Oct. 13, 1923 and was the daughter of Ora and Cleo (Dellinger) Martin. She married Robert L. Wilson who preceded her in death in 1993.
Along with her Husband she was the co-owner of B& J Manufacturing Co. of Wooden Toys in Elwood.
Jean is survived by two Sons, David (Merri) Wilson of Alexandria and Daniel (Tina) Wilson of Elwood. Also surviving are eight Grandchildren and seven Great-Grandchildren.
Her Parents, Husband, a Son, Robert, Jr. and a Daughter, Sharon preceded Jean in death.
Funeral services will be Tuesday in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Rev. John Albright of the Alexandria Church of God officiating. Burial will follow in Elwood City Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Alexandria Care Center’s Activity Fund in care of the funeral home.

William J. "Bill" Landes
William J. "Bill" Landes, 77 of Alexandria died Monday in community Hospital after an extended illness.

Bill was born in Hamilton Co., Indiana on August 22, 1925 and was the son of Marion and Opal (Kinnaman) Landes. On April 20, 1995 he married Patricia Foley-Dyer who survives. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the Navy from 1943 to 1952. Bill was a 1944 graduate of Anderson High School.

In 1980 he retired from Delco Remy Plant 3 as a Utility Man after 33 years of service. He was a member of Main St. Wesleyan Church-Elwood, Alexandria Lions Club, Fellowship Lodge #681 F& AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Madison Co. Shrine Club. Bill always enjoyed spending time at his trailer on Jones Lake and his winter home in Citrus Hill Park, FL where he was an avid golfer.

Surviving in addition to his wife, a daughter, Terry Robare-Indianapolis, a son, Bill (Nan) Landes, Indianapolis, Stepchildren, Dave (Jane) Dyer and Tamra (Marlin) Gooding both of Alexandria. A sister, Laura (Bob Frutiger) Conaway-Mission, TX, Sister-in-law, Grace Blake, Mary Murray, Ann and Bud Dyer. Six grandchildren, Stacy Robare, Katie (David) Childress, Nathan Landes, Amy (Jeff) Sells, Chad Dyer, Tobey (Stephanie) Gooding. Five great-grandchildren, Chandler, Taylor, Alleigh Sells, Alleigh Childress and Camden Gooding. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife Mary Margaret(Starr) Landes.

Services will be Thursday 11:00 a.m. in the Whetsel Funeral Service with Rev. Ron Becker officiating Burial will follow in Park View Cemetery, Alexandria. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. The Alexandria Lions Club will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Memorial s may be directed the Building Fund of the Main St. Wesleyan Church in care of the funeral home.

Carmetta B. Moore

Carmetta Belle Moore, 84 of Alexandria died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003 in the Alexandria Care Center.

Born in Rutland, NY on Aug. 19, 1919. She was the daughter of Frank and Leona C. Durham.

Carmetta was a veteran of WWII serving with the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps. She retired in 1983 from Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH.

Surviving is a daughter, Pamela Stigall, a brother, Harwood Durham, a sister, Carol O’Donnell and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Fr. Paul Cochran officiating. Cremation will follow. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Delores E. Miller

Delores E. Miller, 84, of Alexandria died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003 in Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie after a short illness.

Delores was the daughter of Frank and Zula (Jordan) Ballard. She was born in Alexandria on Dec. 20, 1918.

Delores was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, Alexandria.

Survivors include her 2 sons-Terry Miller, Steven Miller; a daughter, Dreama Ehrlich; 2 brothers-Mickey Ballard, Loyce Gaither; a sister-Ruth (husband-Bud) Cummins. Also, surviving are 8 grandchildren and 5 Great-grandchildren. And several Nieces and Nephews.

Delores was preceded in death by her Husband, Elbert Miller, her parents, a grandson, Erick Miller, a sister, Ruby Summers.

Funeral services for Delores will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, 2003 at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1401 S. Harrison, Alexandria with Rev. Brent Poe officiating. Burial will follow in Vinson Memorial Park Cemetery, Summitville. Friends may call at Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Elsie L. King

ALEXANDRIA- Elsie L. King, 91, of Alexandria, died Tuesday in the Alexandria Care Center after an extended illness.

Elsie was born in Fairmount, IN on September 19, 1912 and was the daughter of Alva A.and Ludella (McNew) Tomlinson. She was a member of the Christian Congregation Church, Alexandria, where is she was involved in many church actives.

Surviving are three sons, Robert L.(wife-Cherita) King-Boynton Beach, FL, Jack(wife-Janet) King-Upland, IN, William (wife-Marilyn) King-Alexandria. Two daughters, Janice Wright-Leesburg, FL, Annetta Motsinger-Middletown, IN; one brother, Robert (wife-Betty) Tomlinson-Anderson, IN; one sister, Mary Lovell-Anderson, IN.

Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 35 Great-Grandchildren and 19 Great-Great-Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, at 1:00 p.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Rev. Jerry Young and Jack King officiating. Burial will follow in Park View Cemetery, Alexandria. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Geneva M. Riggs
Geneva M. Riggs, 95 of Alexandria died Friday in the Alexandria Care Center after an extended illness.

Geneva was born on Sept. 7, 1908 in Sullivan Co., Indiana and was the daughter of John and Beth E. (Pierce) Mr Clure. In1969 she retired from Delco-Remy-Anderson.

Her husband, Russell Riggs and two daughters, Delores Hart and Rose Raley preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son, Audie Raley, three grandchildren, David Hart, Patricia Northren, Sandra E. Wells. Also surviving are 6 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in Anderson Memorial Park. There will be no visitation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria.

Harvey R. Vaughn

Harvey Russell Vaughn, 94, of Anderson, died Tuesday in Manor Care Health Services after an extended illness. Mr. Vaughn was born in Boswell, IN on July 27, 1909 and was the son of Richard O. and Elizabeth F. (Muse) Vaughn. Mr. Vaughn retired as the owner of the Aluminum Center, he also was the founder of Kool Vent Awning Co. both of Anderson. He was also the inventor of the electrical transformer and served as the Chief of Police in Pendleton from 1934 to 1939.
Harvey was married to Ruth A. Heatherley, she preceded him in death Sept. 21, 1983. Harvey was 50 year member of the Pendleton Lions Club.
Surviving is a a daughter, Beverly Castor-Anderson, a sister, Clara R. Lawson-Monticello, IN, 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2003 in Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 S. Park Ave., Alexandria with Fr. Robert Williams of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiating. Cremation will follow. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Hazel E. (Miller) Ohler

Hazel E. (Miller) Ohler, 92, of Alexandria died Wednesday, December 24, 2003 in Community Northview Nursing Facility.

Hazel was born in Summitville, IN on May 18, 1911 and was the daughter of Zeno and Cora Belle (Rose) Bramel. She was a retired homemaker and was a Methodist by faith.

Hazel was an avid Alexandria Tiger fan; she had not missed a Tiger basketball game in 25 years. She also was a great supporter of the Indiana Pacers and IU.

Survivors include her son, Donald E. Miller, a daughter, Betty L. Durr both of Alexandria. 3 grandchildren, Nancy (husband-Mike) Livingston, Donna Sue (Husband-Jeffery) Voreis, Thomas F. (wife-Ann) Durr. Also surviving are 7 great-grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

Her first husband, Benjamin H. Miller-1972 and her second husband, Irvin Ohler-1979, preceded Hazel in death.

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 27, 2003 at 11:00 am in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Norman Parr officiating. Burial will follow in Vinson Memorial Park Cemetery, Summitville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Memorials may be made to the First Methodist Church Renovation Fund in care of the funeral home.

James D. Ledford
ALEXANDRIA- James D. Ledford, 77, of Alexandria died Monday in his residence after an extended illness.

Jim was born in Alexandria on Dec. 31, 1925 and was the son of Bartley and Clara (Baker) Ledford. On June 18, 1955 he married Ruth Marion.

Jim was employed by the Alexandria Fire Dept. from 1955 to 1976. From 1972 to 1976 he served the City as Fire Chief. In 1976 Jim was employed at Marie Thurston Elementary School as a custodian until his retirement in 1988.

Jim was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Navy. Jim was a member of the Church of St. Mary’s and Alexander Bright Post #87 of the American Legion, Alexandria.

Surviving is his wife, Ruth; one brother, Jerry (wife-Marie) Ledford-Indianapolis and several Nieces and Nephews. His parents, on brother, Charles Ledford, three sisters, Jane Gallen, Rosemary Hammond, Ann Ledford, preceded him in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated Saturday, at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Mary’s with Fr. Paul Cochran as Celebrate. Cremation will follow. Friends may call at Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria on Friday from 4:00 pm to 8:00pm. A Rosary Service will be held Friday at 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

The family requests memorials are made to St. Mary’s Building Fund or Community Hospice in care of the funeral home.

Junior L. Garner

ALEXANDRIA- Junior Lee Garner, 79, of Alexandria died Tuesday in St. John Health System, Anderson after a sudden illness.

Junior was born in Gas City, Indiana on Mar. 18, 1924 and was the son of LeRoy and Leona G. (Duncan) Garner. He married Deloris Malston on Dec. 24, 1941, she survives.

Junior was retired from Delco Remy in 1981 after 40 yrs. of service. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Navy. And was a member of the Fraternal Order of Foresters.

Surviving besides his wife is a son, John (Regina) Garner-Alexandria, 2 daughters; Judy (Trenten) Smith-Muncie, Linda (Terry) Williams-Alexandria. 3 brothers; Floyd (Ethel) Garner, Ralph (Opal) Garner, Ron (Darlene) Garner all of Alexandria. 3 sisters; Elvada DiRuzza-Alexandria, Dorothy Haulter-Kokomo, Phyllis (Jerry) Pittenger-Gaston, IN.

Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great grandchild.

His parents, and 2 brothers, Charles and Loren Garner, preceded Junior in death.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2003 in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Rev. Jerry Young officiating. Burial will follow in the Park View Cemetery, Alexandria. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, September 18, 2003, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Linda L. Lawson

Linda L. Lawson, 59, of Alexandria died Friday in Community Hospital, Anderson after an extended illness.

Linda was born Jan. 3, 1944 in Elwood, IN and was the daughter of Ralph and Hilda (King) Jones. She was employed by Resin Partners in Alexandria.

Linda is survived by two daughters, Kim Lawson-Racine, WI and Deanie Lawson-Windfall, IN. Two brothers, Jerry Jones-Alexandria, Randy Jones-Anderson. Two Sisters, Kay Wilhelm-Orestes, Connie Huggins-Alexandria. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Her parents and a daughter Ronna Rae Lawson preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Fr. Paul Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
