Mary L. Knotts

Mary L. Knotts 74, of Alexandria died Saturday in the Alexandria Care Center after extended illness.

Mary was born on Jan. 27, 1929 in Gaston, IN and was the daughter of George and Irene (Harris) Keeley. On Sept. 21, 1947 she married Marvin E. Knotts who survives. For over 40 years Mary owned and operated Mary's Beauty Shop in Alexandria.

She member of the Alexandria Church of God and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Orestes. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Charles Keeley.

Other survivors is a son, Donald E. (Linda) Knotts-Sullivan, IN, a daughter, Connie (Devon) Dow-Summitville, IN, a brother, Paul Keeley, a sister, Trudy (Dave) Umberger-Yorktown, IN. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in Vinson Memorial Park Cemetery, Summitville with the Rev. Nathan Lutterman officiating. There is no public visitation. The family requests memorials be made to the American Diabetes. Assn., P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720 or in care of the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria.

Mildred I. Bassett

ALEXANDRIA- Mildred I. Bassett, 94, Alexandria died Monday in the Willows Nursing Home, Alexandria after an extended illness.

Mrs. Bassett was born on May 31, 1909 in Elwood, IN and was the daughter of James W. and Lestie (Prather) McCarty. On Nov. 18, 1934 she married Rosco LeRoy Bassett who preceded her in death in 1956.

Mildred was retired from Indiana & Michigan Electric Co. as the Building and Demonstrations Hostess. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alexandria.

Mildred is survived by two sons, Jerry (Wife-Georgia) Bassett of Alexandria and Larry (wife-Lonita) Bassett of Muncie. One sister, Mary Bell (Husband-Ralph) Cooper-Sanibel, FL. Also surviving are 5 Grandchildren- Steve (Wife-Amy) Bassett, Susan (Husband-Patrick) Helfrich, Greg (wife-Kris) Bassett of Muncie; Tim (wife-Gail) Bassett, Chris (wife-Alexis) Bassett both Alexandria and 13 Great-Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Thursday in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Cliff Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in Park View Cemetery, Alexandria. Friends may call at Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.

Thomas P. (Sonny) Rowland

Thomas P. (Sonny) Rowland, 71, of Alexandria was greeted by Angels, and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday in Community Hospital after an extended illness.

Sonny was born in Lee Co. VA. on June 4, 1932 and was the son of William M. and Amanda J. (Jesse) Rowland. Sonny lived most of his life in the Alexandria Area. On Feb. 14, 1955 he married Betty Greene who survives.

Sonny retired in 1986 from Delco Remy after 30 years of service. He served his country in the Korean Conflict serving with the U.S. Army. Sonny was an avid Gardner and spent many enjoyable times in his vegetable garden.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Alexandria and was active in the Cunningham Little League.

Surviving besides his wife, 5 sons, Stephen Rowland-Alexandria, Greg Rowland-North Homestead, OH, Doug (wife-Michelle) Rowland-Summitville, Matt (wife-Michelle) Rowland-Summitville, Mark (wife-Julie) Rowland-Alexandria. One Daughter, Tamara Rowland-Tipton. One Brother-James (wife-Ruby) Rowland, One Sister, Reva (husband-Walker) Cress both of Alexandria. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, Clint Rowland, Scott Rowland, Stephanie Rowland, Duskie Rowland, Tanner Rowland, Hannah Rowland, Courtney Rowland, Karac Aynes, Taylor Sanderson, Sarah Rowland, Monica Rowland, Zachary Rowland, Tristan Rowland, Caitlin Rowland, Noah Rowland. And One Great-Grandchild, MacKenzie McCarty. 11 Brother and Sister in laws, Betty Rowland, Gladys Rowland, Sue Reehling, Gerry (husband-Richard) Owens, Janice (husband-Perry) Pershing, Nancy (husband-Bill) Cook, Arthur (wife-Linda) Greene, Liz (husband-Tom) House, Jeanie Kiser, Jim (wife-Carolyn) Greene, Richard (wife-Kim) Greene.

Funeral services will be Saturday January 3, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Rev. Harrison Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Vinson Memorial Park, Summitville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and prior to services on Saturday.

Virgil E. Taylor

Virgil E. Taylor, 75 of Dunkirk, IN died Wednesday in the University Nursing Center, Upland, IN. after an extended illness. Virgil was born on Oct. 28, 1927 and was the son of Albert and Letha (Nuckles) Taylor. In 1988 he retired from Borg-Warner in Muncie and was a Master Carpenter.

He married Rosemary Whetsel on Nov. 12, 1949. She preceded him death on May 11, 2003.

Survivors are three sons, Kent (Linda) Taylor, Virgil E. (Lisa) Taylor, Jr.both of Dunkirk and Kevin

(Vi Ann) Taylor of Ft. Wayne. Two Sisters, Georgia (Henry) Batten and Sue Beeks both of

Hartford City. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Carrie Brannon, Scott Taylor, Megan Arnold,

Amanda Taylor, Emily Taylor, Kyle Taylor, Seth Taylor.

Funeral Services will Saturday in MJS Mortuaries, Dunkirk Chapel with Rev. Randy Davis officiating.

Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery, Dunkirk. Memorials may be made to the Bethel U.M. Church

or the University Nursing Center Activity Fund.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria.

Warren E. Costerison

ALEXANDRIA- Warren E. Costerison, 80, of Alexandria died Wednesday in Community Hospital after a sudden illness.

Warren was born Sept. 25, 1923 in Daleville, Indiana and was the son of Aleck and Edessie (Carpenter) Costerison. He graduated from Daleville High School in 1943 and was a member of high school basketball team.

Warren was an avid IU basketball fan and Euchre player and enjoyed following the New York Yankees. Warren was a loving Husband, Father and Grandfather and had many friends who will miss greatly. Through the years Warren lived in Daleville, Muncie and Alexandria.

Warren retired from Delco Remy-Anderson after 42 years of service. He was associated with Barbara Rae’s Bridal Shop in Muncie with his Daughter.

He was a member of the Church of St. Mary’s in Alexandria and Local #662.

Warren is survived by his wife of 22 years, Audrey Brown-Costerison. A Daughter, Barbara Rae (Husband Jim) Huffman-Fogelsville, PA. Two Sons; Douglas (wife Christy) Brown-Alexandria, Dan (wife Mary) Brown-Noblesville. Also surviving are five grandchildren; McKenzie Baird-Fogelsville, PA. Wesley Brown, Lakely Brown both of Alexandria, Cie-J Brown-Germany and Bob Baird-Yorktown. Two sisters; Lorena Costerison and Lillian (Husband-Gail) Wilson both of Daleville. A special nephew; Rick (wife-Carla) Morrical. Several Nieces and Nephews. And special fiends; KY and Wilma Janes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two children; Michael and Carol Costerison, 3 brothers; twin brother Walter, and Marion, Robert Costerison. 2 sisters; Ruth Westerman and Josephine Morrical.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11:00 am in the Church of St. Mary’s with Fr. Paul Cochran as Celebratent. Burial will follow in Saunder Cemetery, Daleville. Friends may call Sunday at the Whetsel Funeral Service from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. and one hour prior to services on Monday. A Christian Wake Service will be at 7:00 pm Sunday.

The family request memorials be made to the Church of St. Mary’s Building Fund or the American Heart Assn. in care of the funeral home.

Billy D. McClish

ALEXANDRIA- Billy D. Mc Clish, 54, a former resident of Alexandria died Friday in Largo, FL after a brief illness.

Billy was born in Anderson, IN on September 11, 1949 and was a lifelong resident of Alexandria before moving to Largo, Fl. two years ago. He was employed by Lockhead Aeronautics. Billy attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Alexandria-Monroe High School. Billy was a member of the Church of St. Mary’s but recently attended Liberty Baptist Church in Largo.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy (Sutton) McClish; 2 sons, Billy Jo McClish-New Jersey, Christopher B. McClish-Indianapolis. 2 step-daughters- Angela Simpson-Rosedale, IN, Rinda Sutton-Pinellas Park, Fl. One sister, Linda S. Alexander-Alexandria, 2 nieces, Tracy (Gary) Amos-Alexandria, Bobbie Sue (David) Adams-Fortville; 2 nephews, Rick Hayes-Alexandria, Robert L. Frazier-Shirley. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and several great-nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Marys, Alexandria with Father Paul Cochran as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery, Alexandria. Friends may call at Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria on Monday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Rosary Service will be Monday at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Clara G. Jones

SUMMITVILLE: Clara G. Jones, 90, of Summitville died Tuesday, March 30, 2004 in the Alexandria Care Center after an extended illness.

Clara was born in Chicago, IL on Dec. 21, 1931 and was the daughter of Hjalmer and Clara Swanson.

Clara was the owner of Community Furniture Co., Fairmont, IN from 1959 to 1972. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Summitville.

Surviving is her son, James Jones-Summitville.

Graveside services will Monday, April 5, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. in Forrestville Cemetery, Summitville. Interment of Ashes will follow.

Services have been entrusted to Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria.

Anna Mae Collins

UPLAND-Anna Mae (Clark) Collins, 69, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004 at her residence after an extended illness.

Anna Mae was born in Delaware Co. on Nov. 28, 1934 to the late Lorenzo Davis and Nellie Marie (Vance) Clark. She was a graduate of Dunkirk High School. Later in life she returned to Ball State University where she graduated in 1972 with her B.S. in Elementary Education. She went on to receive her Master of Arts Degree from Ball State in 1975 with a Reading Endorsement.

Anna Mae retired from Eaton Elementary School in 2000 after 28 years of teaching. Anna Mae was a member of Upland Community Church and the Tuesday Morning Ladies Bible Study. She was also a member of the International Bible Study Fellowship-Chesterfield, she a Marriage Enrichment Facilitator of Union Chapel Church, a member of Sigma Chi Sorority-Dunkirk and active member of Alumni of the Dunkirk High School Class of 1952. She is member of the Matthews Covered Bridge Historical Society, and former member of the Eastern Star. Anna Mae was member of the National Wildlife Association and wan an active advocate for responsible use of the environment and its natural resources.

Survivors include her husband, Richard F. Collins, 3 sons, Clark D.(Mary) Anderson-Redkey, Mark L. Anderson-Mt. Pleasant, PA, Chris M (Toni) Anderson-Albany. 1 daughter, Lori A. (Robert) Bender-Uniondale.Dara (Tim) Collins-Merrill-Carmel 1 sister; Treva M. (William) Whetsel-Alexandria. 13 grandchildren; Zeb (Neesha) Anderson, Damien (Sunnie) Younger, Molly Anderson, Candace (Chad) Muhlenkamp, Nicci (Clint) Litter, Scottie (Paula) Gunckel, Nathanael Sellers, Justin Bender, Jonathan Bender, Julayne Bender, Katie Anderson, Ben Anderson, Scott Merrill, Brandon Merrill, David Merrill. 14 great-grandchildren; Davis, Kyanne, Summer, Ashtyn, Levi, Caitlynn, Clark,Chailey, Joseph, Hannah, Austin, Jordan, Andrew, Matthew.

Funeral services will Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at the Upland Community Church with Rev. Bob Heilshorn officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Cemetery, Delaware Co. Friends may call on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004 at the Jones-Smith Funeral Home, Upland from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. And one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Memorials may be directed the charity of the Donor’s choice.

Anna L Cooper

Anna Lee Cooper, 69, of Alexandria died Thursday in Community Hospital, Anderson after a brief illness. Anna was born July 27, 1934 in Maynardville, TN and was the daughter of Hub and Martha (Langley) Grissom. She married Woodrow W. Cooper on July 6, 1953. Anna and Woodrow have resided in Alexandria since 1955.

Anna was a former employee of John Mansville Co. and a member of the Vermillion Friends Church, Alexandria.

Surviving besides her husband is a son, James A. (wife-Phyllis) Cooper, 3 daughters; Teresa Holland, Evelyn (husband-Roger) Niccum, Imogene Tays. 3 brothers; Lewis Grissom, Larry Grissom, Harley Grissom. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, Jason Jarvis, Linda (husband-Tim) Stokes, Mike (wife-April) Hutcheson, Jimmy (wife-Jesse) Holland, Jennifer Cooper, Angie (husband-Danny) Condon, Aaron Richardson and 9 great-grandchildren.

Her parents, a daughter, Hazel Hutcheson, 3 brothers, Red Grissom, Everett Grissom, Verlin Grissom and 3 sisters, Malie Grissom and Ethel Grissom, Pauline Grissom preceded Anna in death.

Funeral services for Anna will be at 11:00 am Monday in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Rev. Darrel Hargis officiating. Burial will follow in Vinson Memorial Park Cemetery, Summitville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Deloris D. Brewer

ANDERSON- Deloris Dee Brewer, 49, went with Angels to be with her Lord and Savior on Feb. 9, 2004 at her residence after an extended illness.

Dee was born in Elwood on Feb. 1, 1955 and was the daughter of Lewis and Freda (Stephens) Ashby. She retired from K-Mart North, Anderson after 20 years of service.

Dee was an active member of her church, the Tabernacle of Praise in Muncie.

Surviving are her sons, Joshua (wife-Amanda) Brewer-Ft. Knox, Ky., Christopher Brewer-Alexandria, Jared Brewer-Anderson. 5 Brothers; James (wife-Deb) Ashby-North Webster, Kenneth (wife-Brenda) Ashby-Summitville, Keith (wife-Barbara) Ashby-Alexandria, Marvin (wife-Nancy)Ashby-Alexandria, Monroe Ashby-Arcadia. 3 Sisters; Ethel (Husband-Steven) Smith-Muncie, Joan Humphries-Frankton, Carolyn (Husband-Jack) Payne-Millington, TN.

Also surviving are 2 grandchildren, Joshua Brewer II, and Noel Alexandra Brewer.

Funeral services will Friday, Feb. 13, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the Tabernacle of Praise, 2200 Fuson Rd., Muncie with Rev. John Tyner officiating. Burial will follow in IOOF Cemetery, Alexandria. Friends may call at Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 S. Park Ave., Alexandria on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Tabernacle of Praise, 2200 Fuson Rd., Muncie or in care of the funeral home.
