Virginia Maggart Bever

Virginia Maggart, 83, Lapel, passed away Saturday September 7, 2002, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis following a brief illness. She was born on September 15, 1918, in Maryland to Leland and Olga (DeLawter) Woodward. She was a 1936 Lapel High School graduate and had farmed with her husband for many years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Indiana and International Flying Farmers, the 99s, the Lapel Lady Lions, the Beechcraft Aero Club. She also had belonged to several craft and ceramic clubs. In 1957 she flew in the Powder Puff race and she had been active in several Ballroom Dancing competitions. She is survived by her son, Neal Maggart of Lapel; three grandchildren, Sherri (husband, Tony) Wood of Lapel, Betty (husband, Randy) Busby of Anderson, and Glen Maggart (fiancée, Chris Mixell) of Lapel; six great grandchildren, Matthew Wood, Megan Wood, Kaitlynn Wood, Tristan Maggart, Logan Maggart, and Kelsie Busby. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Judy K. Maggart in 1951, her first husband, Newell C. Maggart in 1986 and her second husband, Frances Bever. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. Evan Lash officiating. Burial will be at the Anderson Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 606, Lapel, Indiana 46051.

Thomas M. McDonald

Thomas M. McDonald, 91, Eustis, FL passed away Monday October 14, 2002, at Waterman Hospital in Eustis, FL. He was born on April 22, 1911, in Hamilton County to Fortner and Mabel (Edrington) McDonald. He was a 1929 Graduate of Lapel High School and retired in 1970 from Delco Remy after over 30 years of employment. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eustis, FL, a Past Master of Lapel Masonic Lodge No. 625, a member of the former Lapel Order of Eastern Star Chapter 457, the Eustis Elks Lodge No. 1578, and the U.A.W. Local 662. He is survived by his wife, Sara (Mills) McDonald of Eustis, FL; and a brother, Loren (wife, Maxine) McDonald of Pendleton. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. Bud McDonald officiating. Burial will be at the Prairie Memorial cemetery in Noblesville. Friends may call from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Friday at the Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted by the Lapel Masonic Lodge No. 625 at 5:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.

C. Wilber Moore

C. Wilber Moore, 73, Lapel, died July 9 at Community Hospital in Anderson after a brief illness. He was born on November 24, 1928 in Lapel, Indiana to Clifford Ross and Rowena (Stottlemeyer) Moore.

He was a 1947 Lapel High School graduate and a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. He retired in January 19, 1995 from Madison County Department of Weights and Measures after 34 years of employment. He also worked for 15 years at the Lapel Telephone Company. He was owner of a Laundramat and Dry Cleaners and rental properties.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He was also Past Commander of Post #212, twice, and Past County Council Commander of Madison County Council Posts. He had been Past President of Lapel Lions Club and member of Moose Lodge #540 and Moose Legion #77. He was a past member of Indiana Associates of Inspectors of Weights and Measures, and for 14 years Indiana Inspector of Weights and Measures, and Secretary and Treasurer of the State Organization.

He is survived by a sister, Arlene Pettigrew of Lapel; three nephews, Ronnie (wife, Linda) Pettigrew of Anderson; Randie (wife, Valerie) Pettigrew of Round Lake Beach, IL; Kent Hesson of Lapel; and a niece, Karen Wright of Bradenton, FL; one great nephew, Chris Hesson of Anderson; and a special friend, Bob Land, of Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister Betty Huntzinger; and a brother Clifford Moore.

Funeral Services were held July 12, 10 a.m. at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, Lapel. The Rev. Evan Lash will officiate. Burial will follow at Brookside cemetery with Military rites.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church and The American Legion Post #212 of Lapel.

Rosie N. Netherton

Rosie N. Netherton, 62, Lapel, passed away Saturday July 27, 2002, at her residence in Lapel following a brief illness.

She was born on May 18, 1940, in Celina, Tennessee to James and Ruby (Boles) Hull and had lived in Wabash many years before moving to Lapel.

She had been employed for many years by Jencor in Wabash.

She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Lapel.

She is survived by her husband, Willis Freeman Netherton; four children, Debra (husband, Mike) Swafford of Warsaw, Johnny (wife, Amy) Netherton of Phoenix, AZ, Betty Jo (husband, James) Casertano of Springfield, VA, and James (wife, Christine) Netherton of Kyle, TX; three brothers, Stanley Hull, Charlie Hull,and Cordell Hull all of Lapel; three sisters, Betty Tebbe of Tipton, Josie Montgomery, and Minnie Delph both of Lapel; twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1:00 PM at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. Roy Burkhart officiating. Burial will be at the Brookside cemetery, Lapel.

Friends may call from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday at the Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Sandra J. Passwater

Sandra J. Passwater, 48, Lapel, passed away Saturday October 26, 2002, at her residence. She was born on February 15, 1954, in Anderson to Paul and LoAnn (Ballard) Roudebush. She was a 1972 Lapel High School graduate and had been employed by Delco Remy and EDS for many years prior to becoming disabled in 1995.She attended the Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel. She was a kind, patient and loving person, and she will be greatly missed by all who loved her. She is survived by two sons, Matthew (wife, Hollie) Passwater of Anderson, and Brad Passwater of Lapel; a brother, Bruce Roudebush of Noblesville; a sister, Susan (husband, Keith) Stern of Anderson; three granddaughters, Kahlan Passwater, Kayli Passwater, and Karissa Passwater; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Becky Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents and a special friend, Mary Passwater. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. Evan Lash officiating. Burial will be at the Brookside cemetery, Lapel. Friends may call from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel. Alden Macel Renner

Alden Macel Renner, 87, Noblesville, passed away Sunday October 6, 2002 at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville following a brief illness. He was born on September 24, 1915, in Hamilton Co. to Earl and Goldie (Reddick) Renner.He attended Clarksville Christian Church and was a charter member of UAW Local 663 and a member of the Hamilton County Democrat Club. He is survived by three sons, Stanton (wife, Marsha) Renner of Noblesville, John (wife, Linda) Renner of Noblesville, and Tim (wife, Dee) Renner of Noblesville; two brothers, Jacob (wife, Carolyn) Renner of Fishersburg and Rex (wife, Nedlene) Renner of Noblesville; four grandchildren, Christian (wife, Anna) Renner, Kathleen (husband, Michael) Olse, Michael Renner, and Emily Renner; two great grandchildren, Emma Renner and Jacob Renner; and several special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wife Josephine (Kaiser) Renner in 2001; his parents; and a sister Lavon Elkins. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. John Pflum and Pastor Douglas Gast officiating. Burial will be at the Zimmer cemetery in Noblesville. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson Foundation or the charity of the donor's choice.

Susie Deloris Romine

Susie D. Romine, 77, Lapel, passed away Monday September 16, 2002, at the Extended Care Unit of Community Hospital in Anderson following an extended illness. She was born on July 2, 1925, in Anderson, Indiana to Milo and Lydia (Sowash) Johnston. She was a 1942 Anderson High School graduate and was a professional musician having played piano in several area bands. She taught piano and organ first at Anderson Music Center and then in her home. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she had been church organist for 35 years. She was the music leader for the Trinity Preschool for over 18 years where she was known affectionately as "Grandma Susie" by all the children. She had her own card ministry that touched the lives of many people and was a member of the American Federation of Musicians. She is survived by four children, James Michael (wife, Kay) Romine of Muncie, Christina (husband, David) Baerncopf of San Ramon, CA, Jeffrey Romine (friend, Cindy Sanders) of Pontotoc, MS, and Leslie (husband, Robert) Breece of Lapel; fourteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many special friends. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel with Rev. Evan Lash officiating. Burial will be at the Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel. Esther Smith

Esther Smith, 88, Mesa, AZ went home to be with the Lord Saturday October 19, 2002, at her residence. She was born on April 25, 1914, in Noblesville, Indiana to Harvey and Maude (McDonald) Males. She was a member of the Beall's Chapel United Methodist Church where she was church organist for 35 years. She is survived by her husband, Asa Smith; two daughters, Patsy (husband, Will) DeLawter of Plantation, FL, and Barbara (husband, Don) Forrer of Lapel; two sisters, Katherine (husband, Sam) Jerrell of Noblesville, and Minnie Alice White of Westfield; a brother, George (wife, Freida) Males of Noblesville; five grandchildren, Brad Forrer (companion, Tammy Lawther), Bruce Forrer, Bridget (husband, Roy) Parmley, Dean (wife, Lou) DeLawter and Duane (wife, Ruth Ann) DeLawter; ten great grandchildren, Jenica Forrer, Jenae Forrer, Baylee Lawther, Brandon Forrer, Bradley Forrer, Brock Forrer, Meagan Cobb, Cody Cobb, Natalia DeLawter, and Daniel DeLawter. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Males. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. Chris Lee officiating. Burial will be at Anderson Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel. Misty L. Smith

Misty L. Smith, 24, Lapel, passed away Friday November 08, 2002, as a result of an automobile accident. She was born on January 10, 1978, in Anderson, Indiana to Gene and Ramona (Nichelson) Brooks. She was employed as a cashier at the Gas America in Cicero.She is survived by her husband, Steven Smith; her mother and step-father, Ramona and Phil Boothroyd of Cicero; her father and step-mother Gene and Barbara Brooks of Greenfield; two brothers, Kevin (wife, Miranda) Brooks of Chesterfield and Eric (fiancée, Tina) Brooks of Cicero; a sister, Robin (husband, Larry) Pryor of Lapel; many other family members and her loving pets.She was preceded in death by her brother, Brian Brooks in 2000; a step-brother, Chris Brown in 1989; her paternal grandparents, Maurice and Bertha Brooks; and her maternal grandparents, William and Arleen Nichelson.Services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Brother Mark Lowe officiating. Burial will be at the Brookside cemetery, Lapel. Friends may call from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday at the Scott E. Norman L. Smith

Norman L. Smith, 76, Lapel, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2002, at Methodist Hospital Indianapolis after a sudden illness.

He was born on December 19, 1925, in Orestes, Indiana to Wade and Leona (East) Smith.

He was a 1944 Lapel High School graduate, a U. S. Army veteran and he served in the U. S. Navy reserves. He retired in 1991 from Delco Remy after 41 years of employment.

He was a member of the Fishersburg Wesleyan Church where he was an elder. He was also a member of the Anderson American Legion Post 127 and the U. A. W. Local 662.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ruby (Williams) Smith a resident of Rawlins House in Pendleton; three daughters, Norma (husband, Brad) Bunnell, Kristen Smith, and Deena Smith all of Anderson; one sister, Sarah Smith of Lapel; three grandchildren, Abraham Bunnell of Anderson, Sarah Bunnell of Lapel, and Amber Bunnell of Anderson; a nephew, Lawrence (wife, Pauline) Smith of New Castle; two step-sons, Cecil "Ed" Reeves and Warren Reeves both of Anderson; a special friend, J. R. Phelps of Anderson; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends too numerous to mention.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Catherine Smith and Betty Smith; and two brothers, Bernard Smith and Ray Smith.

Services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev.s Raymond Hood, James Judd, and Donald McDowell officiating. Burial will be at the Maplewood cemetery in Anderson.

Friends may call from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at the Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel.

Virginia M. Smith

Virginia M. Smith, 81, formerly of Lapel, passed away Thursday August 22, 2002, at Manor Care Health Services Anderson following an extended illness.She was born on July 23, 1921 in Cass, Indiana to James O. and Delpha D. (Pope) Rowe. She was a 1941 Anderson High School graduate and had been employed at J. C. Penny in Anderson for many years. She also worked as a private home health aid.She was a member of the Ford Street United Methodist Church and the Ivy Rebecca Lodge where she was a past officer.She is survived by her daughter, Sheila (husband, Curt) Balser of Lapel; two grandchildren, Jacinda (husband, Jeff) McClintock of Lapel, and A. J. (wife, Amy) Balser of Anderson; two brothers, Robert Lee Rowe of Anderson, and Jimmy Eugene Rowe of Anderson; a nephew Michael Rowe of California an aunt, an uncle, and several cousins.Services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel, with Rev. Mark Helm officiating. Burial will be at the Brookside cemetery, Lapel. Friends may call from noon to 2:00 PM Sunday at the Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ford Street United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 626, Lapel, Indiana 46051.

William C. Stanford

William C. (Bill) Stanford, 72, Lapel, passed away Tuesday December 3, 2002, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville following a brief illness. He was born on May 5, 1930, in Lapel to the late Shirley C. and Martha Kate (Galliher) Stanford. He is survived by two sisters, Betty Jo (husband, Allie) Smith of Emporia, and Virginia (husband, Robert) Milliner of Lapel; one brother, Fred Stanford of Mongo; a sister-in-law, Vicki Stanford of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews. At Bill's request there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will take place in Brookside cemetery in Lapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lapel Fire Department, P. O. Box 999, Lapel, Indiana 46051.The arrangements are being handled by the Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, Lapel.

Perry D. Templeton

Perry D. Templeton, 61, Anderson, passed away Wednesday October 16, 2002, at I. U. Medical Center in Indianapolis following an extended illness. He was born on February 5, 1941, in Greenville, S.C. to James and Osceola (Harrison) Templeton. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Nottingham) Templeton; three sons, Joel (wife, Tracy) Templeton of Martinsville, Alan (wife, Kim) Templeton of Anderson, and Brad (wife, Shannon) Templeton of Daleville; six grandchildren, Meagan, Tyler, Elizabeth, Brittany, Korey, and Joel, II. Services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home in Lapel with Rev. Jerry Snyder officiating. Burial will be at the Oaklawn cemetery, Fishers.
