Jerry Lee Jones

ALEXANDRIA- Jerry Lee Jones, 70 of Alexandria, died Friday, March 11, 2005 in Community Hospital, Anderson after an extended illness.

Jerry was born in Elwood, IN on Nov. 10, 1934 and was the son of Ralph and Hilda (King) Jones. In 1999, Jerry retired from Delco Remy Electronics. He served his country during peacetime in the U. S. Army serving with the Air Bourne Division.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff (Tracie) Jones and Lonny Jones both of Alexandria. One daughter, Lea Anne (Danny) Kelley of Dacula, GA.; one brother, Randy (Betty) Jones, Melbourne, FL; two sisters, Kay (Wilbur) Wilhelm of Orestes, Connie Huggins of Alexandria. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

His parents and one sister, Linda Lawson, preceded Jerry in death.

Funeral services for Jerry will Tuesday, March 15, 2005 in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Park View Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, March 14, 2005 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the Donor’s choice.

Vivian Irene Reese

ANDERSON- Vivian Irene Reese, 90, of Anderson died Monday at her residence after an extended illness.

Vivian was born in Lapel, Indiana on June 6, 1914 and was the daughter of Charles E. and Julia (Beyer) Thrasher. She was married to Raymond E. Reese who preceded her in death in 1995.

Vivian was retired from Guide Lamp in Anderson.

Surviving is a brother, William Thrasher of Mc Henry, IL and sister, Bertha M. Elsbury of Anderson. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, including her special nephew and caretaker Tommy (Mary) Mottweiler of Alexandria.

Funeral services will be Friday in Whetsel Funeral Service, 1503 S. Park Ave., Alexandria at 11:00 a.m. with Norman Parr officiating. Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Helen I. Stokes

ALEXANDRIA - Helen Irene Stokes, 74, of Alexandria died Tuesday, March 1, 2005 in Community Hospital, Anderson after an extended illness.

Helen was born on June 15, 1930 in Anderson, IN and was the daughter of Herbert and Bessy (Trueblood) Williams. On Dec. 22, 1951 Helen married Kenny Stokes.

Helen was member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary 1552, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles Lodge 1771 all of Alexandria.

She retired from Guide Lamp of Anderson in 1997 and had been a real estate agent for the past 30 years. During her real estate career she had been associated with Speedway Reality, Anderson, Casual Lifestyles, American Classic Reality both of Alexandria. Helen also had been the co-owner with her son Kenny Stokes of Kenney Stokes Reality of Alexandria.

Survivors include her husband, Kenny Stokes, Sr., four children, Kenny (Nancy) Stokes, Jr. Ronald Stokes, Patty Stokes, Scott (Penny) Stokes. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Kevin Stokes, Nicholas Stokes, Megan Stokes.

Her parents, two sisters, Ruthie Williams, Ester Holler, a brother, Herbert Williams, Jr. preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be Friday, at 1:30 p.m. in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Rev. Cliff Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Alexandria. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The family requests memorials to made to the charity of the Donor’s choice.

Kenneth E. Stokes, Sr.

Kenneth E.(Kenny) Stokes, Sr., 74 of Alexandria, died Thursday, March 31, 2005 in Community Hospital, Anderson after a brief illness.

Kenny was born on Feb. 16, 1931 in Muncie, IN and was the son of Charles and Kathryn ( Sullivan) Stokes. On Dec. 22, 1951, he married Helen I. Williams who preceded him in death on March 1, 2005.

Kenny retired in 1987 from Delco Remy-Anderson. He was a member of the VFW Post # 1552 and Eagles Lodge 1771 both of Alexandria. Kenny served his country during the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his three sons; Kenneth E. (Nancy) Stokes, Jr., Ronald Stokes, Scott (Penny) Stokes; a daughter, Patricia Stokes all of Alexandria. Three sisters; Joyce Eastman of Alexandria, Donna Pennington of Connersville, Carolyn Todd of Anderson; Two brothers; Wayne Stokes of Anderson and Travis Stokes of Alexandria. Also surviving are three grandchildren; Kevin Stokes, Nicholas Stokes, Megan Stokes.

Preceding Kenny in death besides his wife, are his Parents, and his Step-Mother, Nova Stokes.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria with Norman Parr officiating. Burial will follow in IOOF Cemetery, Alexandria. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Kathleen Swift

ALEXANDRIA- Kathleen Swift, 66, of Alexandria died Saturday in Community Hospital, Anderson after an extended illness.

Mrs. Swift was born in Alexandria on May 6, 1938 and was the daughter of Solomon and Helen (Smith) Knuckles. She was a retired homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Swift and Marla Jones; a brother, Art Knuckles; a sister, Vernice Watson. Also surviving are three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m. at Whetsel Funeral Service with Rev. Tim Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Park View Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Violet M. Sisson

ALEXANDRIA – Violet Mae Sisson, 82, of Alexandria died Wednesday in Community Hospital after an extended illness.

Violet was born in Logansport, IN on Oct. 14, 1922 and was the daughter of Benjamin F. and Ida Mae (Raugher) Gallloway.

Violet had been employed by several health care facilities in the Anderson area before her retirement.

Survivors include her two sons; Terry (wife-Peggy) Sisson-Alexandria and Larry (wife-Katherine) Sisson-New Memphis, IL. Also surviving are four grandchildren; Larry R. Sisson, Charles G. Sisson, Jamey Sisson, Tina Hibst and 5 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service will be Monday in Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria at 1:30 p.m. with Norman Parr officiating. Cremation will follow.

Sarah Jo Winstead

ALEXANDRIA - Sarah Jo Winstead, 77, of Alexandria died Wednesday in St. Vincent Mercy Hospital, Elwood.

Mrs. Winstead was born in Rodgersville, TN., on Nov. 26, 1927 and was the daughter of B. Franklin and Tennie (Gibson) Floyd.

She was the co-owner of Winstead TV and Appliances in Alexandria for several years with her husband, Elmer C. Winstead who preceded her in death.

Survivers include two daughters, Debra ( Husband-David) Street-Elwood, Sue (Husband-Dennis)Fields-Summitville, 4 grandchildren; Debra Archer, Ann Street, Alan Street, Lonnie Fields and 3 great-grandchildren; Bailey Johnson, Trey Phillips, Sydney Fields. Also surviving one brother; Bennie Floyd and one sister; June Burton both of Rodgersville, TN.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Park View Cemetery, Alexandria where burial will follow. Friends may call at Whetsel Funeral Service, Alexandria from Noon to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.

Annabelle Pedro, 86, of Green-town and formerly of Elwood, died Wednesday at Century Villa in Greentown.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Dale S. Goss, 89, Kokomo, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St. in Kokomo. Pastor George Goss and Randall D. Goss will officiate. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery in Kokomo. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Darrell E. Malott, 71, Tipton, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at Tipton Hospital.

Jodean Henderson
ELWOOD – Jodean Henderson, 68, Elwood, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood.
Born Feb. 19, 1939 in Jackson County, Tenn., she was the daughter of Homer and Nora (Spivey) Wylie.
She was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 292 in Kokomo. She retired from Delco Electronics in Kokomo after 29 years of service.
She is survived by her children, Paul and wife, Sandra Shallenberger of Elwood and Jon and wife, Cheri Shallenberger of Greentown; her siblings, Barbara Jean and husband, Don Hanna, Judy C. Wylie, Merlin and wife, Dianne Wylie, Garry D. Wylie and Tammy L. and husband, Butch May; and grandchildren, Bodie, Chloe, Tanner Jon and Taylor Adam Shallenberger.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, George T. Wylie; and a sister, Carolyn Wylie.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Porter Funeral Home in Tipton. Burial will follow at Tipton’s Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Eleanor Sprague
Eleanor Sprague, 71, Kempton, died at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007 at Autumn Wood at Tipton Hospital. Funeral services are pending at Leatherman-Morris-Boyer in Tipton.

Jodean Henderson
ELWOOD – Jodean Henderson, 68, Elwood, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007 at St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood.

STANLEY L. HOPKINS

MARCH 10, 1925 ~ JULY 30, 2007
Stanley L. Hopkins age 82, of Hemlock, Indiana passed away on July 30, 2007 at the Howard Regional Health System in Kokomo. He was born in Sneedville, Tennessee on March 10, 1925 to Charles and Laura (Lucas) Hopkins who are both deceased. He was married to Dorothy L. Hopkins on April 23, 1953. Stanley worked at Continental Steel and the Taylor School system. He was a member of the Mulberry Gap Church in Sneedville, Tennessee, and the United Steel Workers union. Stanley was a decorated Korean War veteran serving from 1951 to 1954. He received both Korean War and United Nations Service Medals. Stanley is survived by his spouse: Dorothy Hopkins of Hemlock, along with their two children: David (Ava) Hopkins of Kokomo, Indiana, and Carolyn (Greg) McCartney of Lakeland, Florida. He also had a surviving sibling: James (Eckie) Hopkins of Sneedville, Tennessee, along with five granddaughters, and four great grandchildren. The Family will be receiving friends for visitation from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday, August 1, at Porter Funeral Home.

Services will be at 2 PM on Thursday, August 2 at Porter’s with burial following at Brookside Cemetery in Windfall, Indiana. Pastors Jonathan Harris and Steve Gollner will be officiating.

PATRICIA ANN SUMMERS

FEBRUARY 28, 1939 ~ JULY 26, 2007
Patricia Ann Summers, age 68 of Tipton, IN died on July 26, 2007 at Tipton County Memorial Hospital in Tipton, IN. She was born on Feb. 28, 1939 in Tipton, Indiana to Morris and Mary (Knopp) Wood. Pat married her beloved husband Boyd A. Summers on July 30, 1955. She was a housewife, homemaker and a devoted mother of seven children. Pat was active in the Windfall United Methodist Church and a strong supporter of the Windfall Lions Club. She was an avid reader, loved music, but most of all she enjoyed spending quality time with her family, who along with many friends will miss her most of all. The family request that memorials be made to the Windfall Brach of the Tipton County Public Library. Survivors include her husband Boyd along with her children; Alana Jo (John) Calaway, Mark (Marcia) Summers, Carol (Jim) Lorts, Lori (John) Little, Kenneth (Cathie) Summers, Dennis Summers, and Pam (Michael) Gilbody. Siblings include Bruce Wood, Jean Baxter, Richard Wood, and Jackie Jackson. Grandchildren surviving are Jason Calaway, Joni (Hilliard) Rose, Scott (Laurie) Summers, Jamie (John) Aldridge, Tracy Summers, Andy Lorts, Cory Lorts, Stacey Porter, Alicia Porter, Keaton Summers, Chandler Summers, John Gilbody and Katie Gilbody with ten great grandchildren. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jim, Walter, Vic and Mike Woods along with a sister Sandy Ciders. Calling will be held from 4-8 PM on July 31, 2007 at the Porter Funeral Home in Tipton. Funeral services will be at 10 AM on August 1, 2007 at Porters with Pastors Chris Ellis and Josh Ditmer officiating. Burial will be at Brookside Cemetery in Windfall.

CAROL JOAN (ROBINSON) CUNNINGHAM

APRIL 9, 1931 ~ JULY 25, 2007
Carol Joan (Robinson) Cunningham age 76, of Frankfort, Indiana passed away on July 25, 2007. She was born in Tipton, Indiana on April 9, 1931 to Wilbur L. and Helen J. (Cuppy) Robinson who are both deceased. Carol retired from General Battery in Frankfort. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge, Women of the Moose, Eagles, and also a former Delta Sigma Kappa president. Carol graduated from Frankfort High School. She was married to Ralph Cunningham who preceded her in death. Carol was survived by two siblings: a sister; Crystal Maxine Ley of Tipton, and a brother; Jimmie Wilbur Robinson of Frankfort along with nieces and nephews: Vickie Jo Kopplemann, Andy Jarboe, Jim Jarboe, and Tim Jarboe. She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, brother-in-law; Elmer Ley, and nephew; Elmer Ley Jr. The Family will be receiving friends for visitation from 6 to 8 PM on Monday, July 30, at Porter Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 AM on Tuesday, July 31 at Porter‘s with burial following at the Fairview Cemetery. Pastor Logan Westrick will be officiating.

MARTHA M. GUFFEY

OCTOBER 27, 1929 ~ JULY 25, 2007
Martha M. Guffey age 77, of Tipton, Indiana passed away on July 25, 2007 at Tipton Hospital. She was born in Elwood, Indiana on October 27, 1929 to Raymond and Bonnie (Brown) Minniear who are both deceased. Martha married Berry Guffey in 1946 and he passed away in 1996. She was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 292 in Kokomo and a graduate of Tipton High School. Martha was employed at Delco Radio in Kokomo for 36 years before retiring in 1993. Surviving are two sons; Terry (Linda) Guffey, Kenny (Connie) Guffey and a son-in-law Walter Hillian all of Tipton along with grandchildren; Tisha Brewer, Derek (Melissa) Guffey, Wade Guffey, Justin Horsely and great grandchildren; Tyler Brewer, Kira Brewer, Jaden Guffey, Justin Horsely Jr. and several nieces & nephews. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Sherry Hillian and three sisters. Calling will be from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, July 27, at the Porter Funeral Home in Tipton. Services will be at 10 AM on Saturday, July 28 at Porter’s with burial following at the Fairview Cemetery. Pastor Logan Wesrick will be officiating.

MARTHA E. NELSON

MAY 9, 1925 ~ JULY 23, 2007
Martha E. Nelson age 82, of Tipton, Indiana passed away on July 23, 2007. She was born in Tipton, Indiana on May 9, 1925 to Paul and Goldie (Teter) Merrill who are both deceased. Martha worked at the Oakes Manufacturing and FMC Corp. before retiring in 1969. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tipton. Martha was survived by her spouse: Bill Nelson of Tipton along with their two children: Mike (Vickie) Nelson of Tipton, and Larry Nelson of Manchester, New Hampshire. She has two surviving Siblings: Don (Janice) Merrill of Tipton, and Charles (Dorothy) Merrill of Tipton, along with four grandchildren: Jason Nelson, Amanda Null, Nathan Nelson, David Nelson, and five great grandchildren: Brendyn Nelson, Sierra Nelson, Camden Nelson, Korbin Nelson, and Dylan Nelson. The Family will be receiving friends for visitation from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday, July 26, at Porter Funeral Home.

Services will be at 10 AM on Friday, July 27 at The First Baptist Church in Tipton. Pastor Mark Ward will be officiating.

CARL E. SLOAN

MARCH 13, 1913 ~ JULY 19, 2007
Carl Edward Sloan , 94, of Tipton, left Tipton Hospital on Thursday July 19, 2007 to join the Lord in glory completing a long, full life in

His service on this earth.

He was born on March 13, 1913 on the family farm northeast of Atlanta, IN which was purchased by his grandfather John S. Sloan in 1868. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Louise Imogene (Baitz) Sloan; his parents Omer and Sarah Jane (Lilly) Sloan; and by two sisters Edith Weismiller and Grace Ann Foor.

He farmed his whole life, raising grain, cattle, hogs, horses, sheep, and enjoyed showing Redbone coon dogs competitively. He was an avid coon hunter and active in the National Redbone Coonhound Association, the Tipton Coon Club, along with several other similar associations. He was a member of West Street Christian Church in Tipton and a 1932 graduate of Tipton High School. In 1939 Carl was the corn husking champion and set a new record for Tipton County.

Surviving are one son, Eddie (Kay Biddle) Sloan of Hobbs, IN and three daughters: Carolyn (William Cecil) Bice of Brook, IN; Brenda (Tom) Wilson of Muncie, IN; Jenny (Mark) Taylor of Delphi, IN; seven grandchildren (Melissa Rubrecht, Angie Fisher, Mitchell Sloan, Karlanna Fonseca, Bethany Robinson, Brandon Bice, and Nathan Morris) ten great-grandchildren (Ryan & Joey Fisher, Madison, Quentin, & Ella Sloan, Niko Fonseca and Breann Wilber, Olivia & Christopher Robinson, and Madilynn Morris); and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are on Sunday from 2 to 5 PM at the Porter Funeral Home in Tipton. Funeral services are Monday at 11 AM at Porter’s with burial in Tipton’s Fairview Cemetery. Pastor Harold Barnett will officiate.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Caregivers Companion, P.O. Box 146, Tipton, IN 46072 or the organization of your choice.
