Cleta R. Berger, 84, of 600 Oak Hill Avenue, Plymouth, passed away at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2002 at Miller's Merry Manor of Plymouth.
She was born on July 22, 1918 in Culver to Russell and Wanda (LaBounty) Easterday. She married
Robert K. Berger at her parent's home on July 25, 1937. Robert passed away March 10, 1996 after 59 years of marriage. The Bergers lived in Culver for many years. They moved to Plymouth 20 years ago.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Plymouth and the Eastern Star Chapter #26 of Plymouth and had been a Mother Advisor for the Rainbow Girls. Cleta graduated from Culver High School and was a licensed beautician.
She is Survived by her Daughters; Loretta and James Yagelski of Plymouth, Indiana, Jeanette and Paul LaMar of South Bend, Indiana and Lana Berger of Aurora, Colorado; a son Larry and Jacquelin Berger of Culver, Indiana also survive. Cleta is also survived by 9 Grandchildren and 7 Great-grandchildren as well as a Sister, Rosalie and Coleman Lowery of Plymouth, Indiana and two sister-in-laws, Melba Easterday and Sue Easterday both of Culver, Indiana. She is preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Services will be held Friday, September 13, 2002 at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Plymouth, Indiana, with the Dr. E. Dean Fager officiating. Burial will be in the Culver Masonic cemetery in Culver, Indiana.
Friends may call Thursday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street Plymouth, Indiana, and one hour before the service Friday at the church.
The family requests that memorial contributions be given the Alzheimers Association or to the Donor's Choice.

Rollie Hutchins, 59, of 10981 South Michigan Street, Plymouth, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2002, at 12:40 AM at Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home in Plymouth.
He was born on September 9, 1942 in Minnesota to Verne and Dorothy Stedman Hutchins. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He moved to Plymouth from Minnesota two years ago. He worked for Rockwell Windows in Knox, Indiana.
He is survived by His Daughter, Angel Kay Hutchins of Park Rapids, MN, Sister, Betty and Jim Gamble of Plymouth, IN, Sister, Darlene and Mitchell Elsie of Burr Oak, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Verne Hutchins, Jr., who died one month ago.
There is no service or visitation. Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, Indiana, is in charge of the arrangements.

Shirley Anne Trimmer, 61, of 310 N. Michigan Street Apt. 400, Plymouth, passed away Monday, August 26, 2002 at 11:40 PM at St. Joseph RMC Plymouth Campus in Plymouth.
She was born on February 15, 1941 in Goshen, IN to Elwin and Mage France Trimmer, and moved to the Argos and the Plymouth area when she was a child.
She is survived by Her step-father Raymond Ryan of Argos, IN brother, Edward and Josephine Trimmer of Sherrerville, IN, Brother, Wade and Besty Ryan of Lexington, NC, Sister, Diana Reed of Montrose, CA, Brother, Van and Marylin Ryan of Joplin, MO, Brother, Michael and Angie Ryan of Cloves, NM. She was preceded in death by her father Elwin in 1983 and mother Marge Ryan (May 9, 2001)
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 29, 2002 at 10:00 AM at Van Gilder Funeral Home in Plymouth. Services will be held Thursday, August 22, 2002 at 11:00 AM at Van Gilder Funeral Home in Plymouth, IN, 46563, with Rev. Wayne Mikel officiating. Arnold J. Downing, 78, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2002 at the Alterra Sterling House of Jeffersonville, Indiana.
He was born on July 29, 1924 in Bourbon, Indiana to Austin and Minnie Kessler Downing. Arnold served in the United States Navy during World War Two The Korean War, retiring in 1963.
Arnold and his wife, Mary Winrotte, who passed away April 26, 2001, were Kentucky Fried Chicken Franchisee for 29 years.
He was a member of Cook Memorial United Methodist Church, The Fleet Reserve USN, The Kentuckiana Association of Kentucky Fried Chicken, The Southeast Association of Kentucky Fried Chicken, The National Association of Kentucky Fried Chicken, AARP, Jeffersonville Elks Club #362, BPOE, and was a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by His Son, Terry and Elaine Downing of Jeffersonville, Indiana, Son, Craig and Debra Downing of Charlestown, Indiana, Daughter, Karen Downing of Alpharetta, Georgia. Also surviving are 4 Grandsons and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and his brother Robert Downing.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held Thursday August 15, 2002 at 10:00 AM at Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street in Plymouth, Indiana, with Rev. Steven Resner officiating. Burial will be at the New Oak Hill cemetery in Plymouth, IN.

Richard J. "Dick" Grolich, 77, of 1304 Fairbanks Street, Plymouth, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2002 at 6:37 p.m. at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana.
He was born on July 14, 1925 in Gary, Indiana to Rudolph and Irene Lambert Grolich. Dick's family moved from Gary to Plymouth in 1935 . He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.
Richard and Mildred Bowles were married
June 22, 1945 in South Bend, Indiana and moved to Argos, Indiana where he owned and operated Grolich's Grocery Store. He owned the grocery store until his retirement.
He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Donaldson, Indiana, Order of the Moose #741 in Plymouth, a 50 year member of the American Legion Post #68 in Argos, a lifetime member of Plymouth VFW Post #1162, a 50 year member of the Indiana Volunteer Fire Association, and a 33 year member of the Argos Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred of Plymouth, Indiana; sons, John and Deanna (Orsund) Grolich of Plymouth, Indiana, Tim and Lula Grolich of Elkhart, Indiana; daughters, Jean and Chuck Taylor of Plymouth, Indiana, Jodie Smith of Plymouth, Indiana; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother John.
Visitation will be held Monday, August 5, 2002 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, and one hour before the service at the church. Services will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Donaldson, Indiana. Burial will be at New Oak Hill cemetery in Plymouth, Indiana. There will be a Military graveside service which will be presented by the American Legion Post #68 of Argos, Indiana.
The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Plymouth EMS, the Argos Fire Department, or the Donor's Choice.

Margaret McAvoy, 90, of 19312 West 4th B Road, Walkerton, passed away Friday December 6, 2002 at 8:22 AM at Catherine Kasper Life Care Center of Donaldson, Indiana.
She was born on June 22, 1912 in West Township, Marshall County, to Elmer and Minnie (Bradley) Couts.
She married
Neal McAvoy on April 17, 1931 and he passed away on May 19, 1976. Margaret worked at the Kingsbury Ordnance Plant during the war.
She is survived by her Son, Donald McAvoy of Walkerton, Indiana; sisters, Mildred and Lee Reid of Culver, Indiana, and Iris and Eugene Keck of South Bend, Indiana; several nephews and neices. She was prededed in death by 5 brothers; Alfred, William, Daniel, Floyd and Everett; and 2 sisters Hazel Ogle and Eva Harmes.
Services will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home in Plymouth, Indiana. Burial will be at the New Oak Hill cemetery.

Mae A. Fisher, 95, of 400 West Seventh Street, North Manchester, passed away Wednesday December 4, 2002 at 4:05 AM at Peabody Retirement Center, North Manchester, Indiana. She was formally a Plymouth resident. She moved to North Manchester in 1991.
Mae was born on May 28, 1906 in Chicago to Jesse and Isabelle (MacDonald) Murgatroyd.
She married
Emmett Fisher on June 17, 1945 in Plymouth, Indiana. Emmett died January 15, 1970.
Mae graduated from Manchester College and in 1939 she received a BS in education from Ball State University. She was a teacher from 1924 to 1945 in Plymouth. She taught in the South Bend School School System from 1941 to 1945. Mae worked for Field Enterprises Educational Corporation selling Childcraft and World Book Encyclopedia and held the position of district manager.
She was an Elder in the Plymouth Presbyterian Church and past president of Presbyterian Women and Church Women United. She was also a member of Marshall County and National Retired Teachers Association and AARP. Mae was very active in the League of Women Voters and BPW, The National Organization of Women and People for Peace. In 1981 Mae received the Plymouth JayCee Distinguished Citizen Award and was nominated for 'Older Hoosier of the Year' by the Marshall County Council on Aging and the Area ll Advisory Council on Aging. She served 8 years as Secretary of the Marshall County Council on Aging and was a member of the Area Advisory Council and Older Hoosier Assembly. Mae was a member of the Board of Directors of Garden Courts, INC.
She is survived by, step-daughter Jean E. Thines of East Aurora, New York; and niece Catherine Harvey of Chicago, Illinois.
Services will be held Monday December 9, 2002 at 1:00 PM at the Van Gilder Funeral Home in Plymouth, Indiana with Rev. Steve Mullin officiating. Burial will be at the New Oak Hill cemetery.

Joseph Abert, 95, of 1311 West Jefferson Street, Apt. 522, Plymouth, passed away Wednesday December 4, 2002 at 5:00 PM at his home in Plymouth.
He was born on November 11, 1907 in Starke County to Frank and Anna (Holoun) Abert. He moved to Plymouth from Hammond 15 years ago. He worked for the City Services Refinery in Whiting, Indiana and served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
He married
Helen Hawley and she has passed away.
He was a member of American Legion Post #27, V.F.W. #1162, Plymouth Moose Lodge #741,
Scottish Rite, and the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by a sister, Anna Esch of Culver, Indiana; niece Wilma and Richard Craft of Plymouth; and nephew John Abert of Mesa, Arizona.
Services will be held Monday, December 9, 2002 at 10:30 AM at the Van Gilder Funeral Home in Plymouth, Indiana with Rev. Steven Resner officiating. Burial will be at the Burr Oak cemetery on Monday December 9, 2002.
