Walter S. Jurkiewicz, 83, of 11570 W. 9A Road, Plymouth, passed away Tuesday December 3, 2002 at 8:30 AM at his home in Plymouth, Indiana.

He was born on February 16, 1919 in Scott Haven, Pennsylvania to John and Mary (Chliszczyk) Jurkiewicz. Walter graduated from Hamtramck High School in Michigan. He received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University as well as his Master's degree.

He married Margaret Gommel on January 1, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan. Walter served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Walter and Margaret lived in Indianapolis from 1947-1957 during which time Walt taught and coached at Broad Ripple High School. He led the team to 3 city championships in football. Walter also taught at Greenfield High School and in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1961 the Jurkiewicz family moved to Plymouth where Walt taught until 1964. The next twenty years, were spent teaching and coaching at Penn High School in Mishawaka, Indiana.

Walter was a member of The NFL Alumni Legend Association, Alumni Hamtramck High School, AARP, Retired Teachers Association, Heartland Artist Association, The American Legion, The Guild of American Papercutters, Plymouth Library Board, Marshall County Council on Aging, The National Coaches Association and The American Red Cross. Walter was a member and former president of The Polish Cultural Society of Indiana, INC. He was also a volunteer teacher of paper cutting at The Senior Center and Forever Learning Institute of South Bend, Indiana. He has taught paper cutting all over the world as well as individuals in Maryland, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio and Illinois. He patented Robo-T-Snap and was awarded the 1963 Kodak Play of the year when he played with the Detroit Lions. He was a center and linebacker.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughter, Mary and Richard Innes of Aurora, IL.; sons, Dewey Jurkiewicz of North Bend, Or.; Walter and Janelle Jurkiewicz, Jr. of Cordova, TN.; and Hugh and Arlene Jurkiewicz of Westford, MA.; sister, Helen and Charles Cole of CA.; brother, Louis Jurkiewicz of Raleigh, NC.; and 7 grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday December 7, 2002 at 11:00 AM at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, in Plymouth, In with Fr. William Kummer officiating.

Friends may call Friday, December 6, 2002 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home.

The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Saint Michael's Catholic Church, Marshall county Hospice or Indiana University Foundation Scholarship Fund.

William F. Green, 77, of 16881 10th B Road, Plymouth, passed away Sunday December 1, 2002 at 4:25 AM at his home in Plymouth, Indiana.

He was born on February 5, 1925 in Culver to James and Mabel (Talley) Green.

Bill married Jean Lillian Schumann on September 12, 1948 in Argos, Indiana. Bill served his country during, WWII in the United States Army. Bill was employed by Nipsco for 36 years.

He was a Member of Plymouth VFW Post 1162, American Legion Post #27, Plymouth Moose Lodge # 741, Fraternal Order of Police, and The Pretty Lake United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Jean, son, Art Green, daughter, Connie Green, son, Tom and Debbie Green, daughter, Janice and Bill Wagoner all of Plymouth, Indiana. Also surviving are Bill's sisters, Hazel Cook of Culver, Indiana and Mildred Parker of Orman Beach, Florida and grandchildren; Misti, Myranda, Matt and Renee, and a great-grandchild Skyler.

There will be no visitation or service. Van Gilder Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The family requests that memorial contributions be given to The Pretty Lake Church (8985 State Road 17 Plymouth, Indiana) or to The Marshall County Hospice (112 South Center Street, Suite C Plymouth, Indiana).

Maxine D. Hamilton, 73, of 10486 US 6, Bremen, passed away Friday November 22, 2002 at 4:00 PM at her daughter's home in Bremen, Indiana.

She was born on February 6, 1929 in Swifton Arkansas, to James and Rebecca (Deathridge) Worsham. She married Harold I. Hamilton on October 5, 1946 in Arkansas. They lived in the Bremen area for the past 32 years.

She is survived by husband; Harold I. Hamilton of Bremen, IN.; son, Harold G. and Delores Hamilton of Plymouth, Indiana; daughter, Pat and Russell Maenhout of Bremen, Indiana; son, Charles Monroe Hamilton of Bremen, Indiana; brother, Johnnie Rex Worsham; sisters, Ruth Pauline Tucker and Jewel Audry Tucker; as well as 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by 6 brothers and 3 sisters.

Services will be held Tuesday November 26, 2002 at 10:00 AM at the Van Gilder Funeral Home in Plymouth, Indiana with Art Adams and Byron Henbest officiating. Burial will be at the Bremen cemetery.

Friends may call Monday, November 25, 2002 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Van Gilder Funeral Home 300 West Madison Street in Plymouth, Indiana.

The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Marshall county Hospice or to the American Cancer Society.

Lucille E. Smith, 96, formerly of Tyner, passed away Tuesday November 12, 2002 in Covina, California. Lucille moved to California in 1992 to live with her daughter, Dorothy (Dusty) Lane.

She was born on October 22, 1906 in Mishawaka to Clyde and Emma (Klingerman) Richey. Lucille graduated from Tyner High School.

Lucille married Elvin E. Smith on November 10, 1927 in Dowagiac, Michigan. He passed away on August 30, 1978.

Lucille attended the Tyner United Methodist Church.

She is survived by Daughter, Virginia (H.B.) McCormick of Atlanta, Georgia, Son, Donald(Rosemary) Smith of Aberdean, Washington, Son, Earl (Trudy) Smith of Niles, Michigan, Son, John(Beverly) Smith of St. Louis, Missouri, Son, James(Mary) Smith of Culver, Indiana, Son, Bill (Sue Kay) of Plymouth, Indiana, Daughter, Dorothy(Robert) Lane of Covina, California, and Daughter, Maryanne (Allan) Beery of Plymouth, Indiana. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Lucille was preceded in death by her Husband Elvin, brother Glenn, and her Sister Dorothy.

Services will be held Saturday November 16, 2002 at 11:00 AM at the Van Gilder Funeral Home in Plymouth, Indiana, with Rev. Paul McBride officiating. Burial will be at the Tyner cemetery on Saturday, November 16, 2002.

Friends may call Friday, November 15, 2002 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, Indiana.

Zella M. Schafer, 66, of 17091 West 4B Road, Plymouth, passed away Friday November 8, 2002 at 6:30 AM at her home in Plymouth, Indiana.

She was born on April 16, 1936 in Wolcottville, Indiana to Theodore and Geneva (Grim) Ness.

She married Robert Schafer on November 11, 1955 in Wolcottville, Indiana, and he passed away on Jan 19, 2002. She was also preceded in death by a daughter Donna Marie.

Zella work and retired from Wells Aluminum in North Liberty.

She is survived by Daughter, Sandy (David) Rose of Plymouth, Indiana; Sons, David (Anna) Schafer of Hamlet, Indiana, and Donn (Peggy) Schafer of Mesa, Arizona. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Melissa Rose of Plymouth, Indiana, Micheal Rose of Plymouth, Indiana, Jessica Rose of Plymouth, Indiana, Samantha Schafer of Hamlet, Indiana, Tamera Schafer of Hamlet, Indiana, Step-Grandchildren, Becky Fraine of Hamlet, Indiana. Also surviving are 3 sisters Marjorie Timer, Harriet Wynkoop and Betty Ness. Four sister-in-laws and 1 brother-in-law.

Services will be held Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at 1:00 PM at the Van Gilder Funeral Home in Plymouth, Indiana with Chaplain Margie Shaw officiating. Burial will be at the Tyner cemetery, Tyner, Indiana.

Helen I. (Irene) Wilson, 78, of 7872 Tulip Road, Plymouth, passed away Friday, November 8, 2002 at 1:45 PM at her daughter's home in Plymouth, Indiana.

She was born on February 9, 1924 in Plymouth to Howard and Bertha (Dickson) Marsh.

Helen married William Wilson on July 26, 1942 in Plymouth, and he passed away September 11, 1985.
Helen moved back to Plymouth and has lived here for the past 16 years.

She is survived by Sons, James and Pat Wilson of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Danny and Dawn Wilson of Belleville, Michigan; Daughter, Amy and Byron Guerra of Plymouth, Indiana. Also surviving are her sister, Evelyn and Junior Reutebuch of Plymouth, Indiana and 2 Grandchildren, Shelia Warden and Desirae Wilson, as well as 3 Great-grandchildren, Brandon Warden, Katie Warden and Skyler Guerra.

Services will be held Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at 11:00 AM at the Van Gilder Funeral Home in Plymouth, Indiana with Rev. Thomas Padberg officiating. Burial will be at the New Oak Hill cemetery, Plymouth, Indiana.

Friends may call Monday, November 11, 2002 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, Indiana.

Bertha (Bert) E. Taviner, 73, of 400 W. Washington Street, #E29, Plymouth, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at 10:55 AM at St. Joseph RMC, Plymouth Campus in Plymouth, Indiana.

She was born on September 17, 1929 in Tippecanoe, Indiana, to Ellis and Leona Lockard Cormican. She lived in the Plymouth area most of her life.

Bert and Don Taviner were married on January 24, 1948 in Bourbon, Indiana. Don passed away on August 4, 1984. Bert spent many hours working on their family farm in West Township.

She was involved in the Plymouth Youth Bowling League for 34 years and coached Little League for 3 years. Bert was a member of the Pretty Lake Trinity United Methodist Church.

She is survived by Daughters, Margo (Eugene) DeMont of Plymouth, Indiana and Lynn (Ron) McGowen of Lancaster, Pennsylvania and her son, Dewayne Taviner of Plymouth, Indiana. Also surviving are Bert's brother, Gerold Cormican of Sheridan, Indiana, as well as six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held November 9, 2002 at 10:30 AM at Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, Indiana. The service will be officiated by Rev. Charles Krieg, pastor of the Salem United Methodist Church, Bremen, Indiana.

Visitation will be November 9, 2002 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Van Gilder Funeral Home.

The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Ancilla College or Marshall County Hospice.

Caroline Dickout, 78, of 600 Oak Hill Avenue, Plymouth, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2003 at 2:30 PM at Miller's Merry Manor, in Plymouth.

She was born on May 12, 1924 in Ridgeway, Pennsylvania to William and Julia Nelson.

Caroline was a housewife and a mother. She had been living in Plymouth since May 18, 1998.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Nelson Sharp of Plainfield, Illinois.

There will be no funeral services or visitation.

Van Gilder Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
