John E. Batta, 75, of 14130 State Road 17, Culver, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at 12:08 a.m. in Starke Memorial Hospital, Knox.

He was born on July 20, 1927 in Lafayette, Indiana to Mr. and Mrs. John P. Batta.

He married Bonnie VanDePutte on December 24, 1981 in South Bend, Indiana. He was previously married to Dorothy Gunn on April 17, 1965 in Plymouth. She passed away on May 2, 1971.

John was a member of the Culver Eagles F.O.E. # 3221, in Culver and he held several offices in the lodge. John served his country during World War II in the Army. He retired from the O.J. Shoemaker Plumbing and Heating in South Bend. He then helped out at Bennett's General Contracting in Culver, when needed.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, a daughter, Marty (Vinnie) Carnegie of Plymouth, a son, John Peter (Alicia) Batta of Argos, a daughter, Patricia (Donald) VanBlaircom of Florida, six step-sons; Craig Paluszewski of Los Angles, California, Stan (Debbie) Paluszewski of Indianapolis, Indiana, Martin (Caroline) Paluszewski of South Bend, Indiana, Tim (Cheryl) Paluszewski of South Bend, Indiana, Brian (Pam) Paluszewski of South Bend, Indiana, and Kevin Paluszewski of Culver, Indiana, 11 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, 5 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy, and one step-grandchild.

Services will be held Friday, July 18, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home in Plymouth with Rev. David Henry officiating.

Friends may call Friday, July 18, 2003 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street in Plymouth.

The family requests that memorial contributions be given to The John Batta Memorial Fund at the Culver F.O.E. # 3221.

Donald J. Knepp, 54, of 3919 Michigan Road Lot # 31, Plymouth, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at 7:04 p.m. in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth Campus.

He was born on December 21, 1948 in South Bend to Clayton and Patricia (McGarity) Knepp.

He married Cathi Hyer on March 11, 1972 in Portage, Indiana.

He was an independent truck driver, and served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict.

Donald is survived by his wife, Cathi Knepp of Plymouth.

There will be no visitation or services at this time, cremation will take place. The Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, is in charge of the arrangements.

Gregory L. Good, 51, of 1001 West Laporte Street, Plymouth, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at 8:05 p.m. at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth Campus.

He was born on April 21, 1952 in Plymouth to David and Jean (Irick) Good and has a Plymouth resident all of his life.

He worked for CSX out of Plymouth in the track department for the past 27 years. He worked in and around the cities of Elkhart and Plymouth. Greg served his country in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of Veitnam. He also was a member of the V.F.W. Post #1162 and belonged to the ABATE Motorcycle Club.

He is survived by father and mother, David and Jean Good of Plymouth, his sons; Tory Good and Jared Good both of Plymouth; his daughters; Heidi (Eric) Wringer of Carmel, Indiana, and Katie Good of Plymouth, his sisters; Susan (John B.) Feeney of South Bend, Indiana and Linda (Tom) Tyler of Indianapolis, Indiana, his brothers; Jon Good of Plymouth, and Mark (Sherri) Good of Huntington, Indiana, his grandmother, Leta Irick of Plymouth, and nine nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Saturday, July 19, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home in Plymouth, with Rev. Charles Krieg officiating. Burial will be at the New Oak Hill cemetery.

Friends may call Friday, July 18, 2003 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, in Plymouth.

The family requests that memorial contributions be given to The Muscular Dystrophy Association, Inc., The Make A Wish Ride Foundation, 314 West Catalpa Drive, Mishawaka, Indiana, or The Shriner's Hospital.

Robert D. Wagoner, 75, of 921 Pontiac, Rochester, Indiana, passed away Monday, June 30, 2003 at 5:32 p.m. at Saint Joseph Regional Center in South Bend.

He was born on July 23, 1927 in South Bend to Paul and Irma (Wentzel) Wagoner.

He married Juanita Booker on December 29, 1945 in Plymouth. They moved to Rochester in 1950. Robert owned and operated a coin laundry, Wagoner Radiator and Wag's TV and Appliances in Rochester, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rochester. He served his country during World War II in the Army.

Robert is survived by his wife Juanita, their sons; Gregory Wagoner of Indianapolis, Indiana, Mark (Cindy) Wagoner of Plymouth, Indiana, Philip (Terri) Wagoner of Greenwood, Indiana and Todd Wagoner of, Taylorville Illinois, his sister, Patricia Minear of Milford, Indiana, and his grandchildren, Cyle (Chris) Wagoner, Cory Wagoner, Paige Wagoner, Ty Wagoner, Eric Wagoner, Patrick Wagoner, Kaitlyn Wagoner, and Alyssa Wagoner. He was preceded in death by two infant sons and four brothers.

Services will be held Sunday, July 6, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home in Plymouth with Rev. Mark Spencer officiating. Burial will be at the New Oak Hill cemetery in Plymouth.

Bernice B. Rettinger, 87, of 070 N. 075 E. LaGrange, passed away Monday, June 23, 2003 at 12:50 a.m. at Life Care Center in LaGrange, Indiana.

She was born on May 17, 1916 in Hammond to Charles and Catherine (Homrich) Bauman.

She married Carl Rettinger on March 31, 1945 in Hammond, Indiana. He passed away on April 14, 1991. They owned and operated the Inwood General Store for many years.

She lived in Plymouth until late 1991 and then moved to LaGrange. They had lived in the Lake Gage Area from 1963 to 1974.

She is survived by her daughters; Carla (Bob) Jones of LaGrange, Indiana, Doris (Victor) Newberg of Buchanan, Michigan, Rochelle Noble of Mooresville, Indiana, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren and four step great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday, June 26, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home in Plymouth, with the Rev. Dexter Garman officiating. Burial will be at the Pleasant Hill cemetery in Bourbon.

Mathew T. Horvath, 50, of 20757 7th Road, Plymouth, passed away Monday, June 23, 2003 at 12:49 p.m. at Memorial Hospital inSouth Bend.

He was born on July 15, 1952 in South Bend to Mathew and Fanna (Dykstra) Horvath.

He married Laylitha Pillary on March 14, 1982.

Mathew worked at the A.M. General Plant in Mishawaka as an inspector. He served his country in the U. S. Army. They have lived in Plymouth for the past 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Laylitha, his mother, Fanna Horvath of Mishawaka, their daughters; Sunita, Sajeena, and Shani Horvath all at home, his brothers; Michael (Rose) Horvath of Niles, Michigan, and Paul (JoAnn) Horvath of Osceola, Indiana, his sisters; Martha(Ed) Fisher of Mishawaka, Indiana and Terri (Bill) Fenimore of Osceola, Indiana. Also several nephews and nieces survive. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents, Mathew and Theresa Horvath and Nick and Martha Dykstra.

Services will be held Saturday, June 28, 2003 at 7:00 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home in Plymouth.

She was a member of the Argos Bible Church and had worked at Rochester at Hart Schafter and Marx as a seamstress.

She is survived by her brothers, Albert (Sue) McVey of Plymouth, Dennis (Betty) McVey of Plymouth, and Paul (Debbie) McVey of Plymouth.

Friends may meet with the family at the American Legion from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2003. There will be no funeral or memorial service.

She was born on May 18, 1938 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Charles and Madeline (Ritter) Borke.

On August 30, 1958, in Plymouth, she married James Brown. They were married for 44 years.

Mickie worked in sales, for Sears and Roebuck Company and for Clark Oil. She was a member of Saint Michael's Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose.

Mickie is survived by her husband, James Brown, their daughters; Missy Collins of Plymouth, Mary Kohman of Argos, and Peggy (Kent) Samuels of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, their sons, Jim Brown, Jr., and Joe and (Shelly) Brown of Plymouth, 15 grandchildren, her mother, Madeline
Borke, four sisters; Joann (Steve) Sandlin of Washington, Janet (Ed) Gilkison of Ohio, Cathy (Boyd) Gilley of Pennsylvania, and Charla Heintz of Ohio, three brothers; Daniel (Sharon) Borke of Ohio, Charles Hintz of Ohio, and Carl (Kim) Hintz of Ohio.

Services will be held Saturday, June 28, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Michael's Catholic Church in Plymouth, Burial will be in Saint Michael's cemetery.

Friends may call Friday, June 27, 2003, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madsion Street in Plymouth. The funeral will be Saturday, at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Michael's Catholic Church.
