Merlin Keith Jones
Born in Enterprise, Kansas on Aug. 7, 1931
passed away Dec. 3, 2008 and resided in Plymouth, IN.

Merlin K. Jones, age 77, of Plymouth, passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at the Catherine Kasper Life Care Center in Donaldson.

Merlin was born on August 7, 1931 to Clarence and Lydia (Borgman) Jones, in Enterprise, Kansas. Merlin and the former Margot Montelius were united in marriage on June 22, 1952. The couple were both graduates of Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, and were married for 52 years. Margot passed away in February, 2005.

Following graduation from Cornell, Merlin enlisted in the US Army, serving as a control tower operator in Ft. Knox, Ky. There, he developed a lifelong affection for aviation and flying. He ferried Piper aircraft from the manufacturer in Kansas to customers as far away as Alaska. Over the years, he flew company planes commercially for several of his employers, and enjoyed taking his family on flying vacations. He was active in leadership of several flying clubs, and loved to tinker with his experimental gyrocopter and beloved Cessna 337 Skymaster.

An engineer by trade, Merlin's talent for innovation led him through an interesting and varied career path. He had an immense aptitude for invention and fixing things. Merlin had a hand in designing rocket parts used in the space program, and engineered and patented complex machinery for the paper processing industry, as Vice President of Bomarko, Inc. He engineered interior architecture for a large builder. He also worked as general manager of Skystream Airlines, and as a plant manager for Wickes Mobile Homes. Merlin and Margot purchased and incorporated Anco Office Products in 1975. Merlin worked passionately at building his business until his retirement in 1993. The business remains family-owned and operated by Jeff and Lenore Jones of Plymouth.

Merlin and Margot brought their family to Plymouth in 1969. Their survivors include daughter Sheri & Jim Thompson, of Reed City Michigan, son Jeff & Lenore Jones, of Plymouth, and son Jonathan Jones, of Plymouth. "Papa" was adored by grandchildren Tyler, Tisa and Trevan Thompson, all in Michigan, and Brandon and Taylor Jones, of Plymouth. Merlin is also survived by one of his dear sisters, Sylvia Blanding, of Kansas.

In keeping with Merlin and Margot's plans, it is the family's wishes that memorial contributions be offered to the Marshall County Community Foundation's Merlin and Margot Jones Scholarship Fund.

According to Merlin's wishes, there will be no visitation. Family will warmly welcome friends at a gathering fellowship and remembrance at Merlin and Margot's home, at a date yet to be determined.
