Herrold (Shorty) Henderson

passed away Aug. 28, 2008 and resided in Lake Havasu City, AZ.

Herrold J. "Shorty" Henderson of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, formerly of Plymouth, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2008, at the Polidori Hospice House in Lake Havasu City.

Herrold was born on February 8, 1923, to Orville "Pug" and Iris Henderson. On February 13, 1949 Herrold and Nancy L. Bowel were married . Nancy died on January 14, 2001.

While Herrold lived in Plymouth, he worked at Don's Parlor and the Bear Cat Store. After moving to Los Angles, California, he was a zone manager for 13 western states, plus Alaska and Hawaii, with Whitaker Cable Corporation. He belonged to a Drum and Bugle Corps and marched in many parades and special events, in Plymouth and the surrounding area. He was a member of a Marine Corps League, Lake Havasu Detachment.

Herrold is survived by his son, James and Mitzi Henderson; his grandchildren, Dina and Brian; and his great-grandson, Aidan all of Spokane, Washington. Also surviving is his sister, Hazel (Bill) Henderson of Plymouth.

Funeral services have taken place in Lake Havasu City. Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563, is handling the local arrangements.

Katherine (Katie) Cherry
Born on Apr. 18, 1923
passed away Aug. 28, 2008 and resided in Plymouth, IN.

Katherine "Katie" R. Cherry, 85, passed away, Thursday, August 28, 2008, at Miller's Manor Nursing Home in Plymouth, Indiana.

She was born on April 18, 1923, the third of four children, to William and Agnes Walker. Katherine and Cecil Cherry were married in 1944, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Katherine worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 32 years. After retirement, she and Cecil moved to Florida and enjoyed their "golden years" together, until Cecil's death in 1993.

Katherine liked to travel, play golf, watch television and game shows, and work crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Whiteman of Plymouth; her sisters, Theresa Moore of Beech Grove, Indiana and Betty Cooper of Plainfield, Indiana. Katherine was blessed with four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Cherry; her daughter, Judy Ann McGuire; and her sister Margaret Murello.

Funeral services will be at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Floral Park, in Indianapolis, on Wednesday, September 3, 2008, at 12:00 noon. Visitation will be at the funeral center on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in Floral Park cemetery.

Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563, is handling the local arrangements.

Nel VanderVelden
Born in Delftgauw, Holland on Oct. 17, 1925
passed away Aug. 27, 2008 and resided in Walkerton, IN.

Nel C. VanderVelden, age 82, of 1929 North Redwood Road, Walkerton, Indiana, passed away at 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at her home.

Nel was born on October 17, 1925 in Delftgauw, Holland, to Gerard and Gertruida (Welling) Gehoog. Nel and Jacob J. VanderVelden were married on July 1, 1948. They were married for 56 years and together raised their five children. The VanderVelden's had resided in the La Porte, Indiana area, from 1962 until 1972. In 1972 they moved to the Walkerton area. Jacob passed away on May 18, 2005. Nel was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Walkerton.

Nel is survived by her sons, Gerard and Karen VanderVelden of La Porte, Indiana, John and Jacqueline VanderVelden of Walkerton, and James and Laurie VanderVelden of Walkerton; her daughters, Joyce and Michael Wright of Walkerton and Dorothy and Mark Goss of Plymouth, Indiana. Also surviving are Nel's two sisters and three brothers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob, two of her sisters, and one of her brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. (9:30 a.m. La Porte time) at The First Presbyterian Church, in Walkerton, with the Rev. David Detamore officiating. Burial will be in Morris cemetery in La Paz, Indiana.

A time of visiting with the family, will be on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. La Porte time) at the VAN GILDER FUNERAL HOME, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563, and from 10:00 a.m. (9:00 a.m. La Porte time), until the time of the service at 10:30 a.m. (9:30 a.m. La Porte time), at the First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday.

Memorial contributions may be given to The First Presbyterian Church, 512 Georgia Street, Walkerton, Indiana, 46574.

Johnney Chupp

Johnney L. Chupp, age 58, of 11217 10th Road, Plymouth, Indiana, passed away at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2008, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth.

Johnney was born on August 7, 1950 in Mishawaka, Indiana, to Fred and Mary (Carson) Chupp. Johnney proudly served his country for 17 years in the United States Army. During that time he served in Vietnam. He was employed by Husband Exterminators in Plymouth.

Johnney is survived by his son, Eddie A. Han Chupp; his father, Fred and Ruth Chupp of Winamac, Indiana; his mother, Mary Bennett; his sister, Susana Hunnictt of Willmar, Minnesota; and his brother, Danny Chupp of Plymouth.

The VAN GILDER FUNERAL HOME, 300 West Madison Street Plymouth, Indiana, 46563, is handling the arrangements. There will be no visitation or funeral services.

Leonard Fish

Leonard Lee Fish, 67, of 15991 6th Road, Plymouth, Indiana, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2008, at 2:00 a.m., at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, in Chicago, Illinois.

Leonard was born on March 31, 1941, in Argos, Indiana, to Lloyd and Florence (Vance) Fish. On January 20, 1962, Leonard Fish and Judy Reese were married . He served his country in the Army National Guard, in Indiana. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, and working in his garden. He loved to be with his family and loved his grandchildren. Leonard retired in 2003 from Bomarko, in Plymouth, where he was a pressman.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Fish; their children, Melody (Orville) Pitts of Plymouth, Dorraine (Dale) Freck, Sr., of Plymouth, Lisa (Keenan) Burch of LaPaz, Indiana, Leonard (Stephanie) Fish of Bremen, Indiana, and Kevin (Rachel) Fish of Crosby, Minnesota; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary Sobierski of Glendale, Arizona; his brothers, Donald Fish of Plymouth and Donald Pearish of Bremen, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Fear.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at 10:30 a.m., at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, in Plymouth, with the Rev. Norman Reimer officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove cemetery, Argos, Indiana.

A time of visiting with the family will be on Monday, August 4, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563.

Mary Bolinger

Mary A. Bolinger, age 78, of 709 West Garro Street, Plymouth, Indiana, passed away at 5:40 p.m., Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend, Indiana.

Mary was born on June 25, 1930, in Plymouth, to John and Cecilia (Sester) Bolinger and was a lifetime member of Saint Michael Catholic Church, Plymouth.

She is survived by her brother, Joseph Bolinger of Grand Rapids, Michigan; her sister-in-law Mary Bolinger of Michigan City, Indiana; her nieces and nephews, Katie Bolinger of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, Grace (Craig) Burrows of Rockford, Michigan, Janet Ortegon of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, John (Hiroe) Bolinger of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and Christine (Lee) Harshbarger of Evansville, Indiana. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, John Bolinger, Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 28, 2008, at 10:30 a.m., at Saint Michael Catholic Church in Plymouth, with the Rev. Father William Kummer officiating. Burial will be in Saint Michael cemetery, Plymouth.

Family and friends are invited to share in a time of visiting on Sunday, July 27, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563. Rosary will be prayed together at 6:00 p.m., on Sunday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 112 South Center Street, Plymouth Indiana, 46563.

Ernestine Greene
Born in Bloomington, Illinois on Apr. 23, 1919
passed away Jul. 9, 2008 and resided in Plymouth, IN.

Ernestine G. Greene, age 89, of 907 West Harrison Street, Plymouth, Indiana, passed away at the home of her grandson, John Thomas Rhoads, on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at 10:45 p.m.

Ernestine was born on April 23, 1919, in Bloomington, Illinois, to William Ernest and Gertrude (Canada) Cox. Orphaned at the age of 12, she was raised by her foster parents, Charles and Mattie Reed of San Jose, Illinois. She graduated from San Jose High School in 1938.

On April 18, 1946, Ernestine and C. Raymond Greene were married in Danville, Illinois. They moved to Plymouth in 1950. She had been a nursing assistant for several years, then worked and retired from Wagner Wire, Plymouth, in 1981. She was a lifelong member of the Plymouth Moose Lodge and belonged to the House of the Lord Church in Plymouth.

Ernestine is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Louise Tucker of Plymouth; her sons, Terry R. Greene of Walkerton, Indiana and Timothy R. Greene of Andrews, Texas; 13 grandchildren, including Sunday Faith Peregrine and John Thomas Rhoads, whom she raised following the death of their mother, Carolyn Marie Rhoads; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ernestine was preceded in death by her husband, C. Raymond Greene in January of 1992; three children, Charles Russell "Rusty" Greene, Carolyn Marie (Greene) Rhoads, and Guy Randall Greene; her parents; her foster parents; two brothers; and one sister.

Visitation will be on Monday, July 14, 2008, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563.

Funeral services will be held, at Van Gilder Funeral Home, on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at 10:30a.m., with the Rev. Stephen Patrick officiating. Burial will be in New Oak Hill cemetery, Plymouth.

Memorial contributions may be made to the House of the Lord, 16493 Lincoln Highway, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563 or to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 112 South Center Street, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563.

Loretta West

Loretta A. West, 63, of 305 South Plum Street, Plymouth, Indiana, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2008, at 8:53 a.m. at her home.

She was born on November 6, 1944, in Plymouth to Eugene and Geraldine (Frohning) Keller. She was a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Loretta is survived by her mother, Geraldine Keller of Plymouth; her daughter, Tina and Jose Fernandez of Plymouth; her sons, John Hatfield, Ed Hatfield, Rick and Becky Hatfield, and Bill Hatfield all of Plymouth; six grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren; her sisters, Rose and Don Campbell of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Karen and Larry Pontius of Plymouth, Linda and Chris Knill of Plymouth; her brothers, Donald and Kathie Keller of Florida, Phillip and Linda Keller of Plymouth, John and Lydia Keller of Plymouth, Eugene and Cindy Keller of Argos, Indiana, Kenneth and Terri Keller of Plymouth, Alan and Lorra Keller of Plymouth, and Kevin and Bridget Keller of Plymouth. She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Keller and her brothers, James Keller and Patrick Keller.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at 10:30 a.m., at the Van Gilder Funeral Home in Plymouth, with the Rev. Father William Kummer officiating. Burial will be in Saint Michael cemetery, Plymouth.

A time of visiting and sharing with the family will be on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563.

Martha (Hoge) Swihart
Born in Auglaize County, Ohio on Dec. 30, 1907
passed away Jun. 27, 2008 and resided in Plymouth, IN.

Martha M. Hoge Swihart, age 100, of 635 Oak Hill Ave, Plymouth, Indiana, formerly of Argos, Indiana, passed away at 2:50 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2008, at Miller's Merry Manor in Plymouth, where she had been a resident since 1988.

Martha was born on December 30, 1907, in Auglaize County, Ohio, to Lewis H. and Elizabeth (Settlage) Hoge. A graduate of Argos High School and Manchester College, she was a teacher at Talma, Indiana and Gas City, Indiana. Martha was an active member of the former Argos Progress Club. On July 3, 1945, in Rochester, she married Sam R. Swihart, who preceded her in death on January 14, 1979. In December of 2007 she observed her 100th birthday.

Martha is survived by her daughters, Sally and Larry McKee of Plymouth, Suzanne and Clarence Draper of Georgetown, Texas, and Mary Lunde of DeMotte, Indiana; her grandchildren, David Wheeler of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Mary Wheeler of Indianapolis, Indiana, Linda Draper of Georgetown, Texas, Gordon Draper of Bryan, Texas, and Douglas McKee of Bangkok, Thailand; her great-granddaughter, Jenna McKee of Bangkok, Thailand; her sister-in-law Mildred Hoge of Avon, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. Martha was preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary Hoge; a sister, Rachel Hoge Zumpfe, and her brothers, Howard, Harold, and Paul Hoge.

The VAN GILDER FUNERAL HOME, 300 West Madison Street, Plymouth, Indiana, 46563, is handling the arrangements. Graveside services will be held on Monday, July 7, 2008, at 11:00 a.m., in New Oak Hill cemetery, Plymouth, with the Rev. Henry Sprunger officiating.

VENEDA AND BOB PALMER

Veneda M. Palmer, age 73, of 12589 Rose Road, Plymouth, Indiana, passed away at 2:20 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2008, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Veneda was born on August 5, 1934, in Plymouth, Indiana, to Arthur and Pearl (Bradley) McQuisten. On August 24, 1952, Veneda and Robert J. Palmer were married . Together they ran their family business, Peaceful Meadows Campground in Plymouth. Veneda was the secretary for the Campground. She was also the secretary for their other business, Bob's Electric, but her greatest joy was being a wife and mother.

Veneda is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Robert J. Palmer; their daughter, Linda S. Palmer, of Plymouth; their son, Robert M., Jr. and Valora Palmer of Culver, Indiana; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her sisters, Mable and Bud Griggs of Mishawaka, Indiana, and Margaret Sherwood of Plymouth; and her brother, Russell McQuisten of Plymouth.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at the Van Gilder Funeral Home, Plymouth, with the Rev. James Irwin officiating. Burial will be in Maxinkuckee I.O.O.F. cemetery, Culver.

A time of visiting with the Palmer family, will be on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the VAN GILDER FUNERAL HOME, 300 West Madison Street Plymouth, Indiana, 46563
