Sister Jean Michael (Beatrice Mary) Rafferty

Sister Jean Michael Rafferty, 82, of St. Mary of the Woods, died at 7:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, in St. Genevieve Convent in Chicago. She was a teacher. She was born July 29, 1920, in Chicago, to Patrick J. Rafferty and Catherine Moriarty Rafferty. Survivors include two sisters, Mary Ellen Chance and Helen C. Mulligan, both of Chicago; and one brother, Bart Rafferty of Rockford, Ill. She was preceded in death by one brother, William Rafferty; and one sister, Catherine Margaret Rafferty. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence on July 21, 1939, and professed First Vows Jan. 23, 1942, and Final Vows Jan. 23, 1948. She taught in schools staffed by the Sisters of Providence in Indiana, Illinois and Oklahoma. She ministered at St. Genevieve School and Parish in Chicago for 32 years. Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Church of the Immaculate Conception with the Rev. Daniel R. Hopcus officiating. Burial is in the cemetery of the Sisters of Providence. Wake is 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Providence Hall with the wake service at 4:30 p.m. in the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Visitation is 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. today in St. Genevieve Church in Chicago with mass at 7 p.m. Callahan Funeral home assisted with arrangements.

Jessie May Reynolds

Jessie May Reynolds, 83, of Terre Haute, died at 5:40 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, in Meadows Manor North. She was a homemaker. She was born June 25, 1919, in Jasper County, to Bruce Walden and Myrtle O'Dell Walden. Survivors include four daughters, Irene Reynolds of Terre Haute, Dixie Westberry of Terre Haute, Mary Reynolds of Olney and Frankie Brady and husband, Bob of Glen Carbon; two sisters, Cloene Williams of DuQouin, Ill., and Edith Bellinger of Lakeland, Fla.; one brother, Samuel Walden of Olney; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Irene Matson. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Tuesday in Block cemetery near Hazel Dell, Ill., with the Rev. Bob Brady officiating. Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Daniel Orville Stewart Jr.

Daniel Orville Stewart Jr., 24, of Terre Haute, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002. He was born Dec. 26, 2002, in Salinas, Calif., to Catherine Williams Stewart and Daniel Orville Stewart Sr. Survivors include his father; mother and step-father, Catherine Burgess and Michael Burgess; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Williams and Chuck and Lynn Burgess; grandmothers, Lee Annette Dabbs and Catherine Hauck; two brothers, David Stewart and Joshua Burgess; two aunts, Christy Russell and Linda Stewart; two uncles, Larry Williams and Steven Norton; and one special friend, Brooke Hayes. Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday in Mattox-Wood Funeral Home. Cremation is scheduled.

Gary G. Willard

Gary G. Willard, 57, of Terre Haute, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, in Myrtle Beach, S.C. He was born July 29, 1945, in Vigo County, to Don H. Willard and Ina Lee Hedges. Survivors include two sisters, Donna Long and Nancy Wicks; one aunt; two cousins; eight nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday in DeBaun Idaho Street Chapel with the Rev. Scott Combs officiating. Burial is in Hull cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Beryl Bullerdick

BRAZIL - Beryl Bullerdick, 90, of Brazil, died at 4:25 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born Aug. 11, 1912, in Clay County, to Milligan Bryan and Myrtle "Turpin" Bryan. Survivors include three daughters, Patrician Rowings, Sandra Reese and Carolyn Paver; one son, Donald Bullerdick; two sister-in-laws, 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday in Moore Funeral Home with the Rev. Lyle Monnett officiating. Burial is in Poland Chapel cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

William W. Crockett

MONTEZUMA - William W. Crockett, 70, of Montezuma died at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, in his residence. He retired from Duneland School Corporation as assistant superintendent after 20 years. He was born Aug. 4, 1932, in Montezuma to Roy Crockett and Eana M. Jared Crockett. Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou Johns Crockett, whom he married Aug. 12, 1951; two sons and daughters-in-law, William R. and Vicki Crockett of Chesterton and Charles R. and Rose Crockett of Evansville; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Alice Fortner; and one brother, Roy Crockett Jr. He graduated from Montezuma High School and attended college for seven years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of the National Association of Secondary Principals and Wabash Presbyterian Church. He was instrumental in starting radio station WDSO at Chesterton High School. Cremation is scheduled. Brown Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Duneland School Corporation, Radio Station WDSO c/o Chesterton High School, 700 W. Porter, Chesterton, IN 46304.

Lloy June Gilliatt

STAUNTON - Lloy June Gilliatt, 93, of Staunton, died at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, in Clay Health Center. She was born June 3, 1909, in Clay County, to Luther and Nellie Mae Gregory Reynolds. Her husband, Thomas Lyle Gilliatt, died in 1967. Survivors include one daughter, Jill Nussel; two granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in French Funeral Home with the Rev. David Brown officiating. Burial is in Clearview cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Wednesday.

Kathryn J. Smith

WAVERLY - Kathryn J. Smith, 59, of Waverly, died at 5:26 p.m. Saturday Oct. 12, 2002, in Community South Hospital in Indianapolis. She was a cook for Waverly Elementary School for seven years. She was born Oct. 11, 1943, in Terre Haute, to William V. Cahill and Marie "Cassidy" Cahill. Survivors include her husband, Byron Keith Smith, whom she married June 18, 1971; one son, Jeff Smith of Indianapolis; one daughter, Ginny Collins and husband Gary of Camby; and two granddaughters, Katlyn and Karley Collins of Camby. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Wade Smith. She was a 1961 graduate of Terre Haute Schulte High School and was a member of New Beginnings Church in Waverly where she was also an organist. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday in Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville with the Rev. Tom Richey officiating. Burial is in Odd Fellows cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

David E. Bays

David E. Bays, 53, of Terre Haute died at 7:12 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2003, in his residence. He was a former conductor with ConRail. He was born Nov. 8, 1949, in Clay County to Warren Bays and Alma Louise Laughner Bays. Survivors include his wife, Florence "Vickie" Bays; one son, Shawn Bays and his wife, Stacy of Crystal Lake, Ill.; one sister, Becky Malone of Parke County; two brothers, Warren Bays and John Bays, both of Terre Haute; his father-in-law, Fred Sutton of Terre Haute; two grandchildren, Skylar Bays and Madison Bays; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday in Callahan Funeral Home, with Verity Jones officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Evelyn Yvonne Corridan

Evelyn Yvonne Corridan, 86, of Terre Haute died Friday afternoon, May 30, 2003, in Meadows Manor Convalescent & Rehabilitation Center. She was a photographer for Root's Department Store and also for Indian Acres Deli & Catering. She was born Oct. 29, 1916, in Goodland to Clinton C. Thorpe and Henrietta Bork Thorpe. Her husband, Joseph L. Corridan, died November 1990. Survivors include two daughters, Nadine Garvin and her husband, Don and Nikki Davis, all of Terre Haute; four grandchildren, David Rainbolt and Lindsay Garvin, both of Terre Haute, Kelly Norton and her husband, Terry of Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and Christina Rainbolt of Indianapolis; six great-grandchildren, Jason Einstandig of Terre Haute, Andy Thomas of Paris, Ill., Amber Norton, Casey Norton and Donovan Norton, all of Kansas, and Mackenzie Shipman of Indianapolis; one sister-in-law, Georgianna Pargin of Lawrenceville, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, James Thorpe. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 528 of Twelve Points. Services are 11 a.m. Monday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Rev. Mark Shaffer officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Gladys Maxwell McChesney

Gladys Maxwell McChesney, 88, of Terre Haute died at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2003, in Royal Oaks Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. She was a nanny to many children in Vigo County. She was born Sept. 19, 1914, in Waverly, Tenn., to Robert Hurdle Maxwell and Cophelia Maxwell. Her husband, Wilson McChesney, died July 25, 2000. Survivors include two daughters, Betty Willis of Long Beach, Calif., and Theresa Liston of Terre Haute; one daughter-in-law, Mery Ellen Dibetham of La Mesa, Calif.; one brother, John Maxwell of Los Angles; one grandson, Christopher Maxwell Sr. of Spring Valley, Calif.; two granddaughters, Lorie Ann Price-Cozee of Indianapolis and Robin Price of Terre Haute; one great-grandson, Christopher Maxwell Jr., of Spring Valley; three great-granddaughters, Jessica LeAnn Gabbard of Phoenix, Ariz., Kim Nicole Bates and Bryana BenGilder, both of Terre Haute; three nieces, Rhonda Maxwell, Tisa Maxwell and Schacovonne Maxwell, all of Los Angles; and one great-niece, Nicole Maxwell of Los Angles. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Colonel Hurdle L. Maxwell. Services are 11 a.m. Monday in Dunn Family Mortuary, with the Rev. Henry Barnhill officiating. Burial is in Grandview cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Monday.

Lawrence Owen 'Bud' Ross

Lawrence Owen "Bud" Ross, 79, of West Terre Haute died at 8:47 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2003, in his residence. He retired as a frame mechanic with West Frame Co., in Terre Haute. He was born April 19, 1924, in West Terre Haute to John Robert Ross and Mary Elizabeth Clark Ross. Survivors include his wife, Betty L. Ross, whom he married Sept. 10, 1951, in Sparks, Nev.; two daughters, Kathleen Ross of Louisville, Ky., and Elaine Abel of Terre Haute; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Juli Ross of West Terre Haute; six grandchildren, 1st Lieutenant Brandon Abel of Tyndall Air Force Base, Airman Elliot Abel of the 181st Air Guard, Aaron Abel of Terre Haute, Emily Ross, Sarah Ross and Leah Ross, all of West Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and attained the rank of Seaman 2nd Class. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ray Ferren officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6574. According to his wishes cremation is scheduled. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 7 a.m. until services Tuesday.
