BRAZIL - Virginia R. Heartwell, 81, of Brazil died at 5:25 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, in St. Vincent Clay Hospital. She was born Nov. 17, 1920, in Indianapolis to Charles Spargur Sr. and Ruth Fate Spargur. Her husband, Keith Heartwell, died in June 1997. Survivors include five daughters, Sandy S. Stansbury, Diane "Pat" Hartung, Nancy C. Coleman, Jakki C. Cox and Denise Jennifer Underwood; one brother, Charles Spargur Jr.; one sister, Margie Owens; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in Miller Memorial Chapel, with Lloyd Jenkins officiating. Burial is in Union cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Wednesday.

William Hunt

ST. BERNICE - William Hunt, 67, of St. Bernice died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, in Veterans Affairs Hospital in Danville, Ill. He was born Aug. 15, 1934, in Libertyville to Oscar Hunt and Doris Riley Hunt. Survivors include his wife, Gaile Wallace Hunt; two daughters, Susan Diane Harney and Billie Lynn Hunt; six sons, Douglas Blaine Hunt, Gregory Scott Hunt, Jeffrey Mason Hunt, Brian Alan Hunt, William Blaine Hunt Jr. and Dustin Lee Hunt; three sisters, Annabelle Cole, Sharon Pitts and Martha Ann Peters; 19 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday in Frist Funeral Home in Clinton, with the Rev. Doug Davis officiating. Burial is in Shirley cemetery, with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 108. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Donald L. Gibbs

Donald L. Gibbs, 67, of Dewey. Ariz., and formerly of Terre Haute and Sullivan County died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, in Scottsdale (Ariz.) Memorial Hospital. He was born May 1, 1935, in Terre Haute to Cecil Gibbs and Bernice Bennett Gibbs. Survivors include his wife, Ina R. Kirk; two sons, Douglas L. Gibbs and Stuart Gibbs; one sister, Carol Ann Turner; and two grandchildren. Memorial services and visitation are 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday in Newkirk's Funeral Home in Dugger.

Harry C. Schwartz

Harry C. Schwartz, 90, of Terre Haute died at 6:50 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2002, in Union Hospital. He was an insurance salesman. He was born July 16, 1911, in Kansas, Ill., to Charles W. Schwartz and Emma McDanial Schwartz. His wife, Ruth Martin Schwartz, died Jan. 23, 1998. Survivors include one son, Hugh Schwartz and his wife, Barbara of Terre Haute; one sister, Doris Kuykendall of Terre Haute; two grandchildren, Amy McGill and her husband, Jack of Terre Haute and Tony Schwartz, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Persian Gulf; two great-grandchildren, Anthony McGill and Ansley McGill, both of Terre Haute; one nephew, John Kuykendall and his wife, Connie of Terre Haute; one niece, Julie Rowe of Terre Haute; and three great-nieces, Heidi Charters, Gretchen Engle and Heather Rowe. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, and he enjoyed making picture frames. Services are 1 p.m.today in Callahan Funeral Home, with the Rev. Phyllis Peters officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services.

Mildred I. McGhee

DUGGER - Mildred I. McGhee, 83, of Wyoming, Ill., and formerly of Dugger died at 8:43 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2002, in Toulon Health Care Center in Wyoming. She was born April 16, 1919, in Pleasantville to Homer Montgomery and Stella Houldson Montgomery. Her husband, Herbert McGhee, died Feb. 15, 1967. Survivors include two daughters, Ginger Carlisle and Kay Griffith; one son, Rick McGhee; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday in First Christian Church, with the Rev. John Booker officiating. Burial is in Dugger cemetery. Visitation is noon until services, in the church. Newkirk's Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Bobby Allan Moore

ROSEDALE - Bobby Allan Moore, 45, of Rosedale died at 7:50 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2002, while vacationing in Orlando, Fla. He was an electrician with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 725. He was born March 25, 1957, in Granite City, Ill., to Bobby Joe Moore and Geneva George Moore. Survivors include his wife, Cindy Moore; one daughter, Brooke May of Rosedale; one grandson, Zachary Allan Neal; his father, Bobby Joe Moore of Brazil; his mother and stepfather, Geneva and Charles Doughty of Carbon; one sister, Vanessa Kay Moore and her life partner, Vickie of Carbon; paternal grandmother, Irene Blackwell of Brazil; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Luann Oeding of Terre Haute; seven brothers-in-law; nine sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Gregory Moore, in 1978; and his maternal grandparents. Memorial services are 4 p.m. Saturday in his home, with casual dress. Cremation has taken place. His cremains will be buried at a later date in Summit Lawn cemetery in Brazil. Dove Funeral Home and Crematory in Orlando assisted with arrangements.

Bradley D. Runyan

HYMERA - Bradley D. Runyan, 45, of Indianapolis died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, in Hendricks Community Hospital in Danville, Ind. He was born May 29, 1957, in Indianapolis to Duane Runyan and Myrtle Enstrom Runyan. Survivors include his mother; two brothers, David Runyan and Alan Runyan; one sister, Cynthia Runyan; one niece; and one nephew. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday in Baker Funeral Home in Danville, followed by burial at 2 p.m. in K of P cemetery in Hymera.

William R. Brannan

William R. Brannan, 82, of Terre Haute died at 10:24 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in Union Hospital. He was a superintendent at Terre Haute Malleable Co. He was born March 4, 1920, in Blackhawk to William Brannan and Charlotte Watson Brannan. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Eileen Wyatt Brannan; two daughters, Eileen Moore and her husband, Kenneth of Terre Haute and Kathleen Lamb of Bloomington; three sisters, Margaret Dickey of Jonesville, Mich., Betty Kopp of Centralia, Ill., and Mary Roberts of Rockford, Ill.; six grandchildren, Angela Fuqua, Heather Coleman, Laura Lamb, Barbie Lamb-Chiddister, Ryan Lamb and Carl Paul Lamb; and two great-grandchildren, Hailey Hodges and Makenna Chiddister. He was preceded in death by his father; his mother, Charlotte Watson Brannan Gaiter; two brothers, Pat Brannan and Bob Brannan; and one daughter, Colleen Brannan. He was a member of American Legion Post 328 of Riley and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972, and was a life member of Disabled American Veterans. Services are 2 p.m. today in Roselawn Chapel of Memories, for family and close friends, with the Rev. Larry Peelman officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park, with graveside military rites by VFW Post 972. The family suggests, that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972, 1111 Veterans Square, Terre Haute, IN 47807; or, to Visiting Nurses Association of the Wabash Valley, 600 S. First St., Terre Haute, IN 47807. DeBaun Funeral Homes assisted with arrangements.

Frances Christina Gore

Frances Christina Gore, 80, of Terre Haute died at 5:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in Royal Oaks Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. She was born Dec. 5, 1921, in Terre Haute to John Kargl and Christina Gering Kargl. Her husband, Chester Leon Gore, died in 1959. Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Kay Waldbieser and her husband, Joel of Terre Haute; three grandchildren, Christa K. Waldbieser, Michael R. Waldbieser and Heidi J. Moore; and four great-grandchildren, Amanda Waldbieser, Karen Waldbieser, Jacob Moore and Jared Moore. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Fritz Kargl. Services are 11 a.m. today in Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Russ Zint officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m.

Leone E. Guenzel

Leone E. Guenzel, 88, of Terre Haute died at 10:05 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in her residence. She was born Dec. 18, 1913, in Leopolis, Wis., to Gabriel Presl and Mary Kutil Presl. Her husband, Roy J. Guenzel, died in 1998. Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Riddle and Doris J. Betjemann; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Prayers are 9:30 a.m. Monday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial is in Calvary cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with rosary service at 7 p.m.

Sister Julie (Julie Ann) Kramer

Sister Julie Kramer, 62, of St. Mary-of-the-Woods died at 5:35 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002, in Lourdes Hall at St. Mary-of-the-Woods. She was a teacher and a registered nurse. She was born March 1, 1940, in Dayton, Ohio, to George Albert Kramer Sr. and Florence Marie Westendorf Kramer. Survivors include four sisters, Sister Constance Kramer, S.P., of the Sisters of Providence of St. Mary-of-the-Woods, Mary Kramer Leonard of Valparaiso, Susan Kramer Devlin of New London, N.H., and Anne Kramer Nahn of Middleton, Wis.; one brother, George A. Kramer Jr. of Valparaiso; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, William J. Kramer and John and Joseph Kramer, infant twins. She attended grade school at Holy Angels and high school at Julienne High School, both in Dayton. She received her bachelor of arts degree in mathematics from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, her master of science in chemistry from Wayne State University in Detroit, and her bachelor of science in nursing from Indiana University/Purdue University at Indianapolis' School of Nursing, receiving highest distinction. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence Sept. 17, 1962, professed First Vows Aug. 15, 1965 and Final Vows Oct. 4, 1969. She taught in schools staffed by the Sisters of Providence, including grades 5 and 6 at St. Leonard of West Terre Haute from 1965 to 1966, and chemistry and math at Schulte High School from 1972 to 1975. She ministered as a registered nurse in Health Care Services at St. Mary-of-the-Woods from 1997 to 1998 and 2001 to 2002, and served as a volunteer in the Health Care Activity Room. Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Monday in the Church of the Immaculate Conception with the Rev. Barnabas Gillespie, OSB, officiating. Burial is in cemetery of the Sisters of Providence. Wake is 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Providence Hall, with wake service at 4 p.m., in the church. The Callahan Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Helen Marie McKenzie

Helen Marie McKenzie, 72, of Terre Haute died at 7:10 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was a retired supervisor from Reuben H. Donnelly Co. She was born Dec. 23, 1929, in Vigo County to Clint Elkins and Tillie Oberly Elkins. Survivors include her husband, Gerald W. McKenzie; two daughters, Susan Nevill and Brenda Meyer and her husband, Gary; and four grandchildren, Heather Van Gilder, Shawn Nevill, Billy Nevill and Ryan Nevill. She was preceded in death by her parents. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday in DeBaun Idaho Street Chapel, with the Rev. Abe Miller officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Saturday.

LeRoy Nevels

LeRoy Nevels, 68, of Indianapolis and formerly of Terre Haute died July 24, 2002, in Westview Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Dec. 2, 1933, in Terre Haute to Pearle Nevels and Lillie Nevels. Survivors include one daughter, Joy Nevels; and one brother, Paul Nevels. Private services are today in Dunn Family Mortuary, with the Rev. Arnick Shouse officiating. Cremation will follow.

Leora I. Pierce

Leora I. Pierce, 77, of Terre Haute died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, in Union Hospital. She was a clerk for Midwest Supply Electronics for 20 years. She was born Aug. 16, 1924, in Terre Haute to Edgar W. Bonee Sr. and Molly R. Titus Bonee. Her husband, Ray Pierce, died earlier. Survivors include one son, David Pierce and his wife, Connie of Terre Haute; one daughter, Shirley Sparks and her husband, John of Terre Haute; one brother, Edgar Bonee Jr. and his wife, Helen of Flint, Mich.; one sister, Betty Holloway of Terre Haute; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters. She was a member of American Legion Post 104 Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 Auxiliary and Destroyer Escort Sailors Association. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Roselawn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jack Barnard officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today. The family suggests, that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
