Shirley "Marie' Jones Hall

Shirley "Marie" Jones Hall, 89, of Terre Haute died at 3:16 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, in Royal Oaks Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. She was a homemaker. She was born Dec. 7, 1911, in Terre Haute to Allen A. Jones and Ola Warren Jones. Her husband, Andrew T. Hall, died July 21, 1981. Survivors include one son, Tom Hall; one daughter, Anita Schultz and her husband, Robert; four sisters, Lucille Miller, Ruth Taft, Maxine Commons and Sonia Anderson; two brothers, Alfred Jones and Robert Jones; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Vera Stephens; and two brothers, Coyt Jones and Delmar Jones. Services are 2 p.m. Friday in Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Herb officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is noon until services Friday.

Earl Heyen

Earl Heyen, 70, of West Terre Haute died at 8:39 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, in Union Hospital's emergency room. He retired as the owner/operator of Heyen's Grocery Store in West Terre Haute in 1989, after 33 years in business. He was born Jan. 14, 1931, in West Terre Haute to Fred Heyen and Cecil Herrington Heyen. Survivors include his wife, Pat Wilson Heyen, whom he married Dec. 22, 1956, in Terre Haute; three sons, Steve Heyen, Dennis Heyen and Rick Heyen, all of West Terre Haute; one brother, Ronald Heyen of St. Mary-of-the-Woods; two sisters, Beverly Williams of Terre Haute and Lorettta Heyen of Bloomington; one brother-in-law, Charles Wilson Sr., of Florida; one nephews, Charles Wilson Jr.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a member of Eagles Lodge of Terre Haute. Services are 2 p.m. Friday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeff Augustus officiating. Burial is in Dunlap cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Anna Lee Smith Humble

Anna Lee Smith Humble, 77, of Terre Haute died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, in Union Hospital. She was born Jan. 18, 1924, in Terre Haute to Gus Smith and Oral Bridgewater Smith. Survivors include her husband, William F. Humble; one daughter, Rhonda Adams; one brother, William Smith; and four grandchildren. Services are noon Friday in Roselawn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kyle Andrews officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Friday.

Jackie J. Kittle

Jackie J. Kittle, 68, of Terre Haute died at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, in her residence. She was formerly employed as a medical secretary for Associated Anesthesiologists. She was born Sept. 27, 1933, in Indianapolis to John Marshino and Jeanette Hudson Marshino. Survivors include her husband, Carvel Kittle; one daughter, Carla Kittle of Plainfield; one son, Keith Kittle of Orlando, Fla.; her mother, Jeanette Marshino of Terre Haute; one sister, Lois Ann Reaves of Gainesvile, Fla.; and one granddaughter, Kristi Kittle. She was preceded in death by her father. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday in The Callahan Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Westberry officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. The family suggests if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, Texas 75265-0309.

Waunita R. Terry

Waunita R. Terry, 75, of Terre Haute died at 8:23 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born March 5, 1926, in Sullivan to Lex Knew and Mary Gertrude Props Knew. Her husband, Ira Terry Jr., died in 1994. Survivors include one daughter, Janet McKinney; one brother, Robert Knew; one sister, Mary Moyer; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services are 3 p.m. today in Mattox-McHugh Shelburn Chapel, with the Rev. John Booker officiating. Burial is in Westlawn cemetery. Visitation is noon until services.

Oris "Peg' Gambill Lucas

DUGGER - Oris "Peg" Gambill Lucas, 88, of Morristown and formerly of Dugger and Indianapolis died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, in Major Hospital in Shelbyville. She was born Jan. 6, 1913, in Sullivan County to Gerthel Pool and Mary Pool. Her husband, Eugene Gambill, died earlier. Survivors include one brother, Gerthel Pool Jr.; one sister, Mary E. Lloyd; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Morris Chapel cemetery, near Dugger, with the Rev. Selber officiating. Newkirk's Funeral Home in Dugger assisted with arrangements.

Wanda M. Davis

Wanda M. Davis, 85, of Terre Haute died at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, in Union Hospital. She was a homemaker. She was born Sept. 27, 1916, in Vigo County to Ben Trueblood and Lera Bailey Trueblood. Her husband, Francis Leon "Red" Davis, died earlier. Survivors include two sons, Gary A. Davis and his wife Coleen of Cincinnati and Dudley L. Davis and his wife Paula of Pimento; two daughters, Nancy Hodges and her husband Allan of Prairie Creek and Wandell Gabey of Terre Haute; two sisters, Janet Easton of Dallas and Doyne Weir of Prairie Creek; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one stepgreat-great-grandson. She was a member of Prairie Creek Home Extension Club for more than 65 years and Prairie Creek Rebekah Lodge for more than 50 years. She also was a member of Prairie Creek American Legion Post 404 Auxiliary and Mothers of World War II Unit 95. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday in DeBaun Funeral Homes Springhill Chapel. Burial is in Prairie Creek West Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Vernon Keith Ooley

Vernon Keith Ooley, 43, of Evansville died of a cerebral hemorrhage Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, in his residence. He worked for Standard Register. He was the son of Vernon B. Ooley and Daisy Deane Ooley. Survivors include his mother of Terre Haute; four sisters, Marcia Page and her husband Stephen of Scottsdale, Ariz., Vernalee Mitchell and her husband Bob of Cory, Susan Ooley-Viray and her husband John Viray of Terre Haute, and Beth Carpenter and her husband Keith of Cincinnati; one brother, James Ray and his wife Karen of Princeton; one aunt, Frankie Hufnagle of Evansville; three nieces, Jordan Page, Vicki Hazel and Jacki Damm; and four nephews, Rob Ooley-Viray, Michael Ooley-Viray, Justin Mitchell Ooley-Viray and Spencer Ooley-Viray. He was preceded in death by his father in 1994. He was in the U.S. Navy for six years, serving on the USS Kennedy in the computer program division. He also worked for Wright Motors. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Roselawn Memorial Park, with the Rev. Steve Rundel officiating. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. today in Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, 5330 Washington Ave., Evansville. DeBaun Funeral Home Springhill Chapel assisted with local arrangements. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Vanderburgh County Humane Society.

David B. Ritchie

David B. Ritchie, 81, of Harlington, Texas, and formerly of Terre Haute died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, in Valley Baptist Medical Center in Texas. He was born April 6, 1920, in Terre Haute to David and Margaret Ritchie. Survivors include his wife, Eunice Ritchie; one son, Dave Ritchie; one grandson; and one niece. Services are 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel at Highland Lawn cemetery, with the Rev. Brian Pair officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn cemetery. Thomas Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Eugene R. Roman

Eugene R. Roman, 74, of Terre Haute died at 9:45 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, in Union Hospital. He retired in 1991 from Hercules Corp. after 10 years of service. He was born Oct. 23, 1927, in Terre Haute to George R. Roman and Claudine A. Miller Roman. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Wilma Jenkins Roman, whom he married Dec. 1, 1949; three sons, Dennis Roman and his wife Gail, Douglas Roman and his wife Brenda, all of Terre Haute, and Daniel Roman and his wife Leslie of Fishers; two daughters, Judith Phillips of Terre Haute and Janet Kuhn and her husband Fred Kuhn III of Marshall, Ill.; one sister, Alvena Crosby of Terre Haute; one brother, Jack Roman and his wife Louise of Terre Haute; two sisters-in-law, Jean Roman of Terre Haute and Marge Roman of Florida; 11 grandchildren, Cyndi Phillips, Shelby Kuhn, Brian Roman, Kathryn Phillips, Nicholas Roman, Fred Kuhn IV, Abby Kuhn, Selina Roman, Shayne Roman, Brent Roman and Mitchell Roman; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul Roman and Kenneth Roman; and one brother-in-law, Jack Crosby. He was a 1946 graduate of Garfield High School. He also worked at Ethyl Visqueen for 28 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Terre Haute and the Greater Terre Haute Bowling Association, where he was a past president. He was a former Barbershopper and had been a volunteer coach at the Terre Haute Boys Club, Little League Baseball, Babe Ruth Baseball and Connie Mack Baseball. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with the Rev. Bernie Jackson officiating and music by Nancee South Falber. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Terre Haute, 4701 Poplar St., Terre Haute, IN 47803.

Donald M. Talkington

Donald M. Talkington, 78, of Terre Haute died at 4 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, in Harborside Healthcare. He was retired as an underwriter with Forrest Sherer Insurance. He was born June 15, 1923, in Chesterfield, Ill., to Jesse F. Talkington and Eva Mae Murphy Talkington. Survivors include his wife, Verla L. Talkington, whom he married July 17, 1954; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark E. and Ramana Talkington of West Bend, Wis., and Sean A. and Andrea Talkington of South Bend; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia A. and Roy Carlsgaard of Bargersville; eight grandchildren, Jesse Carlsgaard, Allee Carlsgaard, Maegan Carlsgaard, Sydney Carlsgaard, James Talkington, Katy Talkington, Erin Talkington and Mason Talkington; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents; one sister, Virginia Sassenberger; and one son, Michael A. Talkington. He also was retired as an underwriter for Miller's Mutual in Alton, Ill. He was a Navy Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Services are 2:30 p.m. Thursday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Rev. Bert Baker officiating. Entombment is in Roselawn Mausoleum, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 972. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Ernest Brown

BRAZIL - Ernest Brown, 76, of Holly Hill Healthcare died at 8:37 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, in Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was born Feb. 19, 1925, in Brazil to Sanford Brown and Nellie Brown. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Cremation is scheduled. There are no services. Miller Memorial Chapel assisted with arrangements.

Raymond Edward Dean

ROSEDALE - Raymond Edward Dean, 73, of Rosedale died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, in Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville, N.C. He retired from the Terre Haute Coca-Cola Bottling Co. as plant superintendent. He was born March 31, 1928, in Vigo County to Earl R. Dean and Catherine E. Myers Dean. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Smith Dean; one son, John R. Dean of Hendersonville; two daughters, Mary E. Roscoe of Bethel, Wash., and Susan R. McKanna of Terre Haute; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Lodge 19 Free & Accepted Masons. Services are 1 p.m. Thursday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with Dave Perry officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home, with Masonic services at 7 p.m. by Lodge 19 F & AM.

Russell F. "Junior' Kennedy

GREENCASTLE - Russell F. "Junior" Kennedy, 58, of Greencastle died at 11:55 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, in Putnam County Hospital. He was born June 16, 1943, in Owen County to Russell Forrest Kennedy and Eva Marsha Nicholls Kennedy. Survivors include his wife, Kaaren Schopmeyer Kennedy; one daughter, Lori Denger; four sons, Kenny Kennedy, Allen Kennedy, Jon Kennedy and Troy Kennedy; and 15 grandchildren. Services are 3 p.m. Saturday in Whitaker Funeral Home in Cloverdale, with the Rev. Wes McClure officiating. Cremation is scheduled. Visitation is 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
