Homer A. Todd

BRAZIL - Homer A. Todd, 83, of Brazil and formerly Ladoga died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, in St. Vincent Clay Hospital, following an extended illness. He was a rural postal carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Ladoga. He was born Nov. 23, 1919, in Romney to Thomas Todd and Adah Elkins Todd. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marylin Jean Gray Todd, whom he married in Ladoga; one daughter, Julie Houston and her husband, Paul Houston of Brazil; one brother, Harry Todd and his family of Daytona Beach, Fla.; one sister, Mildred Ellison and her husband of Lafayette; four granddaughters, Shannon Willmore and her husband, Matt Willmore, Courtney Houston, Allyson Houston and Kelsey Houston; and two great-grandchildren, Hailynn and Delaney. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Onis Todd, Rhea Todd and Walter Todd, and one son, Tom Todd. Following high school graduation, he worked as a mechanic, and later served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of Ladoga First Presbyterian Church, Ladoga American Legion Post and Ladoga Lions Club. Services are 2:15 p.m. Wednesday in Ladoga cemetery, with the Rev. Gary Scroggins officiating. Burial is in Ladoga cemetery. Visitation is noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday in Services & Morgan Funeral Home in Ladoga. Memorial contributions may be made to ALS Association National Office, 27001 Agoura Road, Suite 150, Calabasas Hills, CA 91301. Envelopes are available in the funeral home. Moore Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Hazel Maloof Ellis

Hazel Maloof Ellis, 86, of Terre Haute died at 3:17 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, in Union Hospital. She was a homemaker. She was born Aug. 25, 1916, in Terre Haute to Charles Maloof and Najla Freije Maloof. Her husband, Carl M. Ellis, whom she married Jan. 30, 1944, died Nov. 6, 1985. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael C. and Nancy R. Ellis of Terre Haute and Carl E. and Patricia S. Ellis of Warsaw; one sister, Martha Maloof of Terre Haute; four grandchildren, Andrea M. Ellis of Indianapolis, Katherine E. Ellis and Christopher M. Ellis, both of Terre Haute, and Paul D. Ellis of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Michael Maloof and Richard Maloof. She was a retired grocer and a chief kibbee maker. Her family was a founding family of St. George Orthodox Church, where she was a member. She was also a member of St. George's Ladies Society, the St. George's Choir, and Sigma Lambda Zeta Sorority. Services of the Orthodox Church are 7:30 p.m. today in the church, with the Very Rev. George M. Rados and the Very Rev. Anthony Yazge officiating, assisted by Deacon Elias Corey. Trisagion prayers are 11 a.m. Thursday in the church, followed by burial in Highlawn Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7:30 p.m. today in the church. The Callahan Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. George Orthodox Church, 1900 S. Fourth St., Terre Haute, IN 47802.

Elvin Franklin Hensley

Elvin Franklin Hensley, 88, of Terre Haute died at 5:10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, in Union Hospital. He was born July 26, 1914, in Sullivan to Henry Hensley and May Hensley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Marie Hulen Hensley. Survivors include one brother, Garland Hensley; one sister, Marie Reneau; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services are 1 p.m. today in New Harmony cemetery. There is no visitation. DeBaun Springhill Chapel assisted with arrangements.

Leonard M. Morris

Leonard M. Morris, 88, of Davis, Calif., and formerly of Terre Haute died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, in Davis.He taught at the University of California at Davis until his retirement in 1990. He was born Aug. 5, 1914, in Terre Haute, the first of six children to Ivan L. Morris and Anna Huster Morris. Survivors include his wife, Marsaille Crandell, Morris, whom he married in 1940; one sister, Maurine Roehm and husband George of Terre Haute; one sister-in-law, Patricia Morris of Terre Haute; one brother-in-law, Frank Pearce of California; 15 nieces and nephews; 24 grandnieces and grandnephews; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Annabel Coyne, Helen Fagg Mitchell and Rose Pearce; and one brother, Ivan Morris. He graduated from Honey Creek High School, received his bachelor's degree from Purdue University and a doctorate in agricultural sciences from Cornell University. He traveled extensively in his capacity as a horticultural consultant in Third World countries, Africa, Central and South America, and Asia, in particular, China. A private burial and memorial service were Jan. 29 in Davis. Davis Funeral Chapel in Davis assisted with arrangements.

Rose Marie Richards

Rose Marie Richards, 85, of West Terre Haute died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, in Union Hospital. She was born Sept. 16, 1917, in Shepardsville to Norven Worley and Rena Waugh Worley. Her husband, Earl Richards, died Feb. 8, 1985. Survivors include one son, Melvyn E. Richards; two daughters, Rena R. Wagner and Karen K. Richards; one brother, Dan Worley; one sister, Martha Wheat; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Services are private. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Roselawn Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Pauline M. Fulton Trout

Pauline M. Fulton Trout, 66, of Lafayette and formerly of Terre Haute died at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, in her residence. She was born Jan. 2, 1937, in Terre Haute. Survivors include her husband, Donald F. Trout; two daughters, Donna Yater and Andrea Barrett; one stepdaughter, Cheryl Gwartney; one brother, William Fulton; two sisters, Joan Whitesell and Lorene Fasel; and seven grandchildren. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday in Evangelical Covenant Church in Lafayette, with the Rev. Dr. John Martz officiating. Entombment is in Rest Haven Memorial Park Mausoleum at Lafayette. Visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday in the church.

Joyce L. Elkins

MONTEZUMA - Joyce L. Elkins, 72, of Montezuma died at 6:10 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, in Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born June 26, 1930, in Danville, Ill., to Vernie Tell Clore and Dorothy Mae Douglass Clore. Her husband, Joseph Ray Elkins, died in June 1990. Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Juhl; two sons, Joseph Elkins and Michael Elkins; two sisters, Mary Ratliff and Joan Adams; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Services are noon Friday in Barnes Mortuary in Rockville, with the Rev. Gene Walls officiating. Burial is in Wolf Creek cemetery in Wallace. Visitation is 10 a.m. to noon Friday.

Norma R. Jones

HYMERA - Norma R. Jones, 72, of Hymera died at 3:20 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, in her residence. She was born Jan. 9, 1931, in Terre Haute to Herman Swalls and Vernice Hawkins Swalls. Survivors include one son, Dr. Ronald G. Kearschner; three daughters, Rita L. Smith, Donna R. Watts and Cathy Stamper; four brothers, David Swalls, Daniel Swalls, Steve Swalls and Carl Swalls; two sisters, Edith Kearschner and Rachel Butler; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services are 1 p.m. Thursday in Mattox-McHugh Funeral Home in Hymera, with David Swalls officiating. Burial is in K of P cemetery in Hymera. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Margaret E. McDonald

BRAZIL - Margaret E. McDonald, 79, of Brazil and formerly of Fort Collins, Colo., died at 9:35 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital from complications of Parkinson's disease. She was a homemaker. She was born Sept. 11, 1923, in Brazil to John Doidge and Verna Cameron Doidge. Her husband, Donald A. McDonald, whom she married Aug. 29, 1954, died Jan. 19, 1971. Survivors include one son, John McDonald and wife Debi of Terre Haute; one daughter, Nancy Trackwell and companion Matt Koch of Fort Collins, Colo.; two granddaughters, Brandy Trackwell and Amber Trackwell; four great-granddaughters; one sister, Ann Ferry of Corralles, N.M.; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents. She was a graduate of Brazil High School. She joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and attended Lakeland College in Florida. She attended the United Methodist Church. Services are 11 a.m. Friday in Lawson-Slack Funeral Home, with the Rev. Curtis Bond officiating. Burial is in Cottage Hill cemetery in Brazil. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Everett C. Myers

NEWPORT - Everett C. Myers, 78, of Newport died at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, in his residence in Newport. He was born Aug. 7, 1924, in Dana to Claude Allen Myers and Zula Warner Myers Myers. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Richardson Myers; two sons, Kenneth Wayne Myers and Terry Lee Myers Sr.; two daughters, Judith Kay Francis and Phyllis Ann Orndorff; five brothers, Forest Myers, Robert Myers, Gerald Myers, Raymond Myers and Marvin "Bud" Myers; four sisters, Ruth Grimm, Helen Walters, Norma Peterson and Dorothy Martin; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday in DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home in Cayuga, with the Rev. Harold Dockey officiating. Burial is in Thomas cemetery at Newport. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.

John Harold Neal

CARLISLE - John Harold Neal, 70, of Carlisle died at 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, in Hospice Care Center in Dade City, Fla. He was a retired state police officer and former Sullivan County commissioner. He was born July 14, 1932, in Sullivan County to Harold Neal and Helen Neal. Survivors include his wife, Jean Neal; his father, Harold Neal; one son, James Neal of Carlisle; and two granddaughters, Alyssa Neal of Lafayette and Pvt. Alainna Neal of Fort Riley, Kan. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Neal Gier. He was a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 911, the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post and Fraternal Order of Police. Cremation is scheduled and services are pending at a later date. Alexander-Kean Funeral Home in Sullivan assisted with arrangements.

Charlotte Williams

KNIGHTSVILLE - Charlotte Williams, 80, of Knightsville and formerly of Indianapolis died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, in Cloverleaf Healthcare. She was born Nov. 10, 1922, in North Carolina to Homer Ray and Ella Gentry Ray. Her husband, John H. "Bud" Williams, died in 1981. Survivors include one son, Dave Williams; two brothers, Ollen Ray and Raymond Ray; one sister, Linda Towns; and two granddaughters. Services are noon in French Funeral Home, with Brother Greg Comp officiating. Burial is 2:30 p.m. Friday in Forest Lawn cemetery in Greenwood. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and before services Friday in the funeral home.

Toni M. Evans

Toni M. Evans, 53, of Ellettsville, formerly of Terre Haute, died at 7:15 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2003, in her residence. She was a legal secretary for Bunger & Robertson Law Firm. She was born Oct. 19, 1949, in Brookfield, Ill., to Edward Meyer and June Strandquist Meyer. Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Keith Evans; son, Brian Evans and his wife, Erin, of Westfield; two daughters, Valerie Evans of Chicago and Tara Pittman and her husband, Brian, with first child on the way, of Brandon, Fla.; three brothers, Lee Meyer and his wife, Carol, of Chapel Hill, N.C., Edward Meyer and his wife, Mary Ann, of Greencastle, and Tim Meyer and his wife, Melissa, of Clarendon Hills, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. John the Apostle Catholic Church at 4607 Indiana 46 in Bloomington with the Rev. Michael Fritsch officiating. Cremation is scheduled. Visitation is 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in care of Day Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third St., Bloomington, IN 47401. Day Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Thermon T. Howard

Thermon T. Howard, 86, of Prairieton, died at 8:15 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2003, in his residence. He was a retired insulator for Insulators Local No. 18. He was born Dec. 8, 1916, in Vigo County to Harry Howard and Nellie Pearson Howard. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Gardner Howard in 1999. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Eddie Myers and Nancy and Mike Davis; three sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Brenda Howard, Mike and Gay Howard and Harry and Penny Howard; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by his parents. He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Prairie Creek American Legion Post 404. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday in DeBaun Funeral Home Springhill Chapel with the Rev. Rick Swan officiating. Burial is in New Harmony cemetery with graveside military services by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Visitation is 10 a.m. to service time Tuesday.

Eileen Carter Meeks

Eileen Carter Meeks, 55, of Ellenton, Fla., formerly of West Terre Haute, died at 11 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2003. She was born Feb. 16, 1950, in Freeport, Maine, to Phyllis Carter and John Carter Sr. Survivors include her husband, Ernest R. Meeks, whom she married Feb. 20, 1990; son, John Owen Piche and his wife, Stephanie, of Terre Haute; daughter, Jackie Williams and her husband, Jeff, of Rosedale; grandson, Ryan Piche of Terre Haute; two stepsons, Ernest R. Meeks II, Rex Roach and his wife, Judy, all of West Terre Haute; three stepdaughters, Anglee Hoopingardner and her husband, Dorn, Michelle Farris and her husband, Scott, all of West Terre Haute, and Melissa Morrison and her husband, Brian, of White House, Texas; three sisters, Sharon Corley of St. Petersburg, Fla., Linda Bailey of Freeport and Karen Smith of Brewerton, N.Y.; two brothers, Terry Carter of Townal, Maine, and John Carter of Ellenton; two brothers-in-law, Herbert R. Davis Jr. and his wife, Diane, and Keith Davis and his wife, Cheryl, all of West Terre Haute; one sister-in-law, Judith Simpson and her husband, Ed, of West Terre Haute; stepfathers, Stewart York of Freeport; father-in-law, Herbert R. Davis Sr. of West Terre Haute; 10 step grandchildren, Amber Gardner, Christopher Gardner, Brandon Hoopingardner, Samuel Morrison, Morgan Farris, Kelsey Farris, Taylor Farris, Justine Placio, Jamie Placio and Ryan Roach. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Clarence Carter. She was a waitress at Denny's restaurant in Terre Haute and a member of Palmento Assembly of God in Ellenton. Memorial service is 3 p.m. Aug. 9 in King's Harvest Foursquare Church in Terre Haute with Dennis Leek officiating. Cremation is scheduled in Florida. Life is like a rainbow, cherish the beauty, too often they leave quickly.
