Wilfred K. 'Brownie' Brown

Wilfred K. "Brownie" Brown, 89, of Terre Haute died at 12:45 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2002, in Union Hospital. He was a retired farmer. He was born Aug. 18, 1912, in Prairie Creek to Harry Brown and Mable Flesher Brown. His wife, Maxine Moore Scott Brown, whom he married Sept. 7, 1963, died April 21, 1995. Survivors include one stepson, Larry Scott and his wife Karen of Farmersburg; three granddaughters, Michelle Scott of Indianapolis, Shannon Scott of West Lafayette and Lyndsey Scott of Farmersburg; and several cousins. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, received a Bronze Star and served on the Naval Destroyer USS Terry, in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of Prairie Creek First Baptist Church, Indiana Farm Bureau and a life member of American Legion Post 404. Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Rev. Ray Dyer officiating. Burial is in Prairie Creek West Lawn cemetery, with graveside military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Virginia L. Hart

The Rev. Virginia L. Hart, 80, of Terre Haute died at 9:34 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2002, in Union Hospital. She was a retired minister. She was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Shelbyville, to Harry James McCrady and Leila McBride McCrady. Survivors include four sons, Michael J. Hart, Harry A. Hart and his wife Lori, James "Larry" Hart and his wife Dianne S. Hart, and Richard A. Hart and his wife Nancy L. Hart; six daughters, Leila Kalen, Sheila Mundy and her husband Jerry, Margarett "Peggy" Goodman and her husband Albert, Nancy R. Martin and Melinda Jan Thoms and her husband Carl; numerous grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 291 Auxiliary and was a member of the F.O.E. Drill and Ritual Team. She was a past pastor of Physic Science Church and a volunteer with the Salvation Army. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday in Mattox-Ryan Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Giannini officiating. Burial is in St. Joseph cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Thomas C. 'Curt' Lloyd

Thomas C. "Curt" Lloyd, 87, of Terre Haute died at 9 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2002, in his residence. He was a salesman with Duenweg Leather Co., retiring in 1985. He was born Jan. 12, 1915, in Terre Haute to Guy Lloyd and Effie Brown Lloyd. His first wife, Winnie Spencer Lloyd; and his second wife, Mary Ruth Evans Lloyd, both died earlier. Survivors include his wife, Leora M. Fuson Lloyd, whom he married Dec. 17, 1988; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy J. and Marvin Stanley of Terre Haute and Julia K. and Kent Douglas of Sallisaw, Okla.; one son and daughter-in-law, Martin Curtis and Charlotte Lloyd of Coatesville; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Dosche of St. Louis and Alice Everly of Terre Haute; one stepson, Leroy E. Pierce and his wife Cheryl; and two stepdaughters, Paulette Kruzan and Annette King and her husband Jerry. He also was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Lou; two sisters, Mary Catherine Thompson and Georgia Mae Plumb; and one brother, John Lloyd. He was a member of Breden Memorial United Methodist Church and also attended Bible Baptist Church. Services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in DeBaun Idaho Street Chapel, with the Rev. David Deal officiating. Burial is in Grandview cemetery. Pallbearers are Thomas A. Stanley, Charles Lloyd, Jim Clayton, Tim Hook, Kevin Johnston and Jeff King. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and noon until services Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley, 600 S. First St., Terre Haute, IN 47807; or to Breden Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Jack K. Mullen

Jack K. Mullen, 77, of Maryvale Apartments at St. Mary-of-the-Woods, died at 3:35 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2002, in Union Hospital. He retired from Ethyl Visqueen Corp., in Terre Haute after 17 years of service. He was born Feb. 8, 1915, in Clark County, Ill., to Dewey Mullen and Lucille Lee Mullen. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Mike Church of Florida; one son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Peggy Mullen of West Terre Haute; two sisters, Eileen Daily and Sue Fields, both of Terre Haute; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nephews; and several nieces, including Mayor Judy Anderson of Terre Haute. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bob Mullen; and one sister, Mary Lorraine Mullen. He was a 1943 graduate of Valley High School and later attended Indiana University in Bloomington, and Indiana State University, where he received a associate's degree. He was an Army veteran of World War II, during which he was involved in the invasion of Normandy Beach, France, for which he received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and a Combat Infantryman Badge. He was a member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6574 in West Terre Haute and attended Eighth Street Wesleyan Church and First Assembly of God Church, both in West Terre Haute. Services are 2:30 p.m. Monday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Archie Brown officiating. Burial is in Bethesda Memorial Park, with graveside military rites by VFW Post 6574. Visitation is 12:30 p.m. until services Monday.

Sophia K. Nidiffer

Sophia K. Nidiffer, 79, of Terre Haute died at 5:45 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2002, in Meadows Manor North Retirement & Convalescent Center. She retired from K Mart as a sales associate. She was born June 18, 1922, in Terre Haute to George Machango and Mary Wrojek Machango. Her husband, Walter "Bud" Nidiffer, died in 1974. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Larry Vanlandingham; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Karen Nidiffer; five grandchildren, Brad Vanlandingham of Orlando, Fla., Brent Vanlandingham and his wife Julie, Chris Nidiffer and Cori Nidiffer, all of Terre Haute, Scott Vanlandingham and his wife Kristie of Louisville, Ky.; and six great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, John Machango and Stanley Machango. She was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 104 and was a member the Ladies Auxiliary of the post, was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles and Disabled American Veterans. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, in Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Mathias officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Jeannine K. Rickards

Jeannine K. Rickards, 36, of Terre Haute died at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2002, in her residence. She was born Oct. 21, 1965, in Rock Island, Ill., to William Rickards and Mary A. Davis Rickards. Survivors include her father and stepmother, William and Trish Rickards of Canton, Mo.; one brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Angie Rickards of Lebanon; one sister and brother-in-law, Madge A. and Dave Connelley of Downs, Ill.; three nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother. She was a 1985 graduate of Bloomington High School and attended Indiana State University. She was a volunteer with Ryves Hall Youth Center and attended Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. Memorial services are 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2002, in the church with the Rev. Aaron Wheaton officiating. Cremation is scheduled. There is no visitation. Mattox-Ryan Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Ryves Hall Youth Center, 1356 Locust St., Terre Haute, IN 47807.

Gladys Marie Watterson

Gladys Marie Watterson, 81, of Terre Haute died at 7:10 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2002, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born Feb. 16, 1921, in Vigo County to Otto Adams and Lilly Mae Stone Adams. Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Watterson; and one sister, Rosalie Lampkins. Cremation is scheduled. A service of remembrance is 10:30 a.m. Sunday, April 7, 2002, in Terre Haute Bible Center, with the Rev. Jerry Nash officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn cemetery. DeBaun Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Max B. Foster

CAYUGA - Max B. Foster, 85, of Cayuga died at 10:10 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2002, in Vermillion Convalescent Center in Clinton. He was born April 19, 1916, in Cayuga to Clarence Foster and Blanche Richardson Foster. Survivors include his wife, Berniece Samuels Foster; one son, Myron N. Foster; one brother, Robert L. Foster; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday in DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home, with the Revs. Andy Spencer and Steve Vitaniemi officiating. Burial is in Silver Island cemetery in rural Kingman. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Nolan Tom Reeves

LINTON - Nolan Tom Reeves, 67, of Linton died at 6:21 p.m., Friday, March 29, 2002, in Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was born March 25, 1935, in Dugger to John Reeves and Alice Edington Reeves. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Williams Reeves; one son, Johnny Reeves; two stepdaughters, Heather Bledsoe and Tammy Decker; one stepson, Michael Cullison; one sister, Mary Ross; one half brother, James Dawson; two grandchildren; and three step grandchildren. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday in Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel, with the Rev. Shannon Berham officiating. Burial is in Fairview cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Ruth Jean Jackson Stephens

BRAZIL - Ruth Jean Jackson Stephens, 79, of Brazil and formerly of Cory died at 6:12 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2002, in St. Vincent Clay Hospital. She retired in 1986 from Silver Burdett, after five years of service. She was born July 13, 1922, in Vigo County to Herbert J. Jackson and Eva I. Coble Jackson. Survivors include her husband, LaPip "Steve" Stephens, whom she married June 28, 1951, in Indianapolis; one daughter, Bonnie Thorne; one granddaughter, Katie Thorne; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jesse A. and Nina Jackson, and James W. and Mary Jackson, all of Terre Haute; three sisters, Della Crichfield of Terre Haute, Norma L. Rector of Clay City, and Doris M. Monday and her husband Gary of Brazil; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was a former member of Cory Zion Church and enjoyed crocheting, and playing the organ and piano. Services are 1 p.m. Monday in Schoppenhorst Funeral Home in Clay City, with the Rev. Jerry Caskey officiating. Burial is in Cory Zion cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Monday.

Marylou Bailey

Marylou Bailey, 70, of Franklin, Ky., and formerly of Terre Haute died at 8:35 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in the Medical Center of Bowling Green, Ky. She was born Dec. 15, 1931, in Terre Haute to Frank Lloyd and Cordelia Lloyd. Her husband, Daniel Harbaugh, died in 1968. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Danielle and Doug Dail; one grandson and his wife, Christopher and April Bailey; one great-granddaughter, Shauna Danielle Bailey; two sisters, Ruby Humble and Beverly Campbell; one brother-in-law, Bill Campbell; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial services are 5 p.m. Thursday in Eastside Church of Christ, 4025 College Ave. The family suggests, that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity or church of the donor's choice. J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home in Bowling Green assisted with arrangements.

Enola Cartwright

Enola Cartwright, 83, of Terre Haute died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was a bookkeeper for Roots Department Store and Quaker Maid. She was born Jan. 12, 1919, in Rockville to Augustine W. Scank and Mary Burton Scank. Her husband, Arthur Cartwright, died earlier. Survivors include one son, Douglas Cartwright of Terre Haute; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Cartwright of Terre Haute; one grandson, Jeffrey Cartwright and his wife, Charlotte of Clyde, Texas; one granddaughter, Jennifer Brown and her husband, Chris of Terre Haute; five great-grandchildren, Lauren, Drew, Jordan, Will, and Abigail; one brother, Bill Scank of Terre Haute; one sister-in-law, Betty Scank of Terre Haute; one brother-in-law, Clifford Cartwright; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday in Roselawn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bernie Jackson officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Wednesday.

Lloyd Henry Cottee

Lloyd Henry Cottee, 91, of Indianapolis and formerly of Terre Haute died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, in St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. His wife, Frances Knox Cottee, died earlier. Survivors include eight children, Ronald Cottee, Lloyd Cottee Jr., Virginia Ross, Donald Cottee, Judith Tribble, Pauletta Eleison, Floyd Ewing II and Larry Ewing; one sister, Mary McDonald; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in Ed Lee Mortuary in Washington. Burial is in Hawkins cemetery in Washington. Visitation is 11:30 a.m. until services Wednesday.

Donald R. Marshall

Donald R. Marshall, 62, of Terre Haute died Sunday evening, Aug. 25, 2002, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He formerly owned Don Marshall's Service at 19th and Hulman streets for 30 years, and most recently worked for the Indiana Department of Transportation. He was born June 22, 1940, in West Terre Haute to Clifford Marshall and Ladonia Price Marshall. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Marguerite Lamb Marshall; three children, Kim Streeter and her husband, Bill of Terre Haute, Kent Marshall of Chambersburg, Pa., and Kris Marshall of Monterey, Calif.; six grandchildren, Alexa Marshall, Taylor Marshall, Donald Marshall, Megan Streeter, Katherine Streeter and Madison Marshall; one brother, Jerry Lee Marshall; one brother-in-law, Volney Lamb and his wife, Linda of Las Vegas, Nev.; several cousins, including Lee P. McDonald of Pekin, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert Lemmons and Ernest Dale Lemmons; and one sister, Carolyn Marshall. He was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School and attended Indiana State University. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, and most recently attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. He served in the Army and was a member of Wayne Newton American Legion Post 346, Sycamore Country Club, Riley Lions Club, Senior Friends and Special Interest Car Club. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Active pallbearers are Robert Lester, Robert Mattox, Richard Hampton, Robert Parsons and Rick Caton. Honorary pallbearers are Dennis Murphy and William Streeter Jr. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley, 600 S. First St., Terre Haute, IN 47807.

Harold Eugene Morgan

Harold Eugene Morgan, 82, of Owensville and formerly of Terre Haute died at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in the Petersburg (Ind.) Health Care Center. He was the owner/operator of the Gulf Gas Station on Wabash Avenue for many years and later retired as a fuel truck driver for the Vigo County Farm Bureau at Terre Haute, after many years of service. He was born Feb. 10, 1920, in Edgar County, Ill., to Glenn Morgan Sr. and Dolly Morgan. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Loretta L. "Letty" Perkins Morgan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Harold McCoy of Owensville and Mary and Danny Martin of Haubstadt; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Mary Ellen Morgan of Chandler, Ariz., and Dennis and Pam Morgan of Terre Haute; one daughter-in-law, Yvonne Morgan of Thorntown; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Glenn Morgan Jr. and his wife, Alph of Marshall, Ill., and Doit Morgan and his wife, Bea of South Carolina; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Russell Morgan; his stepmother, Gladys Morgan; and one brother, Chet Morgan. Following his retirement from Farm Bureau, he worked for the maintenance department of St. Mary-of-the-Woods College. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of Sugar Creek Baptist Church, the Masonic Lodge at Terre Haute, the Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute and the American Legion Post of Marshall, Ill. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dennis Leek officiating. Burial is in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today and 7 a.m. until services Wednesday. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
