Mike Simbol

Mike Simbol, 95, of Terre Haute died at 4:06 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2003, in Union Hospital. He was a retired farmer. He was born Dec. 18, 1907, in Spring Valley, Ill., to George Simbol and Mary Daas Simbol. Survivors include his wife, Mary Malooley Simbol, whom he married March 21, 1940; four daughters, Nora Simbol Mike and her husband, Johnny Mike of Louisville, Ky., and Esther Simbol, Nellie Simbol and Mary Ann Simbol, all of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Curtis S. Bodine and his wife, Kelly Bodine of Terre Haute and Michelle Mike Nicholas and her husband, James Nicholas of Louisville; three sisters-in-law, Louise Grohovsky, Judy Winniski and Rose Malooley, all of Terre Haute; several nieces, nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and out-of-state nieces and nephews, Fouad Maalouli, Nellie Maalouli, Dr. Elias Chahine, George Chahine, Regina Chemali, Mary Chahine and Dr. Fred Chahine. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Chaim Simbol of San Paulo, Brazil; and two sisters, Zahia Chahine and Bahim Maalouli, both of San Paulo, Brazil. He was a member and the oldest parishioner of St. George Orthodox Church, where, on Oct. 23, 1983, he was presented the Meritorious Service Award for service to his church by Archbishop Philip Saliba. Services are 11 a.m. Monday in St. George Orthodox Church. Visitation is after 2 p.m. Sunday in the church, with Trisagion Prayers at 6:30 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to St. George Orthodox Church, 1900 S. Fourth St., Terre Haute, IN 47802. DeBaun Springhill Chapel assisted with arrangements.

Inez A. Anderson Dellacca

BRAZIL - Inez A. Anderson Dellacca, 83, of Brazil and formerly of Indianapolis and Carbon died at midnight Thursday, April 17, 2003, in Clay Health Center where she had been residing the past three years. She was born July 26, 1919, in Indianapolis to Walter Losh and Della Alexander Losh. Her first husband, Lester Anderson of Indianapolis died in 1954; her second husband, John H. "Jack" Dellacca, died Nov. 30, 2002. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Larry Walden of Brazil; one granddaughter, Della Eastep and her husband, Scott of Bainbridge; one great-granddaughter, Greeley Eastep at home; and one niece, Maggie Ruth Anderson of Marrowbone, Ky. She was a graduate of Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, and moved to the Carbon area in 1960. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Brazil Order of Eastern Star Chapter 80, and the Pocahontas Lodge of Carbon where she was a past Great Pocahontas. Services are 11 a.m. Monday in Miller Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Piatt officiating. Burial is in Memorial Park cemetery in Indianapolis. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with OES memorial services at 7 p.m.

Harry L. Fougerousse

JASONVILLE - Harry L. Fougerousse, 89, of Jasonville died at 4:15 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2003, in Shakamak Good Samaritan Center. He was born Oct. 7, 1913, in Jasonville to Joseph Fougerousse and Mary Ester Reubelt Fougerousse. Survivors include his wife, Beulah Smith Fougerousse; one daughter, Peggy A. Sluder; two sons, Larry J. Fougerousse and John W. Fougerousse; one sister, Lucille Lowdermilk; six grandsons; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Services are 11 a.m. Monday in McClanahan-Lee Funeral Home, with the Revs. Sam Bush and Michael Madden officiating. Burial is in Lebanon cemetery in Midland. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until services Monday.

William Williams

CLINTON - William Williams, 95, of Clinton died at 7 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2003, in his residence. He was born Nov. 9, 1907, in the county of Northumberland, Blythe, England, to William Williams and Emma Nicholson Williams. He was a coal miner and later became a member of Carpenters Local 133, where he worked for over 50 years. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mabel Uselman Williams; one daughter, Mary Ann Griffin of Clinton; one sister, Mary Ann Brockelman of Lebanon, Mo.; one brother, John Williams of Fort Wayne; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Chaney and her husband, Chris of Clinton; and one great-granddaughter, Alyson Chaney. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the United Mine Workers of America, American Legion Post 140 of Clinton and the First Assembly of God Church in Terre Haute. Services are 3 p.m. Monday in Frist Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jack Pastore officiating. Entombment is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 1 p.m. until services Monday.

Donna M. Burns

Donna M. Burns, 78, of Terre Haute, died Friday, July 25, 2003, in Union Hospital. She was born Jan. 26, 1925, in Fontanet. She was preceded in death by her husband, John William "Bill" Burns in 1977. Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Burns of Miami; her sister-in-law, Mary Walton; and several nieces and nephews. Services are 3 p.m. Wednesday in Roselawn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kyle Andrews officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 2 p.m. to services Wednesday.

Toni M. Evans

Toni M. Evans, 53, of Ellettsville and formerly of Terre Haute, died at 7:15 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2003, in her residence. She was a legal secretary for Bunger & Robertson Law Firm. She was born Oct. 19, 1949, in Brookfield, Ill., to Edward Meyer and June Strandquist Meyer. Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Keith Evans; son, Brian Evans and his wife, Erin, of Westfield; two daughters, Valerie Evans of Chicago and Tara Pittman and her husband, Brian, with first child on the way, of Brandon, Fla.; three brothers, Lee Meyer and his wife, Carol, of Chapel Hill, N.C., Edward Meyer and his wife, Mary Ann, of Greencastle, and Tim Meyer and his wife, Melissa, of Clarendon Hills, Ill; and one sister, June Lynne Grivetti and her husband, John, of Tinley Park, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents. Services are 11 a.m. today in St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Bloomington, with the Rev. Michael Fritsch officiating. Cremation is scheduled. Visitation is 9 to services in the church. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in care of Day Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third St., Bloomington, IN 47401. Day Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Alice M. Hayes

Alice M. Hayes, 77, of Terre Haute, died at 10:25 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2003, in Meadows Manor East. She was an owner and manager of the Goodie Shop Restaurant on Ohio Street in downtown Terre Haute. She was born May 14, 1926, in Terre Haute to George Martin and Edna Guthrie Martin. Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Lowery and her husband, Jerry, of Martinsville, Ill.; two sons, Kenneth "Marty" Hayes of Sunnyvale, Calif., and Chris W. Hayes and his wife, Virginia, of Terre Haute; former husband, Ken Hayes, of Terre Haute; a brother-in-law, Porter Bridwell of Huntsville, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Deone McNeil, Carter Wilson, Jarett Hayes, Garth Hayes, Adam Hayes, Alissa Hayes, Chase Hayes and Christen Hayes; two great-grandchildren, Darby McNeil and Grace McNeil; one niece and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Denise L. Hayes; and a sister, Saundra Bridwell. She formerly was active with the League of Terre Haute. Services are 3 p.m. Thursday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Jackson Higham

Jackson Higham was stillborn at 11:28 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2003, in Union Hospital. Survivors include his parents, Joe Higham and Susan Serrano Higham of Terre Haute; brother, Jared A. Higham; paternal grandparents, Jim and Amelia Higham of Seelyville; maternal grandparents, Miguel and Carmen Flores of Merrillville; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Services were Monday with the Rev. Larry Spear officiating. Burial was in Calvary cemetery. Callahan Funeral Home made the arrangements.

Bernie McGuinness

Bernie McGuinness, 78, of Indianapolis and formerly of Terre Haute, died Friday, July 25, 2003, in Carmel. He was born Oct. 30, 1924, in New York. Survivors include his wife, Mary McKenna McGuinness; three sons, Bernard McGuinness Jr., Patrick McGuinness and Kevin McGuinness and one daughter, Mary Boland. Services are 10 a.m. today in St. Michael Church in Indianapolis. Visitation is 9:30 a.m. to services. Stevens Mortuary in Indianapolis made arrangements.

Mary Katherine Paton

Mary Katherine Paton, 91 of Titusville, Fla., and formerly of Terre Haute, died Friday, July 25, 2003, in Florida. She was born June 21, 1912, in Terre Haute to Timothy O'Leary and Clara Amelia Doermer O'Leary. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Paton, on Jan. 30, 1995. Survivors include two sons, William Paton and wife, Marsha, and Robert M. Paton and wife, Clara, all of Titusville; a daughter, Mary Ann Guy and her husband, Richard, of Bloomington, Ind.; two brothers, Robert O'Leary of Fort Myers, Fla., and James O'Leary of Tucson, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, William J. Paton Jr., David A. Paton, James M. Paton, Robert Paton, Joseph Paton, Jennifer Enyart, John Guy, Sarah Guy and Megan Guy; six great-grandchildren, Brian Paton, Bradley Paton, Timothy Paton, Andrew Paton, Taylor Enyart and Hannah Enyart. She also was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John O'Leary. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Terre Haute and St. Theresa Catholic Church in Titusville. Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Patrick Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joe Kern officiating a Mass of Christian burial. Burial is in Calvary cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today with a prayer service at 6 p.m. in Callahan Funeral Home.

Mary D. Sawyer

Mary D. Sawyer, 82, of Terre Haute, died at 3:05 p.m. Sunday, July 27, 2003, in Meadows Manor East. She was a retired teacher. She was born Nov. 14, 1920, in Oneonta, N.Y., to Charles Geer and Lulu Sigsbee Geer. Her husband, H.D. Sawyer, preceded her in death. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah M. and Donald Dantinne of Madison, Wis.; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas H. and Kathleen D. Sawyer of Terre Haute; and two grandchildren, Shawn Thomas Sawyer and his wife, Danelle, and Meghan Daly Roselli and her husband, Shaun. Graveside services are Thursday in Cold Spring cemetery in Lockport. Callahan Funeral Home assisted with local arrangements.

Bertha C. Reed

KNIGHTSVILLE - Bertha C. Reed, 94, of Knightsville, died Sunday, July 27, 2003, in Cloverleaf Health Care Center. She was born Oct. 1, 1908, in Lexington, Ky., to James Thomas Clarke and Sarah Hackney Clarke. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Dale Reed. Survivors include one son, Richard D. Reed of Harmony; one daughter, Janice Young of Indianapolis; two granddaughters, Susan Young and Trudy Reed Wilbur; two grandsons, Jonathon Young and Richard Reed Jr.; and five great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and three brothers. She was a homemaker. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in Thomas Funeral Home with Pastor Kyle Andrews officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice.

Christina 'Katie' Curry

CENTENARY - Christina "Katie" Curry, 93, of Centenary died at 9:31 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, in Vermillion Convalescent Center in Clinton. She was a seamstress, retired from Windbreakers in Paris, Ill. She was born Oct. 22, 1909, in Clinton to Andrea Longo and Francesca Leona Longo. She was preceded in death by her husband, James O. "Boots" Curry, in 1960. Survivors include one daughter, Oralene Killebrew and husband, Nolan, of Clinton; one son, James "Melvin" Curry and wife, Lillian, of Centenary; one daughter-in-law, Faye Curry of Paris, Ill.; four granddaughters, Jane Coffin, Christy Daniels, Rebecca Hatheway and Rachael Killebrew; five grandsons, Keith Curry, Michael Curry, Marvin Curry, Robert Johnson and Forrest Curry; two step grandsons, Keith Cox and Paul Killebrew; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; four stepgreat-grandchildren; one niece, Frances Leder and husband, John, of Detroit; two great-nephews; three great-nieces and other nieces and nephews, three brothers, Sebastiano Longo, Bernardo Longo and Sebastiano Longo; and two sisters, Theresa and Rose Moseley. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in Karanovich Funeral Home with the Rev. John Mattson officiating. Burial is in Riverside cemetery in Clinton. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Joseph M. Chambers

Joseph M. Chambers, 85, of Terre Haute died at 8:25 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was an operating engineer for Local 841, retiring after over 40 years of service. He was born Jan. 8, 1916, in Monroe County to Don C. Chambers and Jessie May Chambers. Survivors include his wife, Eilene Beyers Chambers, whom he married July 22, 1939; three sons, Marlin Chambers of West Terre Haute, Lanny Chambers of Terre Haute and Owen Chambers of Indianapolis; three daughters, Erma Chrisman of Terre Haute, Nola Knust of Riley and Lisa Thomas of Charlotte, N.C.; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Norman "Buck" Chambers; two daughters, Crysta Bennett and Evalyn Call; five brothers; and two sisters. He was a member of Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, AARP and Local 841, and was an Army veteran of World War II. Services are 1 p.m. Monday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Rev. Monte Vincent officiating. Burial is in Grandview cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Paul E. Denehie

Paul E. Denehie, 63, of Indianapolis and formerly of Terre Haute died at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, in his residence. He held many positions during his extensive career in Indianapolis and the Wabash Valley. He was born April 27, 1938, in Terre Haute to Edward B. Denehie and Frances McAnally Denehie. Survivors include two sons, Doug Denehie and his wife, Lori and Don Denehie and his companion, Shelly Shanks, all of Terre Haute; three daughters, Debbie Hills and her husband, Jeff and Dee Stewart and her husband, Jimmy, all of Terre Haute and Nichole McDaniel of Indianapolis; one brother, Bill Denehie and his wife, Sallie of Terre Haute; one sister, Jane Denehie of Terre Haute; 14 grandchildren, Jeremy Hills, Nathan Hills, Jesse Hills, Anna Hills, Jacob Hills, Gabriel Hills, Michaella Hills, Seth Hills, Lucas Hills, Mikenzi Denehie, Mariah Denehie, James Stewart, Shelby Stewart and Tessa Stewart; a special friend, Marlyn McDaniel of Indianapolis; his brother-in-law, Michael Merrill of Avon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father April 1, 1957; his mother, Frances Denehie Bledsoe April 18, 2001; and his sister, Margaret Merrill March 5, 2001. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Indiana State University, majoring in communications, and attended Purdue University. He had served in the Marine Corps and the Army Reserves. He was an administrator at True-Form Products, an associate producer for the 1988 Pan Am Games, was vice president of marketing for the former Meis Stores, the Bottom Half and Peck's Menswear, and was the operations manager at WTWO Television from 1969 until 1972 and the production manager of WTHI-TV from 1957 until 1969. He also was an assistant producer for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network. In his career in television, he had photographed, written, produced, edited or directed over 50 documentaries, including regional network documentaries filmed in Vietnam, and a Peabody Award-winning documentary for the Kennedy Foundation, featuring the Special Olympics. For two years he had taught beginning and advanced broadcasting techniques at Vincennes University. Past community involvement and memberships included serving as president of the Advertising Federation of Terre Haute, board member and chairman of the marketing committee of the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, chairman of the communications and media committee of the Wabash Valley United Way, member of the Terre Haute Area Chamber of Commerce media committee, member of the YMCA board of directors, a fellow at Vincennes University, treasurer of Clean Air Inc., president of Wabash Valley Fair Association, president of Terre Haute Chapter National Foundation of the March of Dimes, member of broadcast advisory board of Vincennes University, camping committee chairman of the Wabash Valley Council Boy Scouts of America, chairman of Terre Haute Region White River Parks State Games, board member of Louise Mandrell Celebrity Golf Classic, member of Western Indiana Private Industry Council and its steering committee, and was a former member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He had been awarded the International Radio and Television Society Award for 30-second radio commercials, had received a Regional Addy Award for 30- and 60-second radio commercials, a National Retail Advertising Conference Award for Radio Campaign, the Radio Advertising Bureau Service Award, the National Newspaper Ad Directors Association Award for Institutional and Sale Ad Campaigns, the Lifetime Service Award from the Fraternal Order of Police, and had been named a Kentucky Colonel. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Indianapolis. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Cross Catholic Church, 125 N. Oriental St., Indianapolis. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Tuesday in Calvary cemetery, with the Rev. Richard Kaley officiating. Visitation is one hour before services Monday in Holy Cross Church in Indianapolis, and 4 to 7 p.m. Monday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with rosary at 7 p.m. The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the IU Cancer Center Gifts, Prostate Cancer Research, IU School of Medicine, Office of Gift Division, 1110 W. Michigan St., L0506, Indianapolis, IN 46202-5100.
