Eva M. Harkness, 63, of Terre Haute died at 3:42 a.m. Sunday, June 6, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born Feb. 3, 1941, in West Terre Haute to Leo R. LeClerq and Louise Hedden LeClerq. Survivors include her husband, Robert Harkness, whom she married April 29, 1960, in Terre Haute; her mother, Louise Topolski of Terre Haute; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Bob Cleeton of Terre Haute; two sons, William Harkness and his wife Jennifer, and Robby Harkness, all of Terre Haute; an adopted daughter, Loretta Osborn; two sisters, Mary Lou Evans of Terre Haute and Judy Erfft of Center Point; four brothers, Leo "Duck" LeClerq, Floyd LeClerq and Danny LeClerq, all of Terre Haute, and David LeClerq of Florida; seven grandchildren, DeLana Harkness, Adam Harkness, Katie Harkness, Ryan Harkness, Brittany Cleeton, Olivia Cleeton and Tyler Cleeton; and two step grandchildren, Jessica Lee and Mark Lee. She was preceded in death by her father. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, American Legion Post 972, Ladies Auxiliary, Eagles Lodge Auxiliary and past state president of the Firefighters Auxiliary. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday, with Sister Connie Kramer officiating. Burial is in Calvary cemetery. Pallbearers are Jay Hamblen, David Hamblen, Scott Hamblen, David "Boogie" Mount, Rick Horsley and Bill Felker. The family suggests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Gideon International or the building fund at Oregon Baptist Church.

Jack Patercsak

Jack Patercsak, 68, of Terre Haute died at 3:25 p.m. Sunday, June 6, 2004, in his residence. He retired from Bemis Co. Inc. He was born June 24, 1935, in Vigo County to Michael Joseph Patercsak and Charlotte Bernadine Ross Patercsak. Survivors include his wife, Darlene Roloff Patercsak, whom he married Aug. 9, 1958; two daughters, Lori Bauer and her husband Gary, and Lecia Bumpus and her husband James, all of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Robert Bauer and his fiancee Lindsay Robbins, Ryan Bauer, Jaclyn Bumpus, Lauren Bumpus and Emalie Bumpus; great-grandson, Gavin Bauer; one sister, Kay Stevenson and her husband Bob of Terre Haute; a stepsister, Charlene Wilson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Thomas Henry Carpenter; a son, Jack Patercsak II; a half brother, Gary Carpenter; and a stepbrother, Fred Carpenter. He was an Army veteran. Prayer service is 10:45 a.m. Wednesday in Karanovich-Giovanini Funeral Home in Clinton. Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart Church, Clinton, with the Rev. Joseph Villa officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vista Care Foundation, in care of Karanovich-Giovanini Funeral Home; or to Sacred Heart Church in Clinton.

Eugene A. Sears

Eugene A. Sears, 73, of Terre Haute, died at 3:50 a.m. June 6, 2004, in Union Hospital. He was a retired bus driver for the City of Terre Haute and also served in the military. He was born Jan. 8, 1931, in Vigo County to Albert Sears and Julia Smith Sears. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Sears, whom he married Oct. 21, 1965; three sons, Johnny, Norman and Duane;10 daughters, Rosemary, Diana, Sheila, Pam, Cathy, Jeanne, Julia, Jackie, Tina and Vicki; five brothers, Robert, Rick, Kenny, Jack and Joe; 32 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Gerald Lee and Brian; and one daughter, Theresa. Services are 7 p.m. Wednesday in DeBaun Idaho Street Chapel, with Rev. Quentin Isabell officiating. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Cremation will be later.

Clayton E. Terry

Clayton E. Terry, 87, of Terre Haute died June 7, 2004, in Davis Gardens in Westminster Village. For 26 years he was employed as a house-to-house salesman for Omar Bakeries followed by nine years driving wholesale routes for West & Tastee Bakeries. He then retired and gained a reputation as a "fix-it" man for small appliances and household repairs. He was born July 2, 1916, in Crawfordsville to Thomas Vora Terry and Cora Busenbark Terry. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ethel Manges Terry, in September 1997. Survivors include one son, Pastor Walter Terry and his wife Bonnie of Scott County; one daughter, Eileen Thurman and her husband Gary of Kansas, Okla.; two grandchildren, Sarah Pugh of Stratton, Neb., and Richard Thurman of Joplin, Mo.; and one great-granddaughter, Amy Pugh of Stratton. He also was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mary Florence Newton, and two brothers, Thomas and Leslie Terry. He was a resident of Westminster Village for 17 years He was a member of Oregon Baptist Church and belonged to Toastmasters. Visitation is 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday in Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, with a memorial service following in Oregon Baptist Church. Interment is Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Oak Hill cemetery in Crawfordsville.

Margaret Louise Padish

UNIVERSAL - Margaret Louise Padish, 77, of Universal died at 12:18 a.m., Monday, June 7, 2004, in West Central Community Hospital in Clinton. She worked at General Housewares for more than 30 years. She was born, Oct. 9, 1926, in Clinton to Paul Padish and Mary Goerlek Padish. Survivors include nephews, Andy Padish and his wife Donna, Randy Padish and his wife Terry, Andy Soyack and his wife Peggy, all of Clinton, George Padish and his wife Martha of Universal, Pete Pierce and his wife Lee of Texas, Dick Tomei and his wife Betty of Highland Park, Ill., and Arthur Padish and his wife Charlotte of Scottsdale, Ariz.; nieces, Maryann Clements of Dallas, and Doris D'Hulst of Bull Head City, Ariz.; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; five sister, Betty, Catherine, Anna, Marie and Helen; three brothers, George, Andy and John; and a nephew by marriage, Bob Clements. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial is 1 p.m. Friday in Sacred Heart Church in Clinton, with the Rev. Joseph Villa officiating. Burial is in Riverside cemetery in Clinton. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Friday in the church. Karanovich-Giovanini Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Universal.

M. Eva Poff

CLINTON - M. Eva Poff, 99, of Terre Haute and formerly of Clinton, died at 5:45 a.m. Monday, June 7, 2004, in Meadows Manor North in Terre Haute. She was born Dec. 22, 1904, in Edgar County, Ill., to Charles E. Bozarth and Matilda Welker Bozarth. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, in 1977. Survivors include one daughter, Doyne Lawson of Terre Haute; five grandchildren, Bill Lawson, James Lawson, Bob Lawson, Janice Brown and Peggi Landry; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Virginia Buntain. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Donald Lawson; and a great-grandson, Mitchell Lawson. She was a member of Fairview Church of Christ. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in Frist Funeral Home, with Bill Weber officiating. Burial is in Little Grove cemetery in Edgar County. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Robert Dale Comer

Robert Dale Comer, 73, of Terre Haute died at 11:45 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2004, in Union Hospital. He was a member of I.U.O.E. Local 841 from Sept. 6, 1950, to when he retired on from Dennis Trucking Co. on Sept. 6, 2000, and later did some work for Brad Porter Construction. He was born March 27, 1931, in St. Louis to Alpha Comer and Mary Anderson Comer. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Jimmie Lou; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Kim Comer of St. Charles, Ill.; one daughter and son-in-law, Lyn and Frank Cunning of Terre Haute; six grandchildren, Nicole Ross and her husband Dan, Andy Cunning and his wife Jo, Nina Davis and her husband Michael, Amy Cunning, Matthew Comer and Abby Cunning; two great-grandchildren, Lucas Ross and Eli Cunning; three sisters, Freda Carson and her husband Paul, Mary Williams and her husband Walter of Missouri, Margie Ishom of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant sister. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a member of First Baptist Church of North Terre Haute, working for Christ as a trustee, deacon and faithful servant. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St., with the Rev. Larry Fiordelise officiating, and military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Wednesday in Anutt cemetery, in Anutt, Mo. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Richard Thomas Conley Sr.

Richard Thomas Conley, Sr., 85, of Terre Haute died at 2:15 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2004, in Davis Gardens Health Care Center. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. He was an insurance and real estate agent and the owner of Buntin-Conley Agency, Marylaine Apartments and Call Conley Real Estate. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, attaining the rank of lieutenant commander and serving as the captain of a "Sub Chaser" boat. His past memberships include Kiwanis Club, Aero Club, Sycamore Country Club, Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks, Terre Haute Lodge 86, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 and Post 40 American Legion. He was past president of the Terre Haute Association of Realtors and the Tax Payers Association, and was a member of the first Human Rights Commission in Terre Haute. He was an avid golfer and had eight holes-in-one. He was born Aug. 15, 1918, in Chicago, to Richard Morrison Conley and Henrietta Louise Geretschlager Conley. Survivors include his wife, Elaine Mary Sullivan Conley; three sons, Richard Thomas Conley Jr. and his wife Susan Marie, Brian Francis Conley and his wife Jeanne Marie, all of Terre Haute, and John Morrison Conley and his wife Gretchen of Greenwood; five daughters, Margaret Ann Gibson of Alpharetta, Ga., Maureen Conley of Springfield, Ill., Mary Lou Ten Brink and her husband Philip of Terre Haute, Sheila Catherine Christoff and her husband Greggory of Fishers, Cara Elizabeth Hartl and her husband Jerry of Plymouth, Minn.; 18 grandchildren, Logan Gibson, Timothy Conley, Kevin Conley, Daniel Conley, Christopher Conley, Michael Conley, Mary Elizabeth Conley, Amanda Ten Brink, Emily Ten Brink, Rachel Ten Brink, Gerrit Ten Brink, Katie Christoff, Joseph Christoff, Jessica Conley, Jennifer Conley, Steven Hartl, Claire Hartl and Nicholas Hartl. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 2322 N. 131/2 St., with the Rev. Richard Kaley officiating. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park, with military honors provided by the VFW Post 972 Honor Guard. Visitation is scheduled for today, from 4 to 8 p.m. in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Floyd D. Johnson

Floyd D. Johnson, 85, of Terre Haute died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at 2:10 a.m. in Union Hospital. He worked in the shipping department of Quaker Maid, was a member of the American Legion and Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. He was a World War II veteran, serving as an Army medic in the Philippines. He was born Oct. 30, 1918, in Terre Haute to William Floyd Johnson and Bernice Gregg Johnson. He is survived by his wife, Edythe J. Johnson of Terre Haute; a son, Brian Johnson of Louisville, Ky.; two daughters, Michele Chernay and her husband Steve of Terre Haute, and Cheryl Wolfe and her husband Murray of Patriot. He also is survived by a sister, Meredith Goda of New Orleans; eight grandchildren, Jarrod Johnson, Carter Johnson, Jevaline Johnson, Todd Buell, Chad Buell, Michele Peck, Molly Clark and Mariette Fleck; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 2322 N. 131/2 St., with the Rev. Russell Zint officiating. A gathering of friends will be from 11:30 a.m. until service time in the Family Center in the church. Private burial will follow at a later date. Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home assisted the family with funeral arrangements.

Harold B. 'Bud' Price

Dr. Harold B. "Bud" Price, 79, of Terre Haute died at 3:15 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2004, in Union Hospital. He was a practicing chiropractor for 43 years, before retiring in 1993. He was born July 31, 1924, in Henderson, Ky., to Elmer R. Price and Hattie Bennett Price. Survivors include his wife, Roxie Shelton Price, whom he married June 20, 1946, in Henderson; one son, Dr. Stephen L. Price and his wife Gail Greiner Price; a daughter, Debra L. Swan of Alexandria, Va.; one sister, Louise Karges of Daytona Beach, Fla.; three sisters-in-law, Christa Price, Jane Clayman of Celebration, Fla., and Emily Yeiser and her husband Ted of Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Sam Shelton and his wife Betty of Dallas; two grandsons, Scott Price and Christopher Price; one granddaughter, Hayley S. Swan of Alexandria; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers; a son-in-law, Herbert Swan; and a brother-in-law, John Shelton. He attended Syracuse University and received a doctor of chiropractic degree from Lincoln Chiropractic College in 1950. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European theater of operations and was a lifetime member of Lawton Byrum Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. He also was a member of Post 40 American Legion, Terre Haute Lodge 19 Free & Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Zorah Shrine, Country Club of Terre Haute, Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks Lodge 86 and Sycamore Country Club. In 2002, he was inducted into the Terre Haute Golf Association Hall of Fame. Services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with the Rev. Loyal Bishop officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley, 600 S. First St., Terre Haute, IN 47807; or to Shriners' Hospitals for Children, 2001 S. Lindbergh Boulevard, St. Louis, MO 63131-3597; or to United Cerebral Palsy of the Wabash Valley, 621 Poplar St., Terre Haute, IN 47807.

Jean 'John' Paul Lessard

Jean "John" Paul Lessard, 61, of Fontanet died at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004, in his residence from natural causes. He was a security guard at Columbia House. He was born June 26, 1942, in Astoria, N.Y., to Joseph S. Lessard and Cecile Roy Lessard. Survivors include his wife of two years, Hilda Mason Lessard, whom he married Jan. 25, 2002; two sons, Jon Paul Lessard and his wife Jill, and Joseph Lessard, all of Queens in New York; one daughter, Jeanine Baylis and her husband Michael of Queens; four stepsons, Mike Mason and his wife Julie, Tim Mason and his wife Laura, Tom Mason, all of Fontanet, and Ed Mason and his wife Velvet of West Terre Haute; one stepdaughter, Melissa Mason of Fontanet; special little buddy, Eli Mason of Fontanet; two sisters, Marie Anne Lessard and Carole Anne Lessard, both of Queens; two brothers-in-law, John Peters and his wife Debra of Terre Haute, and Tom Peters of Eddyville, Ill.; one sister-in-law, Helen Vermillion and her husband Ken of Terre Haute; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Amanda, Cecile and Natalie; eight step grandchildren; three aunts; three nephews; one niece; and a host of other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Armand Lessard. He was an Army veteran. Services are 1 p.m. today in Dunn Family Mortuary, 2005 N. 13th St., with the Rev. Sam Ball officiating. Burial is in Rosedale cemetery in Rosedale, with graveside military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972.

Shirley F. Jones

ROCKVILLE - Shirley F. Jones, 82, of Rockville and formerly of Montezuma, died at 1:15 a.m. Sunday, June 6, 2004, in Rockville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was born May 13, 1922, in Vermillion County to Harry H. Frist and Mabel Boyd Frist. Her husband, Melvin Jones, died Oct. 26, 1998. Survivors include two sons, Gary Jones and Glen Jones; one daughter, Linda Reed; two sisters, Emily Saxton and Esther Foltz; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services are 7 p.m. Tuesday in Brown Funeral Home in Montezuma, with the Rev. Eric Moore officiating. Committal service is 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Oakland cemetery. Visitation is 4 p.m. until services Tuesday.

Marcella L. Brakensiek

Marcella L. Brakensiek, 63, of Terre Haute and formerly of Rosedale, died Monday, June 14, 2004, at 11:45 p.m. in Meadows Manor East after a lengthy battle with strokes. She was retired from the housekeeping department at Super 8 Motels. Born in Chicago on Oct. 16, 1940, she was the daughter of Steve Kubiak and Julia Glinski Kubiak. She was the mother of five children, Rosalind Estes, Mathew Kubiak, Patty Bridges, Robert Brakensiek and Eric Brakensiek; and grandmother to three children, Laura Mathews, Sean Brakensiek and Amber Bridges; and great-grandmother of Essence Jones and Lamar Mathews Jr. Cremation and services will be private under the direction of DeBaun Funeral Homes and Crematory. Those who choose may send cards of condolence to P.O. Box 10116, Terre Haute, IN 47801.

Wilma Lou Black

Wilma Lou Black, 68, of West Terre Haute, died Monday evening June 14, 2004, in her residence. She was formerly employed as a garment worker for the Theodore Rich Company in Terre Haute. She was born Aug. 11, 1935, in Vigo County to Kelsie Webster and Muriel V. Certain Webster. Survivors include her husband, William Black, whom she married on May 5, 1978, in Terre Haute; her mother of Pekin; a daughter, Donna Dennis of Rosedale; three stepdaughters, Dixie Taylor of West Terre Haute, Penny Heyen of Texas and Vickie Cartwright of Marshall, Ill.; a stepson, Billy Black of Brazil; two sisters, Mary Funkhouser of Craig, Colo., and Shirley Cusick of Terre Haute; three brothers, Mack Webster of Pekin, Jerry Webster of West Terre Haute and Billy Webster of Terre Haute; two grandchildren, Theodore "T.C." Eaker and Zachary Eaker, both of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6574 Ladies Auxiliary and the International Garment Workers Union. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Baldwin officiating. Burial is in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and prior to services on Thursday.
