Mary Belle Collins Naugle Haymaker, 96, of West Terre Haute, died at 7:14 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004, in Royal Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was born March 18, 1908, in Fayette Township to John Franklin Collins and Ida Belle Winters Collins. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Leroy "Ted" Naugle, on July 23, 1957. Survivors include her second husband, Homer A. Haymaker; three sons, Wally Naugle and his wife Grace, Chuck Naugle and his wife Ruth, and Jim Naugle, all of Arizona; four daughters, Bonnie Robinson, Mae Hill and her husband Jim, and Laura Shimel and her husband Dennis, all of Arizona, and Barbara Ray and her husband Earl of West Terre Haute; three sisters, Barbara Schlum of Arizona, Dorothy Hesler of Center Point and Betty White of Anderson; two stepdaughters, Lu Siner and her husband, Don, and Jo Crist and her husband Jerry, all of West Terre Haute; and one stepson, John Haymaker and his wife Susan of Newburgh; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and 55 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Vern Collins and Lawrence "Pete" Collins; and two sisters, Catherine Rose Collins and Helen Blackburn; and nieces and nephews. She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star Chapter 428. She held offices in Fayette Township Farm Bureau, Home Economics Club and Rebekah Lodge. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral home with Revs. Jeanne Winter and Kathy Roush officiating. Burial is in Pleasantview cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with an Eastern Star memorial service at 7 p.m. Visitation continues 7 a.m. until services Tuesday. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Foundation, 9235 N. Meridian St., Suite B-4, Indianapolis, IN 46209-7109, or with envelopes available in the funeral home.

Betty May Leachman

Betty May Leachman, 82, of Terre Haute, died at 12:20 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004, in Union Hospital. She retired from Quaker Maid after 33 years of employment. She was born March 28, 1922, in Vigo County to Matthew Cesinger and Ina Lowish Cesinger. Her husband of 60 years, Russell W. Leachman, died July 10, 2001. Survivors include four daughters, Roberta Fox and her husband Joe of Riley, Freda Cornett and her husband Harry of Terre Haute, Pauline McIntee and her husband Roy of Redwood City, Calif., and Julia Hayes Dupree of Acton, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Betty Cesinger and Dorothy Cesinger, both of Terre Haute; several nieces and nephews; her dog, Tippy; and several good neighbors. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and six brothers, Virgil, Bill, Tub, Buz, Kenny and Ronald Cesinger. She was a 1939 graduate of Glenn High School, was a member of Riley Post 328 American Legion, Lawton-Byrum Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 Auxiliary and Wabash Valley Sewing Connection. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, water skiing and fishing, and played the mandolin. Services are 8 p.m. today in Callahan Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., with Mark Grayless officiating. Private burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today. For those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to Area 7 Agency on Aging, 1718 Wabash Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47807.

J. Josephine Long

J. Josephine Long, 94, of Pimento died at 1:41 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband on their farm. She was born Feb. 26, 1910, in Vigo County to Freeman Fagg and Mary Ida Lidster Fagg. Her husband, Arley Long, died in 1993. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Vincent E. and JoAnn Long; a daughter-in-law, Wanda Long; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Charles R. Long; a daughter, Charlotte R. Childers; sisters and brothers, Clarence, Herbert, Cecil, Mina and May; and two grandchildren. She was a member of Blackhawk Community Church. Services are 2 p.m. Monday in DeBaun Idaho Street Chapel, with the Rev. Marvin Miller officiating. Burial is in Westlawn cemetery in Farmersburg. Visitation is noon until services Monday.

Lorene M. Kendall Nadzeika

Lorene M. Kendall Nadzeika, 94, of Terre Haute died at 10:50 am. Friday, June 11, 2004, in Meadows Manor East. She had been employed with Commercial Motor Freight for 10 years as an office worker. Previously, she had worked for Hulman & Co. for several years. She was born March 15, 1910, in Lima, Ohio, to John Elmer Kendall and Sylvia Blanche Adams Kendall. On Aug. 25, 1934, she married Herbert Nadzeika, who preceded her in death on July 16, 1993. Survivors include two nieces, Patricia A. Dunn of Terre Haute and Marjorie "Margi" L. Pratt and spouse Larry of Avon; nephew, Lawrence "Larry" Kendall of Terre Haute; great-nephews, James E. Dunn and spouse Brenda of Avon, Jeffrey A. Pratt of Aurora, Colo., Gregory W. Pratt and spouse Lisa of Noblesville; great-niece, Tami Pratt of Denver; sister-in-law, Jennie F. Kendall of Danville, Ind.; several great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews and several cousins. She was preceded in death by one brother, William W. Kendall, in 1994. After graduating from Garfield High School in 1928, she attended Indiana State Teachers College, where she graduated in 1932, with a bachelor's degree in business. A life long active member of Maple Avenue United Methodist Church, she was involved in the Joy Circle, Maple Avenue United Methodist Women's Club, Telephone Pioneers of America, Alpha Sigma Alpha Alumni Sorority, American Association of Retired Persons, serving as hospitality chairwoman, and attended the Travel Log Association with the Kiwanis Club. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with the Rev. Stanley Howell officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Tuesday. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Maple Avenue United Methodist Church Capital Building Fund, 1203 Maple Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47804; or to Hospice of the Wabash Valley, 600 S. First St., Terre Haute, IN 47807.

Pauline Dal Sasso

CLINTON - Pauline Dal Sasso, 82, of Clinton died at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2004, in Heritage House of Clinton. She had been employed with Clinton Overall Factory and Quaker Maid in Terre Haute. She was born June 10, 1922, in Centenary to Simon Bonato and Elizabeth Dal Ponte Bonato. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ugolino Dal Sasso, on March 13, 1989. Survivors include two sisters, Katherine Schmeling of Phelan, Calif., and Elizabeth Meneghini of Terre Haute; one brother, Nick Bello and his wife Mirriam of LaPorte; a sister-in-law, Rose Bonato of Woodridge, Ill.; six cousins; and six dear nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Sue Ann Dal Sasso, on Nov. 23, 2003; one sister, Anna Secoy, in 2001; two brothers, John Bonato, in 1998, and Victor Bonato, in 1996; and a nephew, Angelo Meneghini Jr. in 2001. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Clinton, and a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary when it was formed in 1947. She resided in Clinton for 70 years, moved to Pittsburgh to be with Sue Ann, and they returned to Clinton in 2003. Private services are scheduled with the Rev. Joseph Villa officiating. Burial is in Walnut Grove cemetery. Karanovich-Giovanini Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Gladys B. Hopewell

SULLIVAN - Gladys B. Hopewell, 80, of Sullivan died at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2004, in Sullivan County Hospital. She was born Nov. 19, 1923, in Sullivan to Ernest Mason and Flossie Bell Mason. Her husband, David Hopewell Jr., died in 1948. Survivors include three daughters, Janice Browning of Henderson, Ark., Diana Jones of El Cajon, Calif., and Mary McCammon of Sullivan; one brother, Gilbert Mason of Toledo, Ohio; two sisters, Doretta Beeler of Jasonville and Mary Zebrowski of Toledo; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Ed Mason; and three sisters, Maxine Mason, Doris Lemmons and Pauline Moore. Graveside services are 11:30 a.m. Monday in Little Flock cemetery, with the Rev. Howard Sewell officiating. There is no visitation. Banks & Brust Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Woodrow O. Power Jr.

FARMERSBURG - Woodrow "Woodie" O. Power Jr., 65, of Farmersburg, died at 10:13 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was a bass guitar player with Gospel Friends, Turning Point and numerous other gospel groups. He also had a private recording studio, where he recorded gospel groups from Indiana and Illinois. He was a retired railroad engineer with Conrail, where he was employed for more than 15 years. He was born Nov. 12, 1938, to Woodrow Power and Veneda Giller Power of Farmersburg. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; two daughters, Sherri Blasley and her husband Richard of Poland, and Barbara Escott and her husband Michael of Brazil; one son, Woodrow Power III of Farmersburg; five grandchildren; five step grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday in Farmersburg United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dan Ransford officiating. Interment will follow in Westlawn cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until services Monday in the church. Mattox-McHugh is in charge of arrangements.

Junior Ephraim Winkler

SANDFORD - Junior Ephraim Winkler, 76, of Sandford died at 7:55 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2004, in his residence. He had worked at Lovelace Trucking and was retired from his own company, Win Mil Trucking. He was born March 7, 1928, in Rardin, Ill., to Rolly Ephraim Winkler and Lydia Rosedna Lycan Winkler. Survivors include his wife, Beverly Wood Winkler; two sons, Randy Winkler and his wife Vicci of West Terre Haute and James Milton and his wife Rhonda of Brazil; two daughters, Ronne' Nutter and her husband Gerald of Las Vegas, and Carla Whitesell of Sandford and her fianc/ Les Hamm; eight grandchildren, Misti Allen, Robin Hudgens, Philip Hudgens, Randy Winkler Jr. and his wife Holly, Justin Robinson, Chelsey Taylor, Sierra Milton and Emilly Milton; one great-grandchild, Rhyan Winkler; three sisters-in-law, Ida Winkler of Wisconsin, Georgia Church of Universal and Cathy Lamb of West Terre Haute; one brother-in-law, Gene Wood of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Zachariah Everett, Raleigh Elbridge, James Franklin and Harlen McKinley; and four sisters, Maryferne Winkler Stark, Rosedna Winkler Snider, Lenora Winkler Stumpf and Louemma Winkler Smith. He enjoyed music and dancing and was a squaredance caller in Indiana and Illinois. He was known as "Grandpa" to many young athletes in this area. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of West Terre Haute Lodge 687 Free & Accepted Masons, and had attended Wesleyan Church in Sandford. Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Carl Hedden officiating. Interment is in Bethesda Memorial Park, with graveside military services by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6574 in West Terre Haute. Pallbearers are Chuck Wood, Les Hamm, Justin Robinson, Gerald Nutter, Troy Isles, Randy Winkler Jr. and Philip Hudgens. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a Masonic memorial service at 7 p.m. by Lodge 687. The family suggests that, if friends so desire, memorial contributions be made to Wesleyan Church of Sandford, with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Anita C. Mattox

Anita C. Mattox, 64, of Terre Haute, died at 12:41 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was a homemaker. She was born May 1, 1940, in Universal to Anthony Airola and Rose Cargnino Airola. Survivors include her husband, Robert Mattox; one son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Anne Mattox of Terre Haute; one daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Bob Jones of Indianapolis; one brother, John Airola of Terre Haute; and four grandchildren, Jarrett Mattox, Taylor Mattox, Caleb Jones and Hunter Jones. She was a 1958 graduate of Clinton High School and attended Indiana State University for two years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She also was a member of the Christian Women's Club and Meals on Wheels. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Church with the Rev. Paul Schloemer officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today in Callahan Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Vigo County Mental Health Association, 620 Eighth Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47804.

Norma Jean Warnock Julian

Norma Jean Warnock Julian, 67, of Terre Haute, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, in her home. She worked in Meadows Manor East as a nurses aide and most recently as a housekeeper at Drury Inn. She was born July 19, 1936, in Terre Haute to Harold Warnock Sr. and Dorothy Vire Warnock. Norma is survived by her husband, John Julian; three daughters, Mary Frances Batchelor, Sherry Lynn Lewis and her husband James, all of Terre Haute, and Jeannie Gravil and her husband Greg of Rosedale; two sons, James H. Julian and his wife Lisa and John Q. Julian Jr. and his wife Loeva; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Rose Naugle and her husband Wayne of North Carolina, Marjorie Phillips and her husband Donnie of Florida, Carolyn Power and her husband Johnny, Judy Roberts and her husband Jim, and Linda Mackie, all of Terre Haute; five brothers, Harold Warnock Jr. and his wife Judy of North Carolina, William Warnock and his wife Carol, Charles Warnock and his wife Susie, John Warnock and his wife Eileen and Paul Warnock and his wife Michelle, all of Terre Haute; nieces and nephews; aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents. Norma attended First Church of the Nazarene. She was president of the American Legion Post 346 Ladies Auxiliary, sergeant-at-arms of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, 6th District, a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 Ladies Auxiliary, AMVETS, and she collected porcelain dolls. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Monday in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St. American Legion Post 346 Ladies Auxiliary will conduct their memorial service. The Rev. Mark Fleschner will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and noon to 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Laura Brooke McDonald

Laura Brooke McDonald, 18, of Terre Haute, beloved daughter of Dr. Rodney McDonald and Marla Schrader McDonald, died in a car accident Tuesday, June 15, 2004, on Rio Grande Road. She was born June 8, 1986, in Clinton. She is survived by her parents, Rodney and Marla of Terre Haute; one sister, Tara Shea of Terre Haute; grandparents, Travis and Joan McDonald of Terre Haute; grandmother and step grandfather, Mary Schrader Gephart and Jim Gephart of Brownsburg; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Vern and Mildred Gibson; and grandfather, Herman Schrader. Laura was an honor student at Terre Haute North Vigo High School and would have been a senior there this fall. She was active in the Junior Senate and was a varsity cheerleader. Laura loved life and everything about it. She loved to hunt, fish, cook and travel with family and friends. Visitation for Laura is 4 to 8 p.m. today in Terre Haute North Vigo High School with funeral services scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday in the school with the Rev. Vince McFarland officiating. Entombment is in Roselawn Mausoleum. Mattox Funeral Homes is in charge of the arrangements.

William E. Noble

William E. Noble, 41, of Terre Haute, died at 6:55 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born Sept. 12, 1962, in Terre Haute to Paul Noble and Blanche Scott Noble. Survivors include four brothers, John A. Noble, Thomas V. Noble and Robert J. Noble, all of Terre Haute, and James R. Noble of Seelyville; six sisters, Anita M. Glasstetter, Patricia Langford, Melinda Walley, Cathy Noble, Kristie Dawn Kaiser and Christina Debney, all of Terre Haute; and several friends, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Paul A. Noble Jr., who died in 1973. William was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Services are 11 a.m. today in Callahan Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., with the Rev. James Haddix officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m. today prior to services in the funeral home.

Trella H. Nichols

FARMERSBURG - Trella H. Nichols, 78, of Farmersburg, died at 7:06 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in Sullivan Community Hospital. She was a retired postal clerk and former co-owner of Holiday Launderette and South Third Street Coin Laundry. She was born Nov. 1, 1925, in Sullivan County to Herschel Taylor and Mamie Arthur Taylor. Her husband, Clarence A. Nichols, preceded her in death in May of 2003. Survivors include one daughter, Jeanne McClure; three grandchildren, Nicole Boyll, Brooke Caton and her husband, Randy, and Patrick Price; nine great-grandchildren, Tyler, Nick, Garrett, Kaitlyn and Rachel Boyll, Kenley McClure, Alexis and Harley Gilliam, and Zoe Caton; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Tiffani and Dillon Caton. She also was preceded in death by her parents. She was a member of the Farmersburg chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday in DeBaun Funeral Home Springhill Chapel in Terre Haute with the Rev. Duane McClure officiating. Burial is in Farmersburg West Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.

John Michael Vilchuck

PIMENTO - John Michael Vilchuck, 53, of Pimento died at 4:50 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was a retired iron worker. He was born March 11, 1951, in Muskegon, Mich., to Myron Vilchuck and Lorraine Scheffler Vilchuck. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lisa Stuck Vilchuck, in 1998. Survivors include his father, Myron Vilchuck; three sons, Luke Vilchuck, Seth Vilchuck and Jason Hauger; three sisters, Judy Pastorius of Morrow, Ohio, Laura Hosman of Bourbonnais, Ill., and Debra Barton and her husband John of Mangham, La.; and one brother, Bryce Vilchuck and his wife Debbie of Bloomington, Ind. He also was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine Scheffler Vilchuck. He was a member of the American Legion post in Riley and the Ironworkers Local 439. Services are 11 a.m. Monday in Mattox-Fidler Funeral Home in Farmersburg. Burial is in Farmersburg Westlawn cemetery. Visitation is 9 to 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.
