Netra Noleen Lowderman

Netra Noleen Lowderman, 79, of Terre Haute died at 9:33 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was a nurses aide for Union Hospital and also worked for 12 years in the Indiana State University Student Health Center. She was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Keller to Jim Baker and Eva Heady Baker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry "Buss" Sollers. Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia Fish of Terre Haute; her son, Paul Richard Abel of Shelburn; five grandchildren, Saundra Jones and her husband Joey of Dana, Tony Shipman of Sullivan, Kevin Earls and his wife Angel of West Terre Haute, Ceneta Earls of Terre Haute and Terry Lee Fish Jr. and his wife Amy of Indianapolis; and 15 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and one daughter, Lois Earls. Services are noon Friday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Gibson officiating. Burial is in Newman cemetery, Newman, Ill. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Friday in the funeral home.

Laura Brooke McDonald

Laura Brooke McDonald, 18, of Terre Haute, beloved daughter of Rodney McDonald and Marla Schraeder McDonald, died in a car accident Tuesday, June 15, 2004, on Rio Grande Road. She was born June 8, 1986, in Clinton. She is survived by her parents, Rodney and Marla of Terre Haute; one sister, Tara Shea of Terre Haute; grandparents, Travis and Joan McDonald of Terre Haute; grandmother and step grandfather, Mary Schraeder Gephart and Jim Gephart of Brownsburg; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Vern and Mildred Gibson; and grandfather, Herman Schraeder. Laura was an honor student at Terre Haute North Vigo High School and would have been a senior there this fall. She was active in the Junior Senate and was a varsity cheerleader. Laura loved life and everything about it. She loved to hunt, fish, cook and travel with family and friends. Visitation for Laura is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in Terre Haute North Vigo High School with funeral services scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday in the school with the Rev. Vince McFarland officiating. Entombment is in Roselawn Mausoleum. Mattox Funeral Homes is in charge of the arrangements.

William E. Noble

William E. Noble, 41, of Terre Haute, died at 6:55 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born Sept. 12, 1962, in Terre Haute to Paul Noble and Blanche Scott Noble. Survivors include four brothers, John A. Noble, Thomas V. Noble and Robert J. Noble, all of Terre Haute, and James R. Noble of Seelyville; six sisters, Anita M. Glassterrer, Patricia Langford, Melinda Walley, Cathy Noble, Kristie Dawn Kaiser and Cristina Debney, all of Terre Haute; and several friends, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Paul A. Noble Jr., who died in 1973. William was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Services are 11 a.m. Friday in Callahan Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., with the Rev. James Haddix officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday prior to services in the funeral home.

Evelyn Ellis McElroy

DUGGER - Evelyn Ellis McElroy, 93, of Seattle and formerly of Dugger, died March 18, 2004 in Seattle. She retired from Montgomery Ward after 28 years of service, beginning her career in the Terre Haute store. She was born Aug. 29, 1911, to Frank M. and Dovie Cooksey Goldman in Dugger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry G. McElroy, on Dec. 30, 1992. She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Campbell of Seattle; two sons, William Ellis of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Jerry Ellis of Dearborn Heights, Mich.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and one sister. Memorial services are 2 p.m. Saturday in Newkirk Funeral Home, 8185 E. Main Street in Dugger with the Rev. John Booker officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a hospice organization.

Charles W. 'Bill' Hutchison

PARKERSBURG - Charles W. "Bill" Hutchison, 77, of Parkersburg died at 11:04 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2004, in St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis. He was a farmer. He was born Jan. 5, 1927, in Newman, Ill. to Obie and Mamie Walls Hutchison. He married Betty J. Trimble on Dec. 10, 1950, in New Market. She preceded him in death on Aug. 19, 2003. Survivors include a son, Randel Hutchison and his wife Betsy of Parkersburg; a daughter, Cathryn Hutchison of Terre Haute; two brothers, Paul Hutchison and his wife Thelma of Florida and Bob Hutchison and his wife Rose of Newman; a sister, Frances Roe of Parkersburg; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He also was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Wilma Hutchison and Juanita Reed. He was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday in Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, 103 E. Main St., New Market, with burial following in the Masonic cemetery in Waynetown. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Crawfordsville Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion posts. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Dept. 77-3968, Chicago, Ill. 60678-3968.

Norma F. Combs Sears Cunningham

Norma F. Combs Sears Cunningham, 82, of Greencastle and formerly of Terre Haute, died at 2:26 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2004, in Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. She was born in southern Indiana on Aug. 5, 1921, to Mr. and Mrs. Combs and raised in Terre Haute. Her first husband, Donald P. Sears, preceded her in death. Her second husband, Andy Cunningham, survives. Other survivors include one son, Kenneth M. Sears; one stepson, Terry Cunningham; one grandson; and one brother, Clint Combs. Services are 1 p.m. Monday in Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home in Greencastle, with the Rev. Bobby Hopper officiating. Burial is in Forest Hill cemetery in Greencastle. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Eli M. Krueger

Eli M. Krueger, 86, of Terre Haute and formerly of Evansville and Santa Claus, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in Southwood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Terre Haute. Eli retired from Whirlpool Corporation in 1976 as a supervisor of quality control after working there for 39 years. He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Thelma. Eli is survived by his daughter, Jackie Snyder and her husband Don of Santa Claus; one son, Mel Kreuger and his wife Debbie of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Jade Hirt and wife Amy, of Greenwood, Jarid Hurt and wife Beth of Santa Claus, Melody Brooks and husband Jason of Terre Haute, Melinda All and husband Justin of Terre Haute; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Mallori and Trae Hirt, Conner and Spencer Hirt and Dustin Anderson; and two sisters, Annetta Halket and Louella Paulson. He also was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lena Krueger; and three brothers, Arthur, Elmer and Albert Krueger. Eli was a graduate of Central High School. He then attended the University of Evansville and took several correspondence courses. He was a graduate of the 38th Dale Carnegie Class with honors. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II stationed in Okinawa and in the Philippines from 1943 to 1945, and also served in the Korean War with Company "C" 16th Infantry Battalion from 1947 to 1951. In World War II, he received the Presidential Unit Citation with Star during the Asian Pacific Campaign. He was the last surviving charter member of the Berean Bible Church in Evansville, where he served on the board for 40 years. He also was a member of Lessing Masonic Lodge 464 Free and Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1114, Whirlpool Management Club, American Red Cross, Evansville Foreman's Club, Evansville Tennis Club, Polar Bear Club and charter member of Tri-State Athletic Club. Eli was involved with the Red Cross, where he received his original Instructor's Training Certificate in 1952. He was Chairman of First Aid, Evansville Chapter and was elected to the Board of Directors from 1968 to 1977; attended the National Aquatic School in Limberlost as a student in June 1967; was a member of the faculty of the National Aquatic School in 1968 and 1969; and Dean of First Aid in National, Indiana and Tennessee aquatic schools for 15 years. He was a volunteer instructor-trainer for all phases of first aid including basic first aid, multi-media first aid, standard first aid, personal safety, advanced first aid and emergency care. He was a CPR instructor for the American Heart Association in 1974. He received the American Red Cross Service Medal on March 21, 1974, along with a certificate for more than 2, 200 hours of service from 1969 to 1973. Eli received the Inter Arma Caritas, the Humanity Award and State Award for Volunteer at the American Red Cross. He was a member of the First Aid Disaster Team in Evansville. He designed a workbook to be used as a teaching aid for the new Standard First Aid and Personal Safety program and also a test to cover material in the workbook. He also was a volunteer consultant in safety programs for the South Central Indiana Division. Eli enjoyed tennis, racquetball, bicycling, handball, volleyball and he loved God and his church. Services are 1 p.m. Monday in Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Paul Davis. Entombment is in Alexander Memorial Park Mausoleum. Friends may call 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday. A Masonic service will be conducted by Lessing Masonic Lodge 464 at 6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Red Cross Safety Services, Southwestern Indiana Chapter. Arrangements are being made by Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois St., Evansville.

Rick A. Rhuebottom Sr.

Rick A. Rhuebottom Sr., 44, of Terre Haute, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in the emergency room of Union Hospital. He was born Aug. 26, 1959, in Terre Haute to William C. Rhuebottom and Eva Ilene Jones Rhuebottom. He had worked as a laborer out of Union Local 204 in Terre Haute. He is survived by his wife, Penny Bousman Rhuebottom, whom he married Jan. 13, 1979; two sons, Rick Rhuebottom and his wife Susan and Robert Rhuebottom, all of Terre Haute; one daughter, Linda Rhuebottom, of Terre Haute; eight grandchildren; his mother, Ilene Stowe of Terre Haute; two brothers, Bill Rhuebottom and his wife Mary of Brazil, and Gary Rhuebottom of Terre Haute; two sisters, Cindy Jordan of West Virginia and Teresa Rhuebottom of Terre Haute; and several nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Oscar Stowe; and one sister, Anna Louise Stephens. Services are 7 p.m. Monday in French Funeral Home in Brazil, with the Rev. Merrill Weir officiating. At his request, cremation will take place. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Virginia Fox Tyree

Virginia Fox Tyree, 97, of Riley, died Friday, June 18, 2004. She was born in Riley to William C. Fox and Myrtle Meighen Fox on Jan. 28, 1907. She was a business teacher, having retired from Reitz High School in Evansville. Survivors include one sister, Agnes Gwin and husband Tom of Los Angeles; one brother, Joe Fox and his wife Bertie of Riley; three nephews, Dr. Joe B. Fox and his wife Kara of Indianapolis, Jeff Fox and his wife Shari of Riley, and Bill Gwin of Fullerton, Calif.; niece Sharon Hankermeyer and her husband Bill of Maine; great-nephews, Torey Fox of Riley, Robin Fox of Indianapolis and Brian Gwin of Fullerton; two great-nieces, Mariah of Indianapolis and Betsy Hankermeyer of Las Vegas; and one great-nephew, Andrew Hankermeyer of Camp Hill, Pa. Virginia was a graduate of Indiana State University and a member of the Vigo County Retired Teachers Association. Services are 3 p.m. Sunday in Mattox-Fox Funeral Home in Riley, with the Rev. Jeff Lee officiating. Burial is in Oak Hill cemetery. Visitation is from noon until service time Sunday in the funeral home.

Paul H. Pierce

CLAY CITY - Paul H. Pierce, 80, of Clay City, died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2004, in his residence. He was a salesman for Kirby Risk for 18 years and also for Walker Electric for 38 years. He was born July 21, 1923, in Terre Haute to Arthur Pierce and Olive Rost Pierce Arnold. Surviving are his wife, Clara Spaulding Pierce, whom he married on Sept. 1, 1946; a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Alfred Mikles; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael Pierce and his wife Jeanie, and John Pierce; one stepbrother, Ed Arnold; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one aunt, Esther Rost; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Russell, Earl and Reggie Pierce; three sisters, Laura Mae Bright, Katherine Myrtle and Norma Cherepkai; and one stepsister, May Rose Conwell. Mr. Pierce served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of William Penn Masonic Lodge 727, Zorah Shrine, a member and past commander of the Clay City Veterans of Foreign Wars 6606, the Elks and the Marine Corps League. He also was a member of Patricksburg Methodist Church and Riley American Legion Post 328. He had served as the first president of the Terre Haute Southside Optimists Club. Services are 1 p.m. Monday in Debaun Funeral Home Springhill Chapel, with the Revs. Myron Welty and Jerry Lee Dusenberry officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park, with VFW graveside services. Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the William Penn Lodge conducting their memorial service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Max T. Caldwell

Max T. Caldwell, 86, of Terre Haute died Sunday, June 20, 2004, at 5:05 a.m. in Royal Oaks Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. He was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II, serving in Europe. He was a boat salesman at Lake of the Ozarks, Mo. He was a 50-year member of Eastgate Masonic Lodge, Kansas City, Mo., and also a member of the Elks Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and a life member of Disabled American Veterans, all in Missouri. He was born May 4, 1918, in Bagnell, Mo., to Clarence E. Caldwell and Velma Denny Caldwell. He is survived by his wife, Lucille, whom he married on April 3, 1951, in Kansas City; two sons, Denny K. Caldwell of Indianapolis, and Tom C. Caldwell of New York; a brother, Dorsey L. Caldwell of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Dolores Brondel and her husband Jerome of Eldon, Mo.; and five grandchildren, Shane M. Caldwell, Nathan J. Caldwell, Stacy M. Caldwell, Tim Caldwell and Nicole Caldwell. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lowell Caldwell, Paul A. Caldwell and Clyde E. Caldwell; and a sister, Lois Dean Ramsey. Cremation is scheduled and there will be no local services. A memorial service with VFW military honors will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday in Phillips Funeral Home in Eldon. Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home assisted the family with local funeral arrangements.

Stanley Mathers Sr.

Stanley "Stan" Mathers Sr., 67, of Terre Haute died June 21, 2004, at 11:08 a.m. in Union Hospital. He was retired from the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, where he served as the Bowling Manager for 15 years. He was born Nov. 24, 1936, in English. He is survived by his wife of seven years, Debbie Mathers; two sons, Jeffrey Mathers and Andrew Mathers; a daughter, Kimberly Niebarger; a stepdaughter, Brooke Lingenfelser; two sisters, Charlotte Grunden and Alice Robinson; eight grandchildren, Larry and Joseph Stone of Columbus, Amanda Grey, Macaleb, Mackenzy and Madison Mathers, all of Terre Haute, and Crystal and Jesse James Mathers of Brazil; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Mathers, and a son, Stanley Mathers Jr. He was educated for12 years and was a member of Elks Lodge 86. Services are 8 p.m. Wednesday in Mattox-Wood Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Herb officiating. A memorial service will be conducted by Elks Lodge 86 at 7 p.m. Visitation is 4 p.m. Wednesday until services in the funeral home. Cremation will follow.

Rev. Harvey Junior McClure

The Rev. Harvey Junior McClure, 73, of Terre Haute died at 10:25 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2004, in Union Hospital. He was a retired minister in the Church of the Nazarene and also retired from Indiana Gas and Chemical. He was born Sept. 30, 1930, in Terre Haute to Cecil Harvey McClure and Jessie Agnes Persinger McClure. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Joan McClure, whom he would have been married to 50 years on Aug. 13, 2004; one son, Bernie Lee McClure and daughter-in-law Debra of Danville, Ill.; one daughter, Vicki Lynn McCampbell and son-in-law Nelson of Terre Haute; one brother, Estell McClure and wife, Joan of Terre Haute; two sisters, Wilma Mortz of Terre Haute and Erma Evelyn Smith of Colorado; four grandchildren, Chad Evan McClure of Clinton, Jeremy Wayne McClure and wife Shasta of Danville, Ill., Jessica Nicole McCampbell of Mesa, Ariz. and Shelly Reece; four great-granddaughters, Katelynn Rose, Jasmine Nicole, Destiny Paige McClure and Kelsie Noble; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Joe McClure; and one sister, Viola Mays. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Southside Church of the Nazarene. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in the church, with the Rev. Rick Parsons officiating. Burial is in Hull cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today in DeBaun Springhill Chapel and also from 10 a.m. until services Wednesday in the church.

Edward J. Mikula

Edward J. Mikula, 88, of Terre Haute died Sunday, June 20, 2004, at 5:50 p.m. in Meadows Manor North. He was a commercial artist and retired from the Methodist Publishing House in Evanston, Ill. He was born Jan. 3, 1916, in Chicago to Joseph Mikula and Veronica Komperda Mikula. He married Clara "Mae" Strazzabosco on April 12, 1947, in Chicago, and she preceded him in death. He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Mae Richardson and husband Thornton C. Richardson of Clinton and Diane Christine Gilbert and husband Dennis Gilbert of Wandsworth, London; beloved granddaughters, Nicole Mae Richardson of Clinton and Nina Rose Gilbert, Wandsworth, London; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Mikula. He was a graduate of the Chicago Art Institute. He designed the cross and flame symbol for the Methodist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He traveled the world and lived life to the fullest. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in Frist Funeral Home in Clinton. Cremation is scheduled. Private inurnment will be later in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Swope Art Museum, 25 S. Seventh St., Terre Haute, IN 47807. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home.
