Nancy Anne Walter O'Laughlin

Nancy Anne Walter O'Laughlin, of Terre Haute, died at 11:40 a.m. on Friday, July 30, 2004. She was born May 3, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio to Hugo Louis Walter and Edna Mae Lewis Walter. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Sean Martin and Paula O'Laughlin, of Claremont; Kevin Patrick and Gail O'Laughlin, of Terre Haute; and Daniel Joseph and Renee O'Laughlin of Noblesville; one daughter, Margaret Mary "Peg" O'Laughlin of Falls Church, Va; one daughter-in-law, Tia O'Laughlin; twelve grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 47 years, William T. O'Laughlin; and a son, William W. O'Laughlin. She was a member of St. Joseph University Parish, where she was active in the Altar Society and the Secular Franciscan Order. She also was a member of the Compassionate Friends of the Wabash Valley. In the late 1960s, she served the Covered Bridge Girl Scouts as a junior and cadet leader, and was a Cub Scout den mother for the Boy Scouts. A graduate of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority and was instrumental in establishing the local Phi Mu alumnae chapter, in addition to serving a term as National A/V Chairman of the sorority. She worked as a merchandising consultant for Hooks Drugs for 20 years, retiring in 1993. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Paul Schloemer officiating. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday in Callahan Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Avenue, with rosary service at 7 p.m. Cremation is scheduled. Burial is in Calvary cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the Secular Franciscan Order of St. Joseph's Parish or Hospice of the Wabash Valley.

Rose Anne Payne

Rose Ann Payne, 70, of Terre Haute, died at 2:40 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2004, in Union Hospital. She was retired from Carosi's Restaurant. She was born February 11, 1934, in Farmersburg to Ralph Sparks and Marie Felton Sparks. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ronnie K. Payne; a daughter, Rhonda Casey and her husband Jerry of Terre Haute; three sons, Chuck Payne of Terre Haute, Mark Payne and his wife Jean Ann of Terre Haute and Curt Payne and his wife Lyndi of Rockville; a sister, Glenda Bonte of Terre Haute; two brothers, Bill Sparks of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Garry Sparks of Ashland City, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Michael Payne, Dustin Higgins, Shelby Payne and Curtis Payne; four step grandchildren, Lyndsay McKinley, Kelsey Harrold, Katelyn Harrold and Sarah Casey; several sisters-in-law; several brothers-in-law, including James W. Joseph Sr. of Terre Haute; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jim Sparks and Ralph Sparks Jr.; five sisters, Donna Joseph, Wanda Johnson, Phyllis Sparks, Lavada Elkins and Viva Lance; and three brothers-in-law, Donald Bonte Sr., Robert Johnson and Kenneth Elkins. She was a graduate of Wiley High School and a member of American Legion Post 104 Auxiliary. Funeral services are 1 p.m. Monday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with the Rev. Larry Scott officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. If friends should so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 9445 Delegates Row, Indianapolis, IN 46240, or to the Vigo County Education Foundation, P.O. Box 3703, Terre Haute, IN 47803.

Majel D. Worley

Majel D. Worley, 76, of Terre Haute, died at 2:10 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2004, in Union Hospital. She was a retired clerk in the loan department at Merchants National Bank. She was born Aug. 16, 1927, in Parke County to Scott Coombes and Stella Martin Coombes. Her husband, Glenn Austin Worley, preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 2000. Survivors include one son, Jack Worley and his wife Patti; two sisters, Barbara A. Coombes Akers and Linda Coombes Frey; two sisters-in-law, Betty Coombes and Mary Jane Coombes; three grandchildren; Zachary Worley, Ali McLaughlin and Lexy McLaughlin; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; five sisters; and one son, Rick McLaughlin. She was a member of Terre Haute Women's Bowling Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972, member of the Women's Auxiliary and a member of AARP. Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Rev. Scott Coombes officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Margaret Bell Davis

BRAZIL - Margaret Bell Davis, 78, of Brazil, died at 12:38 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born Jan. 8, 1926, in Brazil to Andrew Wright and Beatrice Catton Wright. Survivors include one son, Carl McKinney Jr.; one daughter, Peggy Brown and her husband Charles; two grandchildren, Jennifer Snoddy and her husband Wade and Patrick Brown and his wife Shannon; one great-grandson, Hunter Michael Brown; and one sister, Mary Muncie, all of Brazil. Services are 2 p.m. Monday in Moore Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Sampson officiating. Burial is in Summit Lawn cemetery. Visitation is noon to services Monday in the funeral home.

Margaret L. Arnold

JASONVILLE - Margaret L. Arnold, 79, of Indianapolis, and formerly of Jasonville, died at 12:19 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2004, in Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. She was a homemaker. She was born May 26, 1925, in Greene County to Quince Thomas and Elizabeth Zuder Thomas. Her husband, Estel "Junior" Arnold Jr., preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 1994. She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Mondary and her husband John of Indianapolis, and Lisa Arnold and friend Steve Salvati of East Haven, Conn.; one son, Larry Arnold and his wife Linda of Terre Haute; grandchildren, Leigh and Scott Gilmore, Todd and Leslie Arnold, Matt and Karen Mondary, Megan and Nate Wallen, Andy Strahla and Sharon Drew; great-grandchildren, Amber Gilmore, Kylie and Emma Arnold and Bethany Salvati; and one sister, Marjorie Knox and her husband John of Jasonville. She also was preceded in death by her parents. She was a member of Southport Baptist Church in Indianapolis. Services are 1 p.m. Monday in McClanahan-Lee Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harold Thomas officiating. Burial is in Antioch cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to services Monday in the funeral home.

Gregg L. Gastineau

ROCKVILLE - Gregg L. Gastineau, 50, of Indianapolis, and formerly of Rockville, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, in his residence. He was a computer operator for the State of Indiana. He was born Dec. 31, 1953, in Clinton to Charles R. Gastineau and Wilma L. Pyle Gastineau. Survivors include his mother Wilma, of Rockville; one brother, John R. Gastineau and his wife Jane of Fort Wayne; one sister, Gayla Breslauer and her husband Gary of Carmel; nieces and nephews, Adam Gastineau and Clare Gastineau of Fort Wayne, and Robyn Breslauer and Shelley Breslauer of Carmel. He was a 1972 graduate of Rockville High School and a graduate of Vincennes University and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. He was a member of Rockville First United Methodist Church. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday in Gooch Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jenny Charles officiating. Burial is in Memory Garden cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. today in the funeral home. If friends should so desire, memorials may be made to Rockville First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 142, Rockville, IN 47872, or the Epilepsy Foundation, 4351 Garden City Dr., Landover, MD 20785.

Virginia M. Dean

Virginia M. Dean, 88, of Tampa Fla., formerly of Chicago and Terre Haute, died Thursday, July 24, 2004, in Carrollwood Care Center in Tampa. She was born Jan. 15, 1916, to Luther Yeager and Nellie Martin Yeager in Palestine, Ill. She is survived by her son, Jan and his wife Susan, and their daughter, Stephanie, of Lutz, Fla.; and by her son Jeffrey and his wife Betty of Scottsdale, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil and one son, George. Services were conducted in Tampa.

Frank L. Miklozek

Frank Louis Miklozek, 89, of Gaithersburg, Md., and formerly of Terre Haute, died of a heart attack on Tuesday, July 13, 2004, in Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Springs, Md. He was former National President and Executive Director of the National Association of Postmasters (NAPUS), and the Postmaster of Terre Haute for 23 years. He was born in Terre Haute and resided here for most of his life. His wife of 59 years, Louise Stoffers Miklozek, survives him. Other survivors include three children, Frank Jr., a farmer and farrier in Terre Haute, and his wife Beth Miklozek, Dr. Candace Miklozek McNulty, a cardiologist in Reno, Nev., and Dr. Meredith Miklozek, a veterinarian in Gaithersburg; and four grandchildren, Frank L. III, a sales representative in Terre Haute, John Miklozek, a student at Indiana University, Benjamin Miklozek, a student at Indiana State University and Elizabeth Miklozek. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. John Miklozek, of Terre Haute. He was a graduate of Indiana State University with an A.B. degree and from Indiana University Law School with a J.D. degree. He received the Distinguished Alumni Award from ISU. After graduating from IU Law School in 1939, he practiced law until he entered the U.S. armed forces in 1941. He was appointed Assistant City Attorney for Terre Haute and later as Postmaster of Terre Haute from 1950 to 1973. He then assumed the position of Executive Director of NAPUS, where he served until his retirement in 1986. Services were Saturday, July 17, in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Gaithersburg. If friends so desire, memorial gifts may be made to the Frank L. Miklozek Sr. Scholarship Fund at Indiana State University Foundation, Room 320, Gillum Hall, Terre Haute, IN 47809.

Effie Viola Misner

Effie Viola Misner, 98, of Fort Myers, Fla., and formerly of Terre Haute, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, in the Winkler Court Nursing Home in Fort Myers. She was born Oct. 3, 1905, in Clark County, Ill., to Homer Horsley and Emma Brown Horsley. Her husband, Clifford T. Misner, preceded her in death in 1979. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Clifford "Max" Misner and Audrey Misner of Fort Myers; a daughter-in-law, Helen Joab Misner of St. Mary-of-the-Woods; three grandchildren, Susan Misner, Ken Misner and Scott Misner; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by a son, Edwin Misner, in 1990; a brother, Homer; and three sisters, Bell, Margaret and Gertrude. She had previously attended Bethany United Church of Christ in West Terre Haute. According to her wishes, cremation took place in Florida. A graveside service for burial of her ashes is on Tuesday, Sept. 7, in South Vigo cemetery, with Joe Irwin officiating. Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home in West Terre Haute assisted with local arrangements.

Paul R. Schell

Paul R. Schell, 69, of Terre Haute, died at 11:42 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, in Union Hospital. He was a retired self-employed laborer. He was born November 24, 1934, in Terre Haute to Forrest Schell and Vada Acree Schell. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha and Earl Slavens Sr. and Suzanne and Wayne Closson; three sons, Danny Schell, Stacy Schell, and Jerry Schell and his wife Tammy, all of Terre Haute; his girlfriend, Julie Robins, Terre Haute; one sister, Anita Belmar, Rantoul, Ill.; thirteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two children, Patricia Schell and Richard Duane Schell. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Grandview cemetery with the Rev. Ron Bartlow officiating. Visitation is 10 a.m. to services in the cemetery. Callahan Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Avenue, assisted with arrangements.

Maurice Wilson Jr.

Maurice Wilson Jr., 26, of Terre Haute, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, in Terre Haute. He was an operator with a recycling company. He was born Nov. 29, 1977, in Terre Haute to Shelia Hutchinson and Maurice Wilson Sr. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Shelia Hutchinson Beck and Richard Beck; his father and stepmother, Maurice Wilson Sr. and Glenda R. Wilson; grandparents, Terry Wilson Jr. and Shirley D. Wilson; one daughter, Destiny Cierra Wilson, two sons, Reec/ "Jae Jaqua" Wilson and ç Mauryae LeBron Wilson; one brother, Terry Wilson III; two sisters, Latasha Celise Wilson and Cherae Lynn Schoffstall-Wilson; and Laura Ann O'Connell, special friend. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alvin and Savannah Walden. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday in True Gospel Tabernacle, with Bishop Quentin Isabell officiating. Burial is in Grandview cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m. to services Saturday in the church. Russell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Leroy M. Rhoads

MARSHALL, Ind. - Leroy M. Rhoads, 62, of Marshall died at 10:58 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2004, in Union Hospital. He was a retired sawyer for Baird Sawmill in Guion and he also was a farmer. He was born April 30, 1942, in Hayman's Ridge, W. Va. to Leon Rhoads and Flossie Griffin Rhoads. His first wife, Brenda Pearson Rhoads, whom he married on Aug. 24, 1963, preceded him in death on May 24, 1989. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Edwards Rhoads, whom he married July 21, 1990, in Marshall; two sons, Roy L. Rhoads and his wife Rebecca of Rockville and Tony Keller and his wife Amy of Marshall; one daughter, Brenda Leray Brown and her friend Joe Riley Jr. of Veedersburg; one sister, Colleen Furr and her husband Sidney of Rockville; and one granddaughter, Makayla "Shorty" Keller of Marshall. He also was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Leroy Rhoads on July 19, 1965; one brother, Jackie Rhoads; and a sister, Betty Rhoads. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Gooch Funeral Home in Rockville, with the Rev. Bob Grider officiating. Burial is in Poplar Grove cemetery in Marshall. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Saturday in the funeral home.

Alice Marie Bartlett

Alice Marie Bartlett, 84, formerly of Terre Haute died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, in her daughter's residence in southern California. She was born July 3, 1920, in Riley to Grover C. Baker and Rula Price Baker. Her high school sweetheart and husband of 41 years, Paul Bartlett, died earlier. Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Bartlett Henry of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; one son, Paul Jack Bartlett of Speedway; granddaughter, Paula Henry Stussy and her husband, Shawn and their sons, Penn, Chet and Tate; granddaughter, Peggy Henry Weber and her husband, Jeff; grandson, Mike Henry and his wife, Lucia; granddaughter, Meredith Bartlett and her sons, Aaron, Adam and Addison; grandson, Scott Bartlett and his wife, Donielle and their son, Brock; nieces, Vicki Broyles Waltz and Suzy Broyles Long; nephews, Carl T. Baker and James Baker; and great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and numerous cousins. She was a 1937 graduate of Gerstmeyer High School. Services and burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are pending. The family suggests, that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to "Saddleback Memorial Foundation for Hospice, " Saddleback Memorial Medical Center, 24451 Health Center Drive, Laguna Hills, CA 92653. Roselawn Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Mary Kathryn Bauer

Mary Kathryn "Kay" Bauer, 57, of Terre Haute died at 4:22 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998. She was an Interior Designer and was a member of A.S.I.D., for more than 30 years. She was the owner of Kay's Interiors and also worked for Nees Galleries for several years. Most recently, she was a partner in "Off the Bolt" and was once again self-employed as Bauer Designs. She was born Feb. 5, 1947, in Columbus, Ohio, to Robert Malcolm Jones and Jane Knox Jones. Survivors include two daughters, Nicole McBride and her husband, Brian of Florence, S.C., and Elizabeth Bauer of Terre Haute; her mother; one brother, Donald A. Jones and his wife, Nancy Seidel Jones; three grandchildren, Mercy, Brayton and Brinson McBride; two nieces; and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her father; and one grandson, Bryce Nathaniel McBride. She was a 1965 graduate of Garfield High School and a 1969 graduate of Indiana State University. She was an active member of First Assembly of God Church, a volunteer for the Crisis Pregnancy Center and served on the board of directors of Numerical Concepts, Inc. Services are 6 p.m. Thursday in First Assembly of God Church at 2929 N. Seventh St., with the Revs. Brian McBride and Keith E. Taylor officiating. Burial is 10 a.m. Friday in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday. The family suggests, that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley; or, to the Crisis Pregnancy Center. Mattox-Ryan Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
