Richard A. Gardiner

Lt. Cmdr. Richard A. Gardiner, 93, retired Navy veteran, of Terre Haute died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, in Davis Gardens Health Center. He was a professor emeritus of Indiana State University, teaching in the mathematics department. He was born April 11, 1911, in Washington, Ind., to Isaac Gardiner and Mary Williams Gardiner. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Dykes Gardiner, whom he married April 11, 1933, in Washington, D.C.; one daughter, Pamela Moore and her husband, O.C., of New Castle; one son, Kent Gardiner of Seelyville; one brother, Warren Gardiner and his wife, Brenda of Terre Haute; and one sister, Edna Yarnell Shoals. He graduated magna cum laude from ISU. In accordance with his wishes, cremation is scheduled, with scattering of the ashes at a later date. Mattox-Ryan Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Amber Lynn Jolly

CLAY CITY - Amber Lynn Jolly, 21, of Clay City died at 5:10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She had been working at Great Dane in Brazil since April 2004. She was born Jan. 8, 1983, in Pender, Neb., to Donald Barron and Linda Ferguson Barron. Survivors include her husband, Billy Jolly; children, Taylor Jade Jolly, age 21/2 and Riley McKenzie Jolly, age 1; her parents of Boynton Beach, Fla.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mischelle and Tom Anderson of Brazil, Randi and Jim Staley of Clay City and Kimberly and Jeremy Mikel of Sebring, Fla.; one brother, Donald Barron II and his wife, Dejah of Jasonville; her father and mother-in-law, Billy Wayne and Bessie Mae Green of Lorida, Fla.; one brother-in-law, Jason Jolly; three sisters-in-law, Reva Willbarger, Jennifer Green and Billie Jean Green; 16 nieces and nephews; many aunts and uncles; and a large extended family. She lived in the Clay City area from the age of 1 to 10, when her parents relocated to the Okeechobee, Fla., area. She lived there until two years ago, when she and her husband moved back to Clay City. She had just completed her GED degree and had celebrated her graduation. She loved her children and husband dearly. Services are 1 p.m. Friday in Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, with Rev. Harpole officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Dorothy V. Hollingsworth

CLINTON - Dorothy V. Hollingsworth, 77, of Clinton died at 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, in Royal Oaks Health & Rehabilitation Center in Terre Haute. She was born Feb. 1, 1927, in Hymera to Tom Reed and Marie Reed. Her husband, John R. Hollingsworth, died July 29, 2003. Survivors include one son, John L. Hollingsworth of San Antonio; two daughters, Jeanne McLeish of Mooresville and Joanne Bennett of Indianapolis; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents. Cremation is scheduled. There are no services or visitation. Frist Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Mary Kathryn Bauer

Mary Kathryn "Kay" Bauer, 57, of Terre Haute died at 4:22 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998. She was an Interior Designer and was a member of A.S.I.D., for more than 30 years. She was the owner of Kay's Interiors and also worked for Nees Galleries for several years. Most recently, she was a partner in "Off the Bolt" and was once again self-employed as Bauer Designs. She was born Feb. 5, 1947, in Columbus, Ohio, to Robert Malcolm Jones and Jane Knox Jones. Survivors include two daughters, Nicole McBride and her husband, Brian of Florence, S.C., and Elizabeth Bauer of Terre Haute; her mother; one brother, Donald A. Jones and his wife, Nancy Seidel Jones; three grandchildren, Mercy, Brayton and Brinson McBride; two nieces; and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her father; and one grandson, Bryce Nathaniel McBride. She was a 1965 graduate of Garfield High School and a 1969 graduate of Indiana State University. She was an active member of First Assembly of God Church, a volunteer for the Crisis Pregnancy Center and served on the board of directors of Numerical Concepts, Inc. Services are 6 p.m. Thursday in First Assembly of God Church at 2929 N. Seventh St., with the Revs. Brian McBride and Keith E. Taylor officiating. Burial is 10 a.m. Friday in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday. The family suggests, that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley; or, to the Crisis Pregnancy Center. Mattox-Ryan Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Barbara T. Toth Bielaczyc

Barbara T. Toth Bielaczyc, 76, of Collinsville, Ill., and formerly of Terre Haute, died at 4:20 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, in Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill. She retired as a speech therapist for Unit 10 Schools in Collinsville, after 15 years of service. She was born April 4, 1928, in Danville, Ill., to Andrew Toth and Elizabeth Sovonya Toth. Survivors include her husband, Michael F. Bielaczyc; one son, David Bielaczyc and his wife, Deborah of Troy, Ill.; one daughter, Janie Holtz and her husband, Adam of Fort Worth; and one aunt, Margaret Pittman of Collinsville. She received her bachelor of arts degree from Indiana State University, was a member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville and was a volunteer at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. Cremation is scheduled. The Herbert A. Kassly Funeral Home in Collinsville assisted with arrangements. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society; or, to the American Cancer Society.

William Merritt Noel

William Merritt Noel, 86, of Paris, Texas, and formerly of Terre Haute, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, in Paris Regional Medical Center. He was manager of engineering and maintenance for Campbell Soup Co., retiring after 34 years of service. He was born Aug. 19, 1917, in Terre Haute to B.H. Noel and Edna Turner Noel. Survivors include his wife, Helen Tod Larrance Noel, whom he married Dec. 27, 1941, in Terre Haute; two sons, Larrance Merritt Noel of Ramsey, N.J., and Merritt Andrew Noel and his wife, Delise of Coppell, Texas; one sister, Naomi Heaton of Indianapolis; and grandchildren, William Merritt Noel II, Thomas Andrew Noel, Taylor Larrance Noel and Kelly Elizabeth Noel. He graduated from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology with a degree in mechanical and electrical engineering. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II, in the European Theatre, and was discharged in August 1945, with the rank of major. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Founders Lions Club and Paris Golf and Country Club. The Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home in Paris assisted with arrangements.

Edith Krackenberger

Edith Krackenberger, 81, of Terre Haute died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was a homemaker. She was born Sept. 14, 1922, in Terre Haute to George Siner and Iva Wood Siner. Survivors include one son, Allyn Krackenberger and his wife, Jan of Terre Haute; two grandsons, Joshua Krackenberger of Terre Haute and Eric Krackenberger and his girlfriend, Dana Overpeck; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Siner of Terre Haute; two nephews, Mike Siner of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Mark Siner of Rockford, Ill.; two nieces, Micki Siner of Avon and Marsha Toney and her husband, Gregg of Terre Haute; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Kenneth Siner; and one sister, Beverly Siner. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in Grandview cemetery, with the Rev. David Deal officiating. There is no visitation. The family suggests, that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Breden Memorial United Methodist Church; or, to the charity of donor's choice. The Callahan Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Wayne W. Taylor

Wayne W. Taylor, 88, of Terre Haute died at 10:05 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, in Union Hospital. He was a retired foreman for Mecco Inc., in Paris, Ill. He was born Aug. 18, 1916, in Foosland, Ill., to George W. Taylor and Sarah "Sally" Davis Taylor. Survivors include his wife, Cathryn Ackerman Taylor, whom he married Jan. 27, 1940; one son and his wife, George R. and Martha C. Taylor; one brother and his wife, Roy and Virginia Taylor of Taylorville, Ill.; two sisters, Nellie Marquis of Decatur, Ill., and Helen Hardwick of California; seven grandchildren, Kimberly and Donald McIntyre, Timothy and Donna Taylor, Stacy Taylor, Tracy Taylor, Rene and William Carter Jr., Andrew Boyke and Lori Ann Taylor; 10 great-grandchildren, Shaun Carter, William Carter III, Travis Taylor, Timothy Taylor, Chelsea Taylor, Robert Carter, Maranda Carter, David A. Jones, Christopher S. Walton and Michaela Marie Boyke; two great-great-grandchildren, Travis Marquis Taylor and Kendra Rene Lynn Weir; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services are 1 p.m. Thursday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Rev. Larry Mathias officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Thursday.

Carlo Fenoglio

CLINTON - Carlo Fenoglio, 92, of Clinton died at 1:18 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, in Meadows Manor North Retirement & Convalescent Center in Terre Haute. He was owner of Fenoglio's Clothing and Shoe Store in Clinton. He was born March 14, 1912, in Clinton to Peter Fenoglio and Maria Genisio-Fenoglio. His wife, Aurora Costa-Fenoglio, died May 13, 2001. Survivors include one brother, Domenic Fenoglio of Chesterton; one sister-in-law, Carolina "Lena" Costa of Clinton; one niece, Judy Jones of Clinton; one nephew, Gene Fenoglio of Algonquin, Ill.; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Andrew "Neno" Fenoglio Dec. 2, 1993. He was a Navy veteran of World War II; a second commander of Clinton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6653; and a 50-year member of Clinton Lion's Club. He and his wife, Aurora were Re and Regina of Clinton's Little Italy Festival in 1977. Prayer services are 1:45 p.m. Wednesday in Karanovich-Giovanini Funeral Home, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m., in Sacred Heart Church, with the Rev. Joseph Villa officiating. Burial is in Walnut Grove cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with Lions Club services at 7 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of their choice.

Charles H. Spangler

ROCKVILLE - Charles H. Spangler, 68, of Rockville died at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, in Home Hospital in Lafayette. He retired in 1993 from Eli Lilly and Co., Clinton Laboratories, with 38 years of service. He was born Feb. 14, 1936, in Linton to Forrest Alden Spangler and Jewell McKinley Evans Spangler. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Sue Rumpza Spangler, whom he married Oct. 16, 1965, in Lafayette; a son and daughter-in-law, Todd C. and Angel Spangler of Rockville; three daughters, Teresa Jill Spangler, Tracy Jo Bertram and husband Robert, and Tamara Sue Spangler, all of Lafayette; two brothers, Donald Spangler of Bloomington and June Spangler of Rockville; four grandchildren, Olivia Rae Bertram and Savannah Grace Bertram, both of Lafayette, Drake Charles Spangler and Jade Elizabeth Spangler, both of Rockville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, Christopher Bertram in 1991. He was a 1955 graduate of Midland High School, where he played trumpet in the band and served as manager for the basketball team. He served 15 years in Lafayette for Eli Lilly and became a member of the start-up crew for the Clinton Laboratory, where he was a supervisor and a senior utility operator. While living in Lafayette he was an avid bowler on five leagues. He was a member of Rockville First Baptist Church and Rockville Elk's Lodge 2471. He served two terms on the Rockville Community School Board and was a member of the former Rockville Optimist Club. He was a scorekeeper for Rockville High School baseball and basketball programs, was a spotter and scorekeeper for Rockville football, and helped establish the Rockville Summer Baseball League, now known as Parke County Youth League. He helped develop and organize the "Potato Shack" to raise funds for the support of PCYL. He was a volunteer for the Rockville Athletic Boosters "BBQ Shack" and also the Elk's Pork Chop and Rockville Music Boosters stands, all located at the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival. Services are 2 p.m. Friday in Rockville Christian Church, west on U.S. Highway 36, with the Rev. Dana J. Spurgeon officiating. Burial is in Beacon Hill cemetery, south of Rockville. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Christian Church. Memorials, should friends so desire, may be made to the Rockville First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 130, Rockville, IN 47872. Gooch Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Ruth Marie Heidenreich Shake

POPLAR SPRINGS COMMUNITY, Tenn. - Ruth Marie Heidenreich Shake, 82, of Poplar Springs Community in Overton County, and formerly of Sandborn, Ind., died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, in her residence. She was a homemaker. She was born Sept. 4, 1921, in Westphalia, Ind., to Carl Heidenreich and Irene Stolting Heidenreich. Survivors include her husband, Doyle Shake; two sons, Brent Shake of Poplar Springs Community; and Brad Shake and his wife, Robin of Naples, Ind.; three daughters, Beth Phillips and her husband, Fred of Poplar Springs Community, Kay Ball and her husband, T.J. of Linton, Ind., and Belinda Atlogic and her husband, John of Oquawka, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Lisa Howard, Felicia Phillips, Lee Phillips, Adina Smock, Kimberly Nickless, Matthew Hollingsworth, Jim Shake, Justin Phillips and Justin Ball; 12 great-grandchildren, Britney, Johnny, Paige, Ethan, Bethany, Kayla, Aspen, Taylor, Brady, Baily, Bonnie and Cameron; and one sister, Shirley Miller of Edwardsport, Ind. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Karen Shake; and two brothers, Elmer "Bud" Heidenreich and Ralph Heidenreich. She was a member of Sandborn United Methodist Church and was affiliated with Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Tennessee. She was a member of Mother's Evening Homemakers' Club in Indiana. Memorial services are 6:30 p.m. Friday in Sandborn United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dewey Glenn Masters officiating. Visitation is 5 p.m. until services Friday, in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Poplar Springs Baptist Church; or to Lazarus House Hospice. Speck Funeral Home of Livingston, Tenn., assisted with arrangements.

Marcia Lynn Bland

Marcia Lynn Bland, 57, of West Terre Haute, died at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital emergency room. Before her illness, she was employed in the bakery in Wal-Mart. She was born June 14, 1947, in Terre Haute, to James Higgins and Opal Misner Higgins. Survivors include one son, Jeff Bland of Terre Haute; one daughter, Sherri Gray of Terre Haute; three sisters, Sue Foster of Terre Haute, Hilda Martin of Tulsa, Okla., and Vera McGrew and her husband Leroy of Sandy, Ore; two brothers, Billy Higgins and his wife Ann and Tod Higgins and his wife Pauline, all of Terre Haute; and five grandchildren, Jessica Gray, Brandy Sims, and Mikey, Darla and Brian. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, James Higgins. Services are 10 a.m. today in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with Pastor Marvin Brown officiating. Burial is in Bethesda cemetery in West Terre Haute.

Jack Duane Lee

Jack Duane Lee, 73, of Neosho, Mo., and formerly of Terre haute, died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, in his residence following a sudden illness. He was a copper miner in Tucson, Ariz., and also worked for Tyson Foods in Neosho. He was born Sept. 30, 1930, in Terre Haute to Glen C. Lee and Ethel Waugh Lee. He is survived by his son, Cardis F. Lee of Neosho; one brother, Warner Lee and his wife Marcia of Phoenix; and two nieces, Kristin Lee of Phoenix and Paige Beck of Kansas City, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a member of the 196th infantry from 1951 to 1953, and was stationed in Alaska. Memorial services are 11 a.m. Monday in Oak Hill Methodist Church in Riley, with the Rev. Aaron Wheaton officiating. Inurnment will follow in Oak Hill cemetery. Mattox-Ryan Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

George 'Mike' Dilley

George "Mike" Dilley, 48, of Cadiz, Ky., died at 4 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, in his residence, of natural causes. He was a tow operator for Johnson Control. He was born Feb. 16, 1956, in Akron, Ohio to George A. Dilley and Dorothy Angle Dilley Ball. Survivors include his wife, Connie Dillie, of Cadiz; his mother, Dorothy; three sons, James Dilley, Joseph Dilley and Michael Dilley; two sisters, Julie Bowles of West Terre Haute and Jackie Gilstrap of Sullivan; three brothers, the Rev. Anthony Dilley, Mark Thompson of Bloomington, Ind., and Billy Dilley of Los Angeles; a stepdaughter, Leah Goff of Illinois; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Jerry Dilley; and his stepfather, Roy T. Ball. He had completed 12 years of education. He was a member of Canton Baptist Church. Services are 8 p.m. today in Valley Funeral Home in West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Anthony Dilley officiating. Burial is in Bethesda Garden cemetery. Pallbearers are James Dilley, Michael Dilley, Joseph Dilley, Mark Thompson, Billy Dilley, Julie Bowles, David Gilstrap and Chad Pirtle. Visitation is 2 pm. to services today in the funeral home.
