James E. Switzer

James E. Switzer Sr., 72, of West Terre Haute, died at 7:50 a.m. Thursday Aug. 12, 2004, in the Union Hospital emergency room. He retired as a truck driver from the Teamsters Union Local 144 after 38 years of service, during which he served as the business agent for 19 years. He was born July 28, 1932, in Terre Haute to Robert Switzer and Lillian Florence Hughes Switzer. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Betty J. Alkire Switzer, whom he married on March 28, 1952, in West Terre Haute; two sons, Robert "Bear" Switzer and his wife, Sharon of Marshall, Ill., and David and Patty Switzer of West Terre Haute; two daughters, Connie Beaver and her husband Bob and Janet Switzer Blankenbeker, all of West Terre Haute; three sisters, Mary Margaret Montgomery and her husband Bob, Betty Irene Scott, and Becky Wilson and her husband Bill, all of Terre Haute; seven brothers, Earl Switzer and his wife Norma of Las Vegas, Harry Switzer and his wife, Nandy of Tucson, Ariz., Jack Switzer and his wife Betty, Paul Switzer and his wife Paula, and Danny Switzer and his wife Freda, all of Terre Haute, Carl Switzer and Bill Switzer and his wife Kay, all of West Terre Haute; thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James E. "Jimmy" "Bubba" Switzer Jr. on Jan. 3, 2003, and a sister, Marie Switzer. He attended the New Life Center Church in Terre Haute. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 687 F&AM; in West Terre Haute, the Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, the York Rite Valley of Terre Haute, the White Shrine and the Zorah Shrine Temple, of which he was a member of the Purple Jesters, the Camel Herders, and the director staff. He was a Marine veteran of the Korean conflict. Services are 1 p.m. Monday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jamie Switzer officiating. Burial is in Grandview cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a Masonic memorial service at 7 p.m., and 7 a.m. to services Monday in the funeral home. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, with envelopes available in the funeral home.

James D. Miller

SHELBURN - James D. Miller, 89, of Shelburn, died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, in his residence. He was a retired farmer and a mechanic at local automobile dealers and the county highway department. He was born Sept. 30, 1914, in Sullivan County to James R. Miller and Ellen McNeil Miller. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Vera Mae Kemp Miller. Survivors include one sister and brother-in-law, Beulah and Max Halberstadt; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He also was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Mary McIntosh, Lucille Carmichael, Bessie Glasgow and Clara Riley; and one brother, Charlie Miller. He was a veteran of World War II, and a member of the Shelburn American Legion Post 197. Services are 2:30 p.m. today in Banks & Brust Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Ransford officiating. Burial with American Legion Hymera, Shelburn and Sullivan posts conducting military rites is in Little Flock cemetery. Visitation is noon to services today in the funeral home.

Virginia Maxine Samford Hasler

BLOOMFIELD - Virginia Maxine Samford Hasler, 84, of Bloomfield, and formerly of Chrisman, Ill., died at 5:32 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, in Clarion-Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was a homemaker. She was born Feb. 3, 1920, in Chrisman to James Matterson Samford and Catherine Lucas Samford Brinkerhoff. Her husband, Garland Forst Hasler of Bloomfield, whom she married on Aug. 5, 1939, survives her. Also surviving are two sons, Dwight F. Hasler and his wife Lynne of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Donald E. Hasler and his wife Janet of Lyons; one daughter, LaVerne Hasler Laxen and her husband, Cmdr. Richard Laxen of Houston; grandchildren, Cmdr. Mark R. Laxen, Lori Laxen-Brown, Erich D. Hasler and his wife Chelle, Michael E. Hasler and his wife Dena, Linda Cornelius and her husband Chris, Diana M. Hasler and Christian J. Hasler; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Madilyn, Grace and Melanie Hasler, and Hunter, Brayton and Olivia Cornelius; and two sisters, June Unseld of Paris, Ill., and Willella Bubeck and her husband Frank of West Union, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was a member of Bloomfield United Methodist Church, and Order of Eastern Star, Newberry chapter. Services are 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton, with the Rev. David Owen officiating. Interment is in Prairie Chapel in Newberry. Visitation is 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Greene County Foundation.

Marcia Lynn Bland

Marcia Lynn Bland, 57, of West Terre Haute, died at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital emergency room. Before her illness, she was employed in the bakery in Wal-Mart. She was born June 14, 1947, in West Terre Haute, to James Higgins and Opal Misner Higgins. Survivors include one son, Jeff Bland of Terre Haute; one daughter, Sherri Gray of Terre Haute; three sisters, Sue Foster of Terre Haute, Hilda Martin of Tulsa, Okla., and Vera McGrew and her husband Leroy of Sandy, Ore; two brothers, Billy Higgins and his wife Ann and Tod Higgins and his wife Pauline, all of Terre Haute; and five grandchildren, Jessica Gray, Brandy Sims, and Mikey, Darla and Brian. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, James Higgins. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Rev. Marvin Brown officiating. Burial is in Bethesda cemetery in West Terre Haute. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Maurice Busiere

Maurice Busiere, 92, of Ellenton, Fla., and formerly of Terre Haute, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, in Hospice House in Palmetto, Fla. He was a retired railroad engineer. He was born April 7, 1912, in Missouri to Theophile and Helena Busiere. Survivors include one son, Jerry Busiere and his wife Jean of Ellenton; five grandchildren, Jeff, Jeanie and Jody Busiere, Jennie Chances and Jan Farrar; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Monday in Roselawn Memorial Park, with burial following. There is no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238. Roselawn Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Ethel V. Brownfield Erney

Ethel V. Brownfield Erney, 83, of Terre Haute, died at 1:50 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, in Union Hospital. She was a retired nurse's aide for Meadows Manor East and for the Vigo County Home. She was born June 4, 1921, in Terre Haute to Walter Brownfield and Flora Butcher Brownfield. Her husband, Bill Erney, whom she married on Oct. 8, 1942, preceded her in death on May 6, 1986. Survivors include two sons, Bill Erney and Richard Erney; one daughter, Suecinda Andrews; two brothers, Cecil Brownfield of Florida and Floyd Brownfield of Terre Haute; one sister, Jeanette Phillips of Terre Haute; two grandchildren, Dianna Hough and James Wallace; one great-grandchild, Kyler Wallace; two step grandchildren, Mike Stewart and Sherree Wright; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Caroline Stewart and Haley Stewart. She also was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Kenneth Brownfield, Scott Brownfield and Richard W. Brownfield; and three sisters, Charlotte Merritt, Louise Smith and Edna Edwards. She enjoyed cooking and reading. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday in DeBaun Idaho Street Chapel. Burial is in Highland Lawn cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m. to services Saturday in the funeral home.

George 'Mike' Dilley

George "Mike" Dilley, 48, of Cadiz, Ky., died at 4 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, in his residence, of natural causes. He was a tow operator for Johnson Control. He was born Feb. 16, 1956, in Akron, Ohio to George A. Dilley and Dorothy Angle Dilley Ball. Survivors include his wife, Connie Dillie, of Cadiz, three sons, James Dilley, Joseph Dilley and Michael Dilley; two sisters, Julie Bowles of West Terre Haute and Jackie Gilstrap of Sullivan; three brothers, the Rev. Anthony Dilley, Mark Thompson of Bloomington, Ind., and Billy Dilley of Los Angeles; a stepdaughter, Leah Goff of Illinois; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jerry Dilley; and his stepfather, Roy T. Ball. He had completed 12 years of education. He was a member of Canton Baptist Church. Services are 8 p.m. Saturday in Valley Funeral Home in West Terre Haute, with the Rev. Anthony Dilley officiating. Burial is in Bethesda Garden cemetery. Pallbearers are James Dilley, Michael Dilley, Joseph Dilley, Mark Thompson, Billy Dilley, Julie Bowles, David Gilstrap and Chad Pirtle. Visitation is 2 pm. to services Saturday in the funeral home.

David. L. Millspaugh

ROCKVILLE - David L. Millspaugh, 65, of Rockville, died Wednesday Aug. 11, 2004, in the emergency room of West Central Community Hospital in Clinton. He was owner of Millspaugh Trucking in Rockville and a school bus driver for Rockville Community Schools. He had worked for CBS in Terre Haute, was the former owner of Dave's Log Cabin 500 Platolene Service Station, a furniture stripping business and co-owner of Millspaugh's Wrecker Service in Rockville. He also previously owned Rockville Trash Removal. He was born Feb. 1, 1939, in Black Oak to Ellis E. Millspaugh and Olive Summers Millspaugh. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Mary Ann Bradfield Millspaugh, whom he married on June 17, 1957, in Kingman. Also surviving is his mother, Olive, of Sandcut; one son, John D. Millspaugh and his wife Heidi of Rockville; two daughters, Chris A. Lear and her husband Jeffery of Rockville, Lynn Camerer and her husband Norman of Rockville; one brother, Jim Millspaugh of Rockville; two sisters, Janie Cottrell of Sandcut and Tana Kilburn of Oneco, Fla; seven grandchildren, Jason Lear, Justin Lear, Eric Lear, Jennifer Camerer, Leslie Camerer, Macy Millspaugh and Madison Millspaugh. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Gene Millspaugh. He was a member of Parke Lodge 8 F&AM;, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute and Rockville Elks Lodge 2471. He was a former member of the Rockville-Adams Township Fire Department and the Parke County Rescue Squad. He served on the Parke County Alcohol Advisory Board. He was an avid golfer and bowler. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday in Gooch Funeral Home, with the Rev. Brad Bumgardner officiating. Burial is in Memory Garden cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home and before services Saturday. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted 8 p.m. Friday by Parke Lodge 8. Should friends so desire, memorials may be made to the Parke County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 276, Rockville, IN 47872, or the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, OH 44720.

John R. Streeter

CORY - John R. Streeter, 84, of Cory, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, in his residence. He retired in 1981 from Peabody Coal as director of reclamations after 47 years of service, beginning at the age of 16. He was a member of United Mine Workers. He also was a farmer and a carpenter. He was born Oct. 12, 1919, in Riley to Virgil Streeter and Hallie Ingram Streeter. He married Ruth L. Jeffers on Sept. 14, 1940, and she preceded him in death on March 27, 2002. Survivors include one son, James Streeter and his wife Jewell Kay of Vincennes; two daughters, Janice Myers of Cory and Jane Lewis and her husband David, both of Cory; grandchildren, John A. Streeter of Vincennes, Julie K. McCammon and her husband Dirk of Seelyville, Justin Collins of Cory, Ashley Collins of Cory, Jill Scott and her husband Darrick of West Terre Haute, David Myers and his wife Travella of Cory and Darrin Myers and his wife Trina of Cory; great-grandchildren, Annabelle M. McCammon, Jordynn Scott, Jaylynn Scott, Paiden Myers, Gavin Myers, Carter Myers and Lauryn Myers; and two sisters, Mary Moseman and her husband Glen of Riley and Thelma Thompson of Middlesboro, Ky. He also was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Noble Streeter, Russ Streeter and Bartie Streeter; two sisters, Mildred Cottom and Ruby Nicoson; and one great-grandaughter, Jaclynn Scott. Services are 2 p.m. Sunday in Mattox-Fox Funeral Home in Riley, with the Revs. Anthony Terrell and Owen Youngblood officiating. Interment is in Oak Hill cemetery in Riley. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center, 8402 Harcourt Rd., Suite 420, Indianapolis, IN 46260.

Idella Dosch

Idella Dosch, 83, of Terre Haute, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was a homemaker. She was born May 28, 1921, in Terre Haute to James E. Mattox and Gertrude Eslinger Mattox. She married Francis Dosch in 1941, and he preceded her in death. Survivors include three children, Frank Dosch, Larry Dosch and Judy Dosch Shields, all of Terre Haute; 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and one brother, Kenneth Mattox and his wife Doris of Brazil. She also was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Clarence, John and Robert; and a son-in-law, Estel Shields. She loved her family. She enjoyed eating out, especially at Ponderosa, which was her favorite restaurant. She loved watching "Mama's Family" and was active in her church, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Memorial services are 2 p.m. Saturday in the southside Kingdom Hall. Cremation has been scheduled. Visitation is 1 p.m. to services Saturday in the church.

Dorothy J. Spencer Stark

Dorothy J. Spencer Stark, 77, of Terre Haute, died at 10:50 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, in Union Hospital. She was born Jan. 17, 1927, in Terre Haute to John Sweet and Susan Corzine Sweet. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jack Murray Spencer and Joe Stark. She is survived by three sons, Jack Spencer and his wife Joyce of North Carolina, Paul Spencer of Terre Haute and Terry Spencer and his wife Susan of Indianapolis; two daughters, Connie Smock and her husband Joseph and Carol Graham and her husband Ronald, all of Terre Haute; two brothers, John Sweet of Terre Haute and Dale Sweet of Kendallville; 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; and five special nieces, Jeananne, Maria, Dale, Carol and Jane. She also was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Helen, Thelma and Nora; and two sons, James Spencer and Alan Spencer. She was a member of Community Alliance Church. Services are 5 p.m. Friday in Mattox-Ryan Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Davis officiating. Visitation is 2 p.m. to services Friday in the funeral home. Cremation is scheduled, with inurnment in Highland Lawn cemetery later. Memorial contributions may be made to the Autism Society of America, 7910 Woodmont Ave., Suite 300, Bethesda, MD 20814-3067, in the name of Caleb Spencer.

Lawrence Jack King

Lawrence Jack King, 69, of Houston, and formerly of Terre Haute, died Tuesday, June 29, 2004. He was a longtime resident of the Houston area, and had been the lounge manager at the NASA Holiday Inn and later with his wife, had owned and operated the Houston Regatta Inn for more than 25 years before retiring. He was born Feb. 17, 1935, in Terre Haute to Myrtle Leona Weeks King and Basil Henry "Red" King. Survivors include his wife, Malenee King; a brother, Gary A. King and his wife Joyce of Bargersville; two grandsons, Gary A. King II and Michael Ryan King of Bargersville; a sister-in-law, Tassannee Wheat and her husband William of Houston; and two nieces, Anna and Melee Wheat of Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents. Following his retirement, he graduated from the University of Houston at Clearlake, and taught middle school for five years. He served as mayor of Seabrook, Texas, for two terms. He also was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Korea and Germany. Memorial services are Saturday in Jack Rowe Funeral Home in League City, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Terre Haute YMCA.

Emmett L. Naselroad Sr.

VERMILLION COUNTY - Emmett L. Naselroad Sr., 81, of Anderson, and formerly of Vermillion County, died Aug. 7, 2004, in Community Hospital in Anderson following an extended illness. He was born in Vermillion County on May 26, 1923, to Thomas Naselroad and Ruth Robertson Naselroad. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Marion Dugger Naselroad of Anderson; three sons, Emmett Naselroad and his wife Carroll of Hockley, Texas, Kenneth D. Naselroad and his wife Dianna of Alexandria and Thomas L. Naselroad and his wife Janice of Anderson; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services are 1 p.m. today in Robert D. Loose Funeral Home and Crematory, south chapel, in Anderson, with the Rev. Gary McCaslin officiating. Burial is in Memorial Park cemetery in Anderson.
