John J. Yeager

John J. Yeager, 77, of Terre Haute died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004 in Royal Oaks Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He worked for Thomson-Symon for 33 years and retired from Bemis in the shipping department, after 13 years. He was born Oct. 18, 1927, in Terre Haute to Gerald R. Yeager and Sylvia J. Searing Yeager. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Peggy; one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Larry Ramsey of Rockville; one son and daughter-in-law, John A. and Sandy Yeager of Athens, Ala.; three grandchildren, Shaun Ramsey, John A. Yeager Jr., and Matthew Yeager; one sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Walter Meister of Louisville, Ky; special friends, Phil and Judy Williams of Terre Haute and Wayne and Darlene Stoops of Cory. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one infant son. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II, a member of Maple Avenue United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge 19 and Scottish Rite, and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a Boy Scout leader, a coach for the Great Scot Little League Team, enjoyed camping and was a ham operator using call letters, WA9MBW. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with Masonic services at 7 p.m. in Thomas Funeral Home, with the funeral service to follow immediately, with the Rev. Jerry Ross officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

John Henry Dunn Sr.

FARMERSBURG - John Henry Dunn Sr., 53, of Farmersburg died at 9:14 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born March 25, 1951, in Terre Haute to Lem Hale Dunn and Jenny Viola Cook Dunn. Survivors include his wife, Carlene Dunn; two sons, Travis Singleton and his wife, Dee, and John Dunn Jr. and his wife, Angie; three daughters, Teresa Mize and her husband, Charles, Ann Fagg and her husband, Joe, and Lacey Dunn; two brothers, Charlie Dunn and Donald Dunn; four sisters, Mary Tomal, Norma Perkins, Shirley Chavous and Alice Targett; 18 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Joe Dunn and Jack Dunn. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Rev. David Deal officiating. Burial is in New Harmony cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services.

Ovid A. Larr

FARMERSBURG - Ovid A. Larr, 83, of Farmersburg died at 3:10 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004. in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born April 12, 1921, in Greene County to George C. Larr and Thekla McDonald Larr. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Barbrah Rush Larr; one son, David Larr; one daughter, Dianna Willard; and four grandchildren. Services are 1 p.m. Thursday in Farmersburg United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Don Ransford officiating. Burial is in Westlawn cemetery, with graveside military rites by Shelburn, Hymera, Farmersburg and Sullivan American Legions. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, in the church, with Masonic services at 7 p.m., by Lewis Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons. Mattox Funeral Homes assisted with arrangements.

Roy Scott Jr.

UNIVERSAL - Roy Scott Jr., 84, of Universal, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, in his residence. He was a retired foreman for the highway department. He was born June 2, 1920, in Kansas, Ill., to Roy L. Scott Sr. and Mable Warmouth Scott. Survivors include one son, Paul Scott of Easton, Kan.; one daughter, Dianne Hensley of New Goshen; two sisters, Erma Frink of Clinton and Helen Hickman of Palm Desert, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Larry, in 1988; and one daughter, Carolyn, in 1999. He was wounded at Iwo Jima during World War II and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday in Valley Funeral Home, with Bill Herb officiating. Burial is in Pleasant View cemetery in Tecumseh. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today, in the funeral home.

Pearl E, Sonnefield

CENTER POINT - Pearl E, Sonnefield, 80, of Center Point died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, in Royal Oaks Healthcare Facility, where she had been a resident for three days. She worked at Clay County Hospital for several years. She was born Dec. 7, 1923, in Bowling Green to Emmens Thompson and Irene Royer Thompson. Following the death of her mother, she was raised by John and Anna Aldendorf. Her first husband, Tom Williams, died in 1968. Survivors include her husband, William Sonnefield, whom she married Jan. 20, 1973; her children, Terry Williams of Sacramento, Calif., Sandy Cooper of Pembrook, Ga., Frank Williams of Savannah, Ga., Ken Williams of St. Louis, Mo., Sue Simmons of Brazil; three stepchildren, Bill Sonnefield of Terre Haute, Kristy Jensen of Brazil and Jeff Sonnefield of Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren, Russell, Brenda, Candace, Christina, Holli, Kristen, Heather, Ryan, Jeremy and Jamie; three step grandchildren, Sherri Lee, Eric and Shalie; seven great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents. She graduated from Ashboro High School, then moved to Indianapolis, where she attended beauty school, before moving back to Clay County in 1966. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star in Bowling Green and was a devoted member of the Poland Zion United Church of Christ. She was known as a very proud lady, and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Memorial services are 3 p.m. Wednesday in Poland Zion United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Adin Rodgers officiating. Visitation is 2 p.m. until services, in the church. The family suggests, that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the American Heart Association, or to the Alzheimer's Association. Envelopes will be available in the church. French Funeral Home of Brazil assisted with arrangements.

William Stevenson

CLAY CITY - William Stevenson, 82, of Clay City, formerly of Putnamville and Rockville, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, in St. Vincent Clay Hospital in Brazil. He had been in failing health for the past three years. He worked as a correctional officer at Putnamville Correctional Facility, retiring after 27 years of service. He was born Oct. 8, 1922, in Shepherdsville to William and Laverna Payne Stevenson. His first wife, Ruth Pauline Brown Stevenson, died in December 1993. Survivors include his wife, Iris Griffith Stevenson, whom he married Jan. 1, 1995; his children, Bill Ray Stevenson and wife, Becky of Rockville, Donald Stevenson and wife, Frances of Reelsville, Roger Stevenson and wife, Vickie of Bloomington, Ill., and Virginia "Jenny" Giles and husband, Jack of Putnamville; stepchildren, Peter Goble and wife, Shelle of Isle of Palm, S.C., Patty Terrell of Bloomington, Ind., Lisa Trigg and husband, Tim of Greencastle, and Roger Meyer and wife, Julie of Portland, Ore.; 14 grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 17 stepgreat-grandchildren; four brothers, Charles Stevenson and wife, Vivian of Shelburn, Harvey Stevenson and wife, Thelma of Plainfield, Jim Stevenson and wife, Mary of Niles, Mich., and Warren Stevenson and wife, June of Lewis; two sisters, Anna Denny and husband, Norman of Pagosa Springs, Colo., and Wilma Bolinger and husband, Jerry of Coalmont; one sister-in-law, Donna Butts of Florida; one brother-in-law, Orvan Rehmel of Coalmont; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family members. He also was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Susie Rehmel; three brothers, Robert, Oliver and Arthur Stevenson; one grandson, James Allan Giles; and one stepdaughter, Jo Kay Romine. As a young child his family moved to the southern part of Clay County and he attended school in Coalmont. He served in the military during World War II. After the war he worked for the State Highway Department. He was a member of Friendly Grove Baptist Church in Lewis, and served the church in many capacities, including superintendent of the Sunday school. He also was a member of the American Legion Post and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Clay City. In the past he had been a member of Reelsville United Methodist Church. Services are 10 a.m. today in Friendly Grove Baptist Church in Lewis, with the Revs. Phil Badger and Harold Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m., in Putnamville cemetery, with graveside military rites by the American Legion and VFW of Clay City. Visitation is one hour before services, in the church. Schoppenhorst Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Opal B. Foshaar

Opal B. Foshaar, 98, of West Terre Haute died at 9:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, in her daughter's residence in West Terre Haute. She retired from the housekeeping department at Indiana State University, after many years of service. She was born Jan. 15. 1906, in Jasonville to Richard Elias Bedwell and Delia Mae Lantern Bedwell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Anthony "Dutch" Foshaar, whom she married May 24, 1924, in Terre Haute. Survivors include two daughters, Ardith "Cookie" Webster of West Terre Haute and Dorothy Euratte of Terre Haute; six grandchildren, Mike Webster and his wife Cheryl of New Goshen, Libby Edington and her husband Kenny of West Terre Haute, Nikki West and her husband Curtis of Terre Haute, Jennifer Zapata and her husband Jim, Tommy Foshaar and Teresa Foshaar, all of Peoria, Ill.; 13 great-grandchildren including, Allison Edington and Matthew West; 18 great-great-grandchildren; home care providers, Dawn Hipkiss and Kim Deverick; and the staff of McMillan Adult Day Care, who provided her with loving care for the past nine years. She also was preceded in death by a son, Robert Foshaar; a sister, Doris Shannon; three brothers, Russell Kibler, Ernest Bedwell and Andrew Bedwell; and two sons-in-law, James D. Webster and Jack Euratte. She was a very strong Democrat and had served as a precinct committeeman from 1954 to 1984. She was a member of the Moose Lodge Women's Auxiliary. Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Christ Wilbur officiating. Burial is in Westlawn cemetery in Farmersburg. Pallbearers are Mike Webster, Kenny Edington, Curtis West, Matt West, Arby Montgomery, Tom Slater and Bill Thomas. Visitation is 9 a.m. until services Tuesday. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the McMillan Adult Day Care, with envelopes available in the funeral home.

Mary A. Price

Mary A. Price, 79, of Terre Haute died at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, in Meadows Manor North. She was born Sept. 18, 1925, in Terre Haute to Guy Raymond and Rebecca Farzeir Raymond. Survivors include two sisters, Betty Lowe and Delores June Doolittle. Cremation has been scheduled with no services or visitation. Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Kenneth R. Williams

Kenneth R. Williams, 86, of Terre Haute died Saturday afternoon, Nov. 27, 2004, in Southwood Rehabilitation Facility. He retired from the Tribune-Star as a classified advertising manager in 1984. He was born Aug. 21, 1918, in Terre Haute to William Henry Williams and Leuvilla Clark Williams. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte M. Miller Williams; four sons, Kenneth H. Williams and wife Rebecca, Charles A. Williams and wife Donna, all of Terre Haute, Russell Williams and wife Patricia of Tampa, Fla., and J. Scott Williams and wife Armeen of Glen Carbon, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, Todd Williams, Chad Williams, David Williams and wife Janie, Kristine Bryan and husband Craig, Elizabeth Williams, Brooke Williams, Holly Williams, Claire Williams, Reese Williams and Paige Williams; and six great-grandchildren, Nicholas Williams, Harrison Williams, Rose Williams, Luke Bryan, Corinne Bryan and Grace Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William O. Williams and David Williams; and a sister, Ruth Harmon. He attended both Garfield and Gerstmeyer high schools, graduated in 1936, and attended college for two years. He was drafted into the Army in 1941 and was honorably discharged in 1946, as a 1st Lieutenant. He also worked in sales with the Dodge Division of Chrysler Corp., in Detroit, from 1947 to 1949, was employed by the U.S. Postal Service from 1949 to 1952, was a salesman for White River Paper Co., from 1952 to 1953, was a salesman for WTHI Radio, was promoted to WTHI Television sales manager from 1954 to 1955, and was employed as advertising salesman for the Tribune-Star Publishing Co. During the time of the Tribune-Star union strike, he was a salesman for WAAC Radio, returned to the Tribune-Star after the strike as advertising salesman and assistant local sales manager, was promoted to classified sales manager in 1970, where he remained until his retirement. From 1975 to 1976, he was president of the Indiana Classified Advertising Managers and was made a life member. In 1976, he was elected to the board of directors of the Mississippi Valley Classified Advertising Managers Association and was on the board until his retirement. He was a member of National Association of Classified Advertising Managers Association from 1970 to 1984. His current memberships include 60 years as a member of Euclid Lodge 573 Free & Accepted Masons, a 50-year member of Scottish Rite, a 32nd-degree Mason, a 45-year member of Zorah Shrine AAONMS; a 20-year member of Sycamore Country Club and the Final Edition Club. He was a past member of Boy Scouts, Order of DeMolay, American Legion Post 40, was a Little League coach, manager of Babe Ruth Baseball, was a past member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 86, Noon Optimist Club, and was on the board of directors of Family Services Association. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in Roselawn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Scott officiating. Entombment is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. until services Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Crippled Children's Foundation or to the charity of your choice.

Ruby Maxine Edwards

SPENCER - Ruby Maxine Edwards, 77, of Spencer, formerly of Linton died at 5:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was a homemaker. She was born March 30, 1927, in Greene County to Lester D. Wright and Eva D. Bedwell Wright. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Edwards. Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Wood and husband Max of Spencer; one sister, Doris Phipps of Hymera; four grandchildren, Jim Farmer, Megan Wood and Casandra Wood, all of Spencer, and Jeremy Farmer of Cloverdale; and five great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Berneta Mason and Margie Mobley; and her parents. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in Welch & Cornett Funeral Home Linton Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Poff officiating. Burial is in Fairview cemetery in Linton. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 11 a.m. until services Wednesday.

Jerry L. Hunt

CLINTON - Jerry L. Hunt, 66, of Clinton died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, in West Central Community Hospital's emergency room. He retired from Alcan Aluminum in 1996, after 34 years of service. He was born May 26, 1938, in Clinton to Raymond Hunt and Margie Yocum Hunt. Survivors include his wife, Katherine R. Pittman Hunt; one son, Jeffrey Hunt and his wife Meri of Villa Rica, Ga.; three daughters, Vicki Shaw of Terre Haute, Jeanette Hale and her husband Steve of Jasper, and Jeanine Scales and her husband Kris of Orange Park, Fla.; five grandchildren, Kathleen Scales, Spencer Shaw, Nicholas Hale, Ashley Hale and Hayley Hunt. He was an Air Force veteran and a member of First Baptist Church in Terre Haute. He was an avid golfer who had three holes-in-one. Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday in the church at 4701 Poplar St., with the Rev. Bernie Jackson officiating. Private burial will follow in Walnut Grove cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today in Frist Funeral Home and one hour before services Tuesday in the church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Leukemia Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and the church.

Harry Owens Jr.

CARBON - Harry Owens Jr., 61, of Carbon died at 8:55 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, in Parke County. He was born April 12, 1943, in Martinsville, Ind., to Harry Owens Sr. and Queenie Baker Owens. Survivors include his wife, Penny Owens; stepdaughters, Jenny Reeves and Angie Medley; brothers, Jim Owens and Bill Owens; and two grandchildren. There are no services. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Moore Funeral Home in Brazil. Cremation will follow visitation.

Donald Earl Tribby

JASONVILLE - Donald Earl Tribby, age 70, crossed over at 11:52 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born Feb. 24, 1934, in Greene County to Frank Tribby and Hazel Roberts Tribby. He married Patsy Chambers Tribby on Aug. 22, 1958, in Dugger. He is survived by his wife, Patsy; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Sue Tribby Burger and David Burger; a granddaughter, Jamie Lynn Burger; a grandson, Jeremy David Burger; a sister, Norma June Tribby; and faithful dog, "Sugar," all of Jasonville; a sister-in-law, Virginia Tribby; a nephew, Mike Tribby and wife Judy, of Columbus, Ga., and a nephew, Pat Tribby and his wife Mary of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Frank Tribby Jr. He was a member of Lawton Street Christian Church and was retired from Peabody Coal Company. He was a member of the Jasonville Volunteer Fire Department for 51 years, 35 years of which he served as chief. He was honored to receive the Governor's Meritorious Service Award from the office of the State Fire Marshal, Sagamore of the Wabash from the governor of Indiana, and Citation of Exemplary Service from the American Legion Department of Indiana. He served in the Navy aboard the USS McKean. He was a member and past master of the Jasonville Lodge 530 Free & Accepted Masons, was past president of the Greene County Fire Chief's Association and a 53-year member of the Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association. He also was a member of Zorah Shrine, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Greene County Shrine Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6225, and Columbian Chapter 140 Order of Eastern Star. He was, above all, a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in McClanahan-Lee Funeral Home in Jasonville, with Masonic memorial services at 6:30 p.m., and Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association memorial at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Lawton Street Christian Church, with viewing from 9 a.m. until services. Burial is in Lebanon cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jasonville Volunteer Fire Department or Lawton Street Christian Church in his memory.

Gene Land

Gene Land, 94, of Terre Haute died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, in Harborside Healthcare, after living on his own until the past two weeks. He was a self-employed truck driver. He was born Aug. 17, 1910, in Bicknell to Lawrence Land and Stella Cleveland Land. His wife, Lena Wade Land, died in June 1993. Survivors include one son, Gary Land; three grandchildren, Gregory Wayne Land and his wife Trish of Trinity, Fla., Kathy Strain and her husband Ken, and Doug Land and his wife Laura, all of Terre Haute; four great-grandchildren, Alexis Strain, Brianna Strain, Shelbi Land and Heather Land; and nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harold Land; two sisters, Irene Figg Enocks and Margaret Page. He served in the Army during World War II. Services are 1 p.m. Monday in DeBaun Idaho Street Chapel, with the Rev. David Deal officiating. Burial is in Grandview cemetery, with graveside military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Monday.
