Richard F. Duffy

Richard F. Duffy, 79, of Terre Haute died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, in Union Hospital. He worked as a bookkeeper, retiring from E.H. Bindley. He was born Feb. 8, 1925, in Terre Haute, to John H. Duffy and Anna Rurk Duffy. Survivors include one sister, Dorothy Pesavento of Niles, Mich.; one stepdaughter, Loree Brothers and grandson Austin Brothers of Indianapolis; and 11 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Joseph Duffy and James Patrick Duffy; and five sisters, Helen Marie Duffy Stephens, Elizabeth Jane Duffy, Mary K. Duffy Coakley, Margaret A. Duffy Parsons Servie and Martha Jean Duffy Davis. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972. He also was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Knights of Columbus and the Sycamore Club. Burial is in Calvary cemetery following cremation. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 6100 W. 96th St., Indianapolis, IN 46278. Mattox-Ryan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Louise Smith

Mary Louise Smith, 83, of West Terre Haute died at 2:37 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She retired from the Vigo County School Corp. in 1984 after 12 years of service, during which time she had worked in the Honey Creek Middle School Cafeteria. She was born Dec. 7, 1921, in Terre Haute to Leroy Wake and Flora Morris Wake. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, William S. Smith, whom she married Feb. 7, 1942, in St. Matthews Cathedral in Washington, D.C.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Anne and Jim Berg of Dallas, Ga., and Patricia L. and Peter Theil of Moyock, N.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, William L. and Geri Smith of West Terre Haute and Lawrence C. and Jean Smith of Crawfordsville; four sisters, Genevieve Mattox of Zionsville, Betty Boling of Venice, Fla., Erma Thomas of Terre Haute, and Judy Wyrick and her husband Robert of West Terre Haute; two brothers-in-law, Ray Smith of West Terre Haute, and Jerry Sims and his wife Pat of Lenora, N.C.; one sister-in-law, Rosemary Bauermeister of Yucca Valley, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Judy Serafin, Mary Jane Will, Cindy Burke, Greg Smith, Christopher Smith, Terri Joy, Benjamin Smith and Samantha Merryman; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was a member of St. Mary-of-the-Woods Village Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar Society and the Mission Circle. She also had been very active in the former St. Mary-of-the-Woods Village School. She enjoyed her family, cooking and keeping busy hauling her children and grandchildren and their friends to various sports events and other activities. She and her husband also were members of the Swinging Mates Square Dancing Club. Mass of Christian Burial is 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. Mary-of-the-Woods Village Catholic Church, with the Rev. Bernard Head officiating. Burial is in St. Mary's cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home, with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available in the funeral home.

Russell E. Baugh Sr.

Russell E. Baugh Sr., of West Terre Haute died at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, in his daughter's residence in Terre Haute. He was born Feb. 4, 1923, in Fayette County, Ill., to Virgil Baugh and Martha "Ellen" Fuller Baugh. Survivors include his companion, Norma Dickerson; five daughters, Lisa Douglas, Barb Chessir, Mary Baugh, Phyllis Baugh and Sandy Baugh; nine sons, Bob Baugh, Tim Baugh Sr., Benny J. Baugh; Russell Baugh Jr., Richard Wells, Danny Wells, Roger Baugh, Dennis Baugh, and Billy Baugh; one brother, Charles Elkins; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Clifford E. "Barney" Baugh; and one daughter, Marion Rose Wilson. Services are noon Monday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Monte Vincent officiating. Cremation has been scheduled. Visitation is 10 a.m. to services Monday in the funeral home. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley.

Georgeanna Callahan

Georgeanna Callahan, 81, of St. Mary-of-the-Woods Village died at 1 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born June 21, 1923, in St. Mary-of- the-Woods Village to Clarence Chrisman and Jenny Corzetto Chrisman. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Paul J. Callahan, whom she married June 20, 1942, in St. Mary-of-the-Woods Village Catholic Church; a daughter and son-in-law, Roseann and Jesse Richey of West Terre Haute; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Ginny Callahan of Greencastle; a sister, Rosemary Chrisman of St. Mary-of-the-Woods; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Dorothy Chrisman of Fishers; and four grandchildren, Heather Gilbert and her husband Chris, Amanda Callahan, Jamison Richey, and Allison Pope and her husband Joel; two great-grandchildren, Christopher Gilbert and Shelby Gilbert; and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. Mary-of-the-Woods Village Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church with the Rev. Bernard Head officiating. Burial is in Bethesda Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a rosary service at 7 led by Sister Peggy Lynch. Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Eva Edgerton

Eva Edgerton, 96, of West Terre Haute, and formerly of South Bend and Mishawaka died at 3 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, in Union Hospital. She was born June 21, 1908, in Marquette, Ill., to Frank Eagle and Priscilla Hill Eagle. She lived in Marquette from 1908-1930, then moved to South Bend, where she raised her family, moved to Mishawaka in 1961, and in 1996 moved to West Terre Haute. She worked as a cook's helper for Tony's Restaurant in Mishawaka for 25 years, retiring in 1990. On June 30, 1930, she married Albert W. Edgerton in Crown Point, and he preceded her in death Dec. 25, 1963. She is survived by four sons, Melvyn Edgerton and his wife Marion of Ocala, Fla., Paul Edgerton and his wife Nancy of West Terre Haute, William Edgerton and his wife Kim of Mishawaka, and Richard Edgerton of South Bend; a stepdaughter-in-law, Dorothy Edgerton of South Bend; 14 grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters; her stepson, Leslie Edgerton; and her stepdaughter, Ruth McDonald. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hahn Funeral Home in Mishawaka. Burial will follow in Riverview cemetery in South Bend. Visitation is 9 a.m. to services Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to McMillan Adult Day Care Center, 486 First Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47807.

Martha T. Stefanski McKee

Martha T. Stefanski McKee, 93, of Terre Haute died at 9:35 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, in Shakamak Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Jasonville. She was retired from Quaker Maid. She was born Oct. 20, 1911, in Jasonville to Paul Stefanski and Anna Ansorge Stefanski. Survivors include one son, Al McKee of Terre Haute; one daughter, Dorothy Morefield of Corsicana, Texas; two brothers, Thomas Stefanski of Terre Haute and Joseph Stefanski of Michigan; two sisters, Katherine Wallace of Jasonville and Margaret Stefanski of Terre Haute; three grandchildren, John Mike Saberton, Theresa Marshall and Matt McKee; and six great-grandchildren, Katie Saberton, Caroline Saberton, Caitlin Marshall, Cassidy Marshall, Matthew McKee and John Austin McKee. She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Eugene Schmitt officiating. Burial is in Grandview cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with a prayer service at 5.

Dorothy May Mitchell Samson

Dorothy May Mitchell Samson, 98 years old, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 22, 2004. She was born Dec. 12, 1906, to Flora Myrtle Hansell Mitchell and Homer Edward Mitchell. She was preceded from life by her parents, an infant brother, Homer E. Mitchell Jr., her only sister, Wauneta Mitchell Heskett and her husband, William "Bill" Samson. She was a nurse for many years and retired from St. Anthony's Hospital. Dorothy was a member of the Clinton Presbyterian Church and most recently attended Salem United Methodist Church in Hillsdale. Although she had no children of her own, "Aunt Dorothy" is survived by a host of nieces and nephews whose lives she deeply touched: Don (deceased) and Ruby Heskett, Larry & Patty (deceased) Crum; great-nieces and great-nephews, Ron Heskett, Bob Heskett, Teal Scioldo, Sara Sever, Michael Crum, Mila Stahl and Mark Crum; and many great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews and several great-great-great-nieces and great-great-great-nephews. Honoring Dorothy's request, following her cremation there will be no visitation or services. A graveside memorial service may be announced at a later date. In her memory, contributions may be made to the Salem United Methodist Church Building Fund, 3456 E. 1050 S. Hillsdale, IN 47854, or to the Clinton Presbyterian Church Food Pantry, 315 Mulberry Street, Clinton, IN 47842. Callahan Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Martha Jane Altick Stahl

Martha Jane Altick Stahl, 90, of Inverness, Fla., and formerly of Terre Haute died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, in Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness. She was a teacher and principal in Fairbanks Elementary School. She was born Oct. 26, 1914, in Dayton, Ohio, to Charles D. Altick and Grace Pumphrey Altick. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara S. Handley of Inverness and Kathleen E. Godfrey of Bushnell, Fla.; one son, Peter F. Stahl and his wife, Joan M. Stahl of Henderson, Ky.; and five grandchildren. Before moving to Inverness in 1983, she was a resident of Falls of Rough, Ky. She was a member of P.E.O., Delta Kappa Gamma, Westminster Presbyterian Church of Terre Haute and Hernando United Methodist Church in Hernando, Fla. Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory of Inverness is in charge of arrangements.

Virgil Emory Aker

BRAZIL - Virgil Emory Aker, 88, of Brazil died at 11:53 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, in Cloverleaf Health Care Facility in Knightsville. He was born Sept. 17, 1916, to John and Ida Mae Brattain Aker. He joined the United States Army in 1941, serving in WWII and earning several medals. On November 3, 1942, he married Betty Virginia Kettering. After his discharge from the Army, he spent some time farming around the Lena area, then began working for the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier, from which he retired in 1976. He was a member of Lena United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School for many years. He was a member of Carbon Masonic Lodge 529 and he enjoyed gardening, and woodworking. He is survived by two sons, Jerry Aker and wife Mary of St. Louis, and Terry Aker and wife Sherry of Rushville; three daughters, Judy and husband Larry Foulke of Greencastle, Kathy and husband Herschel White of Brazil and Cindy and husband Richard Brown of Brazil; 11 grandchildren, Tresa Botzum, Stephanie Owen, Shannan Lock, Tara Foulke, Stacie Padgett, Jaime Harden, Tim Aker, Jeremy Foulke, Molly Stark, Brian Brown and Brandy Brown; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, and two brothers, Earl Aker and Eli Aker; and two sisters Lucille Ames and Jean Earl. Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday in French Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bob Kumpf officiating. Burial will follow in Calcutta cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lena United Methodist Church.

Daniel Henry Kline

BRAZIL - Daniel Henry Kline, 56, of Brazil, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, from injuries he received in an automobile accident. He was born May 24, 1948, in Clay County to George Kline and Betty Lovett Kline. He was self- employed as a carpenter in Brazil for many years. On Oct. 16, 1993, he married Teresa L. Moran, who also died from injuries in the same automobile accident. He enjoyed car shows, fishing and camping with his wife, restoring old cars and going to yard sales and Croy's Creek Trading Post. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Tony Kline and wife Morna, Billy Kline and wife Melissa, and Daniel Kline Jr., all of Brazil; five stepchildren, Michael Miller, Sara Ferry and husband Chris, Tessa, Charles and Samuel Moran, all of Brazil; grandchildren, Krikette, Cory, Thomas, Natasha, Devon and Shelby Kline; Joey Dahlstrom, Samantha McGaughy, Coagen Stewart, Christa Ferry, Michael Jr. and Toby Miller, and Kaitlynn and Nathaniel Cooprider; two sisters, Janice Cramer and husband Paul, Carbon and Linda Cooper, all of Brazil; four sisters-in-law, Wanda Tiefel and husband Vic, Susan Treash, Barbara Houck and husband Jeff of Brazil, and Janis Allee of North Carolina; one brother-in-law, Edward Miller of Brazil; a large extended family and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margo Batchelor Kline; and a sister, Joyce Maitlen. Services are 1 p.m. Tuesday in Miller Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Clearview cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m. to services Tuesday.

Ronald L. Krasek

CLINTON - Ronald L. Krasek, 69, of Clinton died at 3:20 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, in his residence. He was born Feb. 1, 1935, in Clinton to George Krasek Jr. and Ann Barclay Krasek. Survivors include his wife, Rose Pawinski Krasek of Clinton, whom he married Sept. 26, 1989; four daughters, Ronda Ebert and her husband Kelly of Hobart, Renee Johnson and her husband Martin of Lake Station, Sandra Russell and her husband Raymond of Virginia Beach, Va., and Marilyn Ceniti and her husband William of Chicago; 10 grandchildren, Jessica, Cecily, Valerie, Ashlee, Lacy, Marni Jo, Ronnie, Christopher, Benjamin and Kelly; two brothers, Jerry and his wife Fran of Clinton, and John and his wife Judie of Hobart; and one sister, Margaret Ann Shannon of Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Beverly Alexander Krasek, on April 1, 1983. He was a member of Clinton Lodge 1501, Clinton Bocce Club, Antique Auto Club of Terre Haute and Studebaker Driver's Club. He was an avid bowler. Services are 1 p.m. Monday in Karanovich-Giovanini Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Scott officiating. Burial is in Walnut Grove cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VistaCare Hospice, 3900 S. Seventh St., Terre Haute, IN 47802.

Doris Louise Neal

JASONVILLE - Doris Louise "Dody" Neal, 73, of Jasonville died at 7:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, 2004, in Greene County General Hospital in Linton. She was born Oct. 27, 1931, in Clay County to Ruel Michael "Mike" Neal and Millie M. McDonald Neal. Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Alan "Bud" and Emma Jean Neal of Terre Haute; one niece, Ann C. Peterson and her husband Eric of Tucson, Ariz.; one nephew, Bradford Alan Neal and his wife Paula of Lancaster, Calif.; five great-nieces and one great-nephew; and her caregiver for more than 40 years, Karen Ann Conley of Jasonville. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Wednesday Research Club, Clay County Geneological Society, Indiana Historical Society, Indiana Governor's Planning Council for Persons with Disabilities and a charter member of Jasonville Spirit Builders. In 1971, she received the Governor's Award for Handicapped Hoosier of the Year. Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday in McClanahan-Lee Funeral Home, with the Rev. Eugene Schmitt officiating. Burial is in Lebanon cemetery in Midland. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to services Tuesday in the funeral home, with a vigil at 7 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Cerebral Palsy of the Wabash Valley.

Robert S. Patterson

FARMERSBURG - Robert S. Patterson, 75, of Farmersburg died at 4:27 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was the owner and operator of R&S; Meats in Farmersburg. He was born June 7, 1929, in Bellaire, Ohio, to Charles Patterson and Orrass Brown Patterson. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Goodwin Patterson; two daughters, Lori Ann Craighead and her husband Brian, and Robin Burke and her husband Ron Freeman; one brother, Raymond Patterson; grandchildren, Benjamin and Miranda Craighead and Evan and Audrey Burke. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Douglas Patterson. He was a member of the American Meat Packers Association. Services are 2 p.m. Monday in Mattox-Fidler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dick Jones officiating. Burial is in Westlawn cemetery, with graveside military rites by the Shelburn, Hymera and Sullivan American Legions. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
