RICHARD N. KENDALL, 84, died Saturday at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born in Miami County, he owned and operated Kendall & Son Service Station in Amboy, retiring in 1975 after 30 years. He was a World War II Army veteran. His wife, Palma June, died in 1988. Surviving are his wife, Mary Jane; a daughter, Lynel Lemon of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a son, Noel of Zionsville; three stepdaughters, Patricia Mooney of Venice, Fla., Judy Varajon of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Sally Lindgren of Linden, Mich.; two stepsons, Sam Dautermann of Alger, Mich., and Steve Dautermann of Rochester, Mich.; two sisters, Mildred Chambers of Indianapolis and Anna Jean Anderson of Decatur, Ill.; and two grandchildren. Private graveside services. No calling.

SAMUEL EDMUND SCHLEMMER, 84, of North Manchester, formerly of Wabash, died Tuesday at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester. Born in Wabash, he owned and operated Sam's Sport Shop in Wabash for more than 25 years and was a World War II Army veteran. He was treasurer of Wabash County for four years. He was an all-state football player at Manchester College and was inducted in to the Manchester College Hall of Fame. Surviving are his wife, Loann; three sons, William and James, both of Wabash and Dave of Auburn; and two grandchildren. Services at 10 a.m. Friday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Avenue Chapel, Wabash. Calling from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

HENRY J. HELBERG, 79, died Monday at home. Born in Andover, Vt., he was an advance quality control engineer at General Electric Co. from 1948 until 1984 and an adjunct professor at Indiana Tech from 1974 until 1996, where he served as dean of engineering from 1986 until 1988. He held various offices in the Fort Wayne Engineers Club and was a World War II Navy veteran. Surviving are his wife, Nancianne; three daughters, Sarah Trittipo of Fort Wayne, Betsy Kirk of Cambridge, Mass., and Jane Vorndran of Hoagland; a brother, Paul of Springfield, Mass.; two sisters, Muriel Sullivan of Chicopee, Mass., and Grace Didan of Manchester, Conn.; and six grandchildren.
